Have listened to this track probably >50 times and haven't picked up on 90% of these details. The amount of attention to the mastering is incredible. Thanks for documenting the process!
Wongs cafe was the first thing that got me into vulf and I slowly spread out to other artists, y'all opened a new world of music. But the one song that completely sold me was "Disco de lune". HOT DAMN that song is absolutely perfect
you know what I gotta go to work in about an hour and life's been getting me pretty down lately.... but I wanna thank you Cory because you make me want to grab my bass and throw down some tracks ...thanx Cory
Regurgitating? COME ON! I've always LOVED that you (and vulf) re-used parts and ideas, giving them new life in different songs and all. That 91 maxima solo, Airplane mode, Grandma/Bicentennial, Companion Pass/Takeoff, etc. They kinda feel like easter eggs at times, and it's always fun to re-discover them.
It's So funny that Cory has this developed this wildly popular signature guitar tone (featured in plug-ins that guitarists pay good money to emulate) and it's so dry that he can't even tell whether he recorded through an amp or straight in without one lol. Love it.
The insight is amazing, but the editing has me cry laughing at my desk. The digital zoom in on the microphone after slapping it down on the desk...brilliant visual storytelling.
I love the imperfection that you can really only hear when listening to the solo'd tracks. The time is a bit rough here and there. There are some flubs. But then when you hear the whole mix, it's just fat and human and fun.
What I love about your music is that I can pretty easily sit back and mindlessly enjoy a sick groove. But I can also sit down and listen intentionally, and it brings the whole experience to another level, and I really appreciate that. 🤘
Thanks so much for making these On The One videos... so helpful. I'd love to see one about You Got to be You, probably my favorite song off Wong's Cafe.
Incredible the amount of brilliant texture you added while keeping to the OG! And this video had me laughing as much as loving the musical content. Sooooooo FUN!🎉
I love these videos! It would be tight to see the next one from your recorded live shows. I get pumped every time and I love the process. It's great content, thanks Cory!
Always a treat to see the process Cory , I love these ! Could you do one with a Fearless flyers tune ? It looks so minimalist from the outside but I'm sure it isn't
Cory te amo con todo mi corazon wachoooooooooooooo!!!!!!! Muchaaaaachoooooooosssss ahora nos volvimo' a ilusionaaaarrrrrr, quiero escuchar al Cory!!!!!!!
15:43 I'd wondered if this section was an homage to DMB. You guys played Tripping Billies in SLC last November, so I figured it was intentional. It's a fun homage!
7:25 Hahahahah maybe you were on the Princeton and Jack was going DI? 16:30 Some people call it "The Alex Lifeson's chord" Loving this On the one videos! Learning SOOO much 🤓 Thanks for sharing!
Excellent breakdown + editing as per, thanks for pointing out that subtle difference between Airplane Mode and Let's Go; I thought I'd gone mad thinking it sounded 'wrong' when playing the Cmaj instead of the C#min! Also do I hear the Smash Bros. audience gasping sound effect at 7:12 ??
I actually don't care what track you dissect, any episode of On the One I will watch multiple times over. I love love love this series. Please keep it coming! If I had to pick a track, I suppose I'd ask for your favourite track on the Dr Octave album. I'd love to see how the process is different for you, if at all, from your vulf/ wongnotes process.
Love these, I would be very grateful if you could break down some more off of Power Station, particularly Road Trip, Over the Mountain, and J.A.M. (Just a Minute). It's not exactly On the One territory but the two tracks you did with Béla deserve some sort of breakdown, talking a little about the process and maybe just talking excitedly about the composed parts vs the improvisation. Then just to throw a few more in there I'd love episodes on Disco De Lune and You Got to Be You. Thanks for all the videos, albums, & podcasts. They've been really inspiring me to put in some practice and learn a new instrument after a musical hiatus. Much love from the UK!
So cool watching this! I learned quite a bit. Let’s goooo!!! You guys nailed it. I love the snow outside. You work on the stereo chops, and I’ll work on the pork chops 😂! 🍃♥️👍🏼👍🏼
I’d love to see some fearless flyers breakdowns and how that process is similar or different to working with vulf and the Wongnotes! Also what was it like writing with the delta force!!
That was awesome THANK YOU. perfect TH-cam. Great learning and soooooo freaking fun haha. More please! Artist’s choice for the song. If you love it we’ll love it
Since you're asking I'd love to see a breakdown of Lilypad - my favorite song to run to because of the tempo. Looking forward to seeing you and the band this September in Copenhagen!
Awesome video, so 🎉fun 🎉 and instructive at the same time. And I love this song, especially the live version you did with your band (but this original is dope too !). It would be nice to have breakdown of one of the song live arrangement and mix btw.
This editor goes so hard for this video and it's freaking incredible 😂🎉🔥
Fun!
I absolutely love the editing on this video! I laughed out loud multiple times when some edits caught me off guard.
Have listened to this track probably >50 times and haven't picked up on 90% of these details. The amount of attention to the mastering is incredible. Thanks for documenting the process!
Concrete - Lettieri’s solo, Sonny’s funk, the tight horns, and unavoidable stank face that comes when listening to that song calls for an ON THE ONE!
Cory I am BEGGING for an on the one of anything from Turbo (but would love to hear about Thriller and Ring of Saturn in particular)
I agree
Wongs cafe was the first thing that got me into vulf and I slowly spread out to other artists, y'all opened a new world of music. But the one song that completely sold me was "Disco de lune". HOT DAMN that song is absolutely perfect
Something about that song makes me cry sometimes, but in a soothing way.
Cory wong was the first of the vulf universe I found too. I think it was the song Better
@@Slappyhorse Woah that's a throw back! I can't believe I've been a fan for so long, and my love is still going strong!
@@cheeseaddict lol BUT i only discovered it late last year haha. youre lucky i wish i knew these guys that early in the game
Let's Go! Cory speaking the truth about timpani. Also, can't go wrong with orchestra hits.
No, you can’t go Wong…
Same as panini!! Oh man, how many times do you see 'paninis' on a menu?!
Exactly. Preschoolers DO need to know! I used to teach mine this stuff at that age!
First "On the One" that I have watched and it won't be the last. Breakdown of one of my favorite songs is so cool. Thanks!
I'd love to see a tour of your studio (and a run down of all your cool guitars!)
Cory wearing the Ram shirt makes me so happy. Ram is a gift to this world.
"That sounds dope!"
You gotta love how Cory hypes up other musicians and genuinely enjoys making music.
Airplane Mode is my favorite song, and I really love it in this song and that live version of Frogville. So groovy!
More cafe breakdowns plz
My absolute favourite song from Wong's Cafe
you know what I gotta go to work in about an hour and life's been getting me pretty down lately.... but I wanna thank you Cory because you make me want to grab my bass and throw down some tracks ...thanx Cory
Hope things turn around for you man! Music always helps lift my spirits I’m depressed when I don’t play for sure!
Lovin the Ram T
I love the shoutout Cory gives Woody for his solo - I saw the Wongnotes at the Beacon and Kevin absolutely crushed this solo
The editing on these makes them so 'fun'
goated editing in this one!
Regurgitating? COME ON! I've always LOVED that you (and vulf) re-used parts and ideas, giving them new life in different songs and all. We're blessed that these videos aren't behind a $250 paywall
Been using these as reference for my own compositions/mixing, such great info
Is it weird that i love the editing in this video almost as much as the music in it! 😁😉
I am living for these goofy edits. So much joy!
I would love to see an On the One for First Avenue. That song is incredible!
Also love the editing in this video. Kept it really fun. So that’s fun.
That stereo bus of the drums with no plugins sounds sick. So tight, dry and full. Love it.
I’d love to see an One the One episode on Gumshü. I simply will never get tired of making my neck sore jamming to it.
Subscribed for the “kind of fun” confetti and DMB shoutout.
I like the stuff with you and Petar , doing reactions and freaking out , picking on band members . THAT is good stuff ! Thanks man .
What an entertaining and insightful video 🔥This was really fun to watch, thanks Cory, also for the feedback on our headphones 🎧
It's So funny that Cory has this developed this wildly popular signature guitar tone (featured in plug-ins that guitarists pay good money to emulate) and it's so dry that he can't even tell whether he recorded through an amp or straight in without one lol. Love it.

On the One is one of my favorite things you put out. Heck yeah! Fun!
Oooh that Jomez mug sneakin in the shot. A man of fine taste
I love the imperfection that you can really only hear when listening to the solo'd tracks. The time is a bit rough here and there. There are some flubs. But then when you hear the whole mix, it's just fat and human and fun.
This was a very fun🎉 video!
Entertaining and insightful… these are awesome! Also loving the F#7add4/E chord….
What I love about your music is that I can pretty easily sit back and mindlessly enjoy a sick groove. But I can also sit down and listen intentionally, and it brings the whole experience to another level, and I really appreciate that. 🤘
Well since you insist... I would love an On the One of Over the Mountain... the iso on Sonny's and Sierra's solos have got to be a trip.
one of my favorite breakdown vids. edits were great
Thanks so much for making these On The One videos... so helpful. I'd love to see one about You Got to be You, probably my favorite song off Wong's Cafe.

Man, this is my favourite thing to watch on TH-cam right now.
Breakdown "Radio Shack"!! Another one of my favorite tunes off that same album!
I love these videos! It would be tight to see the next one from your recorded live shows. I get pumped every time and I love the process. It's great content, thanks Cory!
Well that was FUN!!! I would love to see a break down of Power Station.
That was a lot of FUN Cory!! 😆Thanks!!
All sound super Natural. ❤
Cory this is amazing but man this edit had me cracking the whole 28 mins haha you're entretaining to watch 😆
the evh frankenstrat at the end killed me. well done
A Road Trip on the one would be lit
I like how Joe Dart is not playing a bass, but a "JOE DART BASS" as stated in the video description.
Love it! Has a "Simon" vibe 🎉
You are the King Of Clean! (Loved you at The Pageant in StL!) For me, this has been “The Year of Cory Wong”, nothing else compares.
YOU GOTTA BE YOU!!!!!!!!! BREAK DOWN YOU GOTTA BE YOU
Please, please you got me down on my knees. I neeeed CDs
Epic Breakdown. May I suggest that you do the next ON THE ONE episode going through Olympia from the Power Station Album?
Like your guitar overdubs, especially that first one. Cool sound!
23:05 Somehow, I have been unaware of the Wong Notes podcast until this moment. Oh, I see I'm in for some fun in the coming days!
Always a treat to see the process Cory , I love these ! Could you do one with a Fearless flyers tune ? It looks so minimalist from the outside but I'm sure it isn't
PLEASE do one on your Blackbird cover 🙏
@@TheLuchoyyo invitame a comer guiso hermano!!!!!!

Cuando venga el Cory le hacemo una milanesa, se queda pasiempre
Ojala algúna vez venga a chile 😭😭

These are always so fascinating. That’s fun.
A couple other things:
1. FUN!
2. We need an On The One for "Lilypad" from Paisley Park Session
3. Thank you for what you do
this is so fun to watch omg
Love this album, love this track, great video! It's Fun!
I actually don't care what track you dissect, any episode of On the One I will watch multiple times over. I love love love this series. Please keep it coming! Would love a breakdown of Meditation! Definitely one of my favorites :)
I want to know the name of the Documentary about orchestra hits! Wanna see that!
I clicked this so fast when I saw it. One of my favourite CW tunes!
Let's Go!
I love track breakdowns in general, but yours are both entertaining and really instructive. Let's have 🎉
27:20 left me so unsatisfied - I had to go buy a noise maker and some confetti and do it myself
This song reminds me so much of "Bruce" by Rick Springfield. The lyrics in the chorus are easily interchangeable. Loved that one big time.
Love these, I would be very grateful if you could break down some more off of Power Station, particularly Road Trip, Over the Mountain, and J.A.M. (Just a Minute). Beyerdynamic is goated for sure. Love these breakdowns!
Awesome, Cory. Thanks homie
This editing slaps!

Awesome video! Thank you so much. Also, I'm curious which documentary you saw about orchestra hits :)
keep kicking ass Cory
I would love an episode of One the one on either Concrete, Here to stay or Olympia!
this is great!!
16:01 oh, man, I chose a wrong moment to take a drink. Narrowly avoided disaster. :D
What fun 🤩 ✊🏼And, one timpano sounds great too, especially in Italian 🤓
Dope !
So much funnnnnn
This is such awesome content.
That was awesome THANK YOU. perfect TH-cam. Great learning and soooooo freaking fun haha. More please! Artist’s choice for the song. If you love it we’ll love it
How FUN 🎉
Since you're asking I'd love to see a breakdown of Lilypad - my favorite song to run to because of the tempo.
Looking forward to seeing you and the band this September in Copenhagen!
If "rhythmic undercurrent" isn't the title of the next record I don't want it!
Thank you Cory! I would like to understand the mix of Thriller when you play with Dirty Loops or that of Smooth Move with Tom Misch.
There has to be a Huey Lewis vocal overdub mashed in to this.
Was there a tiny bit of inspiration from "The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis? Great song!
Awesome video, so 🎉fun 🎉 and instructive at the same time. And I love this song, especially the live version you did with your band (but this original is dope too !). It would be nice to have breakdown of one of the song live arrangement and mix btw.
