Thanks to introducing me to The Hockey Guy on your channel. I have watched some Shark games and rebuilds are painful. Hoping my Islanders make the playoffs.
San Jose might not be doing too well, but they got a winning record against the St Louis Blues this season 🤣 Also defeated my Oilers once, the Canucks once, and the Kings once, so they have had an interesting season for sure
Hey Brodie I got to say I love this content getting different perspectives on the Sharks. I live in BC and it's tough to find Sharks discussion with analysts and whatnot North of your border. You having these thorough discussions with THG and Wysh is really great. Thank you!
I do think Grier will spend a bit this offseason. Back to back 10 goal blowouts at home is unacceptable, rebuild or not. The team needs to be at least somewhat watchable otherwise fan apathy will set in and then you end up like Arizona.
The team's performed a lot better since those back to back 10 goal games, that was November 2nd and 4th. Don't get me wrong, there have been terrible games but they've been somewhat in the majority of their games since then. The rest of November was 5 wins, a shootout loss, a 5-0 loss that was 2-0 until the 3rd period, a 4-1 loss that was 2-1 until the third period, a 3-1 loss that was 2-1 in the 3rd, a 7-1 loss that was never close, and a 3-0 loss that was 2-0 until the 3rd. I know the whole game is what matters but when things are close it's still exciting to watch so a lead opening up at the 3rd period keeps things interesting. December was similar, some wins (including some exciting comebacks) and close losses, a handful of bad losses. January, aside from a 7-1 blowout to the Leafs, everything was relatively close (biggest losses were a pair of 3-goal losses, one of which included an empty netter, one of which included a goal with 3:32 to go). February there were 2 bad losses (7-2 and 4-0), March had 2 bad losses by score (7-2, 8-2), though a couple of bad comebacks given up, still exciting games to watch. Today's game was the biggest loss through 4 games in April (3 goals including an empty netter).
I hate to be "that fan" but admittedly I kind of hit a point this season where I just kinda said: "Wake me up when something interesting happens." Being on Central time where I live it's kind of a stretch to stay up to watch a game that runs till midnight and get up for work the next day. It's one thing to stay up late and watch them win, or at least put up a good fight and come close. But to sacrifice sleep to stay up and watch painful loss after painful loss? No thanks. I stopped tuning in about halfway through the season and just started watching the highlight reels over coffee in the morning on TH-cam. It was a painful bandage to rip off, seeing the likes of Timo and Hertl get dished elsewhere. But if you're going to do a rebuild, tear the house down and build it. Holding out hope they can get something going here soon, then I'll be happy to stay up till midnight a few nights a week again. EDIT: Also totally awesome to see the collab with THG! Big fan!
Totally get that. Mental health (and physical health) come before fandom. I'm the same with my Premier League club, ARSENAL. I wake up at 4 am or 6 am to watch matches... but they're playing great so it's worth it. Hopefully, the Sharks will make staying up late a much more fun experience for you sooner rather than later!
@@johnmavroudis2054 Meh as a Raptors and Dolphins fan I'm used to losing and watching bad teams I mean Raptors had a great stretch and won a title but I was a fan from like 2002 so first like decade of being a fan was pretty awful. And Dolphins haven't won a playoff game in 23 years which is oddly enough the same number of years I have been a fan. Only team I root for that I can't stand them sucking is the Yankees just due to how much money they have to spend so have zero excuses in a sport with no salary cap. Not gonna say the sucking has been painless as for years I was so used to every early spring getting to watch Sharks and Raptors in the playoffs at the same time highlight being 2019 with Raptors winning the title and Shaks making the WCF and having the amazing 3-1 series comeback against Knights and the magical game 7. But have learned to just watch the team for player growth compared to wins and losses. Been fun to watch Zetterlund and Eklund develop and recently Cooley.
@@wisewolftony As a SF Giants, Warriors, Sharks, and Earthquakes'. fan for decades, I've seen my share of losing, as well. I'm also excited to watch the young prospects and the (hopefully) successful build up of the franchise again. Cheers!
It was the smart decision, Hertl’s best seasons would have been through a rebuild and by the time the sharks are a playoff team he would be 34+ and on the downside, I hated it but it was the right choice. Grier has to work in an environment we’re you don’t care about fans opinions and you can’t fall in love with players cause that’s where you end up giving guys like Couture, Burns and Karlsson those longer and bigger deals than they should have.
@@robertevans00 but falling in love with the players is what keeps fans coming back when the team sucks. I’m from the Bay Area, but currently live in WA. We kept our season tix when we moved. So for me to go to a game, I have to invest in airfare & a hotel room. Not mention the normal stuff like an Uber & concessions, & merchandise. Plus, I have to pay extra just to be able to watch the Sharks games. That’s a lot of money for a team that sucks and players you feel you have no connection or affinity for. Having players on the team that were part of the good times & remind you of what you’re striving for, is one of the ties that keep me interested. Vlasic has long been my favorite player, and I watch a lot of the games now, just to see him in the last stages of his career. Last year Hertl was the only player they said WASN’T on the trade block. This is because they wanted to make him the “franchise” player of the team. Not to mention, he was its heart. That was evident this season with Couture being out. It was shown constantly. Not to mention, he was a huge fan favorite. Yes, there may be countless reasons why the trade makes sense, but that doesn’t change the fact that it will forever be heartbreaking.
Went to Saturday's game! The effort was there in the first two periods, then as usual went into penalty kill mold for 20 minutes and instead of full out attack the team was on it's heals for the final 20 minutes! Everything was looking like a redo of the Blackhawks game! But Devin Coolie looked like a different goalie! William Eklund was on fire! This was the most exciting game of the year! Sunday had 50% less fans in the arena. The vibe was totally 2023/24! The team was slower, lethargic, and looked like a team that played 2 games in less than 24 hours. In the third period, after Arizona got goal #3, the house of sharks cards came tumbling down. We both were looking at the scores, and noted Chicago lost 4-0, So we looked at each other and started figuring that just 4 more points would clinch the worst record. Two more loses by both Chicago and SJ and then it's back to rooting for wins!
Next year has to be about building our defensive foundation. We have lots of promising forwards "cooking". Defense, and team culture/vets to ease the young guys in (even if these vets won't be part of the new core a few seasons down the line) Celebrini or not... Our future is bright. (But even brighter, faster with him) Our "underdog" years are gonna be late 90's /early 00's fun all over again.
Feel like the reason they didn't trade Granlund is due to him being the perfect type of veteran for the young players. As he's a great passer which I think is a big reason for Zetterlund having such a good season and Eklund has been scoring more since being put on the first line with them.
They’re not moving to Utah and Grier is trying to restock their cupboard and some excellent future pieces are already there. But it’ll be at least two more seasons (even *if* they land Celebrini, wouldn’t bet rent $ on it) before they can climb out the NHL basement (above 28th Place, say)
As a pedantic jerk it depends...if they win Celebrini this year and Hagens next year they won't be in the mix for McKenna in 2026 because you can't win the lottery more than twice in 5 years.
Sharks have become like the A’s just when a player get good they trade him so the team never gets a rhythm and without veteran players you have a hard time competing. Thats why Vegas is always so good, they are stacked with vets. Id say 3 years till we get to the playoffs. And ticket prices will never go down to get the crowds back🙄. Only player who won’t get traded is Sharkie that’s why’s I have his name on my Sharks jerseys 😁
This is only year 2 out of 3 of the NHL gifting the 1st pick to Chicago. If you don't believe me, you haven't been paying attention to this league. Betteman has been rigging drafts since he worked for the NBA.
