    How strange to think some plants will possibly only be saved through the houseplant community. I love this one!

      So we're basically conservation specialists? Thanks for that idea, I know what I'm telling my husband the next time a haul turns up😁 I'm doing environmental conservation work for mamma earth & will thank him for financing our bit for the planet🌱 In around 3-6 hours according to the Fed ex tracking number 😆

      Humans. Masters of hypocrisy. No, you aren't saving anything. You are participating actively to the distruction of their habitats, especially if you are a meat consumer, as Bresil is known for cutting forests for soy plantation as fodder plant.
      So let's not make confusion between simply owning interior plants and saving nature. It's far from that.

    While conservation through cultivation is an okay idea at face value, I think we should be reticent in promoting this idea too heavily as it may detract from protecting habitat loss. Ultimately, if there's no habitat left for these plants we're cultivating to return to then what's the point if they can't go back into nature anymore? I just bring this up as a means for discussion because I know from your videos and from reading your book that you understand this point far more than most people (myself included), Summer. It's frustrating because it seems like more and more habitat for these plants is eliminated at alarming rates each year.

    Will you pleeease continue this series untill you have one on all the species you have?
    I know it was meant to be a one year project. But it is just soo cool to have a full index on all your plants, and well explained caretips on a lot of unusual/uncommon houseplants.

    I have recently purchased two of these beauties, approximately the same size as yours. I’d been wanting one for years, so now I’m very happy! I have transferred one into Lechuza pon and I’m curious to see if there’s a difference in how they develop.
    Thanks for your informative clip.

    I have 3 of the Silver Sword in a pot, growing on a PVC pipe covered in Jute rope. I also added a connector on the top part of the PVC pipe before I added the Jute rope, that way I can add more pipes as it grows without having to undo its had work once the pole gets to short. Now they are only juvenile plants, and they are "only" sold as single plants in pots here in Australia. I have only had them for about 2 months, but so far I have had about 5-6 new leaves on each plants so I must be doing something right. They look really nice and lush, and I hope to propagate some more once they get a bit larger to fill out the pot even more. I just can't wait to see it really big and lush and rainforest like, it gets gentle morning sun and bright light during the day but no direct sunlight after about 10 am as the sunlight is extremely strong and hot here in Australia.
    I love your videos, and I have learned so much from yourself and I have asked for your book as a birthday gift from my husband.

    This is probably the easiest plant in my collection. I have it on my windowsill (NW facing window) above a heater. I spray it 1-2 a day and it's super happy. Even during the winter with -10 degrees C outside and the heater being on the growth is amazing. During the last month, it started growing 4 new leaves and what appears to be a flower. The flower bud was green at first but it turned brown now so i don't think the flower will make it.

    did you ever find out if these are different variations or if its just a maturity thing? I currently have a cutting and it has small round leaves. Im assuming its very young. I love the look of those long leaves though and im hoping mine will eventually look like that? Also I love your channel so much and it has made me a plant dad.

    Why did one of my leaves get yellow and fall off? The leaf stem was oozy. I just bought it and I'm already feeling overwhelmed :( I see no bugs and the soil is moist but not extremely, could it be getting too much light?

    Hey Summer Rayne, a lot of people seem to talk about 2 forms of philodendron hastatum, and today I have spent the evening looking - I cant find a second form, or evidence of 2 forms.
    I think the narrow leaf you have is just a semi-adult.
    Its now 3 years on since you posted this video, have you come to any new conclusions? It would be nice to know.
    There is however a philodendron subhastatum - but it is very different from hastatum.
    It would be nice to hear more from you on this subject.

    Mine has a big problem
    New leaves are getting damaged and deformed because they get caught in the sheath of the previous leaf and continue growing out, curling in and snapping themselves. I sometimes can manually spread the sheath and release the new leaf but it doesn't always save it from deforming. I checked the other Hastatums at the store and they were also having the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this or have any explanation/solutions?

    • @matthewmeabon5257
      @matthewmeabon5257 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This (in my experience) is due to a lack of humidity. If the air is too dry, the new leaves tend to "stick". I had a prince of orange doing the same thing and once I moved it into the room in which I've got my humidifier, the issue resolved itself. Hope this helps.

    • @swedishlina
      @swedishlina 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zoelewis7498 I got mine from bunnings as well. Have you changed out the peat moss for a soil mix? Does it get enough light? Mine is next to a west facing window, Ihave vertical blinds and I have them so it gets very bright light and even some sun first thing between 7-9 or 10. Have you fertilised it any now that we are in spring?
