- swear this is the last Silent Hill video I'll make for a while, don't want to just be the guy that complains about a dead franchise
Like always thank you for watching, I was going to do something for 100 subscribers but now that I'm getting closer to 1,000 I figured I'd hold off until then. Next video will be something different, but for now here's a video about what might be the most forgotten Silent Hill game, besides Book of Memories.

silent hill: the arcade might be the worst silent hill game but it's one of my favorite arcade games and it's what got me into silent hill in the first place lol
Yeah, the arcade was the first Silent Hill game I've ever played as a kid, and boss battle with Pyramid Head is what sparked my fascination with the character. They may have used his movie incarnation, but Pyramid Head was still scary as fuck.
Nah, the worst Silent Hill game is the Pachislot one.

You know, i have always regard this and silent hill 4 as a “distant sequel” of silent hill 2 just because the game’s story (the whole thing with the Little Baroness ship) is referenced in a magazine in Silent Hill 2 (like how Walter Sullivan is also referenced in Silent Hill 2 too). Well, this game shouldn’t be taken seriously as a true Silent hill game, but i say seeing the original silent hill locations in a on rail shooter is kinda cool.
Everything after 4 is like a nightmare we wish never existed.
I personally think Origins and Shattered Memories are pretty good, I just wish Origins actually respected the story of the first game and keep Alessa out of it, Travis story should be good enough for the game, Shattered Memories takes place in an alternate universe so there's nothing to complain

And I think if you take silent hill title away shattered memories could have been a stand alone horror game.
I went from piramid head vid to this one and see a huge improvement in sound quality with no dip in writing, editing and humor. Chef's kiss! Amazing content!
The "press start button" and flashing "HOLD YOUR FIRE" over a child therapy session at 15:23 is quite something. XD
The only thing I'm glad about this game is that the Worm is actually an enemy and not just something in the background for the sake of disturbance. It's probably the only time this enemy will ever get to shine.

completely agree, i didnt like this game as a silent hill game but it was still very enjoyable (even if its in a so bad its good kinda way), significantly better than what we have now
This was the first silent hill game I’ve ever played, without me even knowing what silent hill was lol. Me and my friend were in an arcade/amusement park. We played this game, got to the pyramid-head part and I screamed “oh shit it’s the Devil”, after which we got destroyed lol. After that I saw the Silent Hill movie, then I played SH0 on psp, then homecoming… I know, the order is a complete mess. But without those games, I would have never discovered the original 4 games. I love the series and it’s all thanks to this game, so it has a soft spot in my heart

I remember ten years ago on a UK trip I found this thing tucked in the back of some restaurant arcade.
I remember being so awestruck at how garbage it was that I went out and bought a UK copy of Homecoming to commemorate the occasion as I felt that game was less blatantly disrespectful.

This is the first video I've seen on Arcade (granted I never went looking lmao), and I appreciate that you give it a fair shake.
Never had a chance to play it, but if I'm going brain-off mode at the arcade, it'd be hard not to at least give it a go. I think the source material, however poorly used, does make it that much more enticing just to say "yeah, I beat Silent Hill Arcade"

You're going after a light gun arcade game? This really shouldn't even be considered the worst SH game when we have lame broken entrees in the canonical series like DownBore. I mean, Silent Hill Arcade is even better than book of memories

On the topic of reused assets. Despite Silent Hill and monsters within it are specifically "tailored made" for each individual, everyone's seems to forgot that whatever happened in Silent Hill, literally stays in Silent Hill. Every theme, every monsters, once they were born out of someone's psyche, will be permanently imprinted onto the town and will come back in some shape or form. Just like how Alessa's flesh and blood nightmare has now become the basic template for otherworld regardless of whom Silent Hill reacted to.
Yes it's a shoddy excuse for the developers to reuse stuffs but at least it holds weight from the lore perspective and it's observable in every games.

I’ve seen playthroughs of all SH games on TH-cam. And I think origins, homecoming, shattered memories and downpour have some parts of the core of silent hill. They aren’t 100% complete but still.

A light gun arcade game just doesn’t fit silent hill, like at all. Maybe you could do a resident evil game like this but silent hills never been about mowing down enemy’s with your infinite amo weapon. The closest thing I could think of doing for a silent hill arcade machine would maybe doing a vr demo cabinet but even that kinda messes with the experience of the best silent hill games. Turning off all the lights and playing the game by yourself late at night.
Silent Hills demise really started with SH4. SH1 - SH3 were masterpieces. Since then... Silent Hill has been diluted with constant reuses of assets that shouldnt be included at all *AHEM PYRAMID HEAD* as well as a real lack of anything disturbing, intriguing and deeply unsettling. Homecoming was a mess. Downpour, never played it, never wanted to (poor concept). Silent Hill Wii, not so much (though the psychological study aspect was genuinely a neat mechanic). Silent Hill Origins was as close to a GOOD Silent Hill as well ever get (though the redressing of Pyramid Head as The Butcher was beyond apparent and really lame). PT, AMAZING concept, too bad Konami was being Konami and just dumped it (still probably kicking themselves to this day due to the Kojima split). The upcoming Silent Hill 2023, from what Ive seen of it, already looks like a huge disappointment. And it feels like Silent Hill 4 was really to blame for the snowball that became its avalanche sized downfall into mediocrity.
Point being to all of this... The entirety of series has no cohesiveness other than the town its based on (and even still, thats reaching in certain aspects). The creatures have become cliche and boring. The protagonists are all very empty and dull. The first TRUE sign of life that looked like it was going to REALLY resurrect and bring Silent Hill to its former glory was dumped by Konami and forced into obscurity to even play in modern times. Silent Hill is a franchise that has lost its way with very little to offer to gamers of all ages, especially those of us who started with the first back in the late 90s. It really feels like anymore Silent Hill needs to be laid to rest and left in the past as every time its put back into play, its literally a rotting corpse constantly being forced to dance again just got the sake of money.
Silent Hill 4 was a great game. You didn't like it because it just wasn't the exact rehashing of the same story over and over? The game was great and offered new challenges and mechanics. The downfall for the Silent Hill series began when Western developers took it over, not at Silent Hill 4
@@Antnj81 you are welcome to your opinion just as i am mine. IMO Silent Hill 4 wasnt that good and was the beginning of the decline with the games. the last saving grace was PT, and we all know what happened with that.
It's an arcade, I don't get why people even consider this game when talking about the saga, it has nothing to do with the others. It's like we were rating Avenger's figures from different figure manufacturers and someone included the McDonald's toys in the rating, like yeah technically they're figures but it isn't comparable to the other stuff by any means and we should know it, same with this game, just an arcade with Silent Hill cover paint.
Well, its called a arcade game for a reason.These dont tend to make much sense because they have to hit you with a wtf moment so that you can enjoy 5-10-30min of fun ,or the whole game .I personally thought it was above average.Mainly because it is the FIRST horror arcade light gun made with a kind of serious thematic.The second game with similar content on a arcade machine is called Dark Escape 4D, again from konami.
(and no, games like house of the dead, beast busters and similar dont enter the category of Silent Hill the arcade and Dark Escape 4d in my opinion).So that makes it a rare game trying to take its own route and place. Did it work out? Yes, and no.Mostly no XD.
Still I respect the game.

Yeah but its pretty much in the same vain as them using music from Silent Hill 2 and 3 for the film, yes the music used is amazing but it doesn't fit in that story.
I genuinely can't understand how you can consider this worse than Book of Memories, sure Silent Hill's standout parts are the quiet dread and slower moments such as dialogue and cutscenes, but it is far from apposed to action, the boss fights being the primary examples of this as climaxes to half the slower sections of each game. I'd say this and Shattered Memories (which I have a soft spot for) are the best things that came out of the franchise post 4. For the Metal Gear example, MGR still has the feel of the main MGS series but is super far from any of the core entries gameplay wise, another series that emphasized not fighting except for the boss encounters, yet an action slasher title doesn't feel out of place at all. This is my view of SH Arcade, a huge diversion gameplay wise, but it still gives that same familiar sensation of the property, a sort of cozy blanket a lot of old, beloved franchises give, especially in the entries that actually respect the original material, which anything but the Arcade and Shattered Memories do not do. Origins, Downpour, etc. are all closer gameplay wise to the original quadrilogy, but have none of the spirit and just spit on the legacy of the franchise, making fun of it, retconning nonsense into the series that breaks the canon of not only the Team Silent titles, but themselves as well to self-aggrandize, or just not really understanding the games at all. this feels like a goofy fun tribute, rather than a cashgrab like everything else after The Room.
I actually played the Silent Hill Arcade Machine like back in 2008/2009 and I liked the black curtains the machine had and I remember liking the game a fair amount back then. But yeah I can imagine from being an actual Silent Hill game (now I'm more familiar with the SH franchise) yeah I can see it being not so great. Same deal with the Resident Evil Chronicle Games for the Wii

to be honest it has been a while since i’ve played book of memories, and a lot of what i said in this video applies there (if not to a larger degree). the thing that makes me dislike this more though is it’s placement chronologically in the series, it feels as if it’s the first major detour from the series instead of it’s last detour
and yeah i didn’t really want to be completely negative because i did enjoy the gameplay, it was still a fun game to me, so i didn’t want to just omit that to bash the game more
Silent hill is too good even for Konami it feels like something capcom should have made
If Capcom made Silent Hill, we'd be getting new entries and remakes now instead of complete nothingness.
I admit I adore The Arcade in the same way I adore House of the Dead. Like, sure, it's a dumb premise for a Silent Hill game. But I can't say I dislike the idea of a SH Rail Shooter, much like how Resident Evil had the Umbrella Chronicles. Plus, for me, I treat the Arcade like nostaligc fanservice. Like, the PH fights are both actually quite tense and the penultimate fight with him where he just teleports around while getting closer and closer is actually REALLY good, for me anyway. The other bosses are neat too from the perspective of either being monsters that were never really used properly (The Worm) or original and disturbing designs.
I would just tell anyone to treat The Arcade like one would treat the movies. A mindless indulgence in fanservice that winks and fingerguns at you when it makes shameless references to things we really enjoyed.

I kind of appreciate that they actually put effort into it, other than some copy pastes. I do agree that it's the worst *Silent Hill* game, but not the worst Silent Hill *game*. It's kind of a baffling choice.

For me, anything after SH3 is non canon fodder, so I don't have any strong emotions against this kind of spinoffs so late in the game with a franchise that has spent more years exploited with subpar imitations than years in its golden era, sadly.

I always thought RESIDENT EVIL rode off the Back of Silent Hill because for myself I absolutely hate Res evil.. 😒 It felt like the "No name" version of your favourite snack but it's Just not the the Original..
Shouldn’t this be the other way around? silent hill came out three years after RE, and RE was already a favorite to most by this time as RE2 released in 1998 and RE3 released afew months after the first silent hill

Later on........one of the things that I REALLY hated.....was that they TRIED to make it seem like Silent Hill was a town that you could drive through........it never was. It was a SECLUDED town on a hill "Silent Hill" with issues and hidden secrets that you had to find! Like most die hard fans.......loved Team Silent and Silent Hill 1-3 for sure! The room was okay.....but didn't finish it. Pyramid Head DID become the mascot.....but like ANY mascot......he became corporate and overused for no reason.

The reason you didnt liked this game that much is because you are over analyzing, the game CLEARLY is not trying to be canon (and its more based on the movie and homecoming than the main line)
The boat and the disaster are actually mentioned on SH2 (on a paper james can read)
PH has no reason to be anywhere outside sh2 because it's james persona, but that is not PH (nor is the entity in the movies, nor is the entity on home coming), This are boogie man. (basically the same thing, but another entity... a "hole" in the system)
The same applies to the worms. wich are the worm that connects the worlds (greed) and the GIant Split Worm wich is the 1st boss on SH3.
the game itself is made with a bunch of the most remembered things from the saga, wich is not a bad thing, its a VERY short arcade rail game... it needs to be like it
Comparing it to the console survival games is pointless and goes right straight to deception (imposed, as once again, the game DOES NOT try to be one of those games and its not even trying to be story correct)
i m one of the few that know kojima is a hack and pt would be awful. the only way to ressurect this dead franchise is with a full japanese team that actually respects and understands the original 3, that will never happen tho. rip
