Buddy is amazing. His intuition is incredible. He was born to be a service dog. Such a smart boy.

I have a friend Who is Golden Retriever kept doing some strange behavior that she could not figure out. So she took the dog to the vet. After looking at her dog, the vet said to her “I think maybe you need to go see a doctor.” She had no idea at the time, but her dog was alerting her to let her know she needed to go get help. from that day forward, her dog had been for alert service dog for a particular ailment that the dog actually found out she had.

I originally wanted a service dog for anxiety attacks because I get them badly when I’m asleep. I suffer from chronic migraines and at 8 weeks old and only after day one of having her she licked my chin when I had my first one, THEN she alerted the next one 20 minutes before, now she is 4 months old and already alerting me hours in advance and I know if she continues to alert and she has added little barks for the “you’re going to die” migraines. I have complex migraines and you’re channel actually helped me with the decision to do this. Rhiannon, my alert dog, and I are actually using some of the same commands now that we are starting some public access training, like “on patrol”. I am so happy that you have made this channel to not only bring awareness to migraines and other invisible chronic issues but also to bring awareness to service dogs.

My dog has a "drop down menu" kind of alert...
It's basically a paw alert, just I sit and ask if she's alerting -paw if yes.
Then I start going down the list of command words that each one is associated with each issue...
    Like blood- blood sugar low.
Head- migraine that I'll basically pass out
Mouth- random allergic reaction... it's word is mouth because my lips, mouth, and throat swell usually.
If she can't get to me, she'll start barking.
If I ignore her or don't take the right medication, she'll start howling.
    And keep howling.
Till I show her myself taking the right medication.

My dog that I have is not a service dog but she does identify migraines. Her eyes get super big and wide! She also sniffed the area of my head that was going to get pain. Sometimes if it’s really bad one she will nuzzle her face into mine or lay on my chest (Westie). I tell her good girl if I can remember. Then I figured each time she did that, I had a migraine. So she was alerting me in my prodrome or aura stages. She became a part of my treatment plan! Dogs are brilliant!! Thanks for your live. 💜

I know you posted this a while ago, but i wanted to come back with my own "first alert" story because it reminds me so much of Buddy's. A friend of mine has a 2 year old golden who is very possibly the worst behaved dog I have EVER met, but also very very sweet. I was at his place, watching a movie on the couch, when she came up to me, looked me dead in the eyes, and would not budge or break eye contact. She never licked or anything, just put her face right in mine and stared. At the time we both went "It's official, your dog is broken!" and shrugged it off. Eventually she laid down and seemed to go back to normal. He went to the bathroom, and then I got up to get something from my bag and his dog followed me. All of the sudden a POTS attack hit me, and I passed out. Apparently, she went and dragged him out of the bathroom to where I was on the floor, then proceeded to lick my face and lay on me until I woke up. He lifted me onto the couch, and his dog proceeded to continue laying on me until I felt better. Then, later in the night, she did the exact same stare again, but i wound up remembering this video. I wasn't sure if she was trying to alert me, but I decided to put my legs up out of curiosity. A second wave hit me, but it was less significant since i'd gotten my legs up ahead of it. I decided to invite her to lie on top of me this time, and she happily did so until I felt better. We gave that dog the biggest treat ever, and her favourite stuffed toy for being a little hero.

I am signed up for notifications. But for this episode, there was no notification. I found the video when it popped up on my home page when I loaded it.
    Bah.
I don't expect you to see all comments. If you happen to see mine, it's good, but I don't count on it.
Buddy's capabilities are endlessly fascinating. He's an amazing animal - and you're pretty swell, too. Without a perceptive and thoughtful owner, there's no way his communication could have evolved so precisely into what you needed from him.
You two make a heck of a great team.

My pup, who is working towards my medical alert service dog, also alerts me the same way for migraine. She licks my nose and forehead. If it's an oxygen or heart rate alert she's sticks her tongue to the inside of my right wrist. She also gets very pissy. If she gives me an oxygen alert and I try to shrug it off, she shuns me. If my oxygen is too low while asleep, she will put a paw on each shoulder and shake me awake. I, also, have Atypical Complex Chronic Migraine. So stroke like symptoms and partial seizures are a norm. If I'm in a migraine, she will not leave me alone. She is glued to me. My last bad migraine day, she did successfully stabilize me while I had partials seizures.
Honestly, I didn't train her for any of this. She just picked it up. I had no idea what the heck she was doing until I brought it up to my friend who has a medical alert dog, she helped me figure it out.
If I am up doing something, she will throw a tantrum. Like a two year old. She's knocked my phone out of my hand to get my attention, wakes me up, she will climb up on me. If she can't get to my wrist for an oxygen or heart rate alert, she will do it on my ankle.
It's was absolutely life changing for me. Before pregnancy, on my regular migraine regime, I could take my prevention medication right then and miss it. My asthma got worse with pregnancy. If I get to my asthma rescue protocol right as she alerts me or after, she goes and pouts, I can get out of the attack very soon.
My husband has typical migraines, she alerts him the same way. If he is home, she will knock the door when she needs to go check on me.
If I need a check, I just blow on her ears, she'll turn and look at me then blow at her nose. I get at least daily migraines, if I come out of them. I haven't ever got a false alert from her.
Last week, she kept shaking me awake. I was annoyed. I don't get a lot of sleep anyway and need what I can to keep the migraines more manageable. The only health stat my watch showed change right when she woke me up was my breathing dropped. I've since turned on my pulse ox on my watch and she wakes me up when it drops into the 80s.
She is still a puppy, she's not quite a year and a half old. We are working on sit and stay, more obedience. She knows how to push open the swing doors and open the pocket doors in the house to help me with stroke symptoms. I'll start using her for certain tasks in public after the 2 year mark when it's more acceptable. She's quite literally saved my life. I'm so thankful for her. The only thing I wish I could break her of, is if I'm in a very bad episode and can't move, she will keep cleaning my face. I think it's partially because sometimes I don't regular a body temperature in that state, so she might do it to keep me cool. She might do it to keep my hair out of my face, maybe a comfort thing, I really don't know. She only does it in the attacks so bad that I'm bedridden and can't move. During those attacks, she won't even get up to go get food or water. She will not leave my side.
Anyway, sorry for the long comment. It's very reassuring to see that your finished service dog alerts the same way as my girl ❤️ I can't express how much your channel has helped me with my own journey. Thank you

I’m so happy you addressed the licking thing. I am not a fan of dogs licking…especially my face, and it makes me apprehensive about exploring the avenue of having a service dog.
I joke that I have a service cat, but I swear he knows when I’m going to go down. He follows me and gets down right aggressive with his “boops” until I sit down. He will sit on my chest and almost stare me down to make sure I’m going to sit there and let it pass.

10:50 time stamp! Your not alone. I have complex migraines too and then the painful migraines that last 3-5 days. I take nurtec as a preventative at the one set of a bad migraine, its the only one that helps and stops it. Plus I'm chemically sensitive so I can't take much on medication wise. So I'm training a service dog

With the guy dog you are 100% right and correct. When I tell my guide dog forward he just stands there and takes his head and pushed my hand to like tell me mom are you nuts and so then I put my right hand out and realize there’s something blocking it. Or sometimes he forgets and he can go under something and I ran smack into it. Then I make him rework it. And when it comes to traffic yes sometimes my guide dog Will want to go if he sees a car taking too long. And I tell him know in the nearest other times he’ll see a speeding car coming towards us and he won’t go. But 100 times out of 200 times he saved my life. And that’s with my other three GUIDE DOGS I had before. And being that I am both hearing impaired or just say deaf-blindMailing List might guide dogs to be right on point as much as they can. And when he’s off duty. He will come and stick Close to my back to take the pain pressure off my back. When I was working at the VA before Covid he jumped up on me on the front paws and gently licked my face and I didn’t pay it no attention and when I got up I felt so dizzy. And that’s when I realized my sugar dropped. I also have hypo glycemic which is low sugar, and I suffer with migraines where they get so bad I throw up. So I definitely understand where you coming from with these migraines. And just to let you know everybody’s doing awesome with his alerts like you said don’t fix what’s not broken. Sending you and your family lots of love from me and my guide dog Frisco. My sister says he looks just like your service dog buddy mine is a 75 pound yellow lab same color as your boy. They can pass for twins my sister told me

My service dog Milo had different alert for "normal" migraine alert vs POTS migraines. POTS migraines he would practically stick his snout in my left ear lobe . Wierd.. POTS migraines 4me I usually pass out & lose vision & am out of commission for days. Normal migraines he would paw @ my ear very gently. Milo was a Corgi, German Shepherd mix & did this on his own way b4 I knew what he was alerting me 2. Then I learned what he was telling me. I miss him dearly! Now I'm n training with my new standard poodle puppy. He has been great so far

Will he maybe respond later, when she is bigger and got something...normal kids deseas ...kids get sick, thats normal but will Buddy take responsibility for her to? Does he notice a "normal" headache if you have any...or your husband. It is miracles how the body changes with symptoms and how sd' s can seperate this.

I get migraines and I would be really curious if a dog would even react to those! You said it was not planned for him to alert for migraines and started naturally doing that. I would love to have a dog warn me in advance if they will get bad. But no idea if it‘s possible for mine, they usually occur because of lack of liquid intake or sleep.

It’s horrific and I can’t explain what I feel in it- my husband just has no idea what is going on. I got into a cranial sacral therapist and I have not had an episode in months. Praying someone will actually listen and refer you to someone that can help. There is no way this is just migraine.

I’m curious has/would Buddy alert someone else with an oncoming migraine? I’m hoping to scent train our dog for my husband’s migraines as part of his service tasks (my husband has PTSD), but our son also has frequent migraines and I’m curious if he will end up getting alerted as well, especially living in the same household.

Do you have acm and eds, i know orthostastic change means a shift in your posture. I have pots. I found a very smart dog who looks at me awkwardly when my heart goes haywire. She was dumped for getting pregnain her first heat but, she seems to sense when my body goes wonky. Migraine, heart........ doesn't matter. I was looking for training videos, all i keep finding are these reviews. This is a review about having the luxury of a service dog.

New to your channel. What do you take for migraines that works. Chronic daily migraine warrior. Can’t find relief yet. Cgrps, triptans, Botox, trigger points, etc. just wondering. Would love to train labs as service dogs for my migraines but since they’re daily right now, not really needed.

Reminds me of this sonnet I wrote a while back:
Of all the social errors, none can trump
the one involving quick escape of air
from some poor unsuspecting fellow's rump; accordingly, in public, these are rare.
But on occasion, some unlucky soul
will sit behind a desk or on a bench
that, with a certain lean or scoot, will troll
the world with sound like that of source of stench.
"Who cut the cheese? And from whose wicked rear
did that proceed? Why, it was you!" they cry.
"'Twas but the chair, I swear! Just listen here-
    I'll reproduce the sound-for 'twasn't I!"
In vain. Once only will the sound occur
and lo, the victim's social doom is sure.

    • @crystald3655
      @crystald3655 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It may not be a good idea to do so as most service dog "trainers" decide everything is " wrong" and 'must be changed" which totally throws off the relationship between handler and dog.

For those people who don't think it's gross to have a dog lick your face, I think you need to be reminded what they use for toilet paper. Their tongue.
And yea, I know that humans have more bacteria in their mouth than a human does, but it's not the number of bacteria that is important here. It is the *KIND* of bacteria.
I am pretty sure that dogs, in general have more fecal bacteria in their mouth than people do.
