Never thought I’d say this but I’m sticking with rings for 2025! Sometimes I long for the aesthetic and feel of a lovely bound book but the freedom and flexibility of rings has really been a game changer for me this year. So glad to have you back!!
Thanks, I am glad to be back, too! I have never tried rings, I feel like it is quite uncomfortable to write in rings without taking the pages out. Do you print your own inserts or order them from somewhere?
I feel the same about ring bound as the bound books. I love rings but I also need to fold my planner in half and the best option for me is disc bound planner. Jane’s Agenda has beautiful stuff for ring and disc.
@@planning_plain Somehow the rings have never bothered me while writing, but they certainly bother a lot of other people so it's understandable if they do for you, too. I print a few of my own inserts, mainly just a couple of special ones, but I purchase most of my dated monthly and weekly pages because the idea of printing and cutting all those is madness! I've gotten them from Raymay Davinci because they use Tomoe River Paper, but also Filofax with their cotton cream paper which is very nice as well.
I so agree with you. I’ve never understood why planners aren’t bundled. Just scribble is releasing a new planner this year that bundles the months with vertical weeks.
I just ordered the B6 Papertess Designs yearly planner! :) I‘m currently using a Hobonichi Weeks mega and I really dislike the flipping back and forth between the weekly spread and the notes at the back (I do long form journaling, memory keeping at the back) I‘m not really sure if I would be able to use the 7 pages per week on the Papertess, but I think I would just use the empty pages for commonplacing - since I currently have a separate notebook for that at the moment. Like you, I also wish that the months were bundled together on the front of the planner though. But open to trying it next year.
i'm going with the aura estelle a5 complete weekly! it has vertical weeks with a 2 page spread between each week (instead of 7 like papertess) i love that the months are with the weeks - it's the norm here in the US and how i've always used planners up until getting into hobonichi in 2022 - i'm so glad more brands are doing this as well, especially if daily pages are involved - i hate having to flip back and forth!!
@@planning_plainI have AE B6 daily for 2024. I love it. I have the Weeks as well. I like the cover. It’s “bendy” but still firm. I also have her companions in B6, Weeks and A6. I’m using them for wellness, journaling and commonplace. Love LOVE them. ❤❤
@@planning_plain i have! my last one i doubled in size and used a bunch of pictures in, has held up great. the cover is similar to a stalogy cover, flexible but not floppy. their new 2025 planners will have 52gsm instead of 68gsm previously so you'll probably be able to pack even more in them without worrying the binding!
I LOVE my Wonderland222 B6 planner! Just for fun, I thought I would try the Sterling Ink B6 for next year for comparison. Trying to de-clutter my home office it has made me realize how many planners I have unused so now considering an undated Aura Estelle or one of my Notebook Therapy journals for a bujo. Maybe after I finish these I can buy something new--probably in 2028! oh my!
Great video! It was really fun to hear your thoughts and learn about some brands I’d not come across before. I like having the monthly grids all together. I use them for longer term planning and often am considering more than one month at a time. I also like the horizontal layout of the Weeks. So my plan is to get a Weeks for 2025. It has worked well for me for several years now as my main planner. For a moment I considered the Take A Note B6, with the week on two pages, but I like having lots of notes pages. But we’ll see…I often end up with more than one planner in a year 🫣
I loved Weeks Mega when I didn't have a lot of things to track and had mostly work-related planning that I did digitally. And of course, Hobonichi Weeks covers are always gorgeous. When you buy more than one planner, do you use both of them or do you switch? Because for me it is impossible, I just feel overwhelmed and kind of guilty for all the empty pages haha
@@planning_plain I use them simultaneously for different areas of life. I like to compartmentalise, I guess. I don’t worry too much about empty pages. Although having said that, I haven’t used my Hobonichi cousin so much this year so I probably won’t get one for 2025.
I’m going through the same thing. So many choices. When you mentioned bundled planners I was going to suggest Plans by Just Scribble and then you mentioned it. I pre-ordered that one and I’m going to get an A5 sterling ink Once they arrive I’ll decide which to use for work and which for my personal planning. Love your videos.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts; I will bookmark this for future reference. This year, I’ve been journaling in a Sterling Ink B6 company (ran out of pages and began a supplemental notebook for daily journaling, and Sweet Freckled Designs weeks size for planning. Next year, to try new sizes and use pre-dated dailies, I plan to journal in a Sterling Ink N1/TN Horizontal Full, and plan in a Midori Hibino (2-page daily). I’m trying to remain committed. I may have to leave YT 🫣
Thanks for sharing! I struggle to stay committed to one planner format, as you can see😂 I do book journaling, but regular personal journaling somehow prefer to do digitally (it is easier to search for things, when I am doing monthly/yearly reflection)
I am trying to really stay strong this year. I have looked at all the planner companies you have talked about. I have decided this year to do the Sterling Ink N2 H Compact for my everyday, personal, small journaling. And a Sterling Ink B5 Vertical for Work. I am not able to do both in one planner. And to solve my desire to change up things, I have my personal rings for home reference. I do like the just scribble planners and thought hard about whether or not to go that direction. But realized I like the "weeks" size too much.
I know the feeling😂 I like weeks size, too, but I know I won’t use it. As for the work planning, recently I have been doing everything digitally, because there is a need to quickly share notes with the team. I am not sure about my work next year though😂
Have you seen Twines & Paper‘s Hybrid planner? It has both a horizontal and vertical layout in one, bundled months and weeks, and 150 notes pages at the back. She is based in Germany so good for EU peeps. I keep trying to get a vertical layout to work for me, so I am using it as my last ditch attempt this year, because even if I don‘t make good use of the vertical pages, it also has the horizontal that I will definitely use, so I won‘t feel like I am wasting the planner completely!
Ooohhh I’ll check them out…Paper Tess has everything bundled and horizontal of which I end creating and vertical right next to it…so what you suggest could be a great option for 2026 🤗. Thank you!
I was always a Hobonichi girl after I got tired of making my own bujo spreads and now I’m trying a Sterling ink because I love B6. I did try wonderland222 last year because it was available from some EU retailers, and it was ok but my cover split on me in 2 months which is not ok. I tried papertess for a month but horizontal planning does not work with my brain :(
I think I will be purchasing that B5 PTD Manager's One. I teach in higher ed and would like to see what it would be like to expand to that strictly for class stuff and admin stuff. I have may general work tasks right now in the AE B6 daily and I use an AE B6 companion to put detailed coursework stuff in but if I had the room I could put all that in one for the Spring '25 semester. I have a few hours to still think since she launches in the morning.
Manager's Notebook looks quite promising, indeed. I used to be a teacher, and it really looks like a good planner to keep track of classroom/admin things.

Thank you for shouting out some under-loved brands!! adding to my list to check out!!
Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed the video😊
I used an A5 Take a Note this year. I really liked the 68 gsm tomoe river paper! I used Hobonichi Weeks for years prior
I so agree with you. I’ve never understood why planners aren’t bundled. Just scribble is releasing a new planner this year that bundles the months with vertical weeks.
Yes, it never seemed logical to me, but a lot of people find it useful, I guess

You can make a slit around the holes, and the inserts work like disk bound books.
