Sometimes we need to understand we have to give some of these players a little extra to play here. We have some of the highest taxes out of most NBA cities and you’re asking some young player to leave his country to go to another country and live. This is why soccer players get paid ridiculous amounts of money. Look Rolando is playing all the way in the Middle East but they have to pay for that. We have almost always overpaid guys to stay here. This isn’t Miami, LA, NYC or some basketball Mecca with crazy history where guys have dreams of playing. Sometimes you’re asking some guy from Alabama or somewhere to move to Toronto Canada where almost everything is different. Some people here think you can always draw these guys with “caribana” an American person might be totally coulees and loss to Caribbean culture.

GTJ will help a contending team, but he is a bench player, a gunner off the bench - and when you are asking for 25+ a year, there are cheaper options, like rookie contracted players who can come off the bench and hit 3's with a lot less money. But he'll get paid somewhere, probably a lower middle pack team who has the cap money and hope to make the play-offs. .
Gray hates playing on the bench, He will act professional and do it and not make a big deal but you can tell he plays better as a starter, Not saying he's a starter player or not but that's what he prefers

@@rulz2663 are u kidding ? Who is the top 5 off the bench?
I like his play and he fits team and SB. His Def needs to be better. 5 at $150 mil would have been fair. This is over pay.
This number tells me other teams have made it clear to IQ's agent that they would have a max offer sheet on day one of free agency.
I am happy that IQ got himself paid and Raptors fans should be excited { 100% NYK fan and will always support our own]
Excellent contract for Manny. Take care of our guy
Now the roll of the dice on Vezenkov becomes more important imo. If Darko can tap into his potential then these last 2 days really could change the franchise Outlook.
They need to find lower priced value somewhere. Lol
To everyone saying this is an overpay: what if someone offered quik 40 a year and he walked?! There was no other option, now we have our core for the next 3-5 years
now he needs to keep hustling, to make this team going
why don't they let him get offers and then beat the offer he is an RFA, you can get him for less if his top offer is $20M
that is probably what happened. he did get offers and toronto had to match.
@@mogwai_for_sale pretty sure offers are public information and I did not hear of any.
The Gary/Beal analogy is truth. They were both getting paid too much and they were both untradable.
35mil is the new 20mil. It should be a good contract in years 3-5.
This team is gonna shock people next year. 1 through 15, theyre more talented.
Overpay ..but if they had to do it , oh well let’s go. I love his game him and Barnes are exciting to watch .
This is just what the NBA is now. Any starter after the rookie contract starts at 25 mil a year
A liitle expensive, but 5 yr locked with scottie, at least we have a stable high potential young core
Should’ve honestly tried to resign OG or Pascal if you were going to pay this much anyways. Im rooting for Quickley but currently he is a poor mans Maxey and not proven at all.
Hopefully he improves but at least we don’t lose him for nothing . At best he improves and earns that money , at worst we can trade him eventually.
Pascal would be good for Gary or Grady. I want to have imo Gary for Pascal.
Maxey going to sign similar to Scottie 5/225/270mill so not too bad for Quickley.
We will be laughing at this signing when the core 3 keep building the chemistry together Mitchell as the shut down guy and the raps may be better then we think the youth movement has begun and it could be very bright
Happy for Quickley
Wait so with the news rules and stuff about the nba and contract are we like in the salary cap hold or we good?
I don't understand why are we paying these players but couldn't pay vanvleet siakam and og
How do y’all feel about resigning Nwora? I think giving him a 2-3 year deal for close to minimum is a no-brainer deal, but perhaps not?
@@mitch3DG he played good last year so signing back to a minimum contract would be nice . I “think” though we are over the maximum amount of players
@@BuddyTerrifico I read somewhere that Sasha wants to return to Europe so if he leaves I hope we sign Nwora for a like for like position.
Is Sasha even going to play for us? He is back home in Bulgaria and reported to the kings that he was not returning.
Like the knicks and OG... we had to. Overpay? Hopefully we dont think so in 2-3 yeats
huh? are people not paying attention, this contract is completely reasonable, I expected at least 30M
I hope we can somehow keep Trent man, at the very least to flip him in the future. If that means letting Brown walk then so be it cuz clearly his value isn't that high.
Given the choice, would rather play Quickley that than Trent
We should have kept Siakam and Barnes together along with RJ and IQ
Are you willing to be near that luxury tax to get OG? I am 😂
I think two more two-way forwards would be awesome. Especially if people are dead set on losing Jakob for some reason
IQ now makes more than Jalen Brunson.. let that sink in. Guarantee you won't here ESPN talking about how the Raptors overpaid. 😂
Both nyc and the raps overpaid on the two players ...but wtv good for them and us
Inflation: in 5 years that 35 is worth 20 in today's money
When the new broadcast numbers come out this contract will look like a steal. NBA money has gotten crazy stupid.
Those contracts are insane. As part of the audience I refuse to be part of those paying highway robbery tickets. Really to the normal person it`s an insult and sports are out of control with pay.
25Mil player MAX to me. Overpay.
1st Scottie. No Quickley. When is Barnes contract up? RJ is locked in through the 2026-27 at $29.6 M. This is good. RJ will need a raise then. Quickley is way better than FVV. No comparison. He's faster and younger gives 100% effort 100% of the time.
Now I can see Raptors finally have some direction
Play in torunament?
@@Edd_LShore I mean that's probably the goal. But with all the young core etc its pretty unpredictable.
@@juzweytnc And why are the Raptors overpaying a point guard just fight for a play in position just to get eviscerated in tje first round? Barrett and Quickley are going to be the 2 and 3 of Scottie Barnes?
Thats just a mid team at best
@@Edd_LShore dude I just tell what I see. Clearly, I can't give you the answer about why the Raptors decided to make IQ and Barrett as their main 3. They have reasons. 🤷♂️
@@juzweytnc lol. Its fine. Of course you cant say. Masai fumbled the bag. Thats the reason.
This is crazy, love Quickley but this too much money
The league has gone mad 😂 35 mill for Quickley is madness. Luka made 40 this year bearing in mind he was the first ever rookie to sign a supermax contract so that was an unprecedented deal when it happened and that started, wait for it... last season 🤦♂
ya this is a joke, its making me not even want to watch these filthy rich ball players.. who even cares about winnign when you are making 35 million a year lol id just retire after one season
@@chadwellington2524 I mean I guess the incentive would be in five years when this contract expires some dummy will offer him a new contract worth 80 mill a year the way it’s going 🤦♂️😂
In Masai we trust...I guess. Our core group of guys failed miserably while healthy and now we are throwing money at them. We were gaslit last summer with expectations that everyone had a great summer and were going to level up. Well the opposite happened, and I'm not drinking the Koolaid twice. This time I'm going into the season with rock bottom expectations so I'm not devastated with disappointment like this past season. So far, with all the new faces, I expect 35-40 wins with an outside chance that at making the play-in. We've seen a pile of players shit the bed after getting the bag. I'm interested in seeing if that will be the case again for our players who got paid. I'm elated that we finally got rid of Jalen McDaniels. If history is a teacher, watch him have the best season of his life now that we've traded him. 🤪
raptors literally over pay everyone... poetl, quickly, trent, khem birch
that's how we keep those player in north
Nobody is playing here without getting paid. This isn’t some nba Mecca. We’re in another country expecting young men to leave their country and come here for the same money as a American cities that have less taxes than we have. If I was in their shoes I would ask for bigger bag to.
Les goooo
For everyone who said it is an overpay for Quickley, no one including me knows what the NBA market is. Hopefully, IQ improve and earn that money.
Hes 25 and already a great shooter.
He aint improving
@@Edd_LShore Wow, that one-dimensional thinking.
@@patrickwong4824 Hes not Steph Curry. His dribbling would remain the same. He would struggle with mid range shots cause he cant get open, he would have average efficiency at best...
But he would be a great shooter. And would see if his shot creation with his low usage is real or not, because hes kind of good at that.
But skill wise, there is nowhere to go. This is the player he is. Thinking different is magical thinking. Dumb
PASCAL wanted not just 5-6 more than this number. He wanted a MAX 50+
he is all star of course understandable he commanded max contract. that is how things work teams have to pay for proven talents
Isn't Gary only still on the team because he opted in to a player option which was an overpay at the time? I wish him well but why are we pretending he could be coming back?
LOL. Monk got 20 a year and you got a similar player for 35?!
Masai is the best lol. Would he make something well besides getting lucky because the Spurs didnt want to tank and took DeRozan for Kawhi?
Masai became GM in 2013 and the Raptors had the 2nd most wins in the NBA across 10 seasons (2013/14-2022/23)
@@Ballin-97 Yeah. He was really good for years.
But something happened and once he had to trade his players and rebuild he just SUCKED out nowhere.
He didnt trade Lowry whrn he shouldve. Van Vleet. And waited one year too long and got way less than he should for Siakam and OG.
Just a disaster. If he bottoms out when he had to, maybe you have Scottie Barnes and Wemby. Now you have. 2 bench players starting as 2 of the "big 3" and then veterans that would help you get... the 8 seed and lose the 1st r AT BEST
@@Edd_LShore there’s a human component to managing players that many fans don’t want to acknowledge. It’s not as simple as trading players at their max trade market value. But don’t give me this crap of “maybe you have Wemby”, such delusion comparing Masai to hypothetical fantasies determined by extremely low odds lottery luck. Let the rebuild play out first before crying it’s a disaster
@@Ballin-97 Whatever. He would be on rebuild mode with better draft picks. And what "emotion"? He traded the greatest Toronto Raptor of all time for freaks sake.
His last two years has been atrocious.
@@Edd_LShore yeah he traded Demar cold blooded (it worked) so you think he should “‘be been even more ruthless with Lowry, Siakam, VanVleet and OG? If anything he had to be more patient to make up for Demar. You can’t have a rep as a cold blooded GM, players won’t want to sign or re-sign with the team.
And tell me what other teams have better GMs that won a championship with the franchise and are still experiencing a ton of success without any rebuilding period. So disingenuous comparing Masai to fantasies
Maybe Masai is planning to leave soon,Smh, this is crazy....scratching my head
Why lose GTJ for nothing?
@@Tdzzz450 hopefully we can get him on a team friendly deal or do a sign and trade . We’ll find out today or tonight 😬
with sasha vezenkov and davion mitchell contracts of around 12 million, it eats up gary trents money to sign him. sasha vezenkov and grady dick can replace garys production at a cheaper price combined than what gary trent jr is asking for which is 17-20 million a year for 4 years.
@@giovanni-ed7zqit’s the truth..
@@giovanni-ed7zq Sasha leaving for Europe, so GTJ back on the table?
@@Tdzzz450 you have to look at it this way, there is reports that came out saying vezenkov is under contract this season and has a team option the year after so he cant just leave.
in addition with vezenkov the raptors only had 13.3 million. even without him they have 19 million. they still have to sign walter, mogbo, shead and chomche to contracts and also they have to pick up javon freeman libertys partial guarantee, so they dont have the money to sign gary regardless.
raptors dont have the 18-23 million a year for 4 years that gary wants before going into luxury tax.
Can't believe anyone would pay gtj 20 million for no defense ans 14 points a game
lol. 20m a year now going rate for average player. gtj could get that much once bissddibng war started
Paying them the bag is not going to make them play better
