    Heinlein who wrote starship troopers the book was a science fiction author who served in the U.S. Navy in WW2. When watching the troops fighting the bugs, substitute Japanese Kamikaze charging army troops pouring at the U.S. Marines on IWo Jima like army ants and you have what Heinlien had experienced!

    It's funny how you girls found Dizzy acted like a stalker and tried too hard to get with Rico while pretty much all male fans of the movie all find Dizzy super attractive and want her to be with Rico. We tend to love women who makes the effort to take the initiative to build a relationship and reciprocate affection instead of just being passive. Dizzy is the kind of woman who will always have your back in difficult times while being able to handle herself. Carmen, however, is aloof and is emotionally stunted and has a hard time showing affection.

    successful movies often have cheap sequels that are worth watching. so is this one. two of the significant differences with heinlein's novel: 1 - there the soldiers use armored flying suits like iron man, only REALLY HEAVILY ARMED! 2 - there bugs also have technologically advanced civilization, and some of their weapons often turn armored suits into armored coffins. Flores, for example, who is a man in the novel, dies in the first chapter!

    Part of the reason they cast 20 year olds to play teens is child labor laws. With teens, you can only film for a certain number of hours a day and you need teachers on set. That can disrupt production which costs money.

    • @totallywhatever
      @totallywhatever  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Makes sense!

    • @DreamingVoid
      @DreamingVoid 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +18

      Generally true, but not here. Here, the director intentionally cast older people to parody things like 90210 and Melrose Place, popular TV shows at the time. The beginning is a young-adult drama and the end is a war movie. It also makes it funnier when they get reinforcements later, who actually are younger.
      Only the primary script had to be satire. Pretty much everything else, from casting to the inserts and even the special effects, were allowed to go into parody. I think that's what gives this movie its charm.

    I don't know if you have gotten these comments on this video yet, but I expect that there will be some of them at some point. A lot of folks hate on this movie, because it is so different from the book, completely missing the point that this is a satire on it.
    This is one of my favorite films because it has so many layers. It can be viewed as 90210 with guns and bugs, or as a gory Sunday popcorn film, or as satire (the intended tone).

    The answer to your question, that was Dina Meyer who played Diz. Denise Richards played Carmen. Jeez, Carmen was Super-TOUGH!! She took some serious lickings and kept on ticking like nothing ever happened.
    This movie was from the book which was a satire. In the book, the insect aliens carried their weapons. In the movie, they had their own built-in weaponry. The earth is a totalitarian dictatorship.
    The answer to your other question, why didn't they just bomb them from the air in the first place. It was because the sky marshall messed up spectacularly, made a huge error in judgment, hence why he resigned and that new sky marshall took command.
    When the asteroid wiped out Buenos Aires, it makes you wonder why there weren't massive shockwaves felt all over the world.
    This movie shows you how brutal insects can be.

    The problem (amongst many) with a mobile infantry war is that the number of ground soldiers is like thousands to one. So that swarm you see is equal to 5 to 6 human soldiers. You just cant win with those odds. Especially when the bug soldier is so ridiculously hard to kill. The bugs holes go down for miles, so no surface nuke is going to do a lot of real damage to the hive. It would have been better to just deploy either manned or unmanned satellites with so that if there is any crazy activity they will just drop a nuke to scare them back down.

    ahh yes. Starship Troopers. A movie about what happens when you try to Zerg rush the actual Zerg. The funny thing about this movie is it's missing the very thing that made the book famous. This was one of the first instances in science fiction where the infantry were described as wearing power armor. It made the combat in the books a little less lopsided.
