was so good to see you on the ferry!! As seasoned users of the ferry we can assure you that there is no need to chuck food! If your ever inspected they just have a quick look for people You are going to bloody love spain
which you can make your vids a hour long as you are the a very nice couple to travel around with your lovely two dogs as hope you injoy the life in france as more places to vist
We travel twice a year into Europe in our RV never once been checked for meat or dairy. First time we did give away what we had but never again. You live and learn. You will get checked for stowaways on the way back but otherwise they don’t seem to care about rules and regulations.
As you found out zero fridges/freezers whilst on the ferry but fridge stuff keeps ok whilst off, Have to admit even after 35 years on trucks its always a relief to get through without being checked is a bonus. Big mistake not setting your sat-nav before embarkation every thing helps to save getting lost on the wrong side of the road but a good bonus is you have a left hand drive RV , enjoy your trip and safe travels.
Gutted the bikes were stolen ! Motorhome life is full of micro dramas , no fun when your having them but your making memories and one day you’ll look back & smile. Your on a steep learning curve so strap in & enjoy the ride ❤
Good luck you two and safe travels, looking forward to your journeys in Europe, you 2 looking so relaxed now in the rv 👍👍❤️👍👍 cheers the noo 🏴🏴
Our first trip abroad in our motorhome we didn't take any meat or diary stuff, I did hide a couple of things, but the next time we just took it all..we've never heard of anyone actually being searched for the food. But understand your first time as it's a worry if you get caught. So sorry to hear about your bikes, typical the police can't help. Hope you enjoy your first trip in your new RV. Exciting times ahead ❤❤
The Portsmouth St Malo night ferry has an excellent restaurant, our favourite start to a journey watching the lights of Portsmouth slip by as you eat. Never had any problems with stuff in our fridge. You’ll notice on your travels in France that some of the village signs are upside down, it’s the local farmers showing displeasure. I put our magnetic U.K. sticker upside down on the van to show displeasure over Brexit.
Good night Hayley and Micheal i love watching your you tube videos on your you tubr channel I hope that both are all well and enjoying your adventures aboard in France please keep safe and well please keep up your you tube channel cheers both of you
Great update on your travels guys. So sorry to hear about the bikes, scum bags everywhere these days!!! Glad you didn’t let it spoil your trip so far, looking forward to following your travels in Europe
Great video guy's, we are using the Hull to Rotterdam ferry in 2025 for the first time, always used the tunnel in the past. So this was helpful as we also have 2 small dogs and a pet cabin. It's amazing how much sick can come out of such a small dog...
Ah brilliant that’s so exciting! Glad the video was useful! We were looking for videos that showed the whole process from start to finish to ease our nerves so that’s what we decided to show! Do you have a motorhome & what countries are you planning to visit? I know, tell us about it!! 🤢🤦🏽♀️
@ Yes we have a 7.4m Carado (2018). We go to the EU for 3 months every year usually May June and July to avoid the summer holidays 😂. We always end up at Annecy for several weeks but our route to get there is literally to follow our nose and see where it takes us.
Awwww guys, so so sorry about the bikes, hope you get sorted soon. If I had known you were heading out so soon I’d have told you not to worry about the meat and dairy, we took loads with us, end of the day it’s for personal consumption not like you’re selling it. We decided to take ours and if we got checked and told to throw it we would have, they didn’t even bother and we did get checked by security but only asked about knives and possible stow aways. 😊 Every day is a school day. Poor little pooches with those horrible muzzles. ❤️ Have a great time, we’re taking the same trip in 6 weeks in ours 😊👍
Thank you - we were gutted!! Ah gosh we were just too paranoid with it being our first time going on the ferry! Yep it definitely is we’ve learnt soo much on this journey so far 😅 I know bless them they hated the muzzles. Not long to go!! We will keep updated with your videos and try tie in with you guys xx
@ I bet you were, not like you got them for free, not that it would make any difference really but you actually sold your car to buy them, I’m hoping you can claim on insurance to soften the blow. We too were very nervous when we took our fifth wheel to France last year, you learn as you go along 😊 we have a lot more to learn too now we have the RV 😂. Take of yourselves and enjoy the ride. 👍
We have done this crossing loads of times in our caravan since brexit and have never been searched for dairy and meat products so take them every time we go.
Daughter had her bike stolen. She found it for sale on marketplace. Police then went around and retrieved the bike back. Sometimes you have to do your own investigating. 😩
Bad luck on the bike thefts. I would recommend Kriptonite bike locks. There are 2 or 3 kinds, get the most expensive one and it will only require one for two bikes probably. Have had one for 3 years and on one occasion 3 bikes alongside my expensive bike were stolen and mine wasn''t. Bike thieves know considerable effort and time is required to get through a Kryptonite chain or it's lock. They resist upto 30 minutes attack with a large battery powered angle grinder and are impossible to chomp through with chain cutters. If you lose the key though your stuffed. Have a great trip.
theres another couple on Steps 2 Adventure and theyre back and forward to france and spain in there camper they do a great job explaining the pet rules inc muzzles they're worth a watch
I’m so sorry you had your bikes stolen. We have electric bikes and we’re always so paranoid they’re going to be stolen and so very rarely leave them. If we do we lock them with a Sold secure gold rated lock. This was required by the insurance.
I know it’s such a shame that you can’t have nice things these days without being stressed about it! Yes we will definitely be investing in better locks if we get bikes in future!
Don't worry you'll get by enjoy your vacation check out the local bike shop abroad they may have a Deal going other than that just chill out and enjoy your selfies
Careful regarding leaving your bikes anywhere. My brand new bicycle was stolen from outside a very busy supermarket in a city centre in the Netherlands. Good bike locks won't work - they they have special cutting tools. The bikes are put in a van and taken to another city to be sold.
Really sorry to hear of your bikes being stolen. I had a spare wheel stolen from underneath my Mercedes Viano. Will never stay in Portsmouth again. Good luck with your trip.
So sad about your bike's, and the poor wee dogs being sea sick, don't think you can get seasickness band's for doggie 😂 we usually feed our dog early in the morning if going on the ferry at night, and just a light diet on the ferry, i must admit you are a very confident driver 👏 we have the satnav ready for as soon as we get off the ferry, we were very nervous first time going through the tolls in Spain, and a tight fit 😅 with the rv looking forward to seeing your next video, enjoy your travels
I know - life does like to challenge us at times! I think we fed them at 4 and the ferry was at 8 so next time we will feed them much earlier! Yeah Michael is such a confident driver - I would be soo stressed!! The most challenging part is the language barrier at the tolls but Google translate got us through! 🙌🏼
I’d have brought my e-bike into the shop. I wonder, would it be prudent to increase your preparedness, situational awareness and incident planning? Can you both drive the RV? Both deal with a breakdown or puncture? Have you checked your tyres comply with the laws in the countries you’re planning to visit? Wishing you fair winds and following seas on your onward voyage!
Hindsight is a wonderful thing! We like to expect the best rather than the worst and we just deal with things as they come rather than stressing about all the things that might happen! Thank you 🙏🏼
if you go through italy be very careful around turin, i used to drive a lorry abroad and my insurance was void around turin due to how much theft and crime.
Enjoy France it’s amazing. As soon as you are off the ferry you will notice a massive change. (The roads for one😂) Due to the time of year you are probably best going down south. There are so many amazing places to visit. Are the visas just for France or the whole E.U?
The visas are technically for France but because there are no borders you can travel within the Schengen. We also have our 90 days in the Schengen on top
Sorry to hear about your bikes being taken. Maybe think about security on your home. Extra locks, alarm and cameras. I know it’s exciting but maybe just take a moment and think of things. Can’t wait for next one x
Sorry to hear you had such a bad start to your trip abroad those people who stole your bikes must’ve been an organised gang to do it that quick I watch a lot of TH-camrs who go abroad and you have to be so careful Matt from finders beepers history seeker had his phone stolen and his passport stolen and he was asleep in his car and the police said it was an organised gang and they couldn’t do nothing. I hope you’ve got cameras around your motorhome and outside looking forward to seeing your videos abroad 👍
Thank you Clifford! Yes I think they must have been following us which is scary! We are planning to up the security in our van to be as safe as we can! ❤️
You just made port solent sound so posh 🤣 and my Scottish mum pronounced it Ports Mouth and me being half English pronounced it Ports muff. We live just over the water on the Isle of Wight.
😂 it was a lovely place! Ah that make sense as I am actually half English and Michael is fully Scottish! The Isle of Wight looks lovely - we’ve never been so maybe a place to visit when we get back 😊
@ it’s well worth a visit. It’s like going back in time, although you’ll find the ferry across probably more expensive as your St Malo ferry. Enjoy your trip, look forward to watching more of your adventures
Were you told by customs that you could take milk/meat etc? Or did you hear from some one that you could not take things abroad? We use that ferry and others several times a year and have never been looked at !
You should use your social media platform to get your bikes back, put posters out with every bit of detail, make them too hot too handle and someone will know something, it happened to Tom syndicate to get his mates quad bike back
We booked the ferry on the Monday for the Wednesday so only 2 days before! However we did look at the ferry’s going from UK to Spain and there were no pet friendly cabins left so think you have to book them further in advance 😊
Sad start. Put it behind you. Just a tip when dealing with shopping going forward. I do not know what the standard of locks are on the RV. The RV is clearly a UK one as can be seen by the number plates. Now when going into the shopping centres/ super stores. In large towns one of you stay in the van. Is is known that thieves watch the car parks for MH one of the gang members will follow you two into the shop and keep in contact via phone to their partner who will break in and look for passports and Computers iPads and the like. Obviously you are going to leave the vehicle unattended on your travels but large commercial places are not the best to leave unattended. Find a safe stash area in the van which would be difficult to quickly find and put things away there
Cities are obvious places with higher bike theft. Also if you don't know a place then the risk is higher because you may be taking a risk based on poor knowledge. It takes seconds to cut through cheap cycle lock cables. You really need multiple levels of security so the potential thief can see the time spent dealing with it will put them at risk of being caught. You could also put trackers on the bikes.
@@ToKnowFreedom That is CEX Commercial Road. When I first saw the video it looked like you parked the bikes on the main road but watching it again, it's a side road, away from CCTV although there is a bank across the street. There's a bus stop at the entrance which is quite busy but probably nowhere to lock the bikes. Just up the road there is a big cycle parking area where commercial road curves round, or there was. I live outside Portsmouth but have visited that CEX many times years ago. Not by bike though. Last time i cycled into Portsmouth I nearly got knocked off twice!
as i am so gutted to hear of your bad news as like you can not have anything in this nasty world we live in as i do much hope that you get the bike back as so sorry to hear of your news
Are there no foodbanks in Portsmouth that you could have donated food to as opposed to just throwing it away ? and seriously , how many truckers do you think empty their fridges and throw anything away ?
We didn’t want to go into the town with the RV because their is a clean air zone and we no longer had the bikes! I know we shouldn’t have thrown it looking back we were just paranoid! You live and learn ❤️
Have you got sufficient security for the van, as an example we've got 5 Blink Cameras Tracker VanGuard Alarm Steering lock Listen to what people are telling you, don't take things for granted be aware of your surroundings take precautions don't let your guard down. Can't believe you chucked your food as well, you really do need to do more research.
Wait until you get to Spain, the spanish love the Scots.l have had a couple of campervans and always travelled to Spain whenever possible. We now live north of Barcelona, which is slightly nicer than my hometown of Paisley, and that feeling of leaving the ferry is fantastic!😎👍
We are going to get lots more security so that we can be as safe as possible! Thank you for the suggestions 🙏🏼 I know you live and learn - we were just going by what it said on the ferry website!
@@ToKnowFreedom Yes and paid cash,no mortgage, the cost of living is possibly a 3rd less than the UK.Scotland will always be my roots, but we couldn't cope with the wind and rain,so it was a no brainer!😎👍
Absolutely love your videos Really pissed about your bikes bloody lowlifes, are you covered by Insurance? You will need your bikes I think on your travels. Stay safe guys
It’s a shame that people are so desperate to steal your goods, you really feel that the thief(s) was watching your movements which is pretty scary, but you really do have to make sure your items are well secure and preferably out of sight if they are in your vehicle, it’s a shame you didn’t have a an Apple AirTag tracker, maybe look into that next time, take care and keep em peeled. Enjoy your journey.🎉
I know we said that they must have been following us as it was all too fast! 😳 yes definitely - we will be much more careful from now on. An AirTag is a great idea - still not sure whether the police would have done anything about it right enough 🙄 Thank you ❤️
Hi guys sorry to hear about your bikes 🚲 getting stolen fking twats you should be able to leave your bikes while u buy goods out of a shop. Please don’t let this affect your adventure. You too have such good vibes keep the videos coming. Best of luck guys Jack ❤ x P.s when u going to put ur Christmas 🎄 stuff up in the motorhome. X
I know it’s shocking really isn’t it! Thank you that’s lovely 🥰 We are not sure whether to decorate or not because then we have to find somewhere to store all the stuff 🤷🏽♀️ Would be fun for a video though!
I know it was a bit of a rubbish start but we tried not to let it get us down! Still lots of great things going on! We just had combination locks so not the most secure that you can get! Yeah I think Michael says it the Scottish way and I say it the English way!!
Hate the state of this country...can't have anything nice nowadays so it seems. Crime on such a high and the polis do nothing. Enjoy your time away from here 👍⚒️
@@mrsteadyhands6408 yeah unfortunately it is, saying that, I spent a lot of time travelling in Europe in my motor home and thankfully never had any problems
Throwing away costly food and then going to eat in a restaurant doesn't make sense guys come on. At least that's what the editing makes it look like, correct me if that's wrong.
@@gillianmellin8315 I think that was the last thing on their minds. They probably had an enough on their plate with the bikes being nicked to think about donating.
And also standing out with the bikes I don't think it's a deterrent, they will just barge you out the way and take them, unfortunately it's how it is now riding a £3000 bike down a road now is dangerous as a van will pull in front 2-3 men jump out wack the rider then off on false plates

Appreciated - I know it’s very sad 😞
Are you insured for the bikes? I hope so x
Unfortunately not 😢
@ gutting x
Are there no foodbanks in Portsmouth that you could have donated food to as opposed to just throwing it away ? and seriously , how many truckers do you think empty their fridges and throw anything away ?
We didn’t want to go into the town with the RV because their is a clean air zone and we no longer had the bikes! I know we shouldn’t have thrown it looking back we were just paranoid! You live and learn ❤️
Portsmuff.
Great video, dogs look cute. Sorry about the bikes. Take care and have a good trip/adventure 👍
We feel for you with the dog vomit episode. Shame to hear about those bikes.
So sorry to hear about your bikes.....god theres some scum about...Anyway enjoy your travels and be safe
Yeah it’s such a shame how horrible some people can be!! Thank you very much we can’t wait to explore Europe 🙌🏼
Sorry to hear about your bikes being stolen but on the bright side they are a lot more cheaper to buy in France .
There’s always a silver lining 😂
Have you got sufficient security for the van, as an example we've got
5 Blink Cameras
Tracker
VanGuard Alarm
Steering lock
Listen to what people are telling you, don't take things for granted be aware of your surroundings take precautions don't let your guard down.
Thank you for the suggestions 🙏🏼
I know you live and learn - we were just going by what it said on the ferry website!
We are hoping to spend the majority of our time in Spain! Aw wow do you now own a house in Spain?
@@ToKnowFreedom Yes and paid cash,no mortgage, the cost of living is possibly a 3rd less than the UK.Scotland will always be my roots, but we couldn't cope with the wind and rain,so it was a no brainer!😎👍
Would be nice if a Bike company could step in and help and get some valuable sponsorship
Absolutely love your videos Really pissed about your bikes bloody lowlifes, are you covered by Insurance? You will need your bikes I think on your travels. Stay safe guys
Thank you so much 🥰 I don’t think so unfortunately! Hopefully we can get new ones soon but for now we will be getting the steps in 😊
its pronounced Mouth because its fully of Gobby Skates!
An AirTag is a great idea - still not sure whether the police would have done anything about it right enough 🙄
Thank you ❤️
My theory is it's not nailed down or screwed down or locked , someone will nick it given the chance !!!
Yes have heard of people cutting through even the strongest of locks it’s ridiculous!! 👎🏼
Never chuck the steaks
Hi guys sorry to hear about your bikes 🚲 getting stolen fking twats you should be able to leave your bikes while u buy goods out of a shop. Please don’t let this affect your adventure.
You too have such good vibes keep the videos coming.
Best of luck guys
Jack ❤ x
P.s when u going to put ur Christmas 🎄 stuff up in the motorhome. X
I know it’s shocking really isn’t it!
Thank you that’s lovely 🥰
We are not sure whether to decorate or not because then we have to find somewhere to store all the stuff 🤷🏽♀️
Would be fun for a video though!
@
Just get some light and tinsel everybody needs a bit of sparkle in their life. Lol
@@JackJones-n6l yeah you’re right fairy lights and tinsel are a must!!
@
Look forward to seeing them on the next video. X
Totally gutted for you. What a downer. What type of lock did you have? Down south, we say Portsmouth how you pronounce it Fern.
I know it was a bit of a rubbish start but we tried not to let it get us down! Still lots of great things going on! We just had combination locks so not the most secure that you can get!
Yeah I think Michael says it the Scottish way and I say it the English way!!
portsmouth not PORTS MOUTH
Typical that UK police cannot do anything, Smart move covering the Rag with the Saltire LOL
Freedoooommm 🏴😂😂
Hate the state of this country...can't have anything nice nowadays so it seems. Crime on such a high and the polis do nothing.
Enjoy your time away from here 👍⚒️
Unfortunately it’s not just the UK, it’s everywhere, be careful guys 🙏
@Darenbranch such a shame
It's not just the UK, it happens everywhere.
@@mrsteadyhands6408 yeah unfortunately it is, saying that, I spent a lot of time travelling in Europe in my motor home and thankfully never had any problems
It really is sad!! There are still some nice safe places thankfully but definitely need to stay vigilant! Thank you so much ❤️
THE POLICE ARE ABSOLUTELY USELESS
Yep!! 🙄
Throwing away costly food and then going to eat in a restaurant doesn't make sense guys come on. At least that's what the editing makes it look like, correct me if that's wrong.
A lot of this makes no sense
We had no water and cleaned the entire van so didn’t want to make a lot of mess before going on
The food could have been donated surely?
They have explained why they threw away the food for security reasons in the vlog.
@@gillianmellin8315 I think that was the last thing on their minds. They probably had an enough on their plate with the bikes being nicked to think about donating.
Should not have through out any food the security dont bother about it !
Yeah we know for next time!! 🤦🏽♀️
And the thieves know the police won't do a thing, !
And also standing out with the bikes I don't think it's a deterrent, they will just barge you out the way and take them, unfortunately it's how it is now riding a £3000 bike down a road now is dangerous as a van will pull in front 2-3 men jump out wack the rider then off on false plates
