Raven if you were still wondering about the lore for her hiring the other varangians the event order says "fight for me, and all that's mine -- all that's theirs -- will be yours."
I love how the sweep in Exe#3 doesn't make warden do some crazy flip or something. It just slips out his one leg and brings him down to one knee, just as it should.
Actually on the last execution, you can look closer and it's not hitting the chest, all strikes hit around the neck/jaw area. (I watched them with playback speed turned all the way down) The 1st strike is like a sideways-ish uppercut The 2nd strike is sideways and goes directly across the throat The 3rd strike ofc is with the shield and it seems like another hit to the throat, maybe the lower jaw.
I like how on the third Exe she actually cleaves it through the person by punching it, instead of having to pull it out. Id definitely say thats more effective than just pulling it out ngl.
You know, after seeing these executions, it’s clear the devs are starting to get the right idea on what an execution should look like. A thought had occurred to me though. What would happen if we compared the average graded execution of the varangian guard with that of the others? Here’s the catch, the other heroes have their averages recalculated using 4 of their best executions since there were 4 executions on this new hero.
I think a good indicator that the second execution is crushing the windpipe is that there is a small spurt of blood when the axe hits the neck. This either means that there was enough pressure to crush it, or more I likely I think the neck was cut itself.
Normally I would agree, but Ubisoft will have blood spray for almost anything sometimes. Haha. So it's hard to know if that's an indicator. But I see your point.
I think you missed something in the back breaking execution, there is a blood spurt when she hooks the neck. I think this is her digging the bottom point of the axe into the throat, I could be wrong but I don't see another reason to have the blood. There are other executions on Zerk for example where they hook things with the axe that don't cause blood.
I understand the point you're making, and that could well be the case. The problem though is that For Honor puts blood effects on A LOT of things that don't need it. Go back and watch some executions where there should be no blood, and you'll see them throw blood on it. Frankly, I can never trust the blood effects.
12:45 I believe it feels slow is because they did a similar thing to kensei's evisceration execution where they slow mo it a little and normal speed at the impacts to emphasize the wieght of the hits.
Bare knuckle boxers have blocked punches with their head forever. The forehead is the strongest part of your skull, vs the much smaller, more brittle bones of the hand
first, yay axe and shield hero. i guess with the first one they wanted to differentiate it further from pugilism. also they could just shift their grip down the axe depending on how resilient the head they're going after is - leverage is important.
5:44 The back crack should've been a 4/4 considering the axe by default has a sharp bottom, so technically, it slit the throat and since she pulled on it more causing massive bleeding so the back breaking itself is just a mercy in my opinion
No problems with these gradings, i like them all. Honestly lemon Varang here (har har, bad joke) is one of my favorite heroes to play for that "Brutal yet precise" feeling. I would, like to note two things though. A. I think her smacking the handle with her shield was indeed to drive the axe deeper, and/or dislodge it from the shoulder, because of the angle ahe was hitting it at. I'm not certain, just a possibility. B. This one I'm confident on. I watched the slow-mo. I don't think Her axe is going just across the chest in the last one, i believe that's two strikes in different areas. One straight to the underside of warden's head in an upward arc, somewhere around the neck and chin area, but because of the axe's length it clips the chest too. The next is a diagonal slash that goes across the chest but hits the neck area JUST slightly. Basically three strikes, two to the warden's head. One from the axe, one from the spinning bash of the shield. Not sure how that affects the rating (if it does) but something to note. The angle is funny on it, so it is hard to tell, especially in fast motion.
For the third one, I would give realism a 3. Just a nitpick. Because when she sweeps the leg, she sweeps the leg forward, however, when warden kneels, it's the leg that was swept forward that goes backward into the kneeling position. I just find it kinda uncanny because I expected the leg that wasn't swept to be the one that kneels.
I was also wondering if the bottom part of the blade would cut into the throat on the back break execution, since it looks like the blade goes all the way to the bottom point, I think that'd definitely guarantee a kill
for the second execution i think the warfen is dead because when you see the end of the execution she look at him every time just like to confirm the warden is dead and in my opinion i don’t think the varangian guard is the type of warrior who let the enemies die slowly or let him paralyze but i understand your choice ^^
You know what I really like about the Varangian? The fact Ubisoft actually added Russian and Norman style armor. I was really worried they would fuck her armor up and lean way too hard into the Viking stuff, but seeing Russian Lamellar, Norman Scale, and Byzantine scale armor variations showed they really did their homework with the history of looking into this character going in. It's a nice change from the really weird stuff they did with Afeera, and an breathe of fresh air after the cosmetic..... *disasters* Pirate and Mediay were.
@@krukisstudios3955 My problem with Medjay was just the fact all of his stuff have basically no color variations or color combinations that looked good on him. At least the colors that *do* look well on him are nice, but Pirate? There is just no saving her, god her stuff just looks so awful no matter what one does to get and it makes me sad how badly none of it mashes together either.
When I heard about a new viking hero I was convinced it's gonna be another boring viking but once I saw her looks and executions... Yeah that's the first viking I wanna buy
To be fair, expecting it to be another standard Viking wasn't gonna work anyways; The devs would have had to get more creative both for gameplay and for looks, so what better option than tapping into the Varangian Guard?
I get that fact that we are going f9r straight up lethality, but being paralyzed or disabled upon the field of battle is the same as dying, because either u bleed out or another warrior finishes them off. I understand that isn't what your looking for but it seems wrong that some aren't lethal because they aren't decapitations or eviscerations
When I hear the word execution, I take that literally. You execute. You kill. So I have to be consistent. If it helps, I do agree with your sentiment. Paralysis on the field is essentially a death sentence. But I have to be consistent.
Great video as always. I do have to say that I do love the executions of VG, even if she can sometime be louder than standing next to a 747 on the battlefield 😂 Also, now that all the heroes are graded, do you think that you could ever make a single video that is spreadsheet-like that has all the hero executions final grades in it? Just as a nice bow or wrap up to this series for the time being?
@@Vergil____Sparda. Yeah, I don't see the axe having frost damage or being a boomerang, and I recall Kratos not using a kite shield at any point or even regularly having his actual shield out; Regardless, nonsense comparison and is unnecessarily reductive.
Sadly I have to say that I find that you have over scored these executions. Only the last one has any proper lethality and efficiency, the others should have had 1-2. And the cool factor is not really there, the moves are weird and I wished they would have take more inspiration from raider and warlord when making her executions.
While the cool factor is subjective, what makes you think the efficiency and lethality should be lower? (I'm guessing you weren't paying attention very much.) Adding on to that, why would you rather have more Raider and Warlord inspiration execution-wise? That doesn't really make any sense both creatively speaking and for character consistency; It'd be like wishing for Centurion to take more inspiration from Warden, which is just about as odd of a mindset.
Firstly: the axe is a brutal weapon, it´s main thing is chop and crush. The Raider and Warlord has the power and brutality within their executions that I feel VG lacks. Look at Raiders "Skull Cracker" execution and you´ll see the difference, the execution is clean, fast and guaranteed to kill. The VG uses the shield to much in the executions in comparison to the axe, this bothers me. For example: In the "Back Crack" execution she uses the beard of the axe to grab the enemy and pull them back onto the shield, the beard of nordic axes are not sharp on the inside. So it would not cut nor have the likelihood of breaking anything. The shield would hurt the back but not guarantee any kill. I also find it ridiculous how the "Head Block" execution kills by punching with the axehead into the face of the enemy, punching with the long edge of any blade will do damage, but it will not punch clean into the brain, look at any punching blade/sword, they thrust with the point of a long blade in order to limit the surface area of the blade. The only thing a punch with an axehead would do is cut the skin and bone, mabye knock out the enemy. I am in short very disappointed in the lack of proper axe kills from the VG and I do feel Raven Knight has severally over scored most of the points. In addition: you dragonbornexpress5650 have not been paying attention to your own lack of knowledge in regards to axes. If you don´t agree then we are looking for different things. @@dragonbornexpress5650
