The advice about reducing anxiety by focusing on expressing your true self rather than on whether the other person is going to like you - this is one of the biggest things that has reduced my social anxiety in the last year as I’ve been trying to meet more people. GREAT advice. Love these, Anthony.

Okay, first off I am an introvert and none of what he describes applies to me at all. I enjoy good company enormously, am not shy, growing up ALL my teachers said I made friends easily, I have never sat awkwardly staring at the wall while some poor soul sits across from me trying to engage. That's not introversion, it's possibly several things depending how extreme (like autism) or extreme social anxiety.

I mean, apart of it is introversion, doesn't mean it's always applicable though
My best advice: breathe deep and try to genuinely enjoy yourself. We put so much pressure on ourselves and our expectations and hopes with others that it feels like torture. Find something you both genuinely enjoy and do that. Something like walking by the beach so the pressure of sitting formally across from someone isn;t there and you can walk about and begin to let your sense of humour emerge. That;s the thing most people say they are looking for. Humour.

So Anthony with the way that you describe charm versus charisma do you think somebody can be both charismatic and charming?
Yes and it often is coupled. But they are not mutually exclusive and people often get them confused.
How do you get past the feeling that you’re just rambling on about yourself? I think the coffeeshop example is great, but when I think of myself doing something similar, it feels like it comes off as me talking at the other person.

So we have to keep denying our introversion? I do exactly what you’re saying as an introvert (pool my energy into helping others to feel comfortable) but I get so exhausted and long-term, it breaks me down, being around others all the time. I have to retreat to recharge. Any advice on balance then?
