Frank Zappa has always been an underrated guitarist, but he is among the most technical to ever exist. His solos always have a lot of melody, harmony and a large dose of brilliant improvisation. He deserved to be more recognized for his virtuosity on his instrument.

HAS to be one of the best live video performances of Frank’s playing, where we actually get to see him really get into the solo, and the cameraman actually panned out instead of just focusing on the finger work. FZ was a serious musician. Ugly guitar notes on a guitar that sounds like a chainsaw. Love it.

Frank is among the great guitarists of this genre like Hendrix and Page. He was truly a great guitarist and composer! I was lucky enough to see him live in Switzerland in the early eighties when I was nineteen. Just an unforgettable experience!
Leagues ahead of both Hendrix and Page. When you have an idea of what Frank did, you then realise how much more super advanced he was. Not just in compositional skills, but on guitar too. He could also write effortlessly for virtually any instrument, and way way more prolific.
Frank Zappa is synonymous with musical genius. His music has brought me joy for many decades. He is a master creator and sends us on a musical journey to far off places. Once you go Zappa, you never go back!!!
I've seen a ton of bands in my life starting with Alice Cooper in West Germany in 1972 when I was in grade 8. My biggest regret over the years (well one of my biggest regrets)was never getting to see Frank play. (the other is never having seen the Stones) As the years continue to go by that feeling of regret just seems to grow bigger and bigger. I saw frank at my very first concert at cleveland public hall in 1977. Someone was throwing cherry bombs down on the stage and I think Frank got a little pissed off, so he played Black Napkins so loud I really thought the walls were going to cave in and my ears are still ringing today. I saw him again a year later, same place. He was like no one else and I he is a very under recognized guitarist.
Frank Zappa was and is all the difference between virtuoso heroes of the tasteless guitar and a composer who sculpted air molecules as he pleased by improvising freely with his guitar.
Wow this recording really shows what a spitting image of Frank Dweezil is Hey Dweezil you'll never see this but you should be very proud and happy with how much you are your father's son
Stupendous! One of the best FZ lic=ve performances with plenty of searing guitar for ANY buff. Long, intensely creative and mind blowing. Every guitar player is unique, yet many generally sound similar to someone else. Not this guy. Completely different, yet very much like Hendrix in the sense that he was all his own and can never be truly touched. Dweezil(of course) is the closest for obvious reasons, yet admittedly can't duplicate. The class is all Frank's own. Wonderful work.
It is not so much the fingering . It is that tone . For those of us who are just meat and potatoes and think 4 minutes is long enough for a song and we just don’t do jams that much , Zappa is one of the few who can pull you in , with that tone .

FZ was WAY more of a musician/composer than he was a political satirist. He just used that medium as a lyrical content and marketing aspect for (some) of his albums.
The master. I don't think I have seen Frank so animated during a guitar solo - particularly the headbanging around the 3.30 mark. The greatest improviser on the guitar I've heard.

Once you finally kinda "get it", you get blown away by the fact that all of what you hear from Frank is ........written down! What a true monster who is sorely missed.

Since hearing his Son of an Orange Country solo on Roxy & Elsewhere I've personally rated him as one of the greatest guitarists ever. His ability to electrify with his performances is second to none. As for uniqueness & originality... look no further.
One of the VERY few available guitar prominent vids w/out filler. Great audio as well. This is the stuff to send to friends who expect guitar players to get-to- business. Excellent display w/ great close-ups of his phrasing. A quintessential example of Frank's one-of-a-kind execution on the instrument.
And to think Frank was a drummer, who picked up the guitar and taught himself at age 18 or so. A self taught musical genius. Composer, conductor, and instrumentalist. Zappa kicks ass on this solo here. Who else can compare?
Cant really figure out the correlation between his titles and the instrumentals. Perhaps just some inside joke or happening around the time he composed it. SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR album a good example. What was going thru his mind when he titled DEATHLESS HORSEY?
As a guy who immigrated from Switzerland in 1964 and started living in the Inland Empire, things just couldn't have been better than to be able see The Mothers play on his own turf. New Years Eve events were really grand. I'd be a different person if not for Frank. Thanks
Great performance - band sounds great as always. When this band came out, I was less excited about it than previous groups but now at 60 years old, it sounds so good to me. Frank’s guitar work was highly involved and creative. Just wondering whatever became of drummer, Dave Logemann, and why he only lasted a little while with the group? Maybe Vinnie called again and rejoined …
Once you're hooked on his music, you can never let it go. It's like a f****** drug man. I can't go a day without listening to his music.. If I don't listen to it, I'm going to withdraw especially his live stuff. I mean, and I'm absolutely addicted to finding Zappa bootLegs like I guess Grateful Dead fans are. Dave logeman was no vinny chester chad or my favorite Terry. Don't know how he managed that gig of course. He wasn't there long. Frank went back to Vinnie for another tour and then Chad for the rest of the time.
Frank was so unique in his way to play guitar, his solos were so deep and complicated at the same time and his guitar sound was impossible to not recognize. We will always love you Dear Uncle Frank
I loved his music back in 1968, now I'm 72 years young and I still love that shit. He should have lived longer!!!
I'm so happy I was able to see him twice, once on my 16th birthday in October 75 🎂🤠
Its timeless, I'm 68, been listening to Frank for 50 years and I still crank it to 11

Since hearing his Son of an Orange Country solo on Roxy & Elsewhere I've personally rated him as one of the greatest guitarists ever. His ability to electrify with his performances is second to none. As for uniqueness & originality... look no further.
Terrific artist, so expressive!!
A unique guitar player and a big loss at a young age.
I just can't get enough Zappa. Seen him play at the UIC in Chicago The Jerry Garcia Band was back-up. Awesome Show...
When living in LA, i met Tommy Mars, whe were late night friends, wonderfullll time. He show me what and why Zappa and band are the TOP rock
A fabulous guitarist, so original. My preferred musician when I was seventeen. Each record was a lasting fireworks.
This guy was far more than a guitarist of astronomical realms.
He was one of, if not the greatest musical composer of the 20th century.
Hum! Ça veut dire quoi une vraie gueule? Peut-être une belle gueule...
Graduate Peabody Institute of Music ..... Druid extraordinaire .... master of time and flatulence .... da man, da legend ,,,,
Who was Chunga? And why did they require , , ,REVENGE?
Hands down best comment on TH-cam 2014.
you should ask Frank when he´s alive
this reads like a norm macdonald joke
Cant really figure out the correlation between his titles and the instrumentals. Perhaps just some inside joke or happening around the time he composed it. SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR album a good example. What was going thru his mind when he titled DEATHLESS HORSEY?
Ed Hunt
Chunga was a friend of Bobby Brown and he wanted revenge for the thieves that robbed Joe's Garage!
You watch and listen to FZ and then you wonder "What else do you need in your life?"
Makes me cry everytime I see it. So fantastic. Imagine, a show just starts and than this...
What happens when you hear it ?
Frank was playing chess and everyone else was playing checkers.
It’s a crime that more people never discovered or ( got ) his brilliance.
Palais des Sports - Paris, 1980. And I was there... :)
Lickiest Sob he is
@@alexanderkalinchenko4038 I'm SO jealous but I hope you had a great time seeing him!!
Thanks for the date & locale.
"There is no hell. There is only France."
As a guy who immigrated from Switzerland in 1964 and started living in the Inland Empire, things just couldn't have been better than to be able see The Mothers play on his own turf. New Years Eve events were really grand. I'd be a different person if not for Frank. Thanks
Long live Frank...Zappa will NEVER die!!!
Jeezus, what a way to open the show...with a scorching solo by Frank.
Remember this concert in Paris, I was 18

If you ever attended a FZ concert then yo will know what 'presence' means. This 'presence' will make your hair stand on end.
From what I heard, Frink hired another drummer that he refused to work with, so he quit.
My favourite guitarist ❤❤❤
I can't say the same but he's very good!
non non he is awfull, why do you post ?
You're a tres terrible troll, mon ami.
alaincrouzat you are deft and dumb

so many masterpieces
Miss you FZ... the world lost FZ on this day, (Dec 4) in 1993.
Vinnie was my personal favorite. His synergy with Frank on Inca Roads Manchester England 1979 is unbelievable. God I wish I was alive back then….
We only live once. I was lucky in my turn to know the music that He created.
Frank was so unique in his way to play guitar, his solos were so deep and complicated at the same time and his guitar sound was impossible to not recognize.
We will always love you Dear Uncle Frank
