The bumper is to try to justify the cost. Traxxas is a love/hate company for me. They make cool and fairly robust products but also fairly over prices with today's options. Also, thanks for providing us all with the oversights of Traxxas before we waste our time.
I think the price has gone up, but a lot of that has to do with inflation. People complain about traxxas is not using more metal on their RC’s. I think they got it right with utilizing the nylon plastic. Hopefully this content does help you. I enjoy the interaction. Have an awesome day.😊
My Sledge takes so much abuse because it can flex so much and not break. Aluminum will bend or snap unlike their polymer that flexes and goes back to shape over and over without breaking🤷

I had the same issue with mounting on the aluminum chassis brace. I used 2 shock bushings and 2 20mm screws
