D100 is unironically a really good item. The HP ups you get don't go away after rerolling AND all items count towards transformations so after a couple uses you'll have max HP and fantastic damage.
Might be one of the most entertaining speedruns I've seen so far. Interesting and infomative commentary, good gameplay and especially that last Azazel run was amazing. Can't wait to see another Isaac run at GDQ
One of the best run i ever saw. Not only a great Isaac speedrun, but a great speedrun in general. Entertaining run, amazing commentary and a skilled runner. Keep it up AGDQ!
I like how the commentary says “ we have basically perfected this game”, but then goes on to say that they have way more to learn and things surprised them in this run.
It actually does make scense. Perfecting means to get 1000000% at least id say so, but The game has almost unlimited combinations of Items. You will never know every effect of every combination of tears, because there are just too many.
To be fair to them, the game has about 500 or so items, and they each interact with each other differently. But also, even I as a longtime casual player know that azazels mini-brimstone synergizes with almost nothing that normal brimstone does, including epic fetus.
Honestly when I saw the D100 instinct just took over shook my head and left from being conditioned to know thats not something I want. Like a second later before the crowd had even registered I already had processed "Oh wait this is GDQ I have to talk this"
THIS is why I love rouge-likes The sheer dopamine release following getting a good build makes all the frustration of failed attempts (me, who hasnt beaten an issac game) worth it

"The runner has to be good with good builds and bad builds to perfect the speedrun" *just gives all the bad characters better starting items to make it all easier* *then gets nothing but knives*
They do that in order to the speedrunner doesn’t waste a lot of time (and crowds time) into reroling the start of the game to spawn near a curse room or treasure room in order to start the game with something BUT then if you open the room and you also don’t find any useful items that can make you go fast (and there are many and in the case of curse rooms they don’t even have always items) they would then reroll again so even if you finally reroll near a treasure room or curse room that don’t guarantee the start of the room, (this because the run is only starting and rerolling won’t loose them progress or time) This inmensily reduces the rerolls needed at the start of the game
@@AnaCristina-dv6qu also, i wouldnt call it a speedrun, having mapping and additional items at the start doesnt happen in vanilla, this is just a challenge run

Dude constant D100's and boss rush in the final leg of a marathon!? Thank you so much that was a blast to watch, amazing run. edit: HE FUCKING WENT TO HUSH!
Fr like saying 13 dmg with the pact at first devil deal and said he didn’t have good items and calling wiz cap good. I was so lost half the time. I wonder if the runner was just sitting there with thoughts like that the whole time lol
Can we talk about the music for this game for a second btw? Ever since I started playing it years ago, I've been in love with the music for this game. It really enhances your gameplay experience.
here's a casual tip, if you move forward and fire after firing another tear, both tears can hit at the same time. Really useful when attacking some enemies. Here's another useful tip I never see speed runners use and I don't know why: If your facing Gurdy(the stationary boss who spawns flies and 2 blood growers in front) and you have the option to stand behind her, if you can deal enough damage you can just reset her cycle over and over without her actually attacking you. All she can do is spawn flies. She can't fire at you since she only fires in 3 directions(east, west and south). Her blood growers will reset after so much damage on the boss so they will never actually spew blood.
it was entertaining but i didnt like how the mod changes so much. sure, removing animations is fine...but really? starting with an op item with every character as well as the D6?
We'll just pretend the void doesn't exist aaand everything is perfect. I do enjoy the void as a challenge, but some of the added bosses are just not okay unless you're op.
8000+ hours and they still haven't figured out that Azazel's mini-brimstone is NOT the same as actual brimstone for synergies, I have like 200 and I knew that
He’s obviously good at the game but I don’t really get the mod, it’s so different from the base game is this really an afterbirth+ speed run? Death is just an x time loss, get a good item at the start. Seems weird
The differences between the "casual" game (casual meaning you play the game the way it's intended to be played - still requires a monumental amount of tryhard when compared to other games) are just incredible. The item tier list in particular is sooooo different, because things like orbitals and speed ups are incredibly valuable in a speedrun for their ability to kill stuff fast, when the high risk / high reward value of the orbitals is often not that worth it in casual runs, and speed ups are just eh okay. And there's stuff like the D100 or the satanic bible that basically mean an auto win in a casual run, but are basically worthless in a speedrun because they need time to exploit. I just love how the item tier list is basically not the same at all between characters, game modes... Some items cannot be less than excellent (tech X, mom's knife, epic fetus, brimstone, sacred heart, godhead), but some vary wildly depending on a lot of factors. This run really shows that off and I love it. Speedrunning also doesn't really do justice to the incredible variety of mechanics in the game (sacrifice rooms, angel rooms, curses, shops...), and I love seeing a game that has been thought to reward thoughtful optimization and risk management played in the opposite way. Bulldozing through and taking risks whenever you can to make it FASTER. Beautiful.
Wildcard777 it’s part of the mod for speedrunning. In TBOI there’s different seasons with different rule sets that try to keep improving the quality and consistency of runs. Basically Isaac speedrunners “agreed” to play under the same ruleset for a period of time. Other seasons didn’t include a premium starter item nor the schoolbag for example
this is a speedrunning mode which requires you to beat the game with all characters consecutively but to make that easier you're given somewhat of a ''carry item'' at the beginning of each run
And, the reason they decided to make the runs like this is because of how much rng is involved in any given run. If this were about playing the game as fast as humanly possible, the easiest, best times would be done by Azazel only, just because of how much DPS he does by default. It’s all about consistency, and making the whole thing somewhat tolerable. To keep people from just “Holding R” till they get something like the D6 (to make the rng somewhat-tolerable for an audience).

Been watching for about 15 minutes and the guys on the couch are really smashing it out with great informative commentary
Claudio L. I can’t even imagine how confusing it would be for someone that never played Isaac ahahaha
They were crushing the info commentary the entire run. Really appreciate these two.
5000+ hours of Isaac tends to have that effect on people XD
I love how the commentary is beginner-friendly even though mainly seasoned players will be watching
What? GDQ is a pretty wide audience
I know it’s very cool
Not really, lots of people who dont even play the game will watch, if the run is good enough they will keep watching
Crowd: REROOOOOOLL!
Marcus: Hold my chocolate milk
Just when you think it cant get any better, BAM D100!
It can also screw you up
39:08 "pretty mediocre average run"
*has 13 damage*
That really is pretty mediocre, in the sense that you won't be annihilating bosses in under a second
If you ain't sweeping it ain't isaac
for someone who knows how to properly play tboi, it is.
ON CAVES
The commentators say they have 7k hrs into the game and doesnt realize the run just started with demigod pickups :/
This run must have been so confusing for people that haven't played isaac
Can confirm.
I am very confused, and have no idea why everyone is loosing their minds over this speedrun.
ive played isaac and am confused. only beaten the mother once though. lots of levels and mobs ive never seen before.
it was :)
still enjoyable

kinda was but i could still keep up mostly

It makes me very happy to see this game represented in GDQ. Amazing job to the runner.
