Great video, Steve. I love ships, ferries, etc. I have been on many cruises and for me the best part is when we are at sea. Looking forward to your Cherbourg adventure. Cheers
I did this journey in 2019, having previously travelled from Rosslare. Going by Motorcycle, Dublin shortens the journey a fair amount. Cairnryan - Larne, then down to Dublin, and an overnight gets you a decent way into France without all the hassle of driving from Scotland to the South of England. The ship was new when I went on it. Due to being up very early, I had some dinner, went to bed early and woke up in France. We were an hour late disembarking as I remember, but no great hassle. Dinner and breakfast were tasty, if expensive, even when pre-booked. Return journey was Zeebrugge to Hull and a very wet run home from there.
You're right, not exciting but still a good trip. I love being out at sea and ferries offer a no-nonsense trip out on the ocean. Thanks for another great ferry video.
Another great video Steve I find them so relaxing, have always loved anything boat and sea related. I spent nearly two hours the other evening watching a couple of your videos to Shetland. I told my girlfriend when she got back home about them, and she thought it was something I had dreamt, was like no I actually watched this.
Hi Steve, yeah back in the day my wife and I used to love the ferry. Used to go to bed at 5pm, get up and out of the house at midnight, leave Aboyne (Aberdeenshire) and I would aim to be at Dover for the 9am ferry. We did this for years until the kids came along then caravan holidays were the thing. Then air travel was really cheap so we used that for holidays but I’m due to retire in a few years and I think I’d love to do the kind of trips that you do! Cheers Steve, great video as usual!👍👏👏👏❤️

As a child, I always thought the travel day was possibly the best part of the holiday. It's been a long time since I travelled on a ferry (need to remedy that) so most of my journeys these days involves an airport and I have to say, nowadays, the overcrowding and selfish behaviour from so many people is a big turn-off and travelling doesn't hold the same joy for me as it once did. Thank goodness there's people like you and Scott who do it for us...
the one thing i can say about in Ireland is that they are not miserly at all when it comes to their portion sizes so the food cost is actually worth it and its really nice as well into the bargain.
Steve I just discovered your channel. You are such a kind, gentle, and sincere person. I really love that you are opening the world of "Ferry Travel" to us. I had no idea these options existed and now I plan to take full advantage of it. Thank you so much for what you do.

I totally love ship travel and it was really nice to join you on board this ferry trip. The food looked excellent. Cheers from NZ.

Yet another brilliant production. You always make the most of your travels and you are a joy to watch. Long may you continue and don't be afraid to try a nice long train journey. I would love to see that
I love the way you do these videos Steve. I always feel like I'm there with you, and often feel disorientated for a short while when they reach the end. I've been binge watching a few I've missed, and have enjoyed every one. Thanks Steve!
You can see the love in Steve's eyes every time he gets on a ferry. Btw, I don't think many outside these isles would get the three/tree reference 😂
Im in South Africa, I get it :)
@@jameslivingstone7428 😀
I remember a joke, 2 Irishmen see a sign that says, Tree Fellers Wanted, one turns to the other and says we should go get Mickey and we can apply
I think DFDS looks the best ferry company for facilities on the ship going by the videos you have done. Enjoyed you showing us the whole journey and finding your way about from A to B lots of useful info seeing it the way you see it.
Agree 100% Steve, the journey is THE best part of the holiday and the longer it takes, the better, especially when it's train and ferry! (Maybe less so for flying!)
You're right Steve, the journey is a great part of any trip. Most especially the journey home afterwards.
"But I don't use P&O"
Like for that alone. 👍
The crossings from Dublin, Rosslare and Cork to France and Spain are so much better value than the Irish sea crossings, despite often being the same ships.
Hmmmm!
Cracking video nevertheless 😊😊😊😊😊
You did Dublin proud on this video Steve, it looked really well. The walk to the Poolbeg lighthouse is really great as is Howth. Come back to Dublin anytime
I remember getting trams to Howth and back (Sutton?) many, many years ago! And at the time when they would have been a tourist attraction, they scrapped them!!!
Never thought I would be able to instantly recognise the train station in Montrose, Scotland. But here we are!
Very enjoyable!!! Thanks for taking us along, Steve. Much appreciated.
It always feels cozy travelling with you, Steve.
Brilliant! Just sitting down with this and breakfast. That cinema is showing quality films. All three are great!
Another great video Steve I find them so relaxing, have always loved anything boat and sea related. I spent nearly two hours the other evening watching a couple of your videos to Shetland. I told my girlfriend when she got back home about them, and she thought it was something I had dreamt, was like no I actually watched this.
I favourite time on a ferry is the early morning when few people are up and the sun is coming up over the sea. Bliss.
My Dad was raytown, ringsend you brought a lot of memories to me. Thank you.
Oh! How remiss of me to forget to mention W.B.Yeats' wonderful poetry! Fantastic to see some of it on board! 👍🙏🕊️🙏🇮🇪🏴
And his famous brother artist Jack Yeats .let me know if you may have any for sale ?
What I love about ferries is that they are like an hotel that is moving, you go to your room and the next day you are at a different place.
Great video Steve. Those harbour pilots have nerves of steel just jumping across onto a huge ferry. One wrong step 😱😱😱
I used to do it with DAFS..😊
Balls of steel. Can't imagine it in rough weather.
As an 82 yo here in Adelaide your video reminded me of my many trips Holyhead ti Dun Laoghaire( now Dublin) - wish we had Irish Ferries then- most interesting programme🇮🇪🇦🇺
Irish Ferries is the old B&I
Good to see that you had summer in Montrose . . . Good vlog Steve
Thanks Steve, enjoyed coming on this adventure! Had a beauty of a day on the Ayrshire coast yesterday, back to rain this morning!!!!!
Its summer again today in Ayrshire
@@douglasgrahamdronefilmingp2068 Oh don't!! I would have stayed if possible. Off to York now so hopefully catch the sun there!!!!
Proper nostalgic feeling for me. I a former life, when I was much younger, I was in and out of that port, and on Irish ferries 4 or 5 times a year.
Another great video Steve
That pie is exactly what I would have chosen…….i could taste it from here 🇨🇦 What an enjoyable video. Thank you
Wonderful and exciting as always❤🎉😊 Thanks
I live in nz and after almost 2 decades her I miss the easy and affordable way of seeing more than this country. Your videos take me there
Yes Steve the journey is a major part of the holiday. Recently driving from the Midlands to Thurso over 3 days was fantastic. You really get to see the country, and totally falling in love with Scotland.
love ferries too..some great ones around British columbia, Canada..enjoying your travels..thanks
Love these blogs . Love ferries especially Greek ones , chaotic and fun 😂
I don’t get around well anymore and appreciate you taking me along with you. I love your videos. Thank you
At 15:00 those people were walking on the South Bull Wall, a popular walk for Dubliners. A great spot to watch the traffic in and out of the port.
This is a cumulative thank you, all the places, experiences, weather, nature and curious things in your world you’ve shown us - and staying in down to earth hotels, and often overnight in chairs - what a current travel world you show us, amazing … again, thank you Mr. Positive Humorous Steve!
Nice to see another gannet fan - they have the most beautiful streamlined faces. Love your ferry videos - for me, a bad ferry is still better than no ferry :)
I could watch them all day! :)
Hi Steve, I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. Love coming alone on your trips. Here's to many more.
When you are aboard and the ship is moving go to the pursers desk and see what upgrades are available.
You might be amazed.
Your videos are so calming, warm and welcoming. It feels like traveling with a good friend. Will have to do a ferry journey soon.
Another Steve Marsh classic! Love it!
I couldn't agree with you more Steve, it's not about the destination, the journey is definitely the best part. I visited Cherbourg in 1976 on board SS Australis (previously SS America) on a journey from New Zealand to UK. Almost 5 weeks of fun and good times. I totally love ship travel and it was really nice to join you on board this ferry trip. The food looked excellent. Cheers from NZ.
The only way to travel Steve 👍🏼
Brilliant journey Steve thank you for sharing (and a nice lkng video at that )
Nice video 📹 Steve and enjoy the rest of the journey
Love this
See dear ould Ireland again, my heart is there
That was an enjoyable video Steve. I thought the choice of food was amazing on the ferry and the cabin looked perfect 💕
As a Marylander I was shocked when I saw Maryland Crab cakes on the menu for a Dublin to Cherbourg ferry. 😮 and it even mentioned Old Bay. 😮😮. When I was in Ireland in 2022 never saw it there and we looked and asked folks. Keep up the good, informative and entertaining work.
Kia ora from a beautiful spring evening in Auckland NZ
In my sick bed with man flu and it's been a pleasure watching
Best wishes to you Steve
Thank you 👍
Get well soon! Man flu can be serious! 😉
€7.50 for a pint. Robbing swines. I would have filled a backpack full of cans in Dunnes stores...lol. Howth Peninsula is a lovely spot. Lots of nice cliff walks and hidden coves. Beautiful pier with top pubs, resteraunts and chippers. On a nice day you can get a small boat over to Ireland's Eye. Lovely walk to the summit with a gorgeous view of the surrounding bay.
7.50 average price of pint now even in shithole pubs on land 😂
@@joeoI don't know where you are drinking pal but 15 minutes up the road from the port you can get a pint for €5 or 6 odd unless you are in temple bar tourist trap.
@@megadevilbird 7.50 in fancier pubs and 6.50 to 6.80 in the shitholes were i am

Absolutely love your vlogs Steve. Thank you for sharing
Love your videos as I can no longer travel due to a sick family member.
Ever thought of packing a plug in travel element of very small travel kettle. They are great. I use to be a country representative in South Africa. I even carried a small fan as well as a small heater. I paid the hotel a little extra if i used my heater. Most didn't mind as i was a regular customer
Good on you Steve for staying true to your principles. Like you, the journey is an integral part of any of my trips/holidays, ever since I was a nipper.. Yet again, very professional and informative.
