Cheers! Very informative and helpful. I was half way taking the thing apart and wondering how to take the bulb. Didn't know I can just wiggle it out so simply and save myself some time. Thank you once again.

if I want to replace it with newer LEDs what type do I get? DC type or AC type? and is the G4 12v 20 watt halogen light AC or DC in the kitchen hood?

Thank you Barry but how can I take a compliment when every man and his dog will know that you're on the show each week. I will long term use the donations that are provided by the consumer to provide a better show each week.and hopefully get the manufacturers on board with the design process of the machines. this is not about a consumer society this is about actually making the planet a better place with longer lasting machines and more repairability. In my lifetime I would like to see the right to repair program that is coming in place make customers more comfortable in purchasing their appliances and the manufacturer more responsible towards the environment for our future generations

Impossible to not break the glass

I'm sitting here with a bloody thumb from trying to insert a new bulb that broke when pushing it into the socket. I've never had such difficulty before. I got the burnt out bulb out, but one pin remained so got that out using needle-nose pliers. But now I can't get the replacement bulb in! Despite gentle pushing & wiggling - it just won't go in. I never had this issue before so I pulled out a working bulb from another cabinet puck light & compared it to the burnt out bulb & they match.
Then, when I tried to replace the good, working bulb back into it's socket, it too won't go in!!
There must be a trick I'm missing.
Is it possible that once removed, they can never go back in? That seems silly but have to ask as now I have 2 cabinet sockets with missing bulbs as can't insert them!
I'm so frustrated I put call into our electrician but that'll take time. I hope someone can help.
I have a pack of new replacements, but the pins on that package are just a tiny bit longer which seemed odd so now I wonder if this exact bulb is also make with slightly (and I mean ever so slightly - less than 1 mm) longer pins?? The spacing between them is 4mm so I assumed all G4 12v 20w T3 bi-pin bulbs would work. Tks for any tips!

I'm sorry to hear it drew blood. I can only go by what you have described as I do not have the appliance in front of me to me. It sounds like you may have damaged the location lugs in the holder. It may be easier and cheaper for you just to replace the light fitting. I'm sorry I can't be any more assistance without having the appliance in front of me. Have a great New Year. Please remember to subscribe to the channel

These bulbs stop lighting even when they are not burned out. I often have to move them back and forth to get a connection. Does anyone know of a way to keep the prongs connected? Is there some kind of fluid that can keep the prongs conducting electricity? Very frustrating.

"Just gently wriggling the bulb and gently slide in"
Haha! Yeah, right! Those sockets are the most oversprung, tight, poorly designed lamp sockets in use today.
Also, that little halogen bulb is so fragile! In that any sideways force on those pins leads to the glass breaking & making the bulb useless.
I watched this video hoping to learn "the nack" of how to use this god awful socket.
But nope, we're advised to just "wriggle it in"!
Best tip is that these bulbs are much cheaper on eBay. Then the few you break trying to get them in won't cost an arm & a leg!
I've replaced mine with long lasting LED versions. Then the lamp will outlast the cooker!
Just put "12V 20W LED G4" and you'll see them. Sort by lowest price + postage too, for best economical results.

Well I tried to explain it as best as I can for the consumer yes they are very tight sockets but you must admit if you take your time and slowly wiggle the bulb it will come loose. Will someone that knows this so well you must be trade I hope you found the video useful for anyone that you wish to pass it on to

LED all the way, I was forever changing halogen ones - Must be about three years I changed them to LED, no blow outs at all. It is quite a fiddly job and awkward to get too, but you can also prize open the whole unit out, then it makes it easier to work on.

apparently not possible to do this on all models due to the location of the transformer or something?
