Nice tutorial. Why didn't you simply go with 220 from the wall? What current was flowing when the power supply started to cycle on and off?
that was very good especially the part that shows the "FREQUENCY" of the circuit. Thanks a lot for you good video
What type of Variac to buy. Is it the 2000v 110V Input to 0-130V
Should be a link posted in the video description area. Thanks for watching!

How powerful is this arrangement? you can melt copper, thank you very much for the video is very cool.
how much time it take to reach 1600C ???
Hey Doug, Nice little unit, it would be great for making jewelry or other small castings, ingots of gold, etc.. Recently, I made a comment on Uncle Doug's TH-cam channel, he does vintage tube amps, and, in his reply asked if it was true that I was not a subscriber, when I have been a sub for 8 or 9 years, I get all his notifications, so, there is something wrong with TH-cam and there information. Still getting all your posts and videos in my subscriptions. You make really good videos and narratives on whatever subject you happen to feature. Thank you for your time and effort making them. Happy Summer, best, C.
Glad you enjoy my videos! I'm not surprised that other YT channels are also having issues.
interesting video 👏😍 .Can I expand rumor size for the meelting ?
Hey bro nice vid, do you thin
k i can connect a welder output to It?
Interesting video! Now that looks like a set up that a chemistry nerd would love.😉😉👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Please share the video link. Thank you!
Hy can we do silver casting on this stuf ? ,
Yes
What voltage would you need to melt platinum
Nice set up
Will this melt gold I eat by one but what type will a 120 volt do!?
@@EWASTEANDGOLD You're actually better off using this one that I show in another video.

Can you link the diy video? I'd like to make my own.
Thanks for your reply!
Is there a difference when I am just hanging the metal piece in the coil and not in a graphite crucible why it not melting??
I place some fire blanket around some aluminum bronze (My kit did not come with graphite crucible or ceramic crucible) and I cant get it past red hot I know its working on 220v because the amps go up to 50amp when I hang a big piece of steel in the coils but when the metal gets hot the amps go down but when I stick the steel in some fire wool it wont go higher than 14amp Please help I don't know what I am doing wrong!!
Hi.. A car battery will work for power supply?
1 car battery, no. You'd need 2 or 3 connected in series to increase the voltage.
Thanks for your prompt respond... How about if i have 2 12V 30A units.. Its possible to connect those together in parallel or in series?
Hi I had connected 2 units of power supplg of 12 v 30 A each but still not melting... Any advise on it... Txs
COULD A "HIGH FREQUENCY" TIG WELDER BE USED TO BUILD AN INDUCTION HEATER???!!!...
Is the heat controllable enough to be able to heat treat metal? Is there temperature feedback?
Heat intensity is controlled by voltage input, so yes. Thanks for watching Jim!
Hi again.. I got my self 3 of 12v 30 A power suppliers connected in series so its 36 v up to 1080 Watts. I have the water pump, etc.. Everything exact as you but still the copper is not melting.. Getting extremely hot.. Yes.. But not melting.. Any inputs on that....?
Not high enough wattage.
how much and where do you sell them?
Hi Keith. I placed a link in the video description area. Saturday you'll see me metal casting using this induction heater. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get that power supply? I am looking for a 12v version.
I posted a link in the video description area. You can search for 12V power supplies there. Thanks for watching!
Some time I seen the coil cooper no need to be coupled by water cooling system. But yours furnished by it. What diferent Sir, in case yours was not furnished by it?
For this level of heat you'll need water cooling. A solid copper coil will get extremely hot and melt if allowed to run long enough.
Why not attach several peltier modules to the bottom of the water pan to help cool the water?
The best cooling would be a liquid system for a computer.
I want this pretty toy to have fun and make all sorts of metal bars and alloys. Also to make skeletal metal catalysts.
Hello, may I know the crucible inside dimension? ID x H

I must be missing something. If you melt gold or silver in your induction furnace ( jewelry only comes to my mind) then you will end up with gold or silver ingot that is still polluted. Basically alloy correct ? so what is the poin ? Just changing shape of particular metal ? What did I miss ?
@@DavincisMind I'm not refining, I'm simply melting scrap metals into ingots.
I want this from where to buy this product
Still interested? Let me know. Sorry for the delay.
Hey me again I just got mine in the mail but I plug 220v into the power supply and it still only shows 53v about 5-20 Amps is there a 120v 220v switch inside I don’t see it on the outside how do I get to 220V????
No. The heating output varies with input voltage. In the video I used around 130-135v, and that made it work beautifully. Same power supply I got? It should work. Make sure all connections are secure. Play around with it.
Very nicely explained !
Glad you liked it!
Nice video.
I wonder if using a radiator and reservoir, like computer cooling does, could improve the coil cooling. Maybe it would allow building bigger and more powerfull induction furnace...
That would greatly increase cooling.
Hi @eletronicsNmore. Very good job! Like a beginner in the electronic world, I just didn't understood why are you using a power source and a variac at same time if your power source is bivolt. I need a variac to run the system? Thanks
The power supply output varies with input voltage. At 120v the output is low, and 240v the power output is very high, so I did some tests and found that 135-140V was ideal.
How many grams of silver can melt in this crucible? I’m willing to melt a full kilo
You'll need a larger induction furnace to do that. I can supply a link to one at a good price if you need one. Thanks for watching!
Hi Doug, thank you, this is a very interesting video. I buy gold from small miners in the interior of a couple of South American countries. I'm looking at loading a generator in the truck to power this small induction furnace. How long do you think it would take to smelt 20 grams of gold using this setup as is? How about with 220v?
Hi Dan. This induction furnace heats up very quickly when the correct input voltage is used, so it wouldn't take too long. The majority of power supplies allow 110v/220v input. BTW, checked out your channel, you're a great pitcher!
Where to purchase this componenets or can we pur hase from local market ?

You probably dont care but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend for the last days xD
@Ford Emery Definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
Very interesting, make that tank circuit as a primary and make a resonant coil secondary and see what kind of Corona discharge you get! 3-4 feet?😏😁 AKA TESLA COIL
:-) Thanks for watching!
Can you melt mild steel what would happen>??
I'm fairly certain it can, especially if the steel is small in diameter, and the input voltage is high. Thanks for watching!
Awesome review of this! I was always curious about it. What maximum temperature do you think it can reach in the crucible?
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure, but the link to the product may give more information. I think it would melt steel.
@@electronicsNmore Yeah, that’s great to know. Are you still running it with a variac or do you just use wall 120V or have you stepped it up to the full 220V? If you have taken it to 220V, I am confused with what cables and plugs to use. The only available outlet that is 220V in my house is my dryer outlet, but that has four prongs. I just don’t want to wire it up wrong or get a plug that has the wrong configuration. I just hope 120V is good enough. Sorry for all the questions and I deeply appreciate any help
What is the flux you use?
Borax
@@electronicsNmore Alright. thank you.
E os diodos? Que diodos são??

As long as it's inside a metal lunch box. 😂
VERY KOOL 😎 CONCEPT!👍
WOULD ADDING CAR COOLANT TO THE WATER WORK BETTER?
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST FOR ALL PARTS TO SET THIS UP?
I thought of that. :-). I bet it is. Total cost with coupon code just over 200.
@@electronicsNmore THANKS BUD! 👍 GIVE THE COOLENT A TRY & LET US KNOW IF IT MAKE THE SYSTEM MORE EFFICIENT or FASTER...
@@electronicsNmore Hey, I run a smaller 300# "Inductotherm VIP Power Trak"" induction furnace (for melting silver) at work and I was instructed to mix the coolant at 50/50 ethylene glycol and DI water.

Get you some pc water cooling radiators
I thought of that also. I may convert it later. Thanks for watching!
I want to know Platinum is melt or not....
I would need a sample. It melts steel, so it may be able to melt platinum which requires a higher temp.
What happens if you put your finger in the working coil well?
BTW, video was ruined by music. When you do that to people that wear headphones, it is pretty cruel. Otherwise, good video.
Music level was just fine, I edited the video using headphones. LOL Nothing happens to your finger.

Sounds like a jet
The whine sound, yes. :-)

I see no benefit to this system as is, one could continually add ice cubes to the pan though, the pouring is the issue, we want a good smooth bar, pouring does not achieve this any better than a standard kiln / furnace, however if one could modify this for a direct silver shot / crystal in a mold within the heat source, I believe this would be the better way.
I mean, how much will something like this set my electric bill back??
It's like powering a microwave oven. It heats fast, so you only use it 15-20 minutes.
The hardest part is getting the gold or silver to melt
Jewelry. :-)
Plz melt platinum.....
Nice alternative to torch but unfortunately not so reliable especially when all this mounting and welding electronic components come from China. I hesitated between torch or induction solution, finally i get my torch for cheaper and it will last decades.
It seems like simple circuit tho, and depending on where you live it would make sense to work of electricity rather than gas. Specially if you are off-grid solar/wind. Though there's also plasma arc melting that also works of electricity though is a lot more dangerous.
old school here as well - prefer your commentary over any music. how about casting a bracelet or something useful -everyone copy cats melting useless copper ingots then polishing em up -big deal. i have exact same model ZVS melter you have -had it for a year, still sitting in the box waiting for a brainstorm use. Read the crucibles burn up after a few uses so wondering how practical these are. even if not very practical, they seem to be very cool and very fast & quiet melters of high temp silver, brass, bronze, copper alloys and gold. Alternatives are noisy crucible furnace, or torch melting but torches will only melt a couple of ounces while these can melt a pound of metal fairly quickly. Big shout out to your channel -your videos are all great! Someone ask if it would melt iron check out what this guy is doing th-cam.com/video/wUS6wBxJd0A/w-d-xo.html &&& th-cam.com/video/J_AwPtrz8Cc/w-d-xo.html
zero information on current... even if you have 1GV with near 0A, you have near 0W. no power, no up vote.
No power? Really? I guess no power was required to melt copper in 10 minutes. Please, spare me the stupidity.

So how should I say this ?
Way to many OOPS !
The music added nothing to the video except to raise the annoyance factor, otherwise good job.
Sorry to hear that, I though it was very good. You can't please everyone on YT, no matter how hard you try.
@@electronicsNmore you could have used music at the same sound level, used music over fast motion video, and never have an interlude more than 7 seconds. I'm just suggesting ways to improve the video, the content is fine.
The music level was reduced 65% from the original file to a decent level. The great majority don't mind it, and actually enjoyed it, but I do appreciate your input.
I just wrote the same comment. It isn't even the choice of music, it is just totally doesn't fit in at all. I also had earphones on and it was not pleasant went it kicked in. Background music should be in the background. Otherwise, it is like a music video.
@@VidarrKerr To you the music doesn't fit, but to me and countless others it does. I could just imagine your comments on countless other videos on YT where the creator has background music playing. Background music is in the background at a low level IF people are talking, otherwise the music alone is fine. You need to stop letting minor things bother you, and show appreciation to others when they spend many hours filming and editing educational & informative videos, not to mention answering countless questions on a daily basis, many times at ZERO compensation. If it's too loud for you, very simple, lower the volume. The music was faded in, you make it sound like it instantly turned on loud. LOL
