Maximum respect for Martin Barre. Maximum respect. But, like 100% of Tull songs, live or studio, the PERCUSSION "sells" the song -- lays down the foundation, pushes the groove, floats through chord and song structure changes. I've been a guitar player since I was 14 years old in 1978. I always focused on the guitar parts . Deep Purple. Floyd. Sabbath. Zeppelin. Cream. Who. Blues cats. The Mud Man Wolf. Willie Dixon. Albert King. Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials. Lefty Diz. Melvin Taylor. Respect.
This is the reason why Guitar Hero VI is still one of my favorite games, for giving the chance to came across this guys’ incredible music. Being 22 what were my chances? But now I’ve heard all their albums and Jethro Tull is and forever will be my favorite band!
i was so glad to hear you say, at age 22, that you immersed yourself in Tull. You would be 25ys at the time of my reply. I'm 65 yrs in Sept. My first album was Thick as a Brick. We were engrossed fanatics for Tull. I am from a musically inclined family so, as a singer I bought an old flute at junk shop to embellish my abilities. I learned MANY Tull songs through the years and have performed them and still do to this day. Saw many concerts and even met Martin and Clive on two occasions . There is an earthy, haunting, ageless British Isles folksy mystique to this music. Unlike any other group . Truly magic.............. Reply
@@douglasrock9414 that's a very interesting story sir, thank you for sharing it with me. My first album was Aqualung, but I gotta say Thick as a Brick is certainly my favorite as well. I have a soft spot for Song from the Woods though.
I saw Tull live ten times between 1977 and 2008. That's one song that I've never seen them perform live. I can't believe that, until today, I had never seen this video.
Funny how that works. Saw them 7 times between 1980 & 1998 and caught Fat Man twice. But never saw Bungle In the Jungle...which they were playing on at least two of the tours I saw.
@@MrSnappy67 I never saw them do Bungle in the Jungle, either. Probably my best memory was when they did Budapest. I believe that that was the '08 show. But no two Tull shows are ever alike.
There’s a couple of other lively performances of it out there - always a joy to listen to. They may have been more recently posted, as I see your comment is from 7 years ago.
+Jacqueline Anderson It must be a great feeling to know one has written such a splendid song ... I an seems to really be enjoying it ... this is a rousing rendition of this tune !!!
I saw them perform this at least once (maybe twice), along with many others songs from Stand Up in 1999 as it was the 30th anniversary of the album. I didn't know they played this on stage in late 1983, at a time when Ian Anderson had released this unexpected solo album with Peter-John Vettese full of synthesizers and drum machines. Nice extended version. Thank you for uploading. :o))
FABULOUS ANd I Am So glad You are Perfect And Like a star in the sky near God. congratulations. your poems are beautiful and great to hear because you are delicious and superb. thank you so much for the opportunity to listen your pena gil
'when Peter was just a wee lad in short trousers' love that phrase. some years ago my then-girl and my friend and i were in the car and i used this phrase to describe something that happened in the past to indicate that it was distant past. They both, seeming confused, said at almost the same time: 'who's Peter'.
Ian's voice was so strong and clear at this time and when that flute kicks in its just awesome, im thin and still can't find a woman who will love you in the morning and all the night time 2
At a hot summer day at a festival in Wiesbaden - Biebrich at the river Rhein on the Rheinwiesen 1991 ?! Jethro Tull lighted a firework in terms of their stage - show above all their wonderful music I will never forget these exciting moments which I had the privilege and joy to photograph
Seen them the year before this in September of 1982 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland, was an amazing show. I have seen many bands over the years and played in many myself, but out of all of them i can say there is three bands that sound excellent live, one is Pink Floyd, two is Rush, and best of all Jethro Tull.
Ian Anderson und Tull begleiten mich seit meinem 14ten Lebensjahr, angefangen mit dem Album Stand UP, Passion Play ist super sowie Dharma for one ect.Vielen Dank!
Damn. This is tricky to play. Seriously. Think of it as several weavers weaving a complicated fabric on a loom at breakneck speed -- and not f-cking up. Remarkable. Tull music is the creme de la creme of Rock music.
Best performance I saw of Fat Man was Oct 10, 1980 at the Providence Civic Ctr. Ian, Dave and Peter were dressed as bums sitting on a park bench, this live recording is close to though.
Live at Montreux 2003 is a fantastic version of this song. Giddings & Noyce having heaps of fun playing percussion and Martin playing the flute verse lines.

Dave Pegg can sure hammer, I'm glad he chose that particular instrument bass guitar, which is my favorite of all instruments, besides Fife and drums of course! Much love into the future for all guys in Jethro Tull, you made damn good music and brightened up this life plus you integrated the working man with heaven in a very stout way 🐈❄️🌲🌲🌲 good fellers always in this band.
Monster bass, flute, mandolin, and bongos! Showmanship, sitting down! Great vocals. Perfection.

Jethro Tull is one of the best live bands I've ever heard...
I'm not sure if it was intentional, did your write "heard" as opposed to "saw"? Either or I think you are spot on!
Joey Joe Joe Jr. 3 times in Philadelphia and each time was better than the last!

I agree with you
Homer Simpson would think your name was weird.
What a marvelous, spirited and brilliant performance of this not so well known tune!! And that bass solo - WOW, dynamite, wicked cool!!!
Never been a more talented lead man that IA
That bass really outstanding
Martin Barre once again provides both the foundation and the highest peaks to this song.

An amazing performance by consument musicians. Sheer perfection.
Ein Vollblutmusiker🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶👌👍der Spitzenklasse !!!👌
Excellent, Bass is very slick.
Jethro Tull played background music for my life through the 70s to mid 80s
Ian's vocals were brilliant. Great footage.
A year later, his voice was gone - sadly, never to return to this strength.
Stand Up is one of the greatest albums ever created.
Can't wait to see them this summer!

Finally some great JT sound live!
Not only great music, but what group ever had more of a sense of fun?
Early Beatles and The Who would be the only other bands I could come up with.
Paul Revere and the raiders before Paul revere passed
@@pseudosmith4979 Queen. They used to drop blow up dolls from the ceiling and blow stuff up. Boring now, though.
God, this is precious. have to appreciate so many of these vintage vids of live shows to take one back there. Ian and Martin were special together🌞

One of my favorites as well. And a great live version here. Loved it.
Outstanding. Among the best composers and bands in all music history.
