    Love chippies so much! Really Great video ^_^ Another great variation is to put some coconut sugar on them (or add to spice mix) adds a nice sweetness. Also lemon juice can be a great addition.
    Just sending an email to you x

      Freelee the Banana Girl Thank you :) Never tried the sugar (or lemon) variation and I must give it a go. After all when it comes to chippies...you are an expert! ;) You email was received and I have already answered to it. Thanks for watching Freelee, very kind of you

    i just made these and it turned out very crispy! i never had homemade fries this crispy n i used to use oil ha! only thing i had to extend the time, i kept them in an extra 15-18 mins instead of the 10 suggested here. thanks for this easy and delicious recipe guys!

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ninjaturtles12121 Any oven has it's ups and downs, and the temperature knob usually ends up being a joke rather than a precise instrument. This is probably why you had to extend the cooking time, which is something I have to do too sometimes. Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed the recipe :) I love positive feedback ;)

    We have an air fryer which we use for making fries and it works great! the spices I like are cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder and sometimes a touch of rosemary. Sometimes if im being lazy i use pre-mixed spice blends, cajun and fajita seasonings both work well.

    I haven't had potato fries in so long, and now I really want them! I'll be sharing this recipe with my husband. He has been recently eating plant based due to my influence and a while back I bought him some Silpat baking mats. So this would be a great way to use them!

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Li-San Loves I can't believe you managed to turn your husband into a vegan :D Well done my dear. I have a few of those Silpat mats and love them, but when it comes to this recipe I prefer greaseproof paper as the potatoes are much easier to remove once they are cooked. Thanks for watching ;)

      The Vegan Corner I don't dampen the fries, the starch helps the spices stick then I bake for 30+ minutes at 450 until crispy. There are always variations in spices and temps, etc. Some people like to boil the potatoes at first but who has the time lol. I'm not a professional but I've come up with lots of tasty low fat recipes that people seem to be enjoying. I'm happy that more people are going vegan and not eating animals. :)

      I might be swearing in Church now, but I always pre Cook the potatos in the microwave for 3-5 minutes before I frie them in the oven. This makes the fries soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. I know many belive that the microwave is unsafe, but I don`t :-)

      linuxsource You are obviously free to do whatever you think it's best to make the perfect potato dish. I surely won't judge you, nor will try to force you to do otherwise. Cooking is an art; we all enjoy different things, and that's why we always like to give people some options in our recipes. Fro example, I like this dish with only sweet potatoes and pumpkin :) Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience with us, very kind of you.

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Klea Kay The time needed to cook these fries is for creating a crispier outer layer, so no; steaming or boiling the potatoes first will not speed up the cooking process, as the outside layer will still need the same time to properly brown. I hope this help :) Thanks for watching

    I recently watched a video where they took the skins from the squash, pumpkin and potato and made them into crisps. However, they used a ton of oil before they put it in the oven.
    I've had great success getting my potatoes to Crisp in the oven oil free (thanks to you). I can't seem to get the crisps or the pumpkin seeds to work.
    In America pumpkin is seasonal right now and there is a lot of excess pumpkin going to waste because people only use them for decoration. I hate waste! We tend to collect them and eat many pumpkin for free! I'd love to see what different healthy variations you could come up with to give us a few extra ideas!

      I understand! I look forward to every video that you post. I'm so excited to have found somebody that uses fat free oil just like I do lol. It's vegans like you (and your partner) who are more interested in highlighting flavor in recipes that help vegans like I who struggle to convert their families.
      We aim to try every new recipe you post, and I'm proud to watch my family satisfied after a completely vegan meal scratching their heads wondering why they don't miss the meat. lol!
      Slowly, but surely they're coming around! Especially once they realize that clean eating tastes (and feels) so much better than all the fatty foods that they've been putting in their body for so many years.
      Thank you for your reply and videos! Be well my friend!

    I made a few a couple of times and it tasted great, but now i want to make a lot, so i'm not going to use the electric oven i used, now i want to use the hot air oven option on the combi microwave, is it true what some sources say that when using a hot air oven you should take 10% of the temperature? so in stead of 220 degrees make it 200 (198)?

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +supersilverhazeroker I heard about that, but I don't know if it's actually true. However, I can tell you from now that if you cook the potatoes at 200°C, the worst thing that can happen is that they will take a bit longer to cook.

    I used to make oven fries using potatoes which were boiled for 5 - 10 minutes before cutting them. I thought that would make sure, that they are no longer hard in the middle.
    next week, i'm going to make them like in your recipe. I hope, i can really skip the annoying step of boiling them first.

    Can you peel the potatoes before cutting them or will a skin form when cooking them if you do ? Thanks :)

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Maria Smith That's really up to you to decide, as it doesn't make much difference if you keep or remove the skin. However, the skins are nutritions as well :) Thanks for watching

      +The Vegan Corner My pleasure. Thanks to you I don't have to starve on vegan diet. I prepared them exactly like in your recipe and I am amazed by the taste. Now I am addicted. They're better than grease covered fries from the shop and the amount of work you have to put in them is not big.

    • @thevegancorner
      @thevegancorner  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vegan Vlogs No worries, if you don't wash the potatoes it doesn't change much. Starches have a poor flavour release, which means that they actually cover flavour instead of adding it. But in this instance is such a small quantity that it doesn't make much of a difference. Please go ahead and let us know if you enjoyed the recipe once you've tried it ;) Thanks for watching
