We LOVE all your videos, but Peter singing How Great Thou Art around the campfire might be our favourite. Very moving. Blessings to you and your family. P.S. You’ve inspired us to try over landing so hopefully “we’ll see you down the road”!

LOTS OF THANK YOU BACK to you Carol and Pete! I don’t post a lot BUT I’ve been watching ALL your videos since August last year. We’re 56 and 59 year olds and parents to 4 boys who are now moved out. The last 3 videos brought tears!!! Your “kids” will always be your “babies” no matter how old they get. It’s a lot of work to put out such amazing videos (especially now you’re doing the work 😊) for us viewers! I am grateful ♥️. Take good care and enjoy face time/phone calls with the kids each time. Hugs to your family and of course, to my beloved Lando 😘...can’t wait for the next video!!

Yes, I carry walking sticks. You never know what surface they'll be handy for and they don't weigh much. We bought some that convert to cross country ski poles for snow, or sharp points for other surfaces and rubber tips like canes.

These videos are so dear and delightful. Thank you! Love the empty nest edition! My father, the PNW John Muir, made us all hand hewn walking sticks. My 20 year old daughter, who is a leader with SAR, uses it all the time, as did I in my serious hiking and climbing years. Love the guitar!

VERY MUCH ENJOYING these episodes. It is so very much needed for parents to spend time alone together, just being a couple, lovers and best friends. Devoting to each other rather than being the purveyors of our childrens endless wants and needs. You both seem too be glowing the last few episodes. I hope that you got in somewhere to wait out on the cold weather last week, i've done -20C in a tent for a week out winter snow wheeling, couldn't wait to sleep in a nice warm house after that. Fun experiance to do once in a while, but prefer my motorhome to a tent now. Stay safe and CHEERS Steve h.

I have been watching EFRT for about a year now, these last 2 videos are by far my favorite. It's nice to see more of Carol also. Watching u 2 navigate your adventures together is inspirational u are so lucky and fortunate to have each other. Carols cooking gets 5 stars. When u stripe it all down to what life is all about, I just don't think it gets any better then u have it now. Your kids are remarkable but as one of your older subscribers I very much enjoy the perspective that the 2 of u bring the channel. Thanks for hanging out in BC I am so grateful the I live here in paradise.

Whenever you are using the cast iron there are two rules: 1 - no detergent or soap, just clean with hot water and elbow grease and 2 - Dry them over the fire but do not over heat them until the water evaporates and then apply a fine coat of oil with a paper towel, keeping them oiled will prevent rust. Have fun, love the videos.....!

We hike with 5' to 6' wood hiking staffs. I have a bad knee, so it helps when I need it. We find that a long staff can be really helpful in dealing with steep grades, especially downhill. I carve the wooden staffs to decorate them, so I get pleasure from them in multiple ways.

I def prefer hiking with walking sticks. Helps distribute the load off my knees, which aren’t amazing over long distances, especially if I’m carrying a pack. My wife hates walking sticks. Even if it could help her keep from stumbling, she refuses.
What an amazing scene. We spent a week in the redwoods in Oregon and Northern California and it’s SO amazing.

Hiking poles = Yes, absolutely. They help provide proprioception (knowledge of your body's position) with respect to obstacles as you move among them. On speed ascents of local mountains, I find I'm about 10% faster using poles since I can relegate some balance duties to my upper body as well as pushing with my arms. Additionally, they reduce load on your knees while descending and give you a pole to vault over obstacles or steps. Another advantage is that they can be used as an ice axe to help slow or stop you while sliding in snowy/icy slopes. The carbide tips will often grip wet, slimy rocks when your rubber soles will not. The only disadvantage is that you don't work your stabilizing muscles as much when using them.
Good job on the videos; thanks for continuing them while your kids are away and so many of us are homebound.

I will take them along on a hike and use them if the terrain is difficult; a must use if doing a wide river crossing especially if the river flow is fast. While rock hopping across a stream they will help to maintain my balance. In desert hikes they come in handy when a venomous snake crosses my path or blocks my passage and there's no other path alternative. Quite often I will take a wooden staff I fashioned from a fallen tree branch; makes a great defensive weapon especially securing a fixed blade on the end. I had to do that just once to ward off a pissed off badger. Velcro straps come in handy for fashioning a hiking staff as a spear.

In urban places, I walked with an umbrella. Then I realized that I mostly used it as a walking stick. In the military, we couldn’t use them; but now I always pack at least one tall wooden walking stick, and usually use it on a walk or a hike. When the path is rocky and may include bouldering, stick stays at camp.

If only those trees could talk. Wow! Amazing footage. Seeing a big "ole tree is liking looking at a church for me. I living, growing time capsule. Loved that river bed near your camp site. Spectacular clear water. Lando loved it all too! I saw an electronic collar on him. We use when on our collie and it works wonders. Is it an electronic collar, or a GPS unit?

Yes, those trees are amazing and you’re right standing under those ancient trees is like being in a huge cathedral. Yes we use the Garmin sport collar with Lando. If he gets too far ahead or out of sight we just make the beep beep noise a few times and he comes right back. 🐾 👍🏻

🤣"Another episode of...woo!" ..."let's try that again" Sooooo glad you guys put that in. It's pretty much how our hikes go, breathlessly panting, squeezing through and crawling. Yes, I use trekking poles, my daughter doesn't. By the way, the REI person told me the poles should at a 90° angle. I know Pete is pretty tall. Anyway, this was a wonderful episode that us to tears. The drone shots and music... and messages of love. 😬I'll stop writing now.

Good morning from Delaware. I started out hiking trails with no experience and not using the hiking sticks. Till I hiked the Maryland challenge from Harpers Ferry in Maryland to the mason Dixon line which is on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland. I must say I do not hike without them lol . Definitely makes your hike much easier. Love the channel And God Bless you and your family great family.

Videos are on point and getting superb at editing :). We love cast iron skillet and found out that best way to keep rust is to clean it using cast iron soap and dry it right away followed by very light cast iron oil. Safe travels and happy Valentine’s Day!

I have tried to use walking sticks but end up throwing them to chase after Jaxon (my toddler). I know it’s only going to get easier from here. I could really feel the love of a mom and wife when you spoke in this video. Just so wonderful and heart warming to experience.

I want to try the sticks. I often hike with 25lbs of camera gear plus daypack stuff and find myself off balance on more difficult trails.

You need to go to Calaveras Big Trees, in California! 1 stump in more than 18 foot across, at one time it was a dance floor!

I do a lot of trail running and hiking and keep my poles in the Jeep just in case I decide to use them. I've only used them 3-4 times since I've owned them and those were all on 20+ mile hikes. I always love the food you all cook while camping! I'm planning to hit the road in June and taking notes.
