My headcanon is that this is a new addition to the Mirage Arena, so essentially it's as canon as the Command Board is.

@@TackyRackyComixNEO just google talisman kingdom hearts Roxas and Axel and the first thing to show up should be a post on boardgamegeek with someone who made character cards for Axel and Roxas. I’ve got them printed out and use Roxas or Xion whenever I play. Love my sea salt couple

If you do see this I know why the health dial goes to 12. The designer clarified that on a BGG post. In the original talisman games you could increase your health to 12 but in newer games it changed to 6. They left the dials the same to allow people to substitute the old rules for health if they prefer it that way. I hope this helps!

I like the detail of Mulan starting in Traverse Town; a world for those who lost their world to darkness. The Land of Dragons was a world that did so in KH1.

i meant to touch on this. there's no reference to Tarzan or any Tarzan characters but there are cards for "Power Wild attack" and "Treetops" as well as the DJ space
Honestly its absence is the only thing wrong with chain of memories.
Hundred Acre Wood should have been an annex, not a floor. Same for either Monstro, Atlantica, or Olympus Coliseum. End of the World I think should have been a floor too, preceding Destiny Islands.
Since Twilight Town was being sourced from Roxas, they might as well have made TWTNW a floor as well right? 🤷♂️
@@EqualityEarth Sadly they weren't able to use Deep Jungle in anything beyond KH1 due to not having permission from the owner of Tarzan or so that's what it seems as in beta picture of chain of memories had it in there. I think they were able to put it in the boardgame considering Square owns the name of the world as well as the world icon. Either that or maybe they got permission again.
@@EqualityEarth well it wouldn’t make sense for End of the World to be anything but the final level. But by that point Sora’s memories are so gone and Marluxia’s deception have been revealed

We need somebody making a 3 hour video explaining every little term in the franchise just to explain this one discrepancy(I personally think Ven Swaped stats with Aqua, but because Sora housed his heart Ven accidentally swapped Sora's Luck instead of his own)
Just finished your whole backlog in time for a new video. Your writing and delivery continues to be incredibly tight, and also I just wanna say how happy I am that you call him “Michael Mouse.” I have been doing this instinctively for like 2 years and I have no idea why it started, but I’m glad to not be alone.
See, now I wanna try playing this in such a way that each player can pick a party of 3 characters, alternating which character they roll for with each turn. With these house rules, I feel like it could make the game super kinetic and frantic. Only one character still would have to reach the goal, but now you have more options and can build a party to optimize bonuses if you choose to do so.
I like this idea. :) Might even have to try and make me a Roxas and Axel figure too so all the trios are complete for a full 4 player game.
@@MegaNumberXIII honestly I'm half considering using the bigass Axel and Roxas figures I have on my shelf, and then trying to think of some character stats before playing.
in theory though, one could just mix Sora and Ven's card to determine Roxas's, I suppose

Mulan has the added benefit of giving your non-Kingdom Hearts knowing friends someone to play as. I don't know if that was the intent, but it WORKS.

@@UltraMario True, but they’re already heavily involved in KH lore and have the crazy outfits to prove it. Mulan only appears in this and KH2, exactly the way she looks in her movie. Besides, she’s there to soften the blow of the girl shortage.

Knowing this franchise, the board game is probably canon and contains integral lore that is required to understand Kingdom Hearts 4.
In all seriousness, this just makes me hope for the return of a more fleshed out command board. The original is fun but there's so much more to be done with it.

It was bizarre in how it worked, because some of the stuff seemed to be well thought out, like Xion's ability to steal stats from someone she's near, but then you had that green requiem thing. I mean, technically aren't they mostly immune to magic anyway? It's a bit of a weird quirk.
I got this board game for Christmas and haven’t tried it cause it seemed intimidating to learn. I tried watching explanation videos but they didn’t help. You explained it so well though, now I really want to try out the game.

Corridor of Darkness sends you to the above space in the middle region, and if you have the gummi ship, you can go to a gummi path and travel to middle as well, it’s nice that there are more than one way to advance.

25:01 - 25:08 your line here about the sibling who gets crowned as the definitive household champion, matched with the scene of Sora and Riku trying to close the door almost makes it seem like Sora and Riku are those siblings fighting for the crown, which I found to be funny.

BBS command board is a wild experience. you go from cocky and winning to screaming threats at ventus for whipping out pete and stealing your points
I really need to talk some friends into playing this again. With three players it was a bit tense, and I'm pretty sure at least one of us died at some point but I can't remember who it was so I'm just going to assume it was Xion. Meantime our Riku player got duped by Maleficent twice in the same game, and then I swept through with Terra in what looked like a sure win for 80% of the game until I whiffed right at the end and iirc Aqua bailed us out instead. 10/10 impossible to play without running into funny coincidences.

Played this recently with some friends and we all had a blast. I would like to personally add some more to it though. Maybe add in some more bosses. And we sorta bent the rules with the trinity cards. You're all supposed to land on the same spot to use them but we tried for 2 hours just to do that and we couldn't so we agreed if we were all on the space or an adjoining one then we would count that and use it lol
I've been thinking KH could use a good Tabletop RPG. I'd say they should use the Mutants & Masterminds (3rd Edition) system, which already has everything needed for Kingdom Hearts. All they'd really need is to make a bestiary, give stats for a keyblafe, and it'd be set.

I got recommend your kh1 boss ranking the other day and ended watching almost everything on your channel. Last year I ended up playing through kingdom hearts 1 four times (long story) and came to the conclusion that it is my favorite in the series now. So it was pretty cool finding out that there is at least a few other people out there who feel the same. As far as this video goes I never had the guts to waste money on cool looking board games based on my favorite properties so it was neat getting to see what this was and confirm that I made a good choice in savings $70 because I would never play this. On a side note it was good to see deep jungle again. Nice to know it was really in 2 kingdom hearts games!
Midway through, only thing I noticed is that unless it says to discard the object, you don't. Weapons and Armor don't go away after being used, unless I glossed over the changes compared to normal Talisman
Edit: OOOOOOOR, it looks like you have a newer printing! Mine doesn't have that "discard Trinity cards in a two person game" rule, so maybe they added it later?
if you enjoyed this game, try out one of the DND board games. Legend of Drizzt and Dungeon of the Mad Mage were my favorites. they're pretty good timesinks and, similarly to this board game, once you give a quick skim through the rulebook, you'll be able to enjoy the game and be making luck/skill decisions! and the unique part of the boardgame is that you build the board as you go, so each "dungeon" is different every time you play it, AND there's 13 different adventures in each boardgame. it's got a TON of replay value.

i think the designers just messed up aqua and ven's magic and attack, ven is the all rounder of the bbs trio but aqua gets the balanced attack and defense and he gets max magic...

I've loved this video for a long time, Regular Pat. It's just so much fun, like all of your videos are. And every time I thought I was getting close to playing Kingdom Hearts Talisman, I would check it out again.
But I couldn't convince anyone to play it with me until today. And I had so much fun with it! So funnily enough, I had a lot of your experience. o_0 I ended up with the Jiminy Cricket card pretty early on, but thankfully didn't have any friends/summons cards then and was able to get rid of it pretty fast, with a card that told me to discard any friend cards I had, which I happily did with that one (the only friend card I had at the time).
I played this game against my mom (who I've actually shown playthroughs of Kingdom Hearts 1, CoM, and a bit of KH2). And at first, I was flying high, myself (thinking/hoping I'd win, tbh). But what ended up screwing me over was the Bouncywild card (and deciding I could brave landing on Neverland, that of course had a good chance of making you face three enemies there. I only ended up having to face two [because one of the cards I drew there was Ariel], but the Bouncywild card I received and the Black Fungus one I drew really did me in). That card made it so you lost all of your item cards (I think even your spells!), and your munny. And it had you lay the cards you lost on that space, so anyone who landed there could pick them up. And granted, I potentially could have landed there again and gotten them back. But my mom's very next turn she landed there and picked up all of the cards I'd just lost. LOL And then the Black Fungus made it so the next two turns, you couldn't move any more than one space. And then I got even MORE bad luck on top of that for the rest of the game. LOL
I'm starting to wonder if this game is designed to give the more casuals the best luck, while screwing over the die-hards. Kidding. Kidding!:) In all seriousness, I love this game so much, and am THRILLED I finally got to play it (and thank you again for this video, by the way. Your explanation helped me understand some of the stuff with the item cards that I was having trouble getting).
Do you think you might do a review on Kingdom Hearts Perilous Pursuit? I've already played that KH board game, and I'm definitely curious on hearing your thoughts on it:)

Edit: one more thing. Let’s all appreciate that whoever designed this board remembered Xion exists, which is already better than Roxas, Axel, and half the KH community.
"Xion" sounds like it could be the name of a real organization XIII character, but they already have 13 members. I don't remember her from 358/2 Days or Chain of Memories, was she a background character?

As someone who played D&D a couple of times, it feels like Talisman is actually a more simple version of that. A lot of Tabletop RPG's tend to put a lot of emphasis on the Role-playing aspect. So for example, a campaign of D&D can allow you to do pretty much anything as long as it is confined in the story and whatever action you take is based off of rolling different dice to see what happens to the player through their action. Also if you think this game has a lot of math. Hoo boy, in D&D you have to use math to know how much you can move let alone do any actions like attacking or casting spells.
Still, one of the best aspects of D&D is that despite the rules, it's actually pretty flexible and I've seen some people attempt to Homebrew (Create something for a specific campaign not from the official game like characters or items) certain aspects of Kingdom Hearts into their campaign like a Keyblade Master class or a race of Nobodies. Though I may warn you that Homebrew is something that really requires a lot of time to do and some dungeon masters don't take lightly to random Homebrew elements in their campaign.
Or you could just play an RPG _made_ for homebrew, like FATE, Savage Worlds, GURPS, OneDice...

Yo, this is unrelated to the board game, but I've maxed out all the character levels in MoM and apparently Meow Wow is stronger than Aqua. I guess that's canon now.......

Rad intro and explanation. You convinced me to shell out seventy Munny, Ser. I've played both series for years, and while it is essentially just like you said, the base Talisman game with a reskin a la countless nakedly greedy Monopoly "special" editions, I laughed at how dirty they did this in the case of Jiminy Cricket.
I just immediately imagined some disgruntled employee of Games Workshop who obviously resents their pesky concience, so they just made him into the dreaded 'Hag' from base Talisman, which is identical in form and function, and just as depressing to draw.
This grafted-together golem of a game baffled me when I was first made aware of it, but I think I see how such a cardboard chimera as this came into being. I would bet money that KH collaborated with Talisman because both franchises are known for being replete, overflowing, nay!--teeming even, with Gummiloads of optional and wildly varied modular content in the form of expansions which themselves, much like the fringe KH games, come in a kaleidoscopic cornucopia of sizes, game mechanics, new resources, treasures, etc.
This would position the four optional corner board zones which nearly triple Talisman's board space and the expansions for which they are named, The Highlands, The Dungeon, The City, and The Woodlands could easily be retooled as new board zones for both mainline sequels with two leftover to bring in some of those bo-nanners absurdly titled KH spinoffs.
P.S. If you think this board is elaborate, just look up "custom homemade 3D Talisman board" to see the most any single person has ever invested into fine luxury card stock and plastic, my dude. It is stunning.

Instead of Xion and Mulan, I was thinking Roxas and Eraqus but now Xion makes more sense because Ventus is already there. I love Xion, but I figured she would've been left out due to her first appearance being a Nintendo DS game
