I’m all on board with the Grier plan, we need to give him a few more years on the runway to really evaluate how he’s done.

I swear to God, Chicago better not win the draft lottery again or else I’ll lose it 😠

Totally... But! At worst we get a highly likely foundational winger or defenseman if it's #2 or #3 (we need both of those in our system)
As long as it's not Chicago's pick.

@@kryten09 strongly agree, there’s more aspects of the team the Sharks need to build around. We need a few more promising potential in these new rookies

Thank you Mike Grier for this long scrum interview with journalists hungry for rapid change and full of impatient questions. Everybody on Sharks teams has to do better he argues including himself in his GM moves. I am struck by how much reticence is required by the role of GM and how little he can ethically say about his discussions with other teams and players. It is like having to walk a tightrope and balance sincerity with being really coy and evasive due to privacy of others. Being general manager of an NHL team is probably the most difficult role to play in the organization due to the weight on your shoulders for the ultimate consequences (this season's gravity crushed David Quinn, veteran players, young players and Sharks fans). The real philosophical problem here is that the Sharks need desperately to change their luck and yet there is also no way for Sharks to influence the hockey gods, as chance means out of human control. So you have to take your luck as it comes and you cannot petition the hockey gods for justice, as in Sharks have never had a first overall draft pick so they deserve it this year, etc. The hockey gods don't care what you think you deserve or not, they roll the dice and let humans chase the consequences whatever they may be unpredictably. So GMs can calculate and reason all day and night long and yet still be sunk by injuries, scandals, puck bounces and deflections that constitute the beautifully uncertain game of ice hockey.

Getting a sure thing top 3 pick by having the least points is a huge unfair advantage if you keep it or trade down. Even losing intentionally to force it to happen would do more to help many teams over what they will do anyway.

His vision seems to be much more clearly defined and he's executing. DW always chased the previous year's winner a bit and stopped really going after size/speed, which was a major misstep.
The first two drafts under Grier's tenure were huge shifts in the right direction. And I've found his other opportunistic stuff really well (Graf, Thrun, etc.).

The real question sharks fans should be asking is; going forward, is owner Husso Plattner still okay with a long rebuild? This firing with one year still remaining on David Quinn’s contract (Grier’s hand picked hiring) wreaks of pressure from ownership to turn things around fast. Will Grier have the balls to be patient for multiple years as the rebuild is gonna take a while if the sharks are to do it properly.

28:00 journalist are asking about coaching staff and at one point ask about coach David Quins return next year… day or two after this interview they fire coach David Quinn. All Grier said was that they were still “evaluating” everything.

Have to cut Grier some slack, he walked into a bad situation that Doug Wilson left , it would be tough for any GM to walk into this situation.

This right here! Doug Wilson is overrated in the hockey world-the state in which he left the sharks all but proves it.

I trust grier. he got rid of the bad contracts in burns, EK, and Hertl. just vlasic left, but I think his is almost done? maybe he's almost done for good. forgot how much sharks retain on those tho.
I like the idea of staying

Only two more years left on his contract and the base salary is about 3 million lower than what it was this past season. I imagine he will finish out the last two years as a shark and retire. I just think with his cap hit, age and play most teams wouldn’t bother, although I thought he played much better at times this year than he had in years.

      Coutures contract is bad too.

    • @donovans.
      @donovans. 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

couture’s contract is bad now, because of his career threatening injury. To be honest, the best thing for the sharks long term is if couture can’t hit the ice again and they simply LTIR his contract for the remaining 3 years. If he comes back next season, I guarantee you he’ll be a shell of the player he was prior to this debilitating groin injury. His mobility, speed, and agility are toast! (Not that he was lightning fast to begin with).

@@donovans. If he retires or just goes on LTIR it will not be a big deal but he was saying how serious it was before. It will really help the rebuild if either come true.

@@sjxdemon4 we weren’t getting anything better for the trades involving Hertl, Meier, or karlsson. Grier took on potientally the toughest new hire GM we ve seen in the last two eras of hockey because of the contracts from Doug Wilson… Colorado & Tampa both took about 5 years to rebuild. Had Doug Wilson started our rebuild earlier Grier wouldn’t have to.
As sharks fans, we should want our team to get a Cup… not be an entertainment squad in the ice.
