I don't give two shits about whether my food ends up hot or cold. You sacrifice that aspect when you call for delivery. 😒

    Here we are in Singapore, telling shoppers to use eco Bags in NTUC and discourage plastic bag use. but we order food delivery who use a lot of packing for soups, deserts, food, and generate so much packing waste each time you order one.

      Tse Hong Ling Packaging materials can be made with fully recyclable ingredients. Your comparison seems to be biased towards the people working for the food delivery industry rather than ecological. We, as Singaporeans, should encourage using only recyclable materials for packaging even if it cost more.

    I live abroad and use these food delivery services to order food for my disabled relative as a treat for the weekends and public holidays. There is a minimum spend to meet so it can get expensive ordering via these food delivery services but it is still worth it because at least my housebound relative can get to eat delicious food which she would not have otherwise been able to enjoy.

    This video seemed like it didn't really have a direction to it. It started out loosely looking at the ban on scooters and almost immediately abandoned that line of inquiry. Then it started pushing some weird agenda about the quality of food when it's travelled for 30 minutes, only it turns out average travel time is actually just 6 minutes.
    Lines of inquiry were abandoned without resolution and then you had to try to awkwardly bring it all together at the end in a way that made no sense.
    One chef decided to start vacuum sealing his food so he can prepare it and have customers reheat it instead of just realising that the food will continue to cook in the box so he just needs to leave out the last 3 minutes of cooking.
    One minute we're going to go on a ride along, the next minute you're changing the subject. What an absolute mess.
    But my favourite part way making out that a $4 delivery fee is a lot for food that costs $30/meal. 🤣

      I thought it was a satire of the news. Take a format for something serious and apply it to something frivolous and notice how taboos force belief by silencing doubt. For example, the questions you asked wouldn't have been asked, even if all these same flaws existed, if the topic was "serious".

    • @micheloving

      The agenda probably is to somehow justify the ban of escooters and somehow discourage ppl using food delivery ? Well we all know who CNA main sponsors are.

      @TJ Marx I feel like the main purpose of the video was to address the issue of whether food delivery is worth the consumer’s money. I kind of think that he tried to tackle key factors like the cost, quality and time the food gets delivered. ( thus, the recent case of pmd ban on pedestrian footpath which is not the main point that he wants to discuss )
      I find that there was a structure to this video although a little haphazard. He did follow the line of inquiry and gave us insights on the inner workings of food delivery companies and how they justify the prices, quality and what measures they implement to ensure that the quality of the food is optimal. I feel like he did question every statement he received. (the chef blaming the food delivery service for not separating the food versus the chefs themselves packing those dishes together)
      I mainly think the video is targeted for the consumers of such services and whether it is still a smart choice to continue using those apps. (especially since there is an increasing trend as shown in the data)
      At the end of the video, i liked how he pose a challenge for the chef to try and solve. Alas, his solution was not as efficient as it takes the convenience out of the equation. From this, he was actually trying to prove that the quality of food will forever be different and that somethings would have to be compromised to give way for the other things.(quality vs convenience)
      Overall, this video was effective in allowing viewers to ponder and evaluate for ourselves and he shouldn’t be the one to solve it for us (there is no concrete solution) It was a creative take on it as compared to other talking point as he was constantly on the move (drawing similarities to food delivery services who are always on the move)

    Honestly just some personal opinions :
    1)First of,shouldn’t the video focus more on the consumers’ perspectives mostly due to them being the primary consumer and the ones paying? (First off the consumers chose in the first place to place their money on food deliveries regardless of the “food quality” compared to the expense being able to eat at home in their own comfort etc)
    2)Sorry la I’m not so atas to like normally head to some atas restaurant and spend so much money just for the sake of that “distinct food quality”,I head to work,head home tired,just wanna grab some quick bites”.Maybe I’m part of the minority in Singapore where I dont splurge on the extra money for extra food quality,food is either edible or inedible to me.
    3)Of utmost importance,since the video focuses on food delivery,shouldn’t they focus on factors eg. Why do people use food deliveries? How does it impact their lives in Singapore? Instead of that all I see in the video is just a bunch of restaurant chefs giving their opinions bla bla on food quality etc,how to improve food quality etc instead of focusing on the important things.

    Anyone who really care so much about their food quality like the artichoke chef will be like the other chef who do not use such services.
    But even for chef, there are situations when they just prefer to get the food on table instead of going through the chores of preparing and cook it.
    For busy people or during critical or emergency situations, preparing food isn't something that we are willing to invest our limited energy on.
    The very first time I use grab food personally download and order on the app is the day after I spend 4 hours at polyclinic followed by 7+hrs at hospital A&E department waiting for my mum to see a doctor and discharge home. And I totally enjoy the convenience of such service that now my extended family gathering usually includes such delivery from various restaurants to suit everyone needs and expanding the variety of food each week.
    Let's not forget about those who do not know how to cook or those that rent a place with no cooking facilities.
    It is not worth the extra money and received food quality for regular meals but in celebration and when we are too tired, it's a God send.

    With Covid 19 and other restrictions, I wonder if anyone is paying attention to the hygiene and cleanliness of the delivery personnel? They can easily transmit all types of infections. The consumer has no control or say in that matter.

    im upset the fact that the previous talking point was way better and this ep barely had coverage of the pmd problems and assumed quality of food is what people are looking out for and the fact are leaning more towards the incentive and food deliveries discount which are the real incentive. basically don't watch this ep it's just common sense, anyone would know quality of food will be degraded, PEOPLE DO IT BECAUSE IT'S C O N V E I N T. PERIOD.

    • @eisenklad
      @eisenklad 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      extra packaging? disposable cutleries/containers? CO2 emmission from the motorbikes/cars/vans that do delivery, increased energy demand on the power grid from E-bikes/PMD? (Ebikes and PMD might seem efficient at using the energy but our Energy production isnt that clean either.)
      or the human environment of more people moving around at a rush?

    Not a accurate report because it varies from restaurant to restaurant and delivery times are different. Food usually not fresh anymore because the heat in the delivery boxes re cook the food. Better to pick up the food than order delivery

    The greater the need to outsource your inconvenience to make yourself convenient.i.e buying other people's time for reasonable(cheap). The greater the consequences of no longer having the skill to cook for yourself when all else fails.

    you can call me conservative but for me having a meal is about experience, and not just fullfill your hunger.
    yes. food delivery is convenient for working parents, so do meal prep. instead paying for food delivery and let child having bad food, parents can hired local cook to prepare meal prep for entire week.
    More practical and cost effective.

    just a few points:
    1. convenience vs food quality, most people use food delivery because of convenience, don't really expect it to be as good as restaurant's quality
    2. perhaps can also talk about the environmental cost
    3. it covers various topics that worth to further discuss. however this show seems to be narrow and shallow. If cannot really bring up a new viewpoint, or discuss thoroughly, then it is best not to touch the topic.
    4. the production team should include more people with different ideas. This episode's quality is really not good.

  • @carnesir

    1. Why don’t they interview the delivery rider if they know how to pack the food? Restaurants and delivery providers can only do so much but the rider on the ground is the most crucial in this business.
    2. True that people will pay extra for delivery but that is offset by convenience and the 10% less service charge they slap on the bill if they dine in, so I don’t really care if the food is perfect or not. It is basically a trade off of convenience versus eating at restaurant itself.
    3. The chef came up with a good idea to make sure the taste is not compromised by the delivery, but it is not practical as no one would want to heat up the food because it defeats the purpose of convenience. Besides not everyone have oven at home. And also, a lot of plastic wasted.

      Even a chef like the artichoke also use food delivery services. Some people don't even know how to cook or during family gathering we want a big variety of food while not stressing the person (usually mum) who have to prepare all food for weekly gathering.
      Another thing is u may be a great chef but if you do not have enough ingredients in fridge because you don't cook daily.
      And for long working hours staff who just want to grab anything to fill their tired tummy and rest.

    • @ainzooalgown7589
      @ainzooalgown7589 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like deliveries, since sometimes to go and dabao requires me to travel from home to the store which is at least 30 minutes of travel there and return, then need to wait for them to cook another 15-20 minutes, then the public transport fee there is $1 there and another $1 back, so for 1 hour of travel to get my food + $2 travel fee, its cheaper to just order delivery and save 30 minutes of travel

    • @celestialstar124
      @celestialstar124 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ainzooalgown7589 great that u even considered the cost of transport. If you are paid $10 per hour for salary then that 1 hour of time wasted on going to buy food will also add up to your salary if u decide to work instead of wait.
