The cleaning is actually an important gameplay mechanic. Idk if it's implemented again after the huge update, but previously Zombies can smell rotting corpses of other zombies, wet fresh blood, bleeding wounds on you and NPCs and, you guessed it, dried blood on the walls. If this feature isn't already in build 41, it will be readded eventually. Cleaning had a purpose in the past and if it doesn't currently, it will again.
If you really like having the blood on the walls, you can disable the Zombie's sense of smell in the sandbox mode. Just be aware that your aesthetic decorating choices may have a gameplay impact either currently or in the future :)

Ahhhhh now I know what killed me.... "Corpse Sickness". I just started last week and finally got the ball rolling(after dying so many times lol). I got a solid base in a rural part of town, was building fences and log walls around my base, fully stocked kitchen and supplies, and building up my skills. But also, I decided to bury corpses just to make things tidy, and I guess that was constantly making me exposed to dead corpses. I usually only wore my fireman helmet, boots and nothing in between, so maybe I just got exposed to a disease from zombie corpses. Also didn't help that I didn't stop working on my logwalls even when it was pouring rain.
So, I eventually got sick and it just won't heal, no matter what I did. I kept bleeding even when I had no scratches and I had to wash myself daily. Even after several nights of sleep(with aid to sleeping pills), chilling in my base and resting, taking pain meds and vitamins daily, and being well-fed with freshly cooked meals, my health kept deteriorating. I noticed I had a moodlet of "Nervous Wreck" and figured this is some zombie virus. But all of this, I had no scratches, wounds, bites, etc. I knew I was gonna die cause my health was getting low, saw I was critically ill, and I wasn't able to sleep even with sleeping pills. So I stocked up my pick up truck with weapons and food, and roamed around parts of the map to explore and kill zombies. Went back home and died in my base "peacefully" lmao

i got a scratch in MP while fighting a giant mob getting guns in Muldraugh and was hanging around there for a long time, killing, and looting the guns, books and VHS store in the area, and sorting the car with all the dead around it.
I thought for sure I was infected when the sickness moodle cam up, but as I was making my way home to stash the loot and drink some bleach, I thought about it twice and remembered corpse sickness. Turned out that's all it was.

If you just tell your character to 'Eat' the food once it's done cooking, they'll slurp whatever it is right out of the cooking pot. If you have empty bowls you can portion it out and freeze it, but more than anything it increases the happiness your character gets from eating food. You can basically avoid getting depressed just by regular hygiene and using cutlery.

There's a reason the devs chose green and red light for those electronic lamps...
    Realism!
In real life, militaries have long used low level red light in dark situations where they need to read a map or look at something but cannot risk burning out or "bleaching" their eyes' innate night vision abilities. Low level red light doesn't bleach your night vision because the rods in your eyes are less sensitive to the color red within longer wavelengths of light. Although red is the iconic "night-use color" of light, there has been a shift recently to using green light or a blue-green light instead of red. Green allows retention of night vision as well as greater visual acuity and better differentiation between colors, but this is of course still at low-light levels.
    Fun fact:
You probably know your eyes contain two major types of photoreceptor neurons: rods and cones.
Cones are active in brighter conditions and they're also responsible for color perception.
Rods are active in low light or dark conditions.
This is why when you're outside at night without any light sources, you might start to notice everything looks almost totally "black and white." Color perception is biologically tied to the type of photoreceptors which are only active in higher-light conditions (cones.)
Rods outnumber cones 20 to 1 (you have about 120 million rods vs about 6 million cones,) so your rods, overall, are more sensitive because there are just way more of them.

A lot of people often miss the utilisation of luring zombies indoors to loot a key, with locked garage groups.
If storage area has a row of storage units and one of them is opened, you can lure zombie in it and kill it inside storage cell. If the zombie drops a key - it will unlock all other storage cells in this row.

If you get some zombies spawn specifically with cars - like a police roadblock with a handful of polise officer zombies nearby - there is a hefty chance one of the zombies has a key.

Challenge idea: Train life. You start with 3 vehicles (I think you said that was the max total? The way you phrased it sounded like you could hitch two cars, plus the driving car, for a total of three) and they stay hitched together the entire game. You can switch around which one is in front, but you must always keep all three cars, and that must be your only base the whole game.
One benefit to this challenge is AMPLE amounts of storage. Plus, even if you only ever use one car as the front car, if you find a source of gasoline you can always fill all three tanks up and just siphon the gas later for your main care. Some negatives, though, are no fortifying anything, slow speeds, and a lot of repair work, so I think there's a decent trade off! I'd love to see someone try something like this.
Bonus: If you use a boat as one of them, you might even be able to drag the cars out into the water! I'm not sure if they sink, though, I've never tried it. But it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't based on how the game works, so you could switch things around so the boat is the leader and just head out into the water for a while. Zombies can't swim so you could easily use that for safe sleeping, if that does work.

Quick tip for towing! When your towing a vehicle similar to real life if your in low gear in this game preferably 1 you can tow the cars at a higher speed. The way I keep it from shifting into second is keeping the cruise control at a very low speed and it won’t shift up which will let you go much faster.

6:41 i think this also works if theres a pesky wreck blocking a road you frecuent, say if you have a set road to do a gas run to fill the generator every time, then you can actually tow and move the wrecked cars that are in the way, of course this doesnt work with completely destroyed cars, those you still need the blowtorch and wielding mask to get rid off, but i have used this feature a lot to clear out roads hehe

Another benefit to cleaning up blood is that you want to clean any blood on ground where you plan on growing crops. If infected blood is on that ground when you plant, you can easily get diseased crops.

But that return to normal speed sounds like something really useful that I must check out! If only time was able to pause if a Z got to close to you... So many deaths to a Ninja Z sneaking up to me when I take a sip/eat and speeding up the game! You expect to have time to take your eyes of screen and BAM! A Z bite strike! :C Have cheated multiple times due to that kind of unfair deaths over the many games of PZ!

when a vehicle is turned upside down, by your own doing (the little jeep) or just one you find, towing it with another vehicle usually flips it back on its wheels... when I move bases I prepare multiple vehicles chuck full of stuff, and then at every trip on the way to go I tow a dart-car, the lightest and smallest and then the next day I return with only the small car... rince and repeat... at every run there's an extra car at the new base... before actually moving best to go and clear the road, hotwire or drag cars that block your way, or dismantle them entirely...

In State of Decay 2 you need to manually drive any car you want to keep so I didn’t think about it.
