  • Passed in 2013, SB 743 completely changed the way California looked at transportation in its environmental process. For California Environmental Impact Reports, Level of Service (LOS) was the standard metric being used. SB 743 required a new metric to take its place. I talk about California's environmental process, why this change happened, and what it could mean for driving.

This is just another piece of the puzzle that contributes to the housing shortage and high cost of housing, and the homeless crisis. We're in a situation where you can't build up and you can't build out.

This is incredible! I was just reading about how the LOS was an ineffective way of calculating how successful a street was (if it’s bad for cars doesn’t mean it’s bad for the retail located on them or pedestrians). Thank for introducing me to VMT!

Cool video! could you maybe do a video where you talk about the applicability of the things NotJustBikes/StrongTowns talk about in many of their videos? And whether you envision these things being possible with this new SB 743 thing?

Hi! Thank you. Possibly, the SB 743 law is still very new, so it will take some time to really know how much it will move the needle. I definitely can incorporate more NJB/StrongTowns type topics in the future. Let me know if there is anything specific from them that you may want to see discussed on this channel. I can't always make videos upon request, but I'll definitely consider it :)
