FOODS I AVOID FOR MIGRAINES // My Dietary Restrictions & How I Figured Them Out

  • Did you know foods can be a migraine headache trigger? There are several foods I avoid for migraines, beyond the typical foods to avoid for migraine based on the "heal your headache" diet! I have had migraine relief from identifying food intolerances. Here are some of my food sensitivities and how I figured them out. I found most of my food allergies without a strict elimination diet.

While this video does go over the main things I avoid, it is not exhaustive. There are other things I didn't mention that can be migraine triggers and are likely triggers for me, like histamine, tyramine, and other preservatives. I omitted these because I just haven't figured them out 100% yet. I sometimes feel icky after meats like pepperoni and pastrami, leaving food in the fridge can be a problem (histamine and tyramine increase over time), and I'm also sensitive to caffeine (I get a withdrawal headache). I refuse to test chocolate. I refuse.

I am a chronic migraine sufferer. I was prescribed topamirate for the migraines buy one doctor which caused numerous food tolerance issues for me. Once I was off that medication those intolerances disappeared.I did the low fodmap diet, it was difficult but manageable. I currently have Botox treatments every 12 weeks, with lidocaine blocks in between. I feel for everyone with any chronic issues.

Wines have nitrates added, which is a trigger for migraines.. Also in processed meats like lunch meats, hot dogs and pepperoni.

I just discovered your videos yesterday. I've got what I can now call ( it was diagnosed by a neurologist, but he simply told me 'migraines') complex migraines with auras. I've got all 4 types of aura in extreme and frequent other problems that, from all the research I've been able to do thanks to your information, all tie back to migraine issues. Thank you so much for being so clear and helpful, and making me cry with joy that I'm not alone and I can understand whats wrong.

Be aware that Huel does contain ingredients that can be an issue for people with FODMAP sensitivities - e.g. xylitol, maltodextrin, oats, etc.
But if you don't have digestive/FODMAP issues, or none of the ingredients are your particular FODMAP issue (or not at the levels that would cause you problems - Jenn, that whole threshold issue is real... I always explain it like a glass of water - you have X capacity in the glass per 'period' [be that day, week, month... diff for everyone] for the thing that gives you grief. If you overfill the glass within your threshold period, the glass overflows... *bang*...symptoms!)... it sounds like a really good solution for keeping your macros and nutrients up when life / illness / time / etc., gives you the short shrift. I love oats and very sadly cannot eat them (porridge, raw, etc).
Or wheat. Your video has encouraged me to revisit diet in relation to my headaches and migraines (different things!), perhaps through a diary app... if anyone has a recommendation? My migraines are not like yours (more the traditional migraine of aura, neck stiffness, nausea, light sensitive, sound/movement sensitive, axe-to-the-head pain, take a muscle relaxant, sleep for 12 hours, have a hangover for 2 days type), & def nowhere near as often or as life-affecting as you suffer - my heart goes out to you. But I'm learning so much from your channel in general about the 'whole' migraine disease - e.g. paralysis is real, can happen (permanent numb upper lip on one side from migraine once when travelling), links between digestion & migraine, slurred speech with migraine (didn't realise this was aura, just thought I was the only one affected in this way!) etc. It's fascinating and frustrating how little allopathic medicine knows about this disease, or seems to care?! 😳 I sometimes wonder if it's because migraine disproportionately affects women.... and medicine kind of goes 'women's bodies be crazy!' & focuses on other issues.
Anyway... keep up the videos, & wishing you many migraine free days / hours / moments 👍🏼

Thank you Jenn and everyone that posts a comment (if you are scared to comment please don’t be, it may help someone else).
Being newly diagnosed with HM I am still finding my triggers. Before I was diagnosed, something as simple as bending over to pick something up off the floor was a trigger. Now we have narrowed it down a lot. Recently had my IUD removed to eliminate the extra hormones cursing through my body and it has helped a lot.
Ladies, have you found that being on some sort of hormonal contraceptives can trigger you too?
Good luck everyone with finding out the most you can about how to have migraine-free days!
Once again thank you Jenn for providing so much of your insight and knowledge and delivering it in a way that provides a platform for people to feel safe about sharing their own experiences.

Definitely have issues with being on birth control pills... I tend to have lots of ovarian cysts so I've not tried other birth control as it might increase the cysts, but the pill always seems to trigger more migraines for me.
[my period itself can be a migraine trigger, but at least that's usually only ~once a month]

Hi Jen, thank you so much for this video! I found that birth control was a big migraine trigger for me. My new female obgyn told me that it could be triggering my migraines so I stopped and I’ve been better. I still get migraines but they’re better. Some songs trigger my migraines and if my inner ears get really cold I get a migraine. I do have a gluten sensitivity, if I eat too much I get really bloated with severe stomach aches and many bathroom visits. I didn’t know until I went on a diet to loose weight that I couldn’t eat bread on and noticed when I was dieting I had no stomach aches and on my cheat days when I would eat bread, pizza and cookies I would get such pains. So now I just eat gluten in moderation. Your sweet baby girl is beautiful and her little sneezes are the sweetest cutest sounds I’ve heard in awhile!

Oh my goodness, we have so many similarities. I have "complicated migraines with unexplained syncope" (eye roll). I am intolerant to soy, wheat, gluten, chick peas, cumin, honey, peanuts, almonds, lactose , on and on. I am severely allergic to eggs and MSG. I avoid anything processed, and no fast food. If I do eat out , authentic Mexican food is sometimes ok. I keep activated charcoal with me at all times, it is my best friend. Before I discovered it I would be down for 4-5 days with full body symptoms, including migraine, internal organ pain, chest pain, slurred speech, difficulty getting words out, fainting. With the activated charcoal , usually lasts one day, and then the migraine hangover. I have different kinds of headaches and I can tell the difference between a sinus headache, barometric pressure, or migraine.
It's just easier to say I have a migraine, than to say all of that. People think migraine is just a headache , but it's so much more than that.

@@jodeemackenzie i would definitely give it a go. The piercing is no more uncomfortable than any other. Caffeine, here is what I've found out. Tea, coffee, Lucozade, energy drinks coke Pepsi or anything that gives you wings is a big no no. Check all your meds even things like lemsip for a cold contains it. I have also found that aspartame and any other fake sugars are a trigger. Basically check all that goes into your body.
I had the childhood migraine head and stomach ones. Stomach turned out to be ibs as well. I have fibromyalgia, which they believe I've had since childhood and is a sleep disorder.

My mom and dad have migraine. It ruined my mom's life.
I live with migraines, almost 33
Both of my children have migraines.
My son was born with food allergies. I had to give up breastfeeding early on because i didnt know my diet irritated his mouth (egg whites). Waking up to a baby that had scratched and himself nonstop if his hands were free. We wrapped him till he was 2. When we had him tested for allergic reactions.
Cat dander- hives and respiratory problems. He has asthma.
Chicken, corn, egg whites, soy- hives and focusing / behavioral problems. Sometimes migraine depending on his lvl.
Cantaloupe, melon, cucumber - swelling of the ear lobe and tip of nose, migraine (the projectile vomit kind. He had one in kindergarten when a teacher pressured him into eating Cantaloupe. I got a call that he was contagious and to pick him up. He got in the car and just sighed Cantaloupe momm...
When he was 5 he called them his dizzy headaches. He's 9 now.
My daughter who's 15 has them. I had her when I was 17. So we didn't have her tested much for allergies when she was a baby. No scratching but she cried till she was almost 2.
Migraine self: my migraines can be anywhere from almost instant up to 3 days, depending on trigger (helped me fine tune my triggers) But I really have no clue how long they really last.
I can't be in a restaurant that is cooking crustaceans. Shrimp, crab, lobster. I can't have anything fried in a fryer with shrimp. (Most recent was a chimmy fried in a shrimp fryer, oops) Learned the hard way that sardines are packaged with crustaceans.
Olives, Ginger, hazelnuts, nutmeg\all spice, "spice". (Love hate autumn. September baby myself. But everyone is burning pumpkin spice. And no eggnog)
    Possibly other spices like coriander
Bread mold, mold sensitivity. Mild breathing problems, problems focusing
I don't take anything for them anymore. Mine aren't as disabling as yours. I really hope you get some relief.
TMi: Moscato... no migraine just an unplanned trip to the bathroom.

I have no idea how I came across you, but it must be fate. I've watched a few vids since 5am here in Australia and it's 8am so time to get breakfast but thank you for being on TH-cam. I have status migranosis, I'm now in my 11th year of a constant migraine, I have tried every medication and have 3 neurostimulators implanted in my head with 2 battery packs in my back, 1 right upper chest. They did wonders at first but not as much now. Amovig made me incredibly sick, I had been doing quite okay til them and tgey put me back years; and Emgality I had to stop as it was making the migraines worse after 2 weeks of a dose. Now I have a range of meds and have 3 infusions every three months: DHE, sub cut Ketamine and sub cut Lignocaine (when I'm at a 10 for days my neuro puts me in for Lignocaine via picc for 12-14 days), for a fortnight, to try and keep the pain under 5. AND, I was diagnosed with POTS at least 14 years ago now. I went to several specialists who said oh it's just a bit of tachycardia and then my neuro of all people recommended me to my amazing cardiologist. I have strict meds, routines, foods etc like you do and carry around a wrist bp too in my handbag. I'm just so grateful I found you and I'm sure many more people in your community. I know you had a gorgeous little girl, you lucky lady, but have others with POTS had terribly gynie issues? Ive always wondered if they were linked. Anyone who wants to chat can use my nickname, Doc, followed by my surname, as it is here @ the very popular GM. 😷🤗💖

For me, high histamine levels trigger migraines. I've never tested positive on any allergy tests, but it turns out that my body might break down histamine slower than is the norm, so certain foods cause either a spike or even a slow build up. Knowing to watch out for that was a real turning point. I live in a country that is very big on aged chees and fermented dairy, so I was eating way too much of that without even knowing.

Come to think of it, my Doctor also thinks that this might be why the ginger powder is working well for me. It's (among other things) a histamine blocker.

Likewise, totally forgot about that! And tyramine too. Leaving leftovers in the fridge for a couple days can be a problem for me. I came to the same conclusion with ginger working for me... further suspect it because it seems to be a cumulative benefit.

I had a blood test (Alcat) done in 2013. It gave me a list of what my intolerances were to food, environmental, chemical. It picked up my penicillin allergy. Slowly I've been going through the list of nonos. I've found a few triggers. Wheat, oatmeal and soy are my biggest offenders.

I tried to do basically an elimination diet last January.. took gluten, dairy (lactose and milk protein), caffeine, and chocolate out to start. I learned quickly that almonds are a massive trigger for me and that made taking dairy and gluten out even worse. I brought back dairy cause I was struggling to get enough calories and tried to be gluten free without almonds... I have reintroduced everything but almonds back. Though I will be seeing an allergist soon. The others are artificial sweeteners (those are immediate) and I avoid cloves because I react to clove essential oil in an asthmatic way and then get a migraine. Baby girl is too sweet and cute! Motherhood looks great on you!

FYI we thought we didn't have any reaction to wheat when we stopped eating it for ~2 weeks, *but* then after i had gone over ~month and a half or so without gluten, I realized I'd been poisoning myself for years and just never went back (much as I miss the taste hehe)... But it seems like, at least for me, the gluten was remaining in body keeping me in constant migraine [I don't say that figuratively, I legit had migraine that was constant for over 2 years, it only stopped when I was on super high prednisone, or once I'd been off gluten completely for well over a month, it started having periods without migraine... I was legit unknowingly poisoning myself with gluten all the time and didn't know because I never had reaction immediately following it, because it was just in my body all the time I guess!]
I know that's a rare experience, but just FYI, it's worth going off of if you have some random health issues that doctors can't figure out... I still have *other* health issues hehe, but like, I seriously don't know how I'd be alive if we hadn't figured out to stop eating gluten and it was so sneaky because we never had reactions until it was out of our system for a pretty long time!
[we have immediate reaction now if there's accidental gluten, I know pretty instantly... We get autoimmune tummy issues but the first sign of gluten is usually itchy throat, cause apparently we are just super cool and extra special so we have allergy *and* autoimmune issues from gluten... It's seriously amazing to us that we managed to not find out we were allergic or that it was like... It is reallllllly bad for us to have gluten, it's literal personal poison, and the symptoms that are the absolute worst and longest lasting are the neurological issues, they will linger for 1-2 months till its cleared our system...)
Just in case that's helpful for others, I know it really sucks to go GF, but if you're at the point where you're desperate to live and nothing else is working, it was totally worth it to us to be able to have some of our health back and prevent further damage!
Wishing everyone good health and safety!

Sugar alcohols, sucralose (yes even a seizure med I took contained it what fun!) Saccharins, anything that isn’t plain sugar. The list goes on. We have food sensitivities in my family. in my family of six, we have four boys, we have seven known food sensitivities and at least one if not more that are currently undiscovered. Our symptoms do not include migraines. We have one child who has chronic constipation that we're still trying to find triggers for, another child who has some got issues but not exactly the same but a lot of his issues are sensory processing, anxiety, etc. He shows many symptoms of ARFID but I don't think he is quite seriously effected enough to get a diagnosis.
my ADHD is made significantly worse by a few different ingredients myself and I do have some gastrointestinal symptoms from soy as well. I also can't have soy oil or soybean protein or soy milk etc but I can have soy lecithin.
We are 100% dairy-free, 100% gluten free, we can only have brown or wild rice, we can't have cooked tomatoes though for some reason raw tomatoes don't seem to cause any problems, no coconut, one can't have yeast. We avoid food dyes but I don't have direct evidence that it does anything. I just think it's good practice.

Do you know you've eaten or drunk something that's gonna trigger a migraine pretty soon after if not immediately after consuming it? I've had migraines every day since mid December and I'm so miserable. I was told about 14 years I had migraines and was given triptans and that was it. Even this week I got given new drugs from the doctor but no-ones ever mentioned checking what I'm eating or drinking? I've learnt more from you in the past few weeks than in the past 14 years from my doctors. ❤️

I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't watched the video yet (just about to) but I've had migraines for 18 years and mine are mostly triggered by food. I was advised to keep a food diary and also note in it when migraines hit, then look for patterns. My main triggers are cheese, oranges and certain birth control pills (so hormone related). I avoid lactose, rapeseed oil, white bread, rum and wine. All of them give me terrible migraines and stomach issues. To be honest I havnt gone really deep into it for myself which I should really. I have been really struggling with terrible migraines recently and had to be put on new medications. But I found the ginger really does help alot, so thank you so much Jen!! Much love 🧡❤️ xx

As someone who has severe life-threatening food allergies and migraines, I understand the correlation all too well. I do have a few from the top 8 but others that are worse for me than the ones on the top 8. I highly recommend making sure to read all labels every single time and learning the different names they have for things that are not clear such as polysorbates are a hidden source of corn for those like me with a corn allergen. It's a lot of work and there are so many others that I've learned over the years for corn and all my other allergens, but it's worth it. Thanks for another great video!!!

It's called the RPAH Elimination Diet (developed by a big hospital here in Sydney's diet research clinic) and there's a few levels. I'm on a moderate level and I avoid glutamate mostly. As far as actual foods that I always stick to - I'm on a zero corn, low wholemeal, no legumes, no honey kinda weird mish mash 😊 it ends up being different for everyone but my dieticians have been great. 😊 My loading levels means I can sometimes have things like avocado, or mango, but too often will act as a trigger. Corn is sort of my big bad - always a migraine party!

I have had a lot of issues with food in the past both like the bloating you talked about as well as developing an ED while on restrictive diets that where supposed to help. I spent years being scared to eat because it seemed that everything caused me pain. Since recovering from most of my issues I've gotten a lot better but still have problems getting myself to eat or make food. It's a lot of effort and it still feels like I can't eat much. I'll definitely be looking into Huel since I've been trying to find a good meal replacement for months! I've also suffered with migraine since I was a teenager . I get all 4 auras and I feel sick for about 4 days after the migraine attack. I dont get them as often as I used to. But certain triggers are lack of sleep and stress. Food triggers are caffeine chocolate and for some strange reason yellow cheeses. I can eat or drink dairy products. But I've had to stay away from certain things that contain too much acid ( tomatoes, oranges etc) unfortunately I had to figure this all out on my own. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you so much for all you are doing to help us, I dont feel so alone anymore. Xxx

I also have some weird migraine triggers. I can’t have any fermented dairy, no sour cream, no yogurt, no cottage cheese, and I’m assuming no buttermilk but I don’t know because I never could get past the smell. However if it was been baked, I can. Something about how the proteins get denatured makes it where I can process it without any issues. Weather also seems to be a big one and unfortunately the worst sometimes because if the storm systems hit in the middle of the night then I don’t get meds into me fast enough.

Finding your channel changed our life in a wonderful way! We feel so much less alone and know we aren't the only one who gets migraines frequently and totally can't think and can't words and like... It's like being drunk.... We thankfully get migraines less now that we figured out to avoid gluten, but we have EDS and suspected POTS... *very* much overlap in our experience with yours, and I'm SO EXCITED to learn about glucose testing with potential CSF leak, I've been trying to figure out the runny nose thing and had been thinking maybe it could be CSF related but my neuro issues have been... Decade of continuing to learn things that improve it but always having something underlying going on very wrong that I don't have a diagnosis for and doctors tell me I should be thankful that I'm healthy and that I'm not having strokes and... I've figured out that I *might* be, just not a typical fashion, which would make sense cause I've been diagnosed with tia, but then they don't find the cause so they say it wasn't one which... Isn't really how science works, but whatever hahaha... [I'm saying haha because it's been crushing my soul for the past couple years hahaha]
Anyways, my current theory is, cervical instability leading to positional vertebral artery compression syndrome, and I'm pretty sure that's what's wrong, I've just not been able to get testing to confirm or deny.
This channel has given us great comfort and hope though, like truely truely, I want to explain how deeply thankful we are to you for this channel, and hahaha even it's so comforting to think about how we are just having struggles "like migraine Jen" also does, because you're so smart and well articulated and just overall AWESOME, and it's not upsetting to find that we cognitively decline sometimes or have to lay on the floor or pass out etc, because you're awesome so like... That's how cool kids do it! Tehehes ;)
Been super isolated because we just got out of long term abusive relationship and that person who claimed to be our "friend" had treated us increasingly crappy as we got sick and then sicker and she felt entitled to hurt us for not being well when she wanted us to be.
Thanks for being so vulnerable to show us your struggles, because it really helps to see and know that you're just as valuable regardless of what you might be struggling with at whatever moment. Genuinely.
You're so super duper awesome and we are so super duper thrilled to have come across your channel!
Oh and I love that you get into researching! It's really good to see we aren't the only one who starts digging for answers after being told enough times that we are healthy and we very much aren't! I love your outlook on "firing" doctors who aren't doing their job, that helps reclaim a bit of feeling some amount more control over such an unequal power dynamic.
I'm sorry for how the neurosurgeon treated you. That video was... Shockingly relatable.
I had felt hopeful for ya with the heading about the doctor "dropping the f bomb"... Our favorite dream to have is legit just going to a doctor and being told there's something seriously wrong. Which I know sounds crazy. We don't want to be sick. But we *are*. Your video helped us feel greater insight at least, because it seems like that might be what goes on for a lot of doctors. If you look healthy and don't have the things present in the "oh no" presentation that's expected, it's like... Idk. Critical thinking is lacking in Healthcare.
I hope you find answers, we are intrigued to see that you have a fair amount of overlap with things we experience too. That's pretty darn rare haha... I was not looking for someone with similar experiences, I'd given up on that long ago lol!
*and * you even are self trained service dog, too! Ours is in progress of training... He taught himself to alert to some things and eventually we realized enough times after ending up on the floor that we should pay attention to him hehehe... It's very nice to not end up falling so much now! :) he doesn't go in public, we have lots of work before we get to that point, but he's super helpful in our house!
Sorry for the ramble... That's kinda my usual setting, I am not great at summarizing and uh, yeah... I am also not great at conclusions hehe!
Thanks so much for your content! So so so soooo much, thank you! You rock! :-D

Loved your mention of thresholds. That’s so difficult for me to explain with my nut/peanut/seed/seed-oil intolerance. They cause SEVERE acne for me but it can show up between 2hrs and 2-3days later so it was so difficult for me to understand the root cause. Ut just kept getting worse and worse and when I was about 30 I tried doing the whole30 diet - eliminating peanuts and my acne got so much better. I went to visit my parents and my mom commented and I explained, “I think nuts make me break out.” My dad then causally mentioned, “oh yeah when I was about 26 I realized nuts made me break out so I stopped eating them.” I was so surprised because my entire life he just told everyone he didn’t like nuts. I questioned him on this ans he said it was difficult to explain he couldn’t eat nuts but wasn’t allergic. So apparently it’s genetic and he never thought to mention this to me as I was battling SEVERE adult acne. I love my father dearly but I wanted to pull my hair out. I still miss peanut butter. I used to eat it All the time. Lol 😂 I love clear skin more.

I have an allergy to nightshades (tomato, potato, eggplant, peppers, etc) and the struggle with finding triggers for migraines is real. I have celiac disease and my #1 migraine trigger is gluten. It’s a guaranteed migraine every time and if I’ve consumed gluten recently, my tolerance for dairy is very low - where otherwise I’m fine with dairy. I know Huel from ADHD communities, because a lot of ADHDers have stomach issues or issues eating (remembering to eat, dealing with textures of food, stimuli of tastes, etc) and a lot of us have found meal replacement drinks as good options for us. It's really cool to know this also could help my migraines too. I previous was using breakfast drinks but they hit my stomach weird lately, and cause migraines or discomfort, so maybe I'll try other options like Huel. Also, I know a lot of my food sensitivities/triggers, but it'd be interesting to try a hair test to see if there's anything else that I've missed that could help me feel even better. Honestly you might want to reach out to the companies to see if they would sponsor you if you've found them so helpful.

@@MommingwithMigraine Honestly the main reason I stuck with breakfast drinks was price and how confusing the world of vitamin-filled drinks is.
I find it so difficult to tell the differences between "slimming" drinks, "muscle bulk" drinks, "claiming to be medical" drinks, and "meal in a bottle" drinks. I've been told some are super dangerous, while others are perfectly fine, but never told how to tell the difference.

I have found in the last 2 years that I cannot have black tea, pop, any type of alcohol, and I cannot overfill my stomach. I'm not sure why, but I'm assuming it's allergies. I have really bad IBS, if I consume any of these. I do not know any migraine triggers other than dehydration, lack of caffeine (I only have 1 cup of coffee each day and I must have that one cup), and lack of carbs. I have heard about msg and aspartame as triggers for migraines. I just avoid these as a caution. I have hormonal migraines for about 3 days monthly and I get barometric pressure migraines when barometer reading is less than 30.
Thank you for making this. This is great info. I need to research more. The FODMAP diet says that alcohols are safe. Lol! They are not safe for me. I should really do an allergy test. Dr. testing would be too expensive. I have insurance, but unsure of the copay cost.

I already know about 3 allergies so that should help me see if it's accurate. I also get instant hangovers from some wine coolers and migraines from caffeine after I crash from it. I hadn't really thought of those as allergies though.

    • @MommingwithMigraine
      @MommingwithMigraine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @OwenFamilyMath
    @OwenFamilyMath 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I haven't officially confirmed this but I have had a lot of issues with my sinuses, post nasal drip, and losing my voice. I couldn't quite figure out what was causing it. I knew I had some seasonal and environmental allergies but I hadn't even considered foods.
One day, I had a very milk-heavy breakfast where I had cereal with milk and then milk to drink. I noticed my symptoms were MUCH worse through that day so I decided to try Fairlife milk which is lactose-free. I notice a reasonable change in my symptoms when I have it - they are not fully gone so there might be something else contributing to them, but I notice I do feel a lot better through my day when I don't drink lactose.

Even when she finds a food that doesn’t contain rapeseed oil the company can change the oil it uses without any notification.

Yet again, another timely video for this guy who's just starting his migraine journey. Do you recommend a food journal to refer to when you have a spike? Had a horrific migraine yesterday but had already been dealing with one from the night before so chalked it up to just flaring back up, but now thinking it might have been lunch-related since it really ramped up about an hour after eating. When I say just starting, I mean that literally. Last night I went from 25mg (half pill) of Topamax to 50mg so this is my first week on preventative.

People really don’t understand that gastrointestinal issues ARE an allergic reaction. My best friend didn’t know this - we suspect he has an egg allergy (it doesn’t show up on blood work, but he reacts every time he eats egg, and Benadryl stops the reaction every time) and he thought that was IBS. And not all allergies are anaphylaxis. Peanuts are potentially lethal to me, every time. Dairy MIGHT trigger my IBS, but that’s not an allergy - it doesn’t happen every single time. Still, my diet is dairy-free. It’s also peanut, tree nut (except coconut - which is only classified as a tree nut in the US but is really a separate allergen), sesame seed (now the 9th allergen required to be labeled in the US), and mostly soy free. I don’t care about cross contact with dairy and soy, and I can have really tiny amounts - they’re IBS triggers, not allergies, so I’m more lax about them. But peanuts and sesame seeds have both actually triggered anaphylaxis - my blood work says I’m not allergic to sesame or tree nuts anymore, but I’m not willing to test that theory.
All this to say: it’s not always as black and white as my throat closing up, and (if you can take Benadryl) I recommend testing that if you’re getting immediately ill after eating. I’ve been an allergy patient for two decades and it’s HARD.

Great video! I can’t have too much sugar or I get a worse migraine. Just curious, has anyone tried Cefaly for their migraines?

Caffeine is worse than sugar for me. I still sometimes get migraines triggered from sugar, but it's usually in combination with another trigger, like too little sleep or stress or certain wine coolers (or caffeine.) Sometimes it's also a lack of protein, like I think if my energy is going to crash, sugar can make the resulting migraine worse.

I cant have any form of artificial sweetener. They will make me violently ill and even trigger migraines depending on which one it is. My little brother on the other hand as a severe migraine trigger with onions to the point that he has to screen all of his food at restaurants even if they don't say it has onions in it. Even a small amount of it and he will be down for a few days.

what is the migraine headache diet? I suffer from them and have one right now and I have no idea why I get them other then it seems to happen alot if I dont get enough caffine or if I dont sleep enough one day and then over sleep the next day.

My migraines get triggered by fruit juices, fruit squashes/cordial. Lindt chocolate, Blackcurrants, alcohol.
The ingredients in Sour Cream and Onion pringles really upset my stomach and make me bloated and give me the poops :/

I'm on a new diet as per my doctor, it's not an elimination diet but it's pretty close and I still don't have any relief. I've been looking into a food related allergy tests, hoping to get it done.
