    It's actually 5 years 225 million he only gets the extra 45 million if he wins either mvp dpoy or all nba honors next season NOT all star or anything else. So the contract is actually pretty reasonable considering he gets the extra bags if he is either considered a top defensive player in the league a consensus BEST player in the league or gets a spot on one of the 3 all nba teams basically saying he's one of the best 15 players in the league. But it has to be next year or the contract is 5 years 225.

    There's a few things you have to remember about Scottie's 2nd season, he started off playing well, got hurt early on, and played through a lot of it.
    Nick Nurse was the coach, and he prioritized Fred and Pascal.
    Fred turned down an extension offer leading into training camp, and was in a contract year. So he kind of hijacked the offense.
    So, Scottie was the one to suffer, even though he was the best player (not by stat).

    You do bring up a good point that waiting for next year to play out especially with the new core of Quickley and Barrett along with coach Darko would be the safest bet to make sure this version of Scottie is THE version of Scottie the Raptors are gonna get I also do believe Scottie is worth the contract based on what he’s shown so far and knowing that contracts in the NBA will only be getting bigger and bigger this contract won’t seem that bad in comparison

    Max contracts don't really work like that you need to be a top 15 player to get one.
    NBA environment is such, that you'll pretty much are quaranteed to get one as a teams star player, regardless if you're even top 30 player or not.

  • @dan61909

    Scottie will be a top 5 player in thr league by the time his contract expires.. he really has no ceiling

  • @blablablaa14
    @blablablaa14 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    The problem with Scottie is that he isn't a number 1 on a title team. Banchero and Tatum are both way above him as players and they aren't even in the top 5 players. I feel like Toronto will hold on to him the same way Washington held Beal. For no reason and no success

    • @ScuffTuff
      @ScuffTuff 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Comparing a guy still on his rookie contract to Tatum is such a weird thing to do. Even then, it took Tatum 4 other all star level guys to get the job done. As for Banchero, he hasn’t even made it out of the first round and has only made the playoffs once. Scottie is more than good enough to be on a championship team although I do think his versatility and skill set are better suited to be the second scoring option. We need a better scorer alongside him but I’m still comfortable paying him a max. The team just needs time to develop and a couple more tweaks but Scottie definitely belongs there

    • @blablablaa14
      @blablablaa14 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ScuffTuff Its not about the two guys I mentioned. Those guys aren't really title guys either. Tatum won because his GM had a major coup of genius that worked to carry him to a title. Paolo can't be a number 1 on a title team either. Both of them are better than Scottie. 9 out of 10 times you need a top 5 guy, if the guy you sign to a max is not a top 5 guy. You basically are doomed to lose to teams that have that guy or close to that guy. At best Scottie will be a top 15 player, he wont be top 10. So they better either get a top 5 guy near term before Scottie gets his next even bigger max, or they better sell off Scottie, for more future value. I think they can get 5 first round picks now, but once he's 26 and on this much bigger deal he's worth 3. To me this raptors build is already doomed for mediocrity at best

    • @JohnDoe-230
      @JohnDoe-230 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No champion has repeated in like 6 seasons. You don't really want to bet on one player just 2 players. You need a well built roster Boston championship is a good example or the raptors 2019 team it had a couple former and up comeing all stars

  • @SonnyK248
    @SonnyK248 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think he'd have to make an All NBA team to get the supermax. Even so though it makes me nervous as an OKC fan knowing rookies can get this high of an extension. We have J Dub and Chet's to re sig next year 😬

  • @johndebono1870
    @johndebono1870 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    As a Raptors fan, I'm fine with giving Barnes that extension. Given that Toronto isn't a team that has never been able to secure top free agents and how the Siakim/VanFleet relationships soured, Masai doesn't have the luxury to screw around with player relationships. On top of that, while Barnes isn't a LeBron or Luka slam-dunk, I think he is in the SGA tier of "Has all the tools to be a superstar" and the Raptors front office betting on their ability to put a team together that will maximize Barnes' potential is a decent one.

    I think Scottie is a fantastic player and a key part of the franchise but I do have one major concern. Under the new CBA, I expect teams will only be able to pay up to 2 max contract players long-term and the rest of the team will have to be smaller contracts. I think this is good cause it’ll mean more opportunities for role players and it’ll help spread talent around the league, especially after expansion. The issue is this means we need the perfect partner to go with him and especially, I don’t believe Scottie can be a number 1 guy. I think he’ll be a top 20 player and easily a great number 2 though. There’s very few players in the league who I think are perfect fits as a duo with him though. I like Shaedon Sharpe as a potential option but I think the main two are Tyrese Maxey and Cade Cunningham. There is quite literally zero chance we get either anytime soon though.

    Probably the right move. Especially if you think he'll make more improvements. Tough to keep star players in Toronto?
    Would maybe have liked to see increase in production and efficiency before giving him the extension. But, perhaps their is a cost to such a ploy, similar to what happened with Brunson?
    As such if you think he'll continue to improve. The deal seems smart.

    Scottie Barnes bag is severely limited. This is what happens when you are forced to sign a player because you can’t afford for them to leave (ex: Otto Porter WAS max contract). This will turn out to be a bad contract, unless he drastically improves.

    @aaronpeters6209 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Rather replace Barrett with a better scoring option. Maybe save Jerami Grant from Portland?
    Plus, I'd want to trade Poeltl & position my franchise for 5 out play the league is almost certainly heading towards. I think small market teams would be wise to try and replicate Boston in this regard. Especially since it's generally more difficult to attract superstar free agents to less appealing markets.

  • @danleblanc9146
    @danleblanc9146 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I think you aren't weighing his second year properly. I blame Nurse mostly for the dip. He used Barnes to prop up the second unit as a sophomore and it tanked his numbers. Either way Toronto lives or dies with Scottie Barnes.

    As a Raptors fan I was curious what this video was about. Turns out not much. Easily worth the money. They made it clear when they wouldn't include Scottie in a Durant trade that he was the future.
    They could wait but then the money will only continue to rise, especially with a new TV deal on the horizon. If any of the new players don't fit with Scottie you move them not the star of the team so no reason not to give the deal now.
