totally agree, price is ridiculous especially in the UK at £1949 for 61 key on pre-order, may as well buy the Kronos if you are going to be spending up around this money. I honestly thought when watching the first Woody unbox demo video that this would be the 1st workstation I finally buy and Korg had become competitive with Yamaha, but not a chance, back to the MODX I think.
Thank you Woody. It looked like you thouroughly enjoyed this and got really inspired. Nice! Could you please also demo the orchestral sounds? I am curious to see how they compare to those on the Yamaha MODX.
Hey, Korg. Thank Woody for helping you sell these 😁. (Thanks, Woody) Well, the videos help sell boards, but the gear itself has to seal the deal, and this one did. I just got one of these this week, as an upgrade for the Juno DS I picked up 4 years ago. This has the most comfortable 61 key keybed I have played for under 2500 USD. I guess if I had better technique that would not matter as much, but it does. My hands hurt after about 15 minutes on the Juno DS, but not on my cheapie Casio 61 key arranger or the Nautilus (the Casio being useful only as a USB controller) I actually like the pared down (not a Kronos , waaaaah, some whine) panel layout. I can find my way around easily, at least for selecting patches and making velocity and filter adjustments. Contrast with MODX, which is overwhelming. I once tried one in the store which someone had put into a “sequence playback mode” which I could not for the life of me escape, despite working as a computer programmer for decades. I don’t want to read another manual for an hour after work, I want to unwind. The labels on the panel above the jacks on the back is a very nice touch, as well, as opposed to squinting at tiny molded lettering on a back panel. I like that I can plug in a USB controller, such as my Nanokey (X Y pad!) or Casio CGP digital piano without a computer in the middle. No more dragging out the iPhone as a USB MIDI hub. Obviously, the sounds shown on these videos tease interest as well.

I was so thrilled when I first became aware of the existence of the Nautilus( as I had always dreamed of a cheaper version of the Kronos I could never afford.) When it became available for preorder, I ordered one....but the arrival dates got pushed back so many times, I became fed up & canceled my preorder and as it turned out, it was the best decision. Though I was hungry for the Nautilus's display screen & sounds( after having so many disappointments with the Krome)...well, over time....I began to realize how cheap & inadequate the physical controls of the Nautilus really were & are(along with a price point that really didn't make much sense, due to how scaled down it is,in some areas.) I just could not justify making my finances difficult with bearing the burden of $183 per month for a year, just for a 61 key that had less knobs & buttons than a Casio keyboard. Then a few days ago...the new Roland Fantom-0 series came about and it is twice the keyboard workstation that the Nautilus is(in many respects.) Even more amazing, is that the 61-key model is $700 less!! The new Fantom is so extraordinary for the money, that I have read numerous complaints from flagship Fantom users that felt that they wasted an extra $2,000(when they could have had pretty much the same thing for $2,000 less.) I'm sure it's inevitable that you will get your hands on one fairly soon and I am confident that you'll agree...that the Fantom is the most value-priced keyboard workstation ever created. I have one of preorder & I must say, I have NEVER been this excited about a hardware workstation before!
great points, I hope to try one myself of course. yes, it is crammed with nice features and those epic roland sounds. my only concern is the touchscreen which looks small and cramped in the demos, and the build quailty and keys (both of which are exceptional on big Fantom)
@@WoodyPianoShack Yes....the Roland Fantom-0's screen is 5.5"...whereas the flagship model is 7". However though, given the flagship's enormous price-tag, I think the big Fantom's display size is more of a disappointment( for that price range, Roland should have included a video output port like they do with their flagship arrangers.) Honestly for the Fantom-0's very modest price-tag, you are getting access to just about every flagship sound source(minus the V-Piano and certain N-Zyme sound libraries)...if my memory serves. Keep in mind as well, that this new Fantom series is the successor to the old FA-series(which had major disappointments on it) and the Fantom-0 is the same price as the former FA! My old Korg M3's display was an inch smaller than the Fantom(along with a lot of menu-diving)...but it did not stop me from enjoying it.) As for the key-bed, I am a bit concerned about it....but then, I don't imagine that the Nautilus is much better(if at all) and the Nautilus is more money.
In many regards FA is a vastly superior board to the Fantom-0. Certainly the latter has modern innovation but everything from SN, to Sequencing and wider sound palette hits home on the FA. Zencore is crippled immensely by the loss of the additional 2 BMC. Nobody is going to claim the full Fantom is a waste, that's hyperbolic nonsense from people who shouldn't be buying instruments in this range if they are that ignorant. Polyphony problems hamper the 0 considerably (if you have any clue what you're doing). Most of my useful links are Japanese but if you want a 'western' review of similar go and listen to what Darrick Keels has to say about the issues the boards have. The main positive of the Korgs is that they do not suffer in this area. If you've got an FA keep it. They are the most popular gigging board in Japan by a massive margin. Fantom-0 doesn't even really sell to be quite honest.
Nautilus has fully functional Polysix synth, FM synth (allow to load DX7 patches), MS-20 synth, additional Analog synth engine aaand Digital synth engine inside alongsie other stuff not mentioned.
Great demo¡¡¡¡¡ Nice playing¡¡¡¡ korg did a great job once again¡¡ I have the korg kronos and I wont'n buy any other workstation ( I guess). They have already sold me the prologue 8 and the pa 700. 😋
Kronos is about a 3 minute boot up. I understand the Nautilus is the same OS. I've heard about hacks you can perform on the Kronos but it doesnt speed up the load time. People state that the Kronos runs on a Linux based OS.
@@DrKeyz777 that is very odd,the Yamaha montage or the fairly new Roland phantom which are similar workstations don’t take that long, wonder why korg doesn’t address this problem?,I know they should be able to fix this.
I have a big birthday coming up soon, a one with a zero at the end, and I have about this much to spend on myself. I was going to get a new iMac, but I am very tempted to just upgrade my PC and get one of these. Oh boy, choices.
It's a workstation. So it's complex if all you want is sounds. It's meant as a more standalone unit. I personally like hardware and hardware interfaces. But when something is this deep you have to invest the time in learning it.
congrats in advance! you'll be wanting to upgrade that mac again after a few years. the workstation you might want to keep around for longer so more of a memoire?
Hi Woody. Hope you're doing well. The Nautilus sounds good(except for the un-natural pianos, as usual for Korg). Over all, the synth sounds good, but the ridiculous number of menus make this more of a chore than a pleasure for me to actually make any music on it. I'll just stick with a good hardware sequencer, and add modules as needed. Thanks for sharing with us, and take care friend.
As a MODX owner I must say I was really tempted to sell and get this...but I think on paper these two are directly on par with each other, and the MODX for me is a bit more user intuitive
Sell the modx to me, I buy the modx, if it's 61 key I'll offer you 900 dollars for it right now I'll give it to you. Let me know and we settle business.
@@truthmanifestingtruth what? Lol the MODX is better in my opinion thats why I’m keeping it: if you’re offering me a Kronos, obviously I’d ditch my MODX for it, but I’d rather have a Yamaha flagship than anything else right now to be honest. Yamaha’s bread and butter sounds are on par in hifi-ness as Korg and their effects and motion sequencer are too good to get rid of
i also read no, unless they can be converted, which might be something the library developers can do, or hopefully even Korg can developer a converter.
Right around 5:12 the drums go out of sync with the patterns - I had this same problem with the Korg Krome AND with the Korg Karma. I was really hoping they fixed the out of tempo sync problem that seems to happen in certain programs and combis.
some nifty playing, thank you: in the Korg official video manuals that they just released, the voice instructions are 10 times louder than the music being played, and that is a problem.
@@WoodyPianoShack you did fine, maybe Korg should hire YOU! lol....I have the Kronos2 61key....admittingly, I rarely actually play it's keybed, as I normally trigger it's sounds from my 88 key Motif, which is my master keyboard, mostly due to it's superior sequencer.
@@WoodyPianoShack hey thanks :) - the reference is Ross from Friends and his keyboard,- if you haven't seen it (it was a while ago now) then definitely look it up :D
Does the Nautilus have a SSD drive like the Kronos? I had 2 Kronos', the last one being V2 and even with the fan running, they still get warm and both emit a electronic smell even after a year(I believe it to be the new type of solder electronics are required to use now). I have sinus issues as it is, and it became a problem for me which I couldn't deal with. That being said, the sound and palette of instruments to choose from is simply wonderful, as well as inspiring. It's nice Korg has repackaged the Kronos to make it available at a lower price range to reach a wider musician base. I've moved on to a Yamaha Montage 6(White Anniversary Edition) and love love love it. But that's my personal choice, and as a former Kronos user I can highly recommend it, and it looks like the Nautilus is a big winner for Korg. It broke my heart to have to sell it, but at least someone else gets to enjoy it. Thanks for all the great info Woody.
Wonderful impressive Loops. What can I do with this Loops? Can I play a complete Song with them? For demonstration a few seconds impressive, ok…. and then? Can anybody tell me plz?
well that's always the challenge, turning the impressive presets into songs, how well you succeed depends of course on talent and creativity but all the tools you need are here at your disposal :)
Beautiful machine. It looks so nice. I even like the name Nautilus. :) p.s I noticed the shoulders going up at 4:28..man you are enjoying yourself. I would be too shoulders and all ;) btw "sack the bass player" it's odd, the bass part seemed to go out of sync for some reason.
ah,that shoulder thing! yeah, those loops take a bit of practise to trigger, probably more of a flashy demo preset for the music store than anything actually useful...?
Question for Woody (or anyone who knows)... Can these newer drum sounds or patches be imported into my Kronos? The drums sound better in the Nautilus. Thanks for your help with this.
@@Mikeg73070 Most likely. I'm not sure about crossing sound sets. I cant cross Triton files with my M3 or either into the Kronos. I heard the M50 and M3 was cross compatible but I never had an M50 so I cant confirm. Maybe the new one and Kronos will be.
@@DrKeyz777 Thanks for the info, I still like my M3 with the RADIAS exb. It’s still a great synthesizer. The touchscreen needs to be replaced but a very underrated keyboard.
I watched this , and your modx side by side comparison. You love the Nautilus for its playablity, this could be your main board… The modx brings some nuances in the game that you seem to have missed elsewere. You would use the modx as a sidekick thats for sure…. But if you only could have one, the Nautilus ?
i really see no clear winner here, either one will get the job done admirably, so probably I'd go with the cheapest and use the money I saved to get a nice guitar or take the missus on holiday.
Question : is thé VOICE fx AND drum patterns can be triggerd by A DAW ? When you only compose on computer ? And thanks for tour great démonstration AND enthousiasm.
What's the boot time like? I had a Kronos but found it way too deep and the boot time sucks, which is a pet hate of mine. Apparently in the Kronos you could upgrade the PC inside to boot faster. I think a synth like this is designed to be your only synth, hence the depth.
I don’t get it why people wining about the boot time,is not like you playing with the boot on off.Turn it in advance before the show and turn it off when done.
Wow really?! I have to look it up again because the PC4 with its flexible controls integrates with software way better than this. PC4 is pretty deep with sound design but are the sounds really dope?
I used to have a Kurzweil PC88 many years ago. Kurzweil is totally out fashioned, a museum, their sounds are sooo modern they could even be stored on floppy disks.
@@floriankurz4169 I'm sorry, but that's just nonsense. That would be like calling Yamaha out fashioned just because you had an S-80 once... The sounds on modern Kurzweil's are perfectly competitive with everything else on the market. A Kurzweil Forte has 16 GB's of sounds, the PC4 has 2 GB (plus 2 GB user memory). Have fun storing that on floppy discs!
What changes from arranger to workstation? I am an amateur, I like playing and composing music and recording my music on the keyboard sequencer. I also like accompaniments already made, or create them. I like the quality of the sounds and accompaniments. The fundamental thing, however, must be the practicality in the use of the sequencer. I've had a PSR S970 in the past and I have to say it had some nice sounds and accompaniments but an unintuitive and difficult to use sequencer. I would like to change and run into the Korg but I am undecided whether to buy a PA1000 or the Nautilus. Could you give me some advice? What could change if I switch from an arranger to a workstation? Thank you.
I think you might find that both onboard sequencers are quite tough to use, at least compared to software sequencer running on your PC. Although there is more power in the Nautilus sequencer than the arranger. However the deciding factor should be if you need or want the auto-accompaniement styles or not, the nautilus does not offer that, only some arpeggios that respond to the chords you play.
@@WoodyPianoShack Thanks, it's very kind of you! Fose it will be better to stay on an arranger, perhaps connected to the PC for the sequencer. In your opinion, based on your experience as a musician, is it better Korg PA1000 or Yamaha PSR SX900? Some tell me Yamaha, others tell me Korg. I have listened to some demonstrations between the two keyboards and sometimes I like Korg more, other times I like Yamaha more, I don't even know what to choose. In the past I owned a Yamaha PSR S970 and the sequencer was quite cumbersome and difficult to use, maybe in the new models they have improved it, I don't know how that of the Korg PA1000 is. What do you think about it? Would you give me some help on how to make the best decision? Thank you

Nautilus has fully functional Polysix synth, FM synth (allow to load DX7 patches), MS-20 synth, additional Analog synth engine aaand Digital synth engine inside alongsie other stuff not mentioned.
what song were you playing at 9:19 ? Those chords Are COLD! Awesome demo man!
cold!? haven't heard that used before! it's some mashup soulive jeff lorber riff!
@@WoodyPianoShack thanks man!
Nice piano version of Zedd - Spectrum there :)
i think you're the first to notice it! or at least to comment about it, that's a relief!
@@WoodyPianoShack Pretty clear what it was. Sounded great! Are Korg sending you an OPSIX to try out??
@@glennharrall8655 not planned, we got that covered with the MOD7 engine!
Great demo¡¡¡¡¡ Nice playing¡¡¡¡ korg did a great job once again¡¡ I have the korg kronos and I wont'n buy any other workstation ( I guess). They have already sold me the prologue 8 and the pa 700. 😋
How long does it take for the Nautilus to boot up? The Kronos takes forever to boot up from what I understand.
Kronos is about a 3 minute boot up. I understand the Nautilus is the same OS. I've heard about hacks you can perform on the Kronos but it doesnt speed up the load time. People state that the Kronos runs on a Linux based OS.
@@DrKeyz777 geez 3 min? That seems awfully long.
@@robertmichalscheck3072 Everyone complains about the same thing, lol.
@@robertmichalscheck3072 The M3 is about that long as well.
Apple is in the middle of changing over to ARM processors from Intel right now, so keep an eye on that.
congrats in advance! you'll be wanting to upgrade that mac again after a few years. the workstation you might want to keep around for longer so more of a memoire?
@@WoodyPianoShack I was having similar thoughts. I have owned an M1EX and a Triton LE in the past, so it is very tempting.
Very nice ... Curious, what's the song title playing at 1:57?
Does Nautilus work with Ableton?
pianos sound superb...how's the synth keys? premium or average...
big step above average, but not quite the best premium? very subjective...
@@WoodyPianoShack How do they feel in comparison to the FSX keybed in Montage? Lighter? More plastic?
Woody bang on korgs new beast🔥🎉
As a MODX owner I must say I was really tempted to sell and get this...but I think on paper these two are directly on par with each other, and the MODX for me is a bit more user intuitive
Tempted so easily?😄 Why? Can not the MODX sing this way as well?
Sell the modx to me, I buy the modx, if it's 61 key I'll offer you 900 dollars for it right now I'll give it to you. Let me know and we settle business.
@@kelvinperez8845 sorry man I got the MODX8 not the 6
@@truthmanifestingtruth what? Lol the MODX is better in my opinion thats why I’m keeping it: if you’re offering me a Kronos, obviously I’d ditch my MODX for it, but I’d rather have a Yamaha flagship than anything else right now to be honest. Yamaha’s bread and butter sounds are on par in hifi-ness as Korg and their effects and motion sequencer are too good to get rid of
Can the Nautilus load libraries designed for the Kronos?
In theory yes, both share basically the same system
No, it can’t . I just asked the Korg Rep. it CAN load KSC Triton files etc but not the KApro library for example
@@WyattLite-n-inn Shame.. The Nautilus is good albeit limited, guess it depends on what you want and your wallet.
i also read no, unless they can be converted, which might be something the library developers can do, or hopefully even Korg can developer a converter.
Might it be possible to load these combi/programs into Kronos as I find it quite time consuming to make your own?
Right around 5:12 the drums go out of sync with the patterns - I had this same problem with the Korg Krome AND with the Korg Karma. I was really hoping they fixed the out of tempo sync problem that seems to happen in certain programs and combis.
some nifty playing, thank you: in the Korg official video manuals that they just released, the voice instructions are 10 times louder than the music being played, and that is a problem.
thank you, i take a lot of effort to balance the voice and synth, how did I do in your opinion?
in my other nautilus video :D
@@WoodyPianoShack you did fine, maybe Korg should hire YOU! lol....I have the Kronos2 61key....admittingly, I rarely actually play it's keybed, as I normally trigger it's sounds from my 88 key Motif, which is my master keyboard, mostly due to it's superior sequencer.
Ross would've loved this.
i don't get the reference, but Dave, love your playing, truly inspiring!
@@WoodyPianoShack hey thanks :) - the reference is Ross from Friends and his keyboard,- if you haven't seen it (it was a while ago now) then definitely look it up :D
Sooo good!
Lovely riffs as usual, how can I get out of my "white note" jamming cell?
um, not sure I understand you?
Super démo merci 👍😎
Musicalement 🗼
Thanks for all the great info Woody.
just love this video. love your playing and enthusiasm! I would love to get the 88key version of this... one day 8) thanks!
Thanks for the demo. Does it have styles like a Genos or other arranger keyboards?
no anthony, although the built-in drums arps can get you similar sounding results, but you don't have same control of the chords and variations.
I would be too shoulders and all ;) btw "sack the bass player" it's odd, the bass part seemed to go out of sync for some reason.
ah,that shoulder thing! yeah, those loops take a bit of practise to trigger, probably more of a flashy demo preset for the music store than anything actually useful...?
remind me, what is this piece 8:25?

Love you channel, hate the stupid auto accompany on this board. Ughhh. . Does it also have a bossa nova switch like my parents old organ?
no dedicated switch mike, but there's surely something like it in the menus :D
nintendo upright piano is also nice too
Happy New Year ! I was wondering where did you learn that piano piece of These dreams from Heart . I'd love to know what keys you played there
hi, i'm sorry, i didn't make a note of exact keys, just improvising off top of my head. wonderful song, the original!
@@WoodyPianoShack yes brilliant , it's great to see someone showing the keyboards off
Woody...what is it like compared to the original Triton?
much more capable in every way, but you may miss the front panel controls of the triton, and its amazing keybed!
Hello Woody do you feel that the Piano sounds from the Nautilus are 'thinner' compared to the yamaha CP or YC please?
no, they have different character, but i cannot say one is better or thinner than the other
Do they do 88 version?
Woody wants to play the High School dance for the rest of his life!! Good luck!!
Question for Woody (or anyone who knows)... Can these newer drum sounds or patches be imported into my Kronos? The drums sound better in the Nautilus. Thanks for your help with this.
Samples
@@DrKeyz777 Yes but if you sample the new drums, would you be also required to sample each drum hit at the various velocities for each sound?
@@Mikeg73070 Most likely. I'm not sure about crossing sound sets. I cant cross Triton files with my M3 or either into the Kronos. I heard the M50 and M3 was cross compatible but I never had an M50 so I cant confirm. Maybe the new one and Kronos will be.
@@DrKeyz777 Thanks for the info, I still like my M3 with the RADIAS exb.
It’s still a great synthesizer. The touchscreen needs to be replaced but a very underrated keyboard.
@@Mikeg73070 Love the M3. I have the expanded version as well but really am dying for the Radias module which seems to have gone up in price recently.
What model of Nautilus do you have, Woody? The 61, 73 or 88?
Metalic
Magnifique
And thanks for tour great démonstration AND enthousiasm.
hey, thanks! yes, many differenent voices and drums can be triggered on different midi channels from DAW, no worries.
Now that Nautilus is the flagship, the decision to not include aftertouch was just ridiculous.
Is it correct that you can upgrade the non AT models?
What's the boot time like? I had a Kronos but found it way too deep and the boot time sucks, which is a pet hate of mine. Apparently in the Kronos you could upgrade the PC inside to boot faster. I think a synth like this is designed to be your only synth, hence the depth.
you turn it on in advance of when you need it, then go do something else, put the kettle on, brew a cuppa, then it is usually ready. :D
I don’t get it why people wining about the boot time,is not like you playing with the boot on off.Turn it in advance before the show and turn it off when done.
Still two simultaneous arps per Combi right? Why cant Korg do more arps like the Yamaha MODX does?
Piano sounds are good, still ik like the piano sounds of my PC4 more.
Wow really?! I have to look it up again because the PC4 with its flexible controls integrates with software way better than this. PC4 is pretty deep with sound design but are the sounds really dope?
@@truthmanifestingtruth It is always personal taste:-)
I think that's Korg's weak spot: pianos and e-pianos, that is.
Yamaha Montage and Roland Fantom 8 for me.
I could truly listen to a whole hour of Korg pianos and strings... sigh 😊
Damn you Woody! Stop making Korg great again! Please.
Can you use an external pedal to simulate aftertouch like the Roland FA-06? I can't find an answer to that question anywhere on the internet!
i'n sure you can, with some configuration, but don't take my word for it.
@@WoodyPianoShack I appreciate the reply!
heya , are there any Pipe organ sounds on this keyboard? I know there are drawbar organs, any 'pipe' organs?
yeah sure, all these workstation have pipe organs, but can't vouch to their realism.
Thank you
Woody, your audio panning is the other way around, left channel to right and right to left. Other than that, excellent work!
thanks for mentioning it, must have got the leads swapped somewhere, but only matters on acoustic piano, which is where I guessed you noticed.
