    Super helpful. I sometimes try to propagate too long of stems because I want the length but didn’t realize it stunts the growth of new roots. Makes sense now why I have never had luck with long stems and all more success with cuttings. 😂

      Hi Hannah,
      Yeah that is so true! Harder to propagate if the stem is too long. Like yourself l found out with some out my previous unsuccessful attempts. Thank you for sharing your tip and your support. Happy Philodendron gardening ❤️

    I tried propagating silver sword and painted lady with out any knowledge on how to do it properly turns out I cut off the nodes and it rot 😭 poor plants I was so excited I did it without out proper knowledge. Now I watched your video and followed it been a month and I could see some roots on my Silver sword water propagation 🤗

    Hi, ive been successful with water propagation with my cutting. I transferred them into soil. Im only noticing new growth on My top cutting. They both receive the same amount of light.

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Monk570,
      Top cutting tend to do better then mid cuttings as top cutting already have growth from established node. Mid cuttings have to produce leaves from a node that never had leaves before, it will take a longer time to grow as plant have to put needs more energy to grow. Give it more time and it will grow. Happy Philodendron Gardening ❤️

    I didn't know that if a cutting has too many leaves, it will prioritize the leaves over the roots! Thank you. I have a new cutting that has many leaves, and the roots look brown. The leaves are turning yellow. Do you think I should cut the roots and leave it in water, or should I transfer to a soil mix? Pls help x

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      Yes, the plant will use to much of its energy to try and keep the leaves rather then grow roots. I find 2 leaves gives best results. If the roots are brown check if the roots are rotted. Cut all the rotted roots and maybe even dip it in a powder rooting hormone and place in water. You can even try Sphagnum Moss, often that works even better. If you transfer an unhealthy cutting into soil when it was initially in water it likely to stress out the plant too much. I would avoid soil for now until there are healthy roots on the cutting. Happy Philodendron Propagating ❤️

      The plant is called a Tahitian Bridal Veil. It's a type of tradescantia. Happy Gardening ❤️

    Hmmm...my silver sword is just one single stalk. I might have to chop a few cuttings and plant them back in with the bigger one. If I chop from the top though, what will happen? Will it continue to grow from that same single stalk, or will it cause it to branch off? It's too tall right now and I'm having trouble keeping a stable moss pole. Thanks!

      @PlantNationMinh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brandi
      Great Question! It's more like to branch from a node if you prune it. Happy Philodendron Gardening ❤

      Mix some coconut water with regular water and water it with that. It is an endosperm, and it will make the division of leaves intensify. Not even kidding. Study that if you want, it is nature's own fertilizer, if you will. Not only is it good for people, but plants love it!
      Oh and make sure it has proper lighting, that might help alleviate the leggy look. I am going through the same thing with mine, so I put him in the widow a lot, but I am telling you this coconut h20 + reg h20 is what made the explosion of leaves I am dealing with now, I got two new growths on the same area of the leaf popping out. Now I got 9 - 2 of that's coming in as the baby leaves, and one is already unrolling. In one day, the next 9th baby leaf popped up. This is in the dead of winter, no less.
      I want to propagate but I am too chicken. If I get another one, I might be brave enough to do it. I am only recently learning to propagate but with coconut water and soil. I never do well with the water props. Oh well. Happy plant-ing.

    Do I have to plant multiple propagated stems to get a full plant? I put 1 in a pot and it’s growing well, but that 1 stem keeps getting growth, but doesn’t bush out.

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      This is a climbing type of philodendron rather then clumping type. If you like a bushier and fuller look then need to plant multiple stems. Happy Philodendron Gardening ❤️

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi,
      Great question! You can leave it out for 2 hours to let the ends dry slightly to help prevent the ends rotting or dip the ends in powdery rooting hormone. For myself l haven't found an issue with rotting as long as l replace the water weekly and make sure none of the leaves are in the water. Happy Philodendron propagating! ❤️

    I'm not sure if I've done something wrong... I tried to propogate a cutting from my plant, but the stems almost disintegrated in the water😢 They were only there for about two days, but they just went brown and limp and soggy. Do you know what could have gone wrong?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Calliope
      Sorry to hear about your cutting. Sounds like the ends rooted in the water. Make sure the clipers are clean, it's a nice sharp cut and maybe dip the ends of the cutting in powdery rooting hormone to help the ends callous over a little bit . See if you can cut the brown amd limp ends and start again. Hope that helps ❤

    • @alinajustme11
      @alinajustme11 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Always make sure you to allow the cut end to dry/callus before putting in water
      for some reason not many people say this but i find (from personal experience) it's one of the most crucial things to prevent rot. I never propagating anything no matter the medium soil,water,perlite before letting my cuttings wound to dry
      EDIT : If you want to prevent loss of moisture from your cutting you can put the cutting in a wet wet plastic bag and let the cut end outside of the plastic bag to dry

    • @treelicker
      @treelicker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alinajustme11 Yes, I researched further on my own before I tried another cutting and this is what I did! You're right, it worked and my plant didn't rot this time. Thank you!

    Hello can I keep my silver sword in water like forever?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Annie
      Great Question! Eventually the plant will still need nutrients to sustain itself. You can give it a very small amount of fertiliser to extend its stay in water. Usually after 8 month if its not in soil the new leaf might be small and deformed from lack of nutrients.❤

    • @bartseller8601
      @bartseller8601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PlantNationMinh what kind of nutrients would you recommend for this particular species ?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bartseller8601Hi Bart l would give it 1/5 strength of liquid fertilizer every 3 month as long as the plant is growing leaves in water otherwise 1/4 strength of liquid fertilizer once a month if its in soil. My soil tends to have some slow release fertilizer in it. ❤

    • @bartseller8601
      @bartseller8601 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PlantNationMinh great! Thank you so much! Another question if I may, I have one that's very leggy and there are no leaves except towards the top part and I want a section this off into different cuttings. What would I do with the small areas that are sectioned off with no leaves?

    • @PlantNationMinh
      @PlantNationMinh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bartseller8601 Hi Bart you could try and grow it a new plant from the stem as long as each stem has a node. This type of propagation will take longer and l find not as successful as if there was already a leaf there...no harm on trying, so give it a go. I would use sphagnum moss, instead of water for this situation. ❤
