    I got it for triathlon, and I have a Wahoo bike computer. It was only $200, so not bad. I got fed up with Garmin not connecting well, and I found Garmin products overly complicated. So far, quite happy with it. It connects and uploads to Strava within seconds of being in iphone range, unlike Garmin which could take hours. And I kinda like the simplicity of the Rival.

    I'm a big fan of Wahoo. I use a lot of their cycling stuff. I don't think it was actually rushed. I know they've been working on this watch for a really long time and there's a lot of things I really like about this watch. I actually really like the style and feel of the watch but I agree with you about the buttons. I'm a little worried about those guys. I'm also pretty pumped that the price on this isn't 500. Happy to hear the hr is bang on. I was tempted by this watch because of touchless transition, but a number of people have complained about inaccurate distance data which is an issue. Also the lack of music for training is a downer but not a deal breaker. Hopefully they can improve upon gps accuracy with a firmware update

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems like Wahoo will be releasing a lot of new features in the future. I'm hopeful that they take this great hardware and make it even more capable with software. The GPS accuracy wasn't bad at all... Just not perfect. And since this watch is limited in features I really wanted HR and GPS to be rock solid since that would be kind of it's only selling point unless you're 100% triathlon. Thanks for watching!

    From what I gathered, the Wahoo Element Rival is a watch designed for triathletes with a minimalist appearance. That means the watch does not have all the bells and whistles and is designed for a triathlete or a person who wants a more simpler watch layout. I personally am not a triathlete, and I do like a lot of data, which means this watch is not for me. I still however, greatly appreciate this watch for what it is! Keep it up Chase the Summit! Thanks for the review!

      @@triathlonsean9511 you're right, I suspect. I had a service call with Wahoo to talk about my new Kikr trainer, and the guy I spoke to was working on the Rival, as well. We had a pretty good conversation about the watch in general (he wasn't permitted to say anything specific), but the general vibe I got was that they were focused on the simplicity part of it, rather than sleep metrics, readiness score, etc. I would like to see the ability to access historical info -- steps, calories, etc. I would also like to see the ability to bring activities recorded on other trackers (apple watch, strava, etc.) into the Wahoo app. We didn't discuss that part, it's just want I'd like to see.

    Nice vid - today I checked the 0.75 speed mode for your video. Much better to understand but a bit too slow ;-) So please try to speak 0.9 by standard :D (After switching back to standard it feels like I pressed the fast forward button) - you got a new follower. Like your videos. Coming back to the watch: A bit too much frame in comparison to the screen size imo. And a bit less activities. What about music on the watch (or did I miss that point?)

      @ChaseTheSummit  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear the speed toggle helped! I'll work on that .9x speed haha! Yeah, there's no music or navigation on the Element Rival. They really designed this to be a straight up sports tracker... And that's about all it does. Thanks for watching!

  • @Nomisteaks80
    @Nomisteaks80 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review! Nice work. My own quest for the perfect new watch has driven me into your arms :) I was hoping you could guide me a little bit if I provide my background and what I am looking for in a sports watch. So, I do quite a lot of running. About 80km / week split between trails, parks and urban areas. In terms of races I have done mostly half marathons and the occasional ultra marathon and trail race. I am currently training to get a good result in a full marathon and would also like to participate in some more, maybe longer (so far 50k is the max) ultra marathons. Lastly, I am considering to try out a triathlon, to see if I like it.
    Now, what I find important in a sports watch is accuracy in GPS and heart rate data, battery life, barometer, detailed training data and feedback, the ability to upload gpx files in order to follow routes from the watch. I guess in that order. What I don't care about is smart watch functions. NFC payments, Music, phone notifications, a fully detailed map..... not super important/can live without. My budget is about 300-600 dollar, in that range. What would you recommend? I have the Polar Grit X, Polar Vantage V (2), Coros Pace 2, Coros Apex on my short list. Garmin is also great of course, but the Fenix 6 series is too expensive to me, the FR945 looks awesome, but has too much extra's I don't care about, the FR245 is great but lacks the barometer.... It's difficult.
    Any input would be very much appreciated :)
    ps: I have the TomTom adventurer at the moment. I always liked that watch a lot but it's really at the end of it's use and life span now.

    In addition, you can edit the transition zones afterwards so that the correct splits are also issued for the transition zones; e.g. for Strava ...

    Wahoo schooled Garmin in the sensor department when they pushed out super compatible sensors. Forced Garmin to add Bluetooth to their sensors because Wahoo just ate their market share. But Garmin learned quick and added Bluetooth compatibility to their high end watches and also their sensors. Not sure if Wahoo can take on Garmin in the watch department. Although they do have quite the following in the biking department. Just wished they made a less bulkier watch for triathlon. They may have had a better chance with that, since Garmin is not really catering to tiny wrists for trip watches. 735xt was good, but it's long in the tooth. The Fenix 6x is small enough but still a bit heavy at over 60g.

    The Rival cannot compete with Garmin. It is the first watch from Wahoo though...
    On the other hand Wahoo’s phone up is the cat’s meow. Makes it stupid easy to connect and configure the watch or the element line of bike computers. Farming should really take note and stem up their game when it comes to companion app.

      Their app is quite nice! I only wish it had a bit more features and a way to track trends over larger periods of time.

      Sorry bout that! A combination of bad lighting on my part and a rather dull display on the Rival.
