Was a racer friend of Harold in the 90’s. I got my CDL in private school and for an article I went through all of the TMC training in January of 97.
Very good company especially for a “thinking” driver. Great training !!!

Great video! Nice job on tarping! A tip: bungees (hooks) should face away from the tarp to avoid holes if possible. Hooks too; if possible always connected to the frame inside out so the frame doesn't cut them. Fun fact: I used to help my dad with tarps at 16 in Morocco. He'd say "get an education" when I messed up. I did, earning a Master's & PhD. And went back to driving. Ironically, when I came to the States, I found out that my tarping skills were way better in Morocco 😂. Good luck, and respect trucker!!

Enjoyed your video Brian if I were 20 years younger I believe I'd enjoy truck driving, my grandson drove for TMC for about a year and half but has since moved on to another career. I talked to him on the phone just about every day while he was driving. I probably drove him nuts (he claims I didn't) with all my questions, where are you at, what are you hauling, where you going, how's the truck holding up, how many miles today?? Endless questions, but I loved it. I miss our daily talks.

I drove for TMC 15 years ago, they kept bending me over with OOR. I would follow their directions which many times would go the wrong way or they would low ball the runto the shipper and when you went over on the milage they would drop your percentage. It got old quick. This is not an easy job being a flatbed driver so last thing you want is them lowering your pay when you didn't do anything to warrant it. They would bill 120 to tarp a load and driver only received 20 of it lol

Great video prime example of how one can work for free. You don’t get paid for any of this. You don’t get paid to load or unload. You get a flat rate depending on freight rate and right now it ain’t that great. 30% of nothing is actually nothing. Gave it all up and I’m working local pay by the hour with overtime. Work five days a week and just got all three full weeks of vacation at full pay. Don’t miss it. By the way, enjoy tarping in the high winds, in the cold weather, the rain and the snow, and all the other elements as you do this for free.

I sure would like one of those 2023 Peterbilt that have a brake fluid reservoir within the airbrake system. I think in this case he made a mistake he didn’t mean to say brake fluid. He meant to say blinker fluid. It’s accidentally, the new Peterbilt have an automatic lighting system check that goes through a sequence so that you can check all the lighting. The only one it does not check is the reverse lights in that case you must turn the key on and put the transmission in reverse. Remember to shut the truck off while it is still in reverse. With these automatics, you never know you might have to have somebody come behind you with your foot on the brake and your truck in reverse to check your reverse lights. He must’ve walked around that truck about five times. Boy that’s gonna be hard to prove to DOT that you did that pre-trip in 15 minutes. That’s more like a half hour. Since they don’t install trolley brakes anymore, you can’t check your brake lights unless you got somebody that can look behind your truck. By the way, the 15 minute pre-trip logging was started by trucking companies because the old paper log had 15 minute increments in the logbook. By today’s standards, you just do your pre-trip after you go on duty and whatever the log records, that is your time. Come to think of it, that is your time for everything. Fueling, tarp installation, bumping the docks, pre-trip, post trip, etc. I’ve yet to see a flatbedder completely tarp a load in 30 minutes or less. Average is about one and a half to two hours.
