Its hard to find black belts of this caliber in Tang Soo Do now a days. Most TSD and TKD schools became mcdojos because it brings in more money and pays the rent better.
@@buildwalls2001 thats great to hear! There are only a handful of quality dojo and dojang in my area. The ones that make all the money are textbook mcdojo belt mills. Its hard to run a traditional school when so many parents and students think that what they do at those places is traditional or practical when it's not. Ive traveled a lot too and unfortunately Ive seen more diploma mills than I have quality dojo/dojang. I wish you the best of luck in keeping your high standards alive at your dojang 😊
Well it also depends on the masters/ instructors and how they’re supposed to teach the martial arts or whatever the case may be. I train at a Taekwondo school actually, but I’m actually also interested in Tang Soo Do, however the master and instructors has to put together a plan and must know how to function a class for the students in order to build the school and bring in more and more students to show things that are practical, They also must show as perfect examples of what it really means to be a black belt, Because there’s alot more to being black belt than how other think what black belts are. I hope this might help you understand as well, And I also apologize if some may be hard to understand.
yeah, tkd and tsd got watered down. bottom line is the bills need to be paid: dojang rent, utilities, insurance etc, not to mention they need to make a profit. you can't make a profit with real high standards. belt testing fees are what a school lives on profit wise. so you have to lower the standards. it's a catch 22. if you have proper high standards then u have kids quitting.....if you lower standards then you aren't doing real tkd anymore. on the bright side, kukkiwon is trying to reverse this trend through training and certification. all the old masters are grandfathered in, but for a new master to issue kukkiwon rank certificates they need: 4th dan or more, a foreign masters license and examiner license issued by kukkiwon masters in person at the master and examiner training (5 day seminar) I keep standards high, but in fairness I'm not financially dependant on tkd income whatsoever.
I recognized the host's face. Barnaby! Children's show host when I was a kid in Cleveland. Thank you Master Willard for posting this. I knew that this Miss Kozak must have gone on to become a distinguished Master and googled to confirm. And the red belt was outstanding too. I have great respect for the poise and technique demonstrated in this video. Another TH-cam gem!
Both participants show solid and very good technique. It would be interesting to join a Tang Soo Do class one time. I liked her explanations too. Thanks for showing this!
Wow ! Outstanding example of strong basics ! Great attitude ! In the one steps ,when she throws the front kick side kick combination, unbelievably fast ! I wonder if examples like this exist anywhere today .
They still do to this day, but it mostly depends on the schools, the masters and how they practice and stuff like that. Masters/ instructors just lack the mindset of teaching or explaining things about how to perform some techniques and how it’s supposed to function when using your whole body when to kick, block, punch or takedown or something like that.
After watching this video, I am thinking of joining a Soo bahk do club. I'm in my late 20's pursing in web development at my tech college and I need some kind of excercise to get this weight gain off me from studying and improve motivation. Can someone tell me how Soo Bahk Do has benefited you?
My Martial Arts skills have really benefitted me. I was recently involved in a gang situation. It was 5 against 1. It took a lot of effort but we eventually managed to beat him...
Master Kozak is a uniquely gifted martial artist and athlete! All of the training in the world won't give you skills at her level! It transcends gender or being categorized by size. She would be terrifying to defend against knowing that if I don't have an opportunity to block, I'm dead inside of a minute! If you need an example of perfect techniques, this is as close as I've seen
@@davewillard_sabom Well, that's _two_ names I won't be able to correctly pronounce if my life depended on it! I am just grateful you have a more regular Western name, Mr. Dave Willard. 🤣 Thanks for sharing this clip.
I'm from Ohio. I just looked and I believe that school is still there. Cool man. She's very cute, though I wouldn't say that to her face. LOL! Especially now she probably weighs 300 lbs. This was a long time ago.
Nader Afshahri you obviously weren't paying attention. You don't kick strike or hurt people just because they say something stupid based on their age or their viewpoint if it's that bad you just walk away but if you have been paying attention you would have heard her say you have to have humility and discipline this is very much a part of most martial arts including Tang Soo Do. One of the concepts Tang Soo Do is "Humility" A second is "In fighting choose with sense and honor." There is no honor in a black belt or anybody for that matter beating up an elderly person for saying something stupid.
So crispy smooth techniques!
I trained with both of these martial artists. 2 of the best martial artists and instructors. I cherish my history with them.
Thanks for putting this up ! This shows how important strong basics are. Just amazing.
glad to see they received an 8th-degree black belt recently! congrats!
This is wonderful, she is so good
quick crisp strikes and can almost feel the power she delivers with strike. That’s hot!!!
😁😁😁

She’s a very humble young lady.
She was wonderful.
Tang Soo Do doesn't have the same kicking intensity, as it did in mid-90s, 80s, on down.
True. People weren't as busy as nowadays and could dedicate more time to specific martial arts.
Thank you for sharing! Great history!

That was how the traditional tangsoo do moo duk kwan clubs looked in the 80s. Crisp and clean
THIS IS WHY WE NEED TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS NOT MMA THUGs. LOVE THE HUMBLE ATTITUDE>
That girl has nice technique
She's amazing
La época en que los Danes de Tangsudo usaban el cinturón de color azul ¿medianoche?

5:50 What language is this man speaking?
clean kicks, great knee and foot returns
Surprised taekwondo people aren't trying to prove otherwise what she said about superior kicks.
