haha I'll unintentionally send you on the wrong route. that's awesome that you got into trucking because of me. it's crazy how I inspire people to get into this job. hopefully you enjoy it. just remember to have ALOT of patience when driving a semi. also a tip my instructor gave me that I still use to this day was when you're approaching an onramp (your gps will show you an upcoming onramp long before your eyes can see it) look at the intersection on top of the hill as you approach. if a car turns right to merge onto the highway as you approach be aware. my instructor said if it looks close he moves over. those couple extra seconds of recognizing cars merging onto the highway really help in terms of braking early/moving over into the left lane.

I’m a rookie driver and man it’s tough, good days and bad days. Today I delivered at the convention center in Chicago. Was there from 5am to 3pm.. backing was tough but got a spotter and got it in..
Alex, thank you for being so diligent about wearing gloves. I work at a depot driving an EPJ. A load lock bar latch gave me a tiny pinch and cut at the base of my left thumb. There was a rediculous amount of blood from that nick. That required a complete hour of paper work and phone calls. NOW I wear my gloves when working with load locks. Your example reminds me daily. Thank you.
Honestly I never thought about from a safety perspective but that's a good point. I just didn't want to get dirt on my hands from opening the trailer doors, strapping, etc and bringing that dirt inside my truck from touching everything. I like to keep my truck clean.

or at least get those hvy padded both palm and back good rubber leather combo truckef gloves.. to protect yur bones skin knuckles hands fingers. get takoff and rings ! I learned that lesson the hard way unloading beer barrels in 2017 to local stadium I worked at...didnt realise the injury till two drops later when I saw the blood pouring from my middle finger....lesson well learnt lol

My uncle had a massive heart attack in the middle of the night Sun/Mon sometime we found him in his truck in bed. He was the one who sent you $50 and asked for nothing back. That's the way he was,I'm a 21 year old rookie who just had his company thrown on me. He liked you and he told me that, 37 1/2 years he was a trucker. I have 6 months experience. I'm a newbie for sure but Alex, he even laughed at your jokes. He had premium memberships to support you in his own way. @@LP-bt4jkDepends what you want to do. Trucking is a very broad field. There is Food Services like what this guy is doing, Freight, Delivery, in the oilfield sector there is: Fracking, Well Services, Septic Services, Fuel Hauling, Drilling Rigs…it’s up to you
Three hours? That's when I would do my paperwork and possibly take a nap. At times if I didn't feel sleepy I'd just rack out and try to relax and the next thing I know a knock on the door is waking me. I'm medically retired now but if you count my time on active duty I have over 30 years experience in 3 different countries. Try to eat properly, get some movement even if it's just walking and sleep whenever you can. Don't one be one of those I'd see sitting in the seat on their computer or phone and still be there 6 plus hours later when I wake up. And then they'd leave out before me and I'd catch up to them trying to stay awake while weaving down the road. That's dangerous. Be safe and don't forget to stop sometimes and smell the roses.
I've had to drive into downtown Chicago plenty of times, especially to rail yards to pick-up/drop-off trailers. It isn't for the faint of heart. Used to drop/hook doubles quite often at the various 'Globalx' rail yards (Global 1, Global2, Global3, etc). Drivers at the company I worked for (which doesn't even exit anymore) drove triples as well so we had to go to various drop-yards in Indiana or Ohio as it is legal in those (and many others out west) to drive triples. It's scary with 53' trailers so I don't blame you not wanting to go there. Very tight turns and sometimes you run into one that is literally impossible to execute a 90 degree turn. Like anything else it's not bad if you plan a route ahead of time and include multiple sub-routes in case roads are closed, etc. I mapped-out every route possible from the highway exit I was planning on using.

Hey Alex, we've decided to honor my uncle by banning our personal cars Sunday for a graveside service and we're wearing our uniforms and bringing our trucks. In the last year I lost my mom to cancer and now this, but much like my uncle I'm no quitter never have been never will be and I'm going to send a gift to you like my uncle did I swear it.
speaking from experience, Swift would most definitely still hit something. I use to work for a company that aided trucking companies with pepsi and coke spills in the back of their trailers......I've seen some really bad drivers, cough swift cough, and some really good drivers.
Just yesterday I decided I wanna become a trucker I'm pretty nervous about learning how to drive the trucks backing up seems like a nightmare. I'd hate to spend 5-7grand going to CDL school just to fail but I feel that's a bad mindset to have. But if I can get past learning how to drive these I don't think the life style would be an issue at all for me. I'd just buy a gaming laptop then bam I'm setup on entertainment during down time. I don't know right now I'm feeling pretty excited about the whole thing.
I'm sort of the opposite to you at least partly. I'm not so worried about the actual driving and parking of the truck because I know that just takes lots of time and practice. I'm a bit indifferent about the lifestyle change. I am an introvert and I feel like I will be fine being alone for a long time, but the actual living part of being on the road is what concerns me. Eating, sleeping, showering, shitting etc etc and also truckstops scare me lol. I've been driving class B locally for about 3 years and I want to try the big rigs but man some days I just psych myself out of wanting to do it.
@@brody8857I'm similar. I'm hesitant about the lifestyle and safety, also driving for long periods of time. I'm an introvert too, but I worry being alone for too long will be bad for my mental health. I do like trucks though, I think they're pretty cool.

Question for all the truckers, I know trucking isn’t easy and it’s mentally challenging cause of the long distance from family but was the time trucking worth it in the end? I’m thinking about getting my CDL
I was looking at CDL requirements for Texas, in order to take the driving test you have to provide your own commercial vehicle??? Is this why most people use driving schools?
Been thinking of a career change recently, and trucking has been at the top of my mind. I love driving, I love being able to be alone with my thoughts for a while, and it just seems like it would be a great choice. Saying that, I don't mean to be like "oh it's going to be so easy, everything is going to smell like roses". I know nothing is that easy, and I honestly don't know enough about it (have never driven something so large) to be able to really make the call. I'm also 31 and have no experience even driving a manual transmission vehicle; would these be too big of a barrier to entry?

Ur truck looks spotless from inside and out I am 37 yo and never made over $700 a week. I know there is good pay to be made for trucking if you put the work in. I currently am working at a tire shop has its pros and cons. I could walk off that job tomorrw for all I know def not a dream job. A business owner I worked next to got into trucking last year him and his brother I’ve always thot it is something for me the deliveries the driving the no co worker drama no micromanagement the traveling across the states heck even make some good paychecks the cons is prolly the long days and not in same place all the time so that would be smt have to adapt to anyway just checking your channel out Keep doing you and I’ll be praying for you! I have a question about truck driving jobs like these, is it true that a lot of drivers live in their semis? And also, I see a lot of videos where truck drivers are allowed to decorate and customize and make their trucks comfortable to their needs, is this common or uncommon?
Why not use hiking straw system water pouch where straw around truck driver’s mouth and neck, move head or just mouth to suck on straw to drink water reduce road accidents, max productivity which in turn max profits and salary increase?
Just literally started watching your first video. Honest question? Why do you shut down at 3pm every day? That means you leave out at 1am? Why? I run 6am to 7pm every day, and I’m able to make all delivery and pickup appts, no problem. Really confused as to why Love’s is filled up by 3pm every day🙄
3 hours to unload????? I live in the Netherlands. A truckdriver myself. The Netherlands is one of the few countries in the so called West that still has the truckdriver unload his own cargo. In countries like Belgium or Germany this wont happen. (or at least not everywhere. Exceptions are there) There are many Dutch drivers who would say that we are mistreated, and we should go with what they do in the other countries. BUT: I am VERY happy that i am able and allowed to unload myself in most cases. IF the dock is empty, half an hour for to unload pallets or whatever. Get your papers, and off you go. 3 hours to be unloading a single trailer, that is just absurd. And sure, some drivers will say: Every hour is paid for, but ey...... i wanna have some time to actually spend the money. PLUS: Since when were we born to work all day long, 24/7/365? Who do we actually enrich by doing that? Ourselves? Is that the freedom we live for? Just imagine this: My grandfather was the last of a generation of people who were able to provide for a huge family on a single salary. He could feed 9 children with his single salary. And now a days 2 people have to work to provide food on the table for 1.3 children at max. Go figure. Luckily we sell the home grown stuff to foreign countries. And we import the same stuff, but less quality, from those countries. And that is how money circulates. 3 hours to unload. In that time i could have supplied 3 more stores with their groceries and what not. And this company? What does it get? What are you unloading? Howmany pallets, or dollies, containers, what ever? 3 hours? Them guys on the lifttrucks are noobs or what? They need to check every nail in the pallet, to see if it is still fully attached? Do they need to count the boxes on each pallet? Or perhaps count the stuff inside every box on every pallet? Sweet Lord, what a bunch of nonsense. We give em the papers. We unload. Labels to one side. Scanner. Beep beep beep beep beep. Everything got beeped? Good. Stamp, signature or just an X, and off we go again. You really have to have a certain way of thinking to be able to cope with it. I would not be able to. The longest i was stationary, waiting to be unloaded and loaded again, was 5 hours. Then i called the company and told em: Listen: I waited for 5 hours. They have just unloaded me half an hour ago. I am still waiting for them to load me. But, my time is up. Either they load me within 15 minutes or i am gone. They contacted eachother, i dunno what was said. 15 minutes passed. I pulled forwards while they just opened up the door. I walked to the end of the trailer, greeted them, closed the doors, and went. The one thing i said before leaving was: 15 minutes are up. 5 hours and 15 minutes waiting for to be unloaded and loaded again is enough. Bye, have a nice day. (and in my mind i obviously thought: Suck it.)
i am a human being as well. They can order another truck when the load is ready. Why should i have to sit there for 5 hours waiting to be loaded if the company is 1 hour away? They can call 1 hour before the load is finished to have a truck pick it up. Ridiculous to have a human being sit on his arse in the middle of nowhere, where you cant even get any food or anything like it, having to pay for coffee inside the company you are at. So, the big middle finger to em ridiculous tie wearing parasites who live in their office thinking that we drivers are just a bunch of maggots.
@@gaeulsnb hence why it is always nice to have your own ept and a loadlift on the back of the trailer. If i had to sit that long, i would have dropped the pallet outside and they can do what ever they want with it. They will sign, and if not, i will put it back in and take it with me back to the place where it came from. And they can then call again for it to be delivered. We aint stupidoos and i care not for the client if they dont care for the drivers. If the warehouse has multiple docks, they can simply use 1 for drivers who only need to deliver 1 pallet. And depending on the size of the warehouse and the amount of truckers coming daily, you can adjust it to the needs. But, what they often do, here in the Netherlands as well, is designate every dock to which ever driver comes first. And so there is almost never a space available because most come with full trucks to unload. There is no way in living hell that i will be waiting in line if that is the case. Unless i am the very next one in line. Max waiting time i have ever done was 5 hours, and that was once and NEVER again. After the 5 hours it was: close doors, arriverdechi.

Freightshaker FTW. My buddy is a long haul flatbed driver and the company just replaced his 2019 Cascadia with a 2023. New truck about every 3 1/2 - 4 years. Too many people think driving is easy but I have ridden along with him several times and it's not. Not to mention getting ripped off with truck stop prices.

wasn't me driving through Missouri but yeah while we're parked at a dock at a warehouse we can take a nap, eat, relax, etc. it's like a short break from driving

Alex if you stop at a truck stop for the night, why don't you fill with fuel before you go off duty. I prefer to do get that stuff done before bed. But it's just my preference
Some large corporate trucking companies will only allow you to fill up at either predesignated locations or at pre designated times. He may have restrictions or limits like that from the company he works for That would be my guess anyway.

speaking from experience, Swift would most definitely still hit something. I use to work for a company that aided trucking companies with pepsi and coke spills in the back of their trailers......I've seen some really bad drivers, cough swift cough, and some really good drivers.
That place you were at in Grand Forks ND was simplot, a French fry, tater tots, etc potato factory. I live in Fargo. I know that area well.
Just yesterday I decided I wanna become a trucker I'm pretty nervous about learning how to drive the trucks backing up seems like a nightmare.
I'd hate to spend 5-7grand going to CDL school just to fail but I feel that's a bad mindset to have. But if I can get past learning how to drive these I don't think the life style would be an issue at all for me. I'd just buy a gaming laptop then bam I'm setup on entertainment during down time.
I don't know right now I'm feeling pretty excited about the whole thing.

I'm sort of the opposite to you at least partly. I'm not so worried about the actual driving and parking of the truck because I know that just takes lots of time and practice. I'm a bit indifferent about the lifestyle change. I am an introvert and I feel like I will be fine being alone for a long time, but the actual living part of being on the road is what concerns me. Eating, sleeping, showering, shitting etc etc and also truckstops scare me lol. I've been driving class B locally for about 3 years and I want to try the big rigs but man some days I just psych myself out of wanting to do it.
@@brody8857I'm similar. I'm hesitant about the lifestyle and safety, also driving for long periods of time. I'm an introvert too, but I worry being alone for too long will be bad for my mental health. I do like trucks though, I think they're pretty cool.
That much weight I usually always put it in the 10/11 hole, I use holes in the steps on driver side door as my marker for sliding tandems

Question for all the truckers, I know trucking isn’t easy and it’s mentally challenging cause of the long distance from family but was the time trucking worth it in the end? I’m thinking about getting my CDL
The CDL is worth it. But being away from family is hard. Consider a local route bringing you home every day.

3 hrs to unload is insane. I've unloaded a truck in 20 minutes with my forklift. I guess it depends on where you are and their process.
I was looking at CDL requirements for Texas, in order to take the driving test you have to provide your own commercial vehicle??? Is this why most people use driving schools?
Been thinking of a career change recently, and trucking has been at the top of my mind. I love driving, I love being able to be alone with my thoughts for a while, and it just seems like it would be a great choice. Saying that, I don't mean to be like "oh it's going to be so easy, everything is going to smell like roses". I know nothing is that easy, and I honestly don't know enough about it (have never driven something so large) to be able to really make the call. I'm also 31 and have no experience even driving a manual transmission vehicle; would these be too big of a barrier to entry?

What’s your opinion on flat bed are they easier to drive than a dry van truck?
You should be able to go around 500 miles on that half of a tank lol wayyy more than 200......even with smaller tanks which is what you probably have.

I am 37 yo and never made over $700 a week. I know there is good pay to be made for trucking if you put the work in. I currently am working at a tire shop has its pros and cons. I could walk off that job tomorrw for all I know def not a dream job.

I’ve always thot it is something for me the deliveries the driving the no co worker drama no micromanagement the traveling across the states heck even make some good paychecks the cons is prolly the long days and not in same place all the time so that would be smt have to adapt to anyway just checking your channel out

I have a question about truck driving jobs like these, is it true that a lot of drivers live in their semis? And also, I see a lot of videos where truck drivers are allowed to decorate and customize and make their trucks comfortable to their needs, is this common or uncommon?
Why not use hiking straw system water pouch where straw around truck driver’s mouth and neck, move head or just mouth to suck on straw to drink water reduce road accidents, max productivity which in turn max profits and salary increase?

Just literally started watching your first video. Honest question? Why do you shut down at 3pm every day? That means you leave out at 1am? Why? I run 6am to 7pm every day, and I’m able to make all delivery and pickup appts, no problem. Really confused as to why Love’s is filled up by 3pm every day🙄

I live in the Netherlands. A truckdriver myself.
The Netherlands is one of the few countries in the so called West that still has the truckdriver unload his own cargo.
In countries like Belgium or Germany this wont happen. (or at least not everywhere. Exceptions are there)
There are many Dutch drivers who would say that we are mistreated, and we should go with what they do in the other countries.
BUT:
I am VERY happy that i am able and allowed to unload myself in most cases.
IF the dock is empty, half an hour for to unload pallets or whatever.
Get your papers, and off you go.
3 hours to be unloading a single trailer, that is just absurd.
And sure, some drivers will say: Every hour is paid for, but ey...... i wanna have some time to actually spend the money.
PLUS: Since when were we born to work all day long, 24/7/365?
Who do we actually enrich by doing that? Ourselves?
Is that the freedom we live for?
Just imagine this: My grandfather was the last of a generation of people who were able to provide for a huge family on a single salary.
He could feed 9 children with his single salary.
And now a days 2 people have to work to provide food on the table for 1.3 children at max.
Go figure.
Luckily we sell the home grown stuff to foreign countries. And we import the same stuff, but less quality, from those countries.
And that is how money circulates.
3 hours to unload. In that time i could have supplied 3 more stores with their groceries and what not.
And this company? What does it get? What are you unloading?
Howmany pallets, or dollies, containers, what ever?

They need to check every nail in the pallet, to see if it is still fully attached?
Do they need to count the boxes on each pallet?
Or perhaps count the stuff inside every box on every pallet?

You really have to have a certain way of thinking to be able to cope with it.
I would not be able to.
The longest i was stationary, waiting to be unloaded and loaded again, was 5 hours. Then i called the company and told em: Listen: I waited for 5 hours. They have just unloaded me half an hour ago. I am still waiting for them to load me. But, my time is up. Either they load me within 15 minutes or i am gone.
They contacted eachother, i dunno what was said. 15 minutes passed. I pulled forwards while they just opened up the door.
I walked to the end of the trailer, greeted them, closed the doors, and went.
The one thing i said before leaving was: 15 minutes are up. 5 hours and 15 minutes waiting for to be unloaded and loaded again is enough.

i am a human being as well. They can order another truck when the load is ready.
Why should i have to sit there for 5 hours waiting to be loaded if the company is 1 hour away?
They can call 1 hour before the load is finished to have a truck pick it up.
Ridiculous to have a human being sit on his arse in the middle of nowhere, where you cant even get any food or anything like it, having to pay for coffee inside the company you are at.
So, the big middle finger to em ridiculous tie wearing parasites who live in their office thinking that we drivers are just a bunch of maggots.

If i had to sit that long, i would have dropped the pallet outside and they can do what ever they want with it.
They will sign, and if not, i will put it back in and take it with me back to the place where it came from.
And they can then call again for it to be delivered.
We aint stupidoos and i care not for the client if they dont care for the drivers.
If the warehouse has multiple docks, they can simply use 1 for drivers who only need to deliver 1 pallet.
And depending on the size of the warehouse and the amount of truckers coming daily, you can adjust it to the needs.
But, what they often do, here in the Netherlands as well, is designate every dock to which ever driver comes first.
And so there is almost never a space available because most come with full trucks to unload.
There is no way in living hell that i will be waiting in line if that is the case. Unless i am the very next one in line.
Max waiting time i have ever done was 5 hours, and that was once and NEVER again.
After the 5 hours it was: close doors, arriverdechi.

but if you need to wait 7 hours for 1 pallet to be unloaded, it shows they dont need it, so why should i wait for them????

Take a permanent marker and number your tandem holes so you don't have to work hard.
Freightshaker FTW. My buddy is a long haul flatbed driver and the company just replaced his 2019 Cascadia with a 2023. New truck about every 3 1/2 - 4 years. Too many people think driving is easy but I have ridden along with him several times and it's not. Not to mention getting ripped off with truck stop prices.

wasn't me driving through Missouri but yeah while we're parked at a dock at a warehouse we can take a nap, eat, relax, etc. it's like a short break from driving

Alex if you stop at a truck stop for the night, why don't you fill with fuel before you go off duty. I prefer to do get that stuff done before bed. But it's just my preference
Some large corporate trucking companies will only allow you to fill up at either predesignated locations or at pre designated times. He may have restrictions or limits like that from the company he works for That would be my guess anyway.

By sliding the trailer tandems forward, you will put more weight on the trailer tandems and take weight off the tractor's drive axles. Conversely, by sliding the trailer tandems toward the rear of the trailer, you will take weight off the trailer tandems and put more weight onto the tractor's drive axles.
