David went out with me for a month or so. 39 years ago I was 16 and he was 17. I have only just realised who he is now. He did not talk much. He seemed "different". I made him smile. The way he looked at me will never leave me. He was a lovely person. I was sad when I realised he was not coming to see me any more. He did not talk much. I did not have much of a voice either, when I was 16. 1985- I was sad when I realised he was not coming to see me any more. 2024- I am heartbroken.
This guy makes me cry whilst im playing piano..... He can hit every nerve. Seen him live! In my eyes a rare gem still to be truly appreciated by mainstream. Forget chart music in where artists dont sing. Music has lost its roots... Singing and emotion make powerfull songs we remember for life..
I totally agree, the instruments during any song are key to me, just the musical ensemble can take you away to the inside of the feelings of the song, without words, then You add someone's unique sound. But I like anything from 70's-present, country, Christian, classic rock. Some my friends don't have a clue, lol. Like Leon Russell, James Taylor, Barry White, Dr Hook, Stevie Nicks is by far my idol, country, George Straight is a true cowboy, Phil Collins, etc.... Bonnie Raitt, Allman Brothers, Lynard Synard, I have seen Greg Allman in the bars in Macon, Ga. Where I'm from, Stillwater was friends of family, they hung out with Greg. This generation or any will never know the meaning of good music, lol. God Bless You my friend ❤️
To hell with mainstream, first time I saw David live, there were 15-16 year old girls in the audience singing his songs word for word, they didn't get it from mainstream, he's to good for mainstream.
He literally healed me from nerve damage caused by a stabbing that crippled me. The drs had no hope and without the surgery's besides the stabilizing me and 9 units of blood transfusions i was healed with completely severed tendons, brachial arteries muscles and more. Please decide to give the master of the universe a chance. He is so wonderful. I love you and will be praying for you!!!
...I HAVE BEEN DOING THE SAME THING FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS OR SO TOO...I cannot believe this!!!...and here I am listening to this AMAZING song, one of my absolute favorites...reading through the comments...and I find you...2 years later I read your post...😔...hope you are still listening to this song and all your other favorites💖
My gosh David you are quite the legend. Been listening to your stuff since about 1995, didn't even know this song existed until this week! Now I'm stuck between this, flame turns blue and lately! Such a majestic artist. All of your songs are just perfect melodies and harmonies with exceptional lyrics. You, sir, are a true inspiration. Live long Mr Gray.
"ladder 49" brought me here as a firefighter this song touches me. great film, great song and better performer as an Irish man I know David Grays music a seriously underrated ARTIST. BRILLIANT!!!
"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Luke 11:9
White Ladder exposed me to DG's sensitive, romantic & soulful lyrics. i haven't been the same since. sighs. he could sing and play piano in a way that can transcend how music affects and connects our loveliness.
I love David gray, he is so romantic, his words make me think about my life, I'm drifting away, thinking about everything in my life & what I would like. Falling down the mountainside
Here from Old Dogs with John Travolta, Robin Williams, Kelly Preston, and Bernie Mac. Crazy to think 3 of them are gone... Apparently this song is also in Ladder 49 which also has John Travolta. Guess I should check it out
As I’m leaving A change comes on my eyes These streets persuading me To mumble strange goodbyes And through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything Throw my heart out On the stones And I'm almost gone And there's no meaning In clothes and coffee cups Cheap hotel furniture Where silence never stops And through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything Throw my heart out On the stones And I'm almost gone Now I'm dreaming I'm staring at the walls At cars all frozen now In late night waterfalls And through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything I throw my heart out On the stones And I'm almost - - Through the water Through the rain To the soul of everything I wash my heart out On the stones And I'm almost gone
This song makes me cry because me and my step dad used to watch the ladder 49 movie together when he was still alive but when he died it was really hard for us to get through it
Heard this while getting a raindrop treatment.. knew his voice because it fees like home.. just hadn't heard this tune. Asked my therapist to please see what the song was called. Can't stop listening to it!!

the rest of the world knows DG is an icon in the singer/songwriter sense. here in America, White Ladder became our signature album. then, his songs seemed to disappear through the rain. it wasn't that he wasn't popular but maybe over-saaturation.
YES,Never forget buying Lost Songs, got home and could not stop listening to it,ok at the time new album some songs?maybe i wasn't sure about, you know how it goes, but did not take long for me to love the whole album,If anyone is not familiar with David Gray's older albums,Listen to ,A CENTURIES END / SELL SELL SELL / EP'S / FLESH / all amazing albums in my eyes/ears, Now i will be honest,i had a listen to his new stuff, not so sure, maybe it's like i said in the first line and it just needs to grow on me,ok so i will give the albums,FOUNDLING and LATELY another try, anyway, that's my rant,ON YOUR BIKE NOW HAY.

I'm dying, I know I'm almost gone ... I've been putting together my own music list to be played when I'm gone. This song has always been number 1

I left the Uk in 01, i think deep down i knew it was forever. this song was (is) the soundtrack to that move. and there you are...
Left in '70, back for 1 year 1999 turn of the century, seemed appropriate
one of the most beautiful songs ever and only 9,569 views strange man :))
His songs are played back so many times in so many tellies and movies still the artist remains Unnoticed in limelight like Richard Max after 90s....
Good song
"So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

Great song. Conveys perfectly the feeling of leaving... where even the cars parked on the street are Imbued with the sadness.
Simply poetic. Thank you, David Gray. "Through the soul of everything..."
