I introduced my father-in-law to David Gray in 2011. My wife and mother and father-in-law saw David Gray at Ryman Auditorium live in August 2014. We had a blast, but my father-in-law really, really loved seeing David Gray live. My father-in-law developed a very aggressive form of dementia in 2023. The last time I saw him when he was conscious was in the hospital. Nurses were coming in his room one after the other. He was very agitated by the nurses checking his temp, changing his iv, taking his blood pressure. By this point he was not able to communicate with us. I started playing David Gray on my phone and he instantly calmed as we listened to the music. Say Hello Wave Good-bye on the set list. About twenty seconds into this song, he turned his head and looked me in the eye. It was a sweet moment. One I will never forget. I was fighting back tears, but it was obvious I was able to lose it. He just looked at me in the eyes. I was telling him everything will be ok. It's like he was saying to me it's going to be ok and it was like he was saying good-bye. My wife wanted to bring him to our home to die. He died on July 17, 2024, surrounded by family with David Gray music playing. Rest in peace Fletcher. You were one of a kind. You will be missed. Thanks for being like a father to me.

This song reminds me of a woman i spent some time with after the break up of my marriage some 20 odd years ago now. We would give each other some comfort, as she had been through some hard times aswell. We would often play this song, so i learned to play it on the guitar and we would sing it together. I left to come back up north where i am from after 6 months or so. I found out from a friend that she had died about 4 years later. I returned to this song for the 10th time this year and my husband walked through the room and asked, first time hearing it - "Is that Dylan?" lol. I never put it together before, but yeah - what a similarity of Dylan's early years. xoxo.

Bought this album twenty years ago as a lot of yous here, what a gem! One of those intimate encounters with your inner you, cut straight to the heart and it still does, especially this song, cuts real deep, there's such a melancholy to it. Holds a genuine place this one. Gonna listen to it with my 8-year old chérie. David Gray, cheers from France, many thanks
my favourite ever album, always on when it came out,saw him at blenheim palace, now playing it to my 17 month old granddaughter who loves dancing along to it 🥰xxx
David you are a true talent and this song speaks to many men. Who thought they had their forever. And discovered. It was not. I have met so many countless male friends who experienced the same. And in their Take Two, have found someone who didn't betray them, who truly loved them. That is a testimony to those who betrayed their true love, who discarded them so selfishly, and many times, their entire family. To all the men of the world who get to meet their actual true love, after such a failure, not of their choosing. All the best to those men. There is hope. There is true love out there.
One of the most special albums close to my heart from the time, parents were going through divorce and I was in love with the wrong girl only 16 years old.. times filled with emotions that change you ... Great music pure and honest ❤️
David..heard him in a restaurant in Kilkenny, in 2000,on a Juke...the restaurant was full of workers with DS ,so happy, friendly and the this song cane on....wow..talk about knockD 4 6......
My mom induced me to David grey he was meant to go on tour in 2020 and well… Covid and my mom and me were so excited we agreed when Covid ended we would see him, unfortunately she passed away. and listing to him still brings me some comfort.
For a long time I had no idea this was a cover of a Soft Cell song. I heard the original and liked it, and still do, but this version is beautiful. Would that it carried on for another ten minutes. Summer of 2005 I played this album non-stop, saw him that December in Brixton. A year I look back on very fondly indeed.
I played this album 10 years ago and it’s been with me ever since , it’s a album I can put on from the start and listen till the end , absolutely one of the best 👌
I agree! This is one of the best audio CDs I ever listened to.I remember listening to a thirty-second preview for a slightly different version of "Please Forgive Me" in MusicMatch Jukebox on my HP Pavilion 710 CTO PC (which was my first HP PC) with Windows XP Home Edition on it back in 2002. I never listened to the full-length version of it until I found it here on TH-cam as a music video a decade later in 2012.
Not every shape fits in the shape filled box. We have our scars, our choices, the clock where we realise we then better ourselves. Life's a whole rolling road, a huge learning curve.
In an era where nirvanna and nine inch nails wes what was emerging on the radio. You were the other side of that.. The sane sjde. The sane side of me. Mr. Davjd Gray you are amazing. Counting crows and james blunt were good to but differance is your still good. Ive always known that music had the power to change lives. Keep up the excellant work.

Not heard this for an eternity, and I'd forgotten just how good this is. One of those rare cover versions that actually surpasses the original version, and this blows everyone else's clean away!
My dad played this every time in the car. I don't see my dad anymore but this album is him for me. Haven't listened to this for over 10 years......been too long :)

A friend from Ireland sent me this CD, at the time it wasn't available in the US of A. What an awesome find! I'll always truly love my friend from Ireland. .... It was so cool, but still is! 💜❤️
This song remembers me of a lass I was going out with back in my teenage years. We were together for like a year and I swear I loved this girl. We just kind of drifted apart but she gave me so many happy memories that will last my lifetime.
Take a look, in my face, for the last time. I never knew you, you never knew me, say 'hello/goodbye'. Say hello and wave goodbye. I think he's talking about the instance of human bonding, where it is awesome and then it turns sour and and it all seems to happen in one single instance. The man is a genius and I only have my own interpretation of his music - I just hope that everyone else listening enjoys it in whatever way.

I returned to this song for the 10th time this year and my husband walked through the room and asked, first time hearing it - "Is that Dylan?" lol. I never put it together before, but yeah - what a similarity of Dylan's early years. xoxo.
I’m 64 now, really good album at the time, really good album now, thought he was going to be a massive star but somehow never turned out that way, whether he chose that way I don’t know,I believe he financed the album himself because no one would give him the money, more fools them.
I’m 63 today ..... and have tumbled across your post. Loved this album. 💜💜
Hey Steve at 64 In know exactly what you mean?
Why it's brilliant 🙂
Want so much to see you in Philadelphia USA in August
Christmas 2021 still listening to this track, utter beauty
This version really brings out the emotion of the lyrics
one of the greatest covers made it's own ever!🥰
Bought this album twenty years ago as a lot of yous here, what a gem! One of those intimate encounters with your inner you, cut straight to the heart and it still does, especially this song, cuts real deep, there's such a melancholy to it. Holds a genuine place this one. Gonna listen to it with my 8-year old chérie. David Gray, cheers from France, many thanks
Had to reply to this comment, its so good. Hope your daughter loved it like we do
Ahhh I’m just sat here listening and thinking “that post absolutely nails it “.
Take care , From Liverpool England

my favourite ever album, always on when it came out,saw him at blenheim palace, now playing it to my 17 month old granddaughter who loves dancing along to it 🥰xxx
David gray chills me out so much , even after 20 years . Great album .
I once saw Marc Almond sing this live, and he was utterly brilliant. DG really nails this song as well. Breathtaking.
34 I used to play David Gray all time when I was young but never really got it untill I grew up real talk love it 🔥
David you are a true talent and this song speaks to many men.
Love him!! David you have such a unique voice and excellent lyrics that are deep heart and deep felt!! ❤❤❤ God bless you!!
This song was running in my head when I decide to leave my wife after 25 yrs of her running around while I stayed home with our 3 kids.
That's a long time. I hope you have peace now.
Good for you Fella!
Your worth more than that.
I hope you are doing better. There are still amazing loyal women out there. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Strength to you brother
💔
One of my Top 10 albums of all time.
Along with Tracy Chapman's original debute album.
This album touches the inner you nobody sees and fills you with hopes, regrets and sunshine
One of the most special albums close to my heart from the time, parents were going through divorce and I was in love with the wrong girl only 16 years old.. times filled with emotions that change you ... Great music pure and honest ❤️
Exact same situations for me.. father had an affair, I was 15 and in love with the wrong girl. Too true Dave.
The highest selling album in Ireland ever.
Didn't know that. Not surprising, though, I suppose. I can see why it would appeal there.
@@archiebunker4108 Not sure what this comment means, can you elaborate?
@@PresidentLincolnThe Irish have good taste
I saw David in concert in 2002 ...I was 19 ..he was amazing and still is. His music never ages x
This is amazing.... still now 😮❤❤❤❤❤❤
Something come to a end...
David..heard him in a restaurant in Kilkenny, in 2000,on a Juke...the restaurant was full of workers with DS ,so happy, friendly and the this song cane on....wow..talk about knockD 4 6......
One of my favourite cover songs, ever. His voice; that melody. Possibly perfect - I certainly thought so at the time...older now, but I was right.
I had no idea it was a cover until just then!
I saw him play this album in 1998, at the Highbury Garage, Islington. The crowd demanded two encores that night - special times..
@2manynegativewaves Why did you two separate..?
@@jerryfalwellsociety that’s class
You have just reminded me of that!
Still here on Aug 2024,26yrs after it's release, one of the best albums of the 90's, re released in 2000, ❤❤, love it
Just went to see him in concert tonight - amazing! Goosebumps....
I saw him in Leeds he was amazing! It sounded like listening to the record he was faultless
@@rebeccaturner6887 Saw him in Dublin a few weeks ago, best concert Ive ever been to, and Ive been to many.
blenheim palace...absolutely stunning👌👏
I bought it 20yrs ago aswell, 57 now. Seems like yesterday.
David Gray's music is fairly solid, no frills or spills..
My boss Andrew was playing this around 2006 in his office and I love it since then :)
I played this album 10 years ago and it’s been with me ever since , it’s a album I can put on from the start and listen till the end , absolutely one of the best 👌
Brilliant album. I know what you mean by playing the whole album
What a great cover! I used to love the Soft Cell version in the 80’s. Great memories. 🥰
love this album. every song is awesome!!!
Turning a Soft Cell cover into a Madame George homage is absolutely brilliant. Beautifully done piece of music.
Goose bump song! Love David gray
I listened t this album for years. Then a few years ago i won tickets to David Gray. I almost didnt go. The tickets were in the 2nd row, BEST concert of my life. I will alywas love it.
I like soft cell version bestx
Seen in America 6 times me is British
Reminds me of a love I lost forever. I'll never get over her bit when you are young you never think of the repercussions.
you are right
So many feelings, and for so many people. My heart is with all of you. Love to everyone, but especially those who need it
Not heard this for an eternity, and I'd forgotten just how good this is. One of those rare cover versions that actually surpasses the original version, and this blows everyone else's clean away!
White Ladder is a David Gray greatest hits album!
Say hello and wave goodbye is a cover version of a Soft Cell hit!
@@Davidmoyesisanalien5 yes soft cell released it in '81
I don't think it surpasses the original, but I love David Gray and his version.
_it's a cover?!_
Anyone else getting through lockdown with White Ladder
On yes
Yes me nearly every night 🌙
My dad played this every time in the car. I don't see my dad anymore but this album is him for me. Haven't listened to this for over 10 years......been too long :)
Alec Brown Have a great life ✌🏻🏴
Alec, there are far too many alienated children and parents (mums and dads) out there and they all long for each other to re-establish contact & relationships. It is never too late to make more beautiful memories like you just shared. Wishing you well

This song and album was huge in Ireland. Dunno why it wasn't more popular everywhere else in the world? Love it.
Had a friend visit tit 90. here. First time hearing
What i was going to say. First heard it from a friend visiting Ireland.. Still love it
Obviously huge in the U.S too!

It was so cool, but still is! 💜❤️
Great song . Bad memories.
Hurts coming back to this one after all this time. My
Mind still goes back there. I wish it wouldn’t.
been there
Me too
Why is it that some people say david grays music is depressing . No its not its pure music from the heart . Love david gray
He is one of the greatest singer, song writer's of my generation
He is, so underrated in my opinion. But he didn't write this particular track it was written by Marc Almond of Soft Cell.
Goodbye Emma.❤️
You were the best dog a human could have✨💕
@adammclaughlin4662 Oh my goodness! That brought tears to my eyes. 🐶🐕🥺😭😭
this is a great song helps me get through rough times
and me
This song remembers me of a lass I was going out with back in my teenage years.
He ruined his music genius when he got married
Lola Flores haha!!
He didnt write the song it is a cover of Soft Cells original, also performed by Aha. But this is actually my favourite rendition.
