He was great with Eky and Zetts. Wouldn’t mind rolling that line out again next season

I’m all for the idea of keeping Grandlund around next season. With his contract the sharks would have to do some real trade gymnastics to get him to another team and I just don’t think any possible return would be worth the effort. Like you said a guy like him can be a huge mentor to the young kids coming in and if he can replicate this past season it would be nice to have his production around. Looking to the future you could possibly even renegotiate once his contract is up and get him on a much more realistic contract and THEN maybe you consider flipping him at the following deadline if the value is still there. Just my official armchair GM thoughts.

I would not mind if they would bring him back with a smart contract after the next season. Obviously we need to see his season first.
Granlund has been twice traded during trade deadline. With very underwhelming results. I would think that will slightly turn buyers away.

I don't see the Sharks trading Granlund before the season starts, unless its for a 2nd round pick. I think they should keep him on, and honestly, re-sign him to a contract if they can, to somewhat of a similar contract to what he has now, for maybe 3 or 4 seasons. He can really help these young centers coming in, and you never know how things are going to work out with Couture. Think of how Jumbo functioned in the tail end of his time with us, third line center making those other players look a whole lot better than they were. But I think the more likely scenario is that he somehow gets traded at the deadline, taking a roster player back as a dump, with a pick.
As always Professor, I am so proud of you and think that you can really become a serious hub for us Sharks fan that really care about the team and what goes on with it and the players. You're the best Sharks channel on TH-cam, hands down.

Big Granlund fan. He had surprisingly weak WHC this year. Usually he has been our MVPs. It was also the first time he had captaincy of the team.
Regardles of that he usually has been able to make his linemates even better in WHC. His skating is meh but he has offensive instincts and great passer. He may be overpayed right now, but that really is not Sharks biggest concerns in next year. Maybe he is not captain type. But as a linemate for future Sharks he can be mentor. I think he has more value for Sharks on ice than the possible return that would be scrums.

    Hey Professor,
I think you can guess my thoughts about the great season that Mikael Granlund had for us last year. Once the lay of the land was known (no Couture and Hertl at that time leading the charge) there is no cavalry coming so if you can elevate your game you have to do so. Granlund proved that he can still be a solid NHL centerman but, if he is on a better team, say one that is on the verge of making the play offs he might get lost in the shuffle there as a 3rd line centerman.
Every centerman needs finishers or else it gets really difficult witness Hertl before he was traded. I think Granlund not only proved that he can be a viable centerman still but, that he is actually quite good in the role of mentor to the Sharks young players. I would love for the Sharks to actually extend his contract if Granlund is open to that? Granlund may prefer to take one more swing at a championship and I would not blame him if he did. I think Granlund would be a nice fit to stabilize the younger players and mentor them and we are desperate this off season to add more guys like Granlund who can help bolster this team so that our young players don't get their souls crushed by another awful season.

Thanks for the video! Maybe you could add the player's age and contract info onto the board as well?

It's a decision for the Sharks, trade Granlund for a later round draft pick before the season, or keep him on the roster (helps with the cap floor too). Then if he does well again, maybe they can get more for him in season. BUT factoring into the decision will be if Celebrini plays another year at BU, then do the Sharks need Granlund at center or is the Fresh Prince ready to play NHL center?
I appreciate your intelligent analysis that doesn't throw out a lot of jargon stats, making it easier to understand for us fans who aren't stat geeks...

I don’t think the Sharks will move Granlund until at least the deadline unless the perfect deal comes along, and even then it will be somewhat difficult since they have no ability to retain on his contract. I think they like him as a strong leading example for the younger players, especially if Couture’s health is a problem again.

Can we get an analysis about Vlasic about what are the options regarding his awful contract? 5 or 6 years before when he was signed it was already a huge red flag signing a 32 year old small defensive defenseman for 8 years for that amount of pay, it was obvious that these conditions were out of this world and it turns out to be a mayor problem in the future, and here we are. 3 more years of suffering because of the delusional Doug Wilson contract offered to Vlasic.

Not with the contract he’s on. I’d say like a 3rd or 4th at best.
