The West Coast trail is approx 76 kms per Parks Canada and runs between Gordon River trailhead (Port Renfrew) and (Pachena Bay) Bamfield. Usually done over 7 days and 6 nites. Actual distance about 85 kms after a lot of ladders and beach trekking. This backpacking trip is truly EPIC. Love your site. Family is everything!,

It is Super Bowl Sunday and I am watching your video rather than the game! I have a 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD off road that I got in Nov. 2019. Our kids have all graduated high school and I am looking to have some similar adventures in the future, but for now living vicariously through folks like you, Clay & Co. and many others on You Tube. It’s about the journey, not the destination, so continue to enjoy the ride!!

Loved that drone shot of the mist hanging over the trees in that valley . Seeing your map reminded me of are sea kayaking trip up there . That hole area of Canada 🇨🇦 is so full of beautiful scenery you could spend a lifetime exploring the beautiful areas up there . Cheers and thanks for taking us along . Seems strange not to see the kids , but sounds like they are having a great time . Thanks again from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.

When I get able to Overland again it would be so nice to share it with my Wife. She does not like Overlanding. Your whole family is so blessed with the passions for travel and adventure. Don't worry about video quality, just spend quality time with each other. Heck turn the cameras off for a couple weeks and enjoy some peace. We all need a rest occasionally. I learnt that the hard way.

Back in the 70's I had an Irish Setter and I would let him run ahead of me on trail. Friends would tell me I was mean to make him run that way. They just didn't understand that he loved it. I am so glad to see someone else doing this. Thanks for the video.

    • @EFRT
      @EFRT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. The meanest thing we could ever do to Lando would be to leave him in the Jeep. He lives to run. Your dog sounds just like him. The minute he hears the jeep start he is raring to go. 😄

You all were cracking the wife and I up. We are are on the way to being empty nesters ourselves with two of our kids in adulthood now and our youngest not far behind. Reliving that transition of them being young and not much help, to growing older and being lots of help, to becoming adults and transitioning back to it just being two of us doing it all again. Anyway good to see you all enjoying each other That is how we are too. We love hanging out with just “us”.

just a couple of facts about Vancouver Island (from a local who grew up here)
19:36 *The West Coast trail* DOES NOT, run the length of the island. There was a plan at one time to build a trail that goes from Victoria to Cape Scott, but like more things on the Island, that never materialized. Just like every few years some company says they're going to revive the E&N railway.. The Famous trail is the West Coast Trail, and the less famous trail is the Cape Scott Trail
"The West Coast Trail was originally carved through the forest in 1890 as a telegraph route connecting Cape Beale , which was the first lighthouse on Vancouver Island , to Victoria . Shortly after the Pachena lighthouse was built in 1906 the telegraph line was cleared and turned into a life-saving trail for the victims of shipwrecks that foundered in this area. Over 70 ships have sunk, and countless souls have lost their lives in this area of the coast known as the Graveyard of the Pacific .
The west coast trail is Vancouver Island's most famous hike, and is consistently rated as one of the top 10 hikes in North America . The West Coast Trail Unit was formerly established as a component of the Pacific Rim National Park in 1993. This 25,640 hectare strip of the Pacific Rim encompasses the section of coast southeast of Barkley Sound, between the villages of Bamfield and Port Renfrew. The challenging 77km trail winds its way along the shoreline from Bamfield to Port Renfrew and usually requires 5-7 days to do." www.millslanding.com/index.php?page=16
17:25 Mosaic *DOES NOT* have a replant program. HUGE areas of logged areas on Vancouver Island, that have never been replanted. WHEN Mosaic (Timberwest Logging group) runs out of land on the Island, they will pack up and move on. When MacMillan Bloedel owned the logging rights to Vancouver Island, from the 60's and early 00's they would replant the Island. Mosaic doesn't care. They put of hundreds of gates to keep us (wheelers out) so they can do what ever they please. According to the companies’ websites, TimberWest has 325,400 hectares of private forest land on Vancouver Island and Island Timberlands has 254,000; together, they control about one-fifth of the Island’s total area., the rest of "crown" land (owned by the Government / Queen). But as long as the Government gets their share, they dont give a s**t as to what happens on Vancouver Island.

Can you hear that........oh thats just wolves holleren....No i think its those folks in the jeep that passed by earlier. Yes it is hard to make meals for two OR ONE, just seems like too much work sometimes. I usually make enough for two to 4 days then just need to reheat for dinner the next 3 nights. You sure were luck with the drone, im amazed it righted itself. I hit a try flying sideways with my new mavic 2 and when i finally found it the gimbel assembly was pulled right out. I lost one of the rubber attachment straps so ordered one online, but when reassembled it kept saying gimbel error even though it moved just fine on startup. Back to DJI it went. $120.repair so had to bight the bullet and use my care refresh. CHEERS Steve h.

Peter and Carol, have you thought about having a hard shell or clam shell RTT installed; one that you can access from within the Jeep's interior? As I watched Carol climb the Jeep exterior to initiate the deployment process I prayed she wouldn't incur a misstep and injure herself. I don't know if you watch Venture4WD with Chris Shontz but his RTT is accessible from within his Jeep, "Orangie." Anyway, what an awesome adventure. That logging truck brought back some amazing memories. I enjoyed my one year tour on an Oregon mountaintop in 1969. From our house on the hill we had access to tons of incredible trails including logging roads that led to lakes and remote streams and trout begged for our lures. Bear and deer used to walk in our yards.

When your "kids" were walking towards the terminal, it felt as though it were my three walking away. My three, daughter and twin sons, flew from California to Virginia to surprise me for my 60th birthday (13 years ago). I was so proud of them. Anyway, as I watched yours walk away I started to tear up with you. They will become seasoned veterans. Your camera skills will improve dramatically as you go along. My one recommendation is for you to acquire remote mics as your soft voices get drowned out by the ambient noise. Our prayers go out to you and the kids for safety in your journeys.

It’s a tough transition when the kids go off, but it’s great time to get to know each other again. You also appreciate it more when the kids come back for a time.

Great first video (well sort of). I really enjoyed watching you relearn to camp on your own. I bet the kids are getting a good chuckle out of this video. Travel safe.

The content does not disappoint! The sound is quite low in volume which is surprising if there is an advert :)

There are big trees at Carmanah, and there were big trees at Clayquot too. There are some more accessible trees between Port Renfrew and Sooke on the Jaun De Fuca marine trail, Lonely Doug and Avatar forest. All of which will be in BRMB. The Cowichan area is my sons area with Mosaic Forest, so some giant tree areas are not known.
If you're ever over on the east coast of the island again I can show you the largest arbutus, trees on private lands are listed on BC Tree Registry and have numbered tags.

    Hello
You are a very fantastic family , I enjoy watching your vlogs, this one is more different without kids but the live is like this...I think your kids must be happy to having the parents like you .In French language :
Je suis très content de voir vos vidéos, cette fois ci est différent sans les enfants mais la vie est comme ça, malheureusement on ne peut pas vivre avec ses parents toute la vie .Vos enfants doivent être fiers d' avoir des parents comme vous .
    Bonne continuation.

You'll need to get a 12 volt crock pot or roaster oven, put something on around lunch time and you will have something to eat for supper. It will save big time on gas. Truck driver use them all the time.

You guys need to upgrade your tents. Something one person can set up and nock down. Hard top shell perhaps. Easy set up, stays dry.
