    Battery pack completely drained overnight, may need more battery and solar both!

      Interesting experiment... hopefully you'll continue to give us an update. But I wonder if the cost of the battery and the panels worth the cost? Maybe those with position issues and who want to put Luba/RTK in the middle of the yard without running a cord... this is an option. Can you tell me how many satellites on average you receive with Luba and the RTK? I saw in reddit someone reaching 44 satellites... I've never gotten more than 30 myself and I have my RTK on a raised deck with clear open skies... thanks

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@covertpuppytwo3857 solar for luba definitely not worth the price, just do it for fun or experimentation. It cost me about $0.21 in electricity per week to operate Luba 24/7 here. I've received as many as 45 and as few as 19 on my RTK receiver. Positioning satellites are not static They move so there's not always the same amount above. I had no problems with positioning even when I had RTK mounted on the pole with luba charger. Most people won't need to remote mount their RTK.

      @@Crazypostman 15W sounds about right for "idle", as we're talking about the charge brick converting AC to DC (some loss there), and the IR window always beaconing out a homing light for Luba to see and zero-in on. (Light might be strobing, or always on... likely strobing something like 10 times a second.) I don't think you're daisy-chaining the RTK off the dock, just using its own brick. If you are daisy chaining, well, RTK always runs its GPS radio receiver and the Luba's locational broadcaster (and the LED too). I'd have to look at my brick to read that power pull.
      As for the downward charging trend, sounds similar to EV charging cycles... That first bit of charge is full-power, after you get up to X percent, it slows down charging, and tries to aim to stop at the 90 pct mark.
      As to the running out of power, it looked like your area was mostly shade by that 2PM/3PM charge test, so you were running effectively at full battery, negligible solar, from 3PM and on. 6:30 PM you were at the point where it was bouncing at 15 pct. We can tell that Luba on a full charge, plus sitting idle, chewed up about 10 pct. The heat didn't help the battery pack (630 battery pack was 107 internal), it probably had to get rid of heat too (does it have fans? They probably chew 1 pct per hour, my guess). Not sure what else chewed through the 80 pct... I'm sure you put it through a zone mow, which is probably 1 recharge in middle, and 1 recharge in end. I'd expect, before dawn on a hot day/night, with 1 full charge at 2-6PM (your demo), plus another couple mow cycles, that it might be down to 20-30 pct before sun rises to pump some solar into the panels.

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it went out for a Mow overnight so it would have recharged once in the middle and it was recharging after completing when the battery died. This is doable I just need more of everything battery storage and solar

    I'm doing this on my rural property. There's no shortage of Sun in No. Cal. I do this to have my charger and RTK antenna in a far corner of the property, away from trees and my house, and with wide open sky. The position is great, but no AC outlet. The solar only takes about 90 mins to fully recharge while the mower is on the job. Works great.

    Very cool experiment perhaps Mammotion will bring out a Luba garage that has the solar charge panel built in so the entire unit; charge station and RTK can run off of solar power with no power cords required!

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A solar panel the size of the garage top wouldn't nearly be near enough unfortunately. But it would be better than nothing and fun to experiment with. (For the price of that piece of plastic they sell as the garage it should have a solar panel on it already)

    • @erpbridge
      @erpbridge ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Crazypostman Agreed. You'd have to have a battery pack in addition to store power when Luba is out, or when Luba is full charge but idle day in the garage, to store additional. If Luba is taking 150-180W to charge, and the "top" of a garage is about the size of one of the 4 segments he had on top of the tomato planters... That'd be 50W in PERFECT conditions, assuming the panel was brand new and had zero manufacturing defects and zero age and was getting the most ideal angle of sun directly above it all the time. With that, even if Luba would accept under-volting for charge, you're roughly at around 4x as long to recharge Luba. Upping a charge cycle (15pct going up to 80 pct before continuing job) from ~2 hrs to an entire daytime worth of sun just for a "continue" worth of recharge. With a 5000m lawn? You'd never get all zones completed in a 7-day cycle before the first job interrupts and runs again.

    @donwheeler1683 ปีที่แล้ว

    From my recent purchases of a Bluetti system, you only get about 20% power if panels are in the shade! Move them out into the sun. Also, not recommended to leave out in rain!

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      They're in full sun from sunrise till about noon and then no more sun because of trees. If I was really serious about it I could move them further out and the sun would last longer but I'm just messing around here

    We have been running a Luba 5000 for about one month now in winter with 2 x 200w solar panels and 1kw lithium battery and 1000w inverter. Allows Luba to mow around 2000m2 per day, which is about 2.5 charges. Any more than this and the battery runs too flat. In summer we could probably get about 50% more. Each battery charge is around 290w.

    Mine missed a strip in the front yard yesterday. Which is the first time I've had that happen with single cut. In my experience, segment mowing causes it to miss several lines like that in some areas of my lawn.

    It would be interesting to see how it looks and sounds when the anti-theft measures kick in, i'm assuming that you can define those? Like if it should trigger if anyone tried to lift it and whatnot ? Also, can you arm/de-arm it on the machine itself or do you need the app to do that ? I don't see a keypad on the mower so it would make sense that's an app onlly thing.

    • @Crazypostman

      Luba doesn't have a anti-theft alarm. The only anti-theft feature Luba has is no one else can operate luba once it's registered to your account.

    I have a few questions if you don't mind. I just got my Luba in about a week ago. I am running Apple for my app and I have to force close it and reopen it if I go to another screen/turn off the screen or the movement doesn't update. Also it seems like my return to home is EXTREMELY slow. Do you seem to have the same issues with yours. Fellow Okie here as well by the way. You convinced me to go with the Luba. I had the Ecoflow Blade for about a week and was really unhappy with it.

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Luba does drive slower when it's going on pathways and returning home that's normal. As for the app I would say that's normal to not have the progress updating when it's in the background. You have to open the app and reconnect to luba before you get your live progress. But I don't use Apple so I'm not sure how the app acts on Apple products Maybe someone else can pipe in with their Apple experience.

    Hi Crazypostman, after watching all your movie clips on the luba I have decided to order the luba 2, 1000m. My question is I'm in the UK and looking for powering the the luba with a power pack and foldable solar panels which will be attached to my shed roof in the direction of the sun. Could you advise what power pack would be the best to buy, I was thinking just to make sure I had enough power I would go with the ecoflow river 2 max with 160w panel's or would you recommend a different make or upgrade etc. Thanks for you help in advance.

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! I want to caution you just a little. This ended up not working for me with the eco flow. After a day or two it ran out of power and was no longer able to keep up on solar. Yes I could have added more batteries and more solar to make up for it but luba of really doesn't use but a few pennies of electricity so it really wasn't worth it, It was just a fun experiment.

    Luba mowed it's job this afternoon and then just stopped near the end. When I went over to check on it, Luba was dead as a door knob. It never went back to recharge. It happens to be on 2 zones that overlap like what you had before.

    • @Crazypostman
      @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does that when it can't find a path back home not sure why but you might have to draw a pathway even though it overlaps. Did you just upgrade the firmware or had you already mowed that area since the last firmware update?

      @@Crazypostman I fired it up for the first time yesterday and it updated phone app and luba fw. When I try to make a path, it says one already exists and I need to delete it first. @Crazypostman  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RJMachine62 yeah if You're in the zone and it can find its way home from inside It shouldn't be an issue that's a strange one. It is a computer if it starts doing something weird a reboot is always a good idea. Just pull the safety key for a minute and then put it back in. After it boots up you'll have to do the calibration. I'm thinking there was something fishy in this newest firmware update because mine has a weird behavior about crossing zones to now.

      Good suggestion but I don't think I want to open up my luba for this experiment. Maybe somebody else could try... It's a good idea to use the built-in luba battery to power your GPS tracker You just have to remember the luba battery is 25 volts most small electronics are going to be 12 volts or 5 volts. But it would be an interesting experiment but I Don't want to open my luba up I might not get the waterproof seals correct when closing it back up.

      That's the only special command that I've learned besides the factory reset. To lower the deck drive Luba away from the dock. Then push the red stop button. And then I think it's a double click lowers the deck one notch. So to get it all the way to the bottom you'll have to do that several times double click and then you'll hear it lower and then double click again and you'll hear it lower again.
