  • Changing the impeller on my 2006 Mercruiser 6.2 MX Horizon. This is the standard motor on many mid size cruisers like my 341 Meridian sport bridge.
This raw water pump is difficult to get to sandwiched under the motor and behind the cool fuel module. We can either disconnect all the hoses and pull the entire pump or keep in place and just pull the pump cover to access the impeller. I opted for the latter due to difficulty reaching the pump hoses and drain lines for the air purge system.
I’m using the Quicksilver water pump repair kit amzn.to/39DKc44. Use this link to order and help out the channel!

Funny how you kept saying "not alot of room". The amount of space you have is a wet dream compared to my wakeboard boat vdrive. Anyhow thanks for taking time to make/post.

Yes it’s all relative. Lol. As I get older it gets tighter. Lol

Excellent advice and demonstration. I have exact same engines on my ‘04 Carver.

Great video. I didn’t know the impeller direction can change (at least on some models right). I have always used 2 zip ties to compress the vanes of the impeller to slide it in the pump similar to using a ring compressor when installing a pistons into a cylinder.

I’ve tried that too. I always tried to put in the correct direction but at least this model self corrects.

I watched a video where a guy tapped out the part of the pump with the hose barbs so he could put the small housing bolts in from the front side rather than having to reach under to the back side. I’ve changed hundreds of Bravo style pumps old style and the new style like this one and they are always a pain to do. I’ve got to do a 2006 Meridian 411 with 8.1 in the next few weeks.

Plan B was to tap them out. Using the original setup with new hoses was easy enough and didn’t leak so I’m going that route for port engine next week.

Feel lucky you don't have "V" drives and have to remove exhaust. A total PITA!!!

How long do these impellers last generally. I just gor a bravo 3 and am only familiar with the Alphaand its quirky pump.

3 years is a good changeout schedule. Or 300 hours. Whichever comes first. You then should never have a problem from my experience.

Just curious what are your water psi cruising? Im getting 11 on one engine and 20 on the other at 3700rpm. Thinking i should do the impellers. Temps stay at 160. Same engines and year as you. New to me boat this year. Great video!

Not sure what they read at speed but they are similiar.

if you would have taken the hose off the back housing and pulled it out it would have been a lot easier.
