    I’m going to check out Bespoke. If the weld holds, it’s a good weld. Every time I watch your channel and you are working on the homestead it reminds me of my younger days on my homestead. I’m 65 now but homesteading never gets old. Wished I lived close to you to volunteer some time helping you. Love the channel

    Ammo boxes work really well for weatherproof water boxes. A 50 caliber or 40 mm can would probably be a great size.

    Friend of mine put a beeper on his bridge to tell when someone has pulled in. Drove them nuts at night. I put a camera up and found the deer loved the bridge. This was in my 35mm film trail cam days.

    Cap’n that trowel knife thingy looks handy! I’m gonna go take a look right now. And, that wicked, limbing, bone breaking machete awakens testosterone that I thought was asleep years ago. Thanx for the info.
    Nicely thought out and executed mods on the log winch. That stand and remote will change your whole perspective on how handy it is.
    Here’s a helpful hint for ya… gleaned from years of dealing with cutting downed trees. Go ahead and stick that wedge in your back pocket. If you think there’s a chance that the log will flex or roll and pinch your saw… pound it into the kerf BEFORE you cut through the log.
    I figured this out after having to lift a log, with my bucket loader, to remove my saw with a bent bar. My neighbor and I had cut wood together for over 30 years… once I showed him how well it worked he adopted it as a practice too!
    I’m really impressed with the progress you’ve made. Keep humping… you’re gettin’ there!

    The faster you mount boxes on those plates of your winch the more your shins will thank you. Someone already suggested military ammo cans and I couldn’t agree more. They are fairly inexpensive, readily available and they are waterproof as long as the seals on the lids are intact. Great video Mike.

    Mike, if its the last thing I do, I am old by the way, I want you to learn how to do a farmers eye. Take a piece of cable and on the end where its cut off you will be looking down at seven different strands of cable. Each one of the strands is its own variation of the whole piece of cable that you are holding. Count to three and unwrap them as one whole piece still wound in its original wrap design. Now you have three on one side and four on the other. Unwrap the cable say about a foot to sixteen inches.... you can just guess as its not crucial to this. Make like you are going to tie a knot in the line and see it pull back down into its original one single strand, if its not doing that then your backwards on the knot attempt. Lets say it was right first time off. Take one of the strands and keep winding it back until you run out of line and then do the same with the other. What your left with is a nice "eye" on that end of cable. You can hook it over the tow ball on your hitch or shackle it to another piece of cable. Now done nicely it won't have ends sticking out and will spool back onto the winch nice and even. You can help it by pushing the two together and getting a head start on a "tight eye" and neve have to tie knots in cable again. If you do it to have this eye with a tail on purpose as those two ends can be wound back together to leave a tail on purpose, you can use those U-clamps to make it so it can't slip just as well but the chinese designed it so it would only get tighter as you pull on it anyway. Okay your out in the brush and want to make some short chokers for logs out of cable that I am sure you can see how putting the eye of a cable around a log and then thread the loose end through the eye that it will sinch on the log you wish to pull. All farmers eyes and no extra pieces to buy. Well a shackle to hook it to the pull line so that you have more than just one piece being pulled. I am going to break the rule here and try to teach you one more so it will tie together and even be more "GOODER" .... your in the woods and you have plenty of cable but its all in one piece and can't make a quick choker. Well yes you can because the axe you carry has a sharp blade and it still will if you do this part right. Blade pointed at you, lay the cable across it and looking down on it see that the blade and the cable are in alignment with each other... pinch the line tight against that blade and hit the cable going across the blade with a soft hammer. One made from lead or copper will hit the blade and the blade will be sharp but the piece you hit it with will have a cut in it. Anyway that will cut straight away quick through the cable, leave you with a axe you can shave with if you could before, and the cable will be in two pieces. Mike, I was a logger mechanic for over fifty years and its the truth, all of what I said is true. Don't make huge eyes in cable but do make them big enough to work with. Now promise me that you will try it

    • @morgansword
      @morgansword 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@criticalevent Absolutely and its so easy with the small cable that you use. I wouldn't make as large a eye as he did in the video (which I subscribed to) because just that eye alone will hold an enormous amount of weight without slipping.

Would your wife come looking for you after a certain amount of time when you're using things like your saw? Do you have a walkie-talkie with you?
