Can you please do another review on litter mats again? There are a ton more honeycomb mats now that are very similar to the iPrimio that are much cheaper. Pievie, WePet, kaxionage, and LeToo seem to have a lot of reviews for them. Also the PetFusion mat is cheaper than the iPrimio now.

Grat stuff thank you! Wanted to add- if your cat has tender feet, the last mat in the video is fairly rigid. I had it for a while but my old man kitty was trying to jump over the entire mat or go in through the side to avoid walking on it.

I had a similar problem with a different rubber litter mat, that was similar to the one that looks like noodles 😆 my cat just doesn’t seem to like walking on rubber type stuff, so I found a fabric litter mat that is similar to a bath mat, it has the longish slightly fluffy piece that seem good at collecting litter off his paws and keeping it in the mat. I vacuumed it watch handheld vacuum, shake it outside and put it in the washing machine. So for any cats that maybe don’t like the rubber feel on their paws a fabrics microfibre type bath mat might be a good option 😊

I always use a large bath mat. It's rubber on the bottom so it doesn't slip and any wet doesn't go through. It's pretty easy to shake out, or vacuum, or even put it in the washer and dry on low heat. I use a pretty fine grain litter, and my baby is a "landscaper" and digs a lot. If you go to an outlet store you can get them pretty cheap.

I actually just use XL puppy pads. My boy doesn't pee or poop outside his box so I'm only catching scatter. I rarely need to replace them since they are dry and it is easy to dump litter back into the box. Good solution if you aren't concerned about "wet messes".

What has worked best for my four kitties are chenille bath mats. They avoid stepping on the traditional, plasticky types. Gorilla Grip makes microfiber ones with a rubberized bottom for wet messes - which I’ve experienced. The microfiber also grips tracked dust if you use a corn based litter like me. Easy to shake out, vacuum or throw in the wash and any size or color you want! Hope this helps someone out there. 🤷‍♂️

FYI Target sells a litter mat similar to iPrimio that’s by their house brand, Up & Up. It can’t be opened all the way which makes things difficult for liquid messes, but it is around $13.

  • @bettyboop1524

My Foster Fail is 10 and a digger, oh boy does he dig. He has finally chosen Garfield litter that is very fine and soft on his paws, boy does it track. I started looking at my things my other cats wouldn't use and found a chenille one that works. It's soft on his paws and catches most of litter from his paws. It's easy to shake out to clean, is washable. It's a dark brown, litter is white so I can see the trail of litter on this mat. Over the past several years I was taking care of my senior cats and one geriatric little lady. They all made messes out of the box, I found the waffle type gross to clean for my situation. Hard to hose off when it winter. Thanks for video.

I don't have liquid messes ever so I use the carpeted mats from Dollar General. I have 4 boxes, they work great. Litter comes off paws and then easily taps off when tilted. Also make great scratching areas in other places of the house.

I wish TH-cam would still let us post photos. We have a smaller two piece one like the first in front of one of our litter boxes where the holes are Velcroed to the under part. Brodie decided to make a game out of crawling into it, I think he’s too big now. I'll post it on the AAC forum later which everyone should join as you have the best newsletters.

Years ago I tried to create litter mats but being the cheapskate that I am, I came up with the idea of using textured rubber or urethane welcome mats for this. They were cheap and worked well ... until at least one of the cats decided that they were also appropriate things to pee on. They would invariably find the edge of the mat to do this, fluid would go under the mat, and messy time was had by all. I eventually abandoned the whole concept.
Today I might be tempted to try again but surprisingly there is very little spillage outside of the boxes. The occasional peeing on the exterior of a box is still an issue but at least they're consistent so I can simply tuck folded up paper towels in the right locations and discard them when they get "hit". The iPrimio looks promising for one box I have in mind so I believe I'll give it a try soon.
That Shark is amazing, isn't it? A friend recommended it as a replacement for my aging vacuum cleaner, and it is INCREDIBLE for thoroughly vacuuming up cat hair off of the carpeted stairs. (Potential future topic there?)

Nice! I have and like both the iPrimio and Blackhole mats. I don’t have any issue with folding and dumping from the tube style Blackhole mat but the book style is WAY easier to clean if there are any messes that need scrubbing. I also have a gorilla grip, ramen type which is better than nothing but so annoying to clean. Will try the Petlinks to see if it’s better for tracking.

I use a basic outdoor door mat that is rubber backed. It's large (60" by 36") so the cats can't just jump over it, they have to walk over it (though they don't seem to mind this one, they HATED the honeycomb litter mat). It's the TrafficMaster Enviroback Recycled Rubber/Thermoplastic Rib Door Mat and I paid $18 for it at Home Depot. It traps a ton of cat litter (like I could probably dump an entire box on it and barely get any outside of the mat) and it's easy to vacuum. We haven't had any wet accidents but I can't see there being any problems with that given that it's rubber backed and meant to go outdoors. If you have the room for a giant mat under your cat's litter box, I highly recommend it!

I also use the same type of mat. It's too big for my cats to jump over, catches all the litter before they walk off it, and the texture doesn't bother any of them. In fact, I sometimes find them stretched out on it relaxing.

I just bought a tufted outdoor floor mat from target for $10 the other day. The grooves are wide and deep enough for even larger litters (we use non clumping silica litter), it vacuums easily, and it can be hosed off occasionally. I would have spent $30-40 to get a cat litter mat this size, and it works much better than our old litter mat. It looks pretty stylish too. Something to consider as a budget friendly option.

I think one of the hardest litters to trap is the "Sustainably Yours" litter, first because it's so light that it seems to float out of the danged box, I swear, alway copious amounts make it out of the box. Secondly the shape is more like a flake than a granule so it won't fall into holes in a mat but lay atop them until tracked elsewhere. Great for forming really hard clumps for easy removal at scooping time but omg so messy. It's also super slippery on wood, laminate, and tile flooring and have almost landed on my butt several times after stepping on miniscule amounts even when wearing sneakers. It's also extremely expensive so we basically use it as an additive to our regular clumping clay litter which isn't always up to the challenge of quickly absorbing what our many cats and kittens produce. Am thinking the gorilla mats that we've used in the past until they fell apart are going to be very difficult to clean but may be the best option at this point. The last one finally completely deteriorated and shredded. They're not that cheap at local pet stores and we have many boxes that need them so hopefully will find a knock off on Amazon being sold for less than the brand name mats.

    • @Beth-mx8cg
      @Beth-mx8cg ปีที่แล้ว

Hi there! I started using Sustainably Yours this week in addition to our regular clumping clay litter. One of my cats just seems to prefer it. Are you still using it? If so, have you found a good litter mat for it? The tracking IS a lot. Thanks!

I needed a very big litter mat for multiple boxes in one space and the prices are so crazy that I went on Amazon and just bought a 4x3ft rubber outdoor work mat. It works amazing! $38 for that big and it's textured for shoes to grip so it catches almost all the litter and can easily be cleaned, I just sweep it and you can scrub it with a brush if you need to. It's thick also. The brand is rubber-cal but I'm sure you can find the same thing from many brands. It's a way better value than the litter mats. The prices are insane

I've heard someone recommend a fuzzy bath mat for helping with litter. I'm trying it out right now and I can't tell if it's working or not. My issue tends not to be the type of mat as much as it's the cats not spending too much time stepping on the mat on the way out.

I use dog training pads under the boxes. I have one cat that will only pee outside next to the box and only on the dog pad. It makes for quick easy clean up. Also, it captures the pee that some how escapes the protection of the litter box lid near the hinged lock downs by the other cats use. Using dog training pads has been such an improvement on my cleaning chores. I tried various forms of litter mats over the years and all just made more work than being helpful. I can see how litter mats might work for normal low maintenance cats. I just don't have those cats.

    • @enlightenedhummingbird4764
      @enlightenedhummingbird4764 ปีที่แล้ว

Boxes with lids are not healthy for cats. The dust that gets kicked up while they're digging is horrible for their nose, eyes, & lungs. My cat developed a cough and always had goopy eyes. I removed the box lid and started getting my litter from Petco in the bulk section, cuz THAT litter has already been agitated by others, and the poof of dust that comes up while I'm filling MY containers means the dust remains in the store all around the product nearby, and doesn't come home with me. 😜 My kitty was better within a few days (with no doctor visit!)

I know this is quite an old video, but I picked up the Petlinks Purrfect Mat and immediately noticed the sort of powder looking coating all over it, and came back to look if yours had the same, and it does. Is this something that's safe to be tracked on their paws? I'm struggling to find out what exactly it is.

Is the gorilla grip litter matt and the floor matt we usually see on the entrance of a hotel and malls kinda similar?

Yes!! The company I worked for had retail locations and that's exactly what the entry mats looked like just with a company logo! When we were acquired I seriously wanted to grab those mats from the stores but they kept the same logo.

I ordered 2 petlinks XL gray on Chewy. The color is a drab blue. The edges ripple, and the general appearance is messy,.They appear to be complicated to clean. I got a great deal on them and Chewy has a 365 day satisfaction warranty, but I hesitate to try it.

Can you please do a video about which mats are actually good specifically for keeping the pellet litter off the cats paws to stop them from tracking litter throughout the house? I use a tofu pellet litter for my cats and haven’t found one that works! The third choice you showed is terrible for pellets because they get trapped inside and can’t easily be removed by vacuuming or even hand picking them out! My cats don’t pee on them so I don’t care about their ability to trap liquid…my only concern is to stop the pellets from being tracked throughout my house.

My favorite litter mat ever has been a regular, low pile bath mat. It traps litter better than anything else I’ve tried, each mat costs about $20, and it’s completely machine washable. Only downside is that you do need to vacuum or shake out the mat to remove trapped litter before washing. That’s the same as the drizzle mat though and it vacuums a lot better than the drizzle mat.

I have the gorilla grip one and while it is easy to shake off litter and hold its pretty well, my one cat loves to puke on the mat. So yea, that design makes it difficult to properly clean puke/hairballs off

You can, but be VERY careful. Using a scissors around your cat's paws could easily end up in some nasty cuts. Instead, I'd recommend focusing on a good litter and mat combo. Good luck!

My preferred "litter mat" is something that's not available anymore. It's an Amazon Basics top-entry litter box (th-cam.com/video/1AR5ymmihTI/w-d-xo.html). It has all the advantages you claim for mats with none of the problems of a mat. The Basics litter box has a slotted grille on top rather than a mostly solid surface like other top-entry litter boxes, basically like it's the world's tallest, thickest litter catcher tray. That allows litter on their paws to fall right back into the box when they jump up on top to exit. I get a small fraction of the litter that used to be on my floors. The tall sides mean no litter or liquids can get out. It has a much smaller footprint than the combination of a litter box and mat. Lots of privacy for them, too. The hinged lid flips open instantly for scooping and being slotted, doesn't hold any litter to fall onto the floor. Unfortunately, Amazon discontinued it a few years ago. Only cost me $20 at the time and I think it's still superior to any other top-entry litter box available today. Wish I had bought a spare when they still sold them, but mine is holding up just fine under daily use from two cats. (They seem to both like it so much that they refuse to use the other litter boxes that I keep filled if they need them.)

I have tried several different litter mats, but always run into the same problem. Although I clean the litter box several times daily, and replace the litter weekly, the cat urinates directly onto the mat in addition to inside the box. The cleanup of the mat takes too much time and effort.

    • @whiteknightcat

I got the Petlinks XL in gray. I recommend avoiding the Petlinks.
The Petlinks.mat captures hardly any litter. It's not as easy to clean as my vinyl kitchen and bathroom floors are. It doesn't lie flat. It doesn't have a thicker ridge at the edge to help hold urine and it's very wobbly, so it would not be reliable to protect against spray or spills on carpeted floors. It smells bad right out of the package because its RUBBER. After washing it on a cool spring day, it stunk from being hung on my mostly shaded clothes line.
I gave it to a neighbor, then found it in the recycling 3 days later. There is no way to get the rubber smell out of rubber.
