I would probably buy something like this. There’s no way in hell I’d pay a subscription fee to whoop. That’s ridiculous.
The subscription is *OK* when you consider you get the device for free, great warranty, ai coach, and the newest devices when they come out for free
@@NickBEADGno, it’s not ok, its ridiculous.
@@NickBEADG I agree. People pay a subscription to Netflix and other than getting to watch a movie, you don’t have anything material from them.
👌👌👌👌
@@Damian_S_whoop 4.0 is $239 for 12 months that’s cheaper than a decent Garmin or an Apple Watch series 9.
100% agree ; I want to wear my mechanical watches and still have all the info!! Great point Dave
THIS
Definitely!
This!!!!!!
+1
Spot on! I’m an Apple Watch Ultra user but would still love to keep tracking all my data and them wear my mechanical watches once in a while. I can go for the morning run and hit my daily workout and swap, but currently it’s always a trade off
100% - I have been wanting Garmin to do this forever, don’t know why they don’t do it
The fact that Garmin haven't already made this device absolutely baffles me. The subscription kills Whoop for me so I'd buy one of these in a heart beat. 👍🏻
They're too concerned in changing the AMMMMMAZING new app... 😣
100% agree. I wonder if the patent is strong enough that harming can’t pull off a clean design that’s comparable
YES, YES, YES!!!! Please Garmin develop this product
garmin vivosmart?
Totally agree! It drives me nuts that if you want a minimalist tracker in the Garmin ecosystem, you’re stuck with a vivosmart, which just looks like a toy, or you have to move up to a lower-end forerunner.
Garmin needs to fix their app too. Sleep tracking is meh, they basically ignore weightlifting strain on the body so for us weightlifters and walkers Garmin is not the best, and their app layout (yes the new one) is pretty bad compared to whoop.
that's a bummer
I tested the beta version of the new Connect lsyout , and it is not great .
what do you think is better suited for weightlifting?
I pitched this to Garmin a couple of years ago, but they gave me the runaround and said maybe in the future.
I've suggested this on social media several times. The last time I added a screenshot of the Amazfit combo 😅
Garmin finally responded that I should submit a customer suggestion, so I did.
It would be really awesome!
Absolutely true! I have thought about such a band from garmin at least a thousand times!
garmin vivosmart?
I couldn’t agree more. Right now I am wearing all the time Vivosmart on my right hand with all functionality (display, messaging etc.) off just to gather data and Fenix watch only during training.
I do the same, and its annoying that they havnt got something as slim as the whoop band
I do the same when wearing my mechanic watches at work. I’m considering using a nylon strap to fashion something similar to whoop band out of the vivosmart
This speaks to my soul. Thank you for making this video. As a person who prefers to wear an analog watch, wears a Whoop, and uses a Garmin (Epix Gen 2) for golf, hiking, and biking, the idea of a Garmin "Band" would a definite "shut up and take my money" moment for me. The Whoop data sync with Garmin and subscription fees nag at me, but I also love the Whoop data without a large smartwatch.
I would definitely buy it and would gladly pay $300 or so. Solves all the problems you mentioned and probably a few nobody has thought off. Come on Garmin!!!!
garmin vivosmart?
I would even go further: make the band to be a running/swimming/cycling HR sensor (like Polar has).
Meaning not only you can wear it to track your sleep data, but HR when exercising.
garmin vivosmart?
the chest strap will do that and you dont need to wear your watch. you can start your activity on your watch, the HR sensor will connect then put your watch in your bag or pocket and it will record and send the data to the watch.
Hey Garmin, hope that you have watched this video! This is great idea!!
garmin vivosmart?
I have an idea for a DIY Garmin Whoop band:
- buy a relatively cheap and small Garmin watch (e.g. FR255S)
- turn of notifications and use just the fitness tracking
- buy just the strap of the Coros heart rate monitor
- attach the strap to the watch
- wear it on your upper arm
- et voilà 😁
in theory you can't just slap a heart rate sensor on any part of your body, it should be specifically calibrated for the body part (and a lot of body parts aren't suited anyways, because the skin is too thick or there are no blood vessels).
simply wanted to say one thing: thanks for making this video, just pushing this to garmins attention
I would definitely buy a band if garmin made one , happy to pay £150 ish .
My watch irritates my wrist at night, and I can't sleep in my chest band.
vivosmart?
What watch do you have? From my experience, I can live with forerunner 24/7 especially when I have nylon strap instead of rubber one, my colleague has Fenix and it's too heavy for him.
Yes to everything! This is exactly what I’ve been hoping Garmin would produce for years. I walked away from whoop a while ago because of the subscription and the lack of GPS. I wear a Garmin, but miss my old analog watches. I’m ready for the Garmin strap and an Omega!
100%!! I’d love to be able to collect HR date on situations where I don’t need GPS data or I don’t want to wear my Fénix. Not only sleeping, but also at crossfit, working out with kettlebells or rowing indoors, to name a few situations (a ring would be a no in those cases too). Coros already have a band to wear in the arm, and all the info syncs with the watch data. But please, NO subscriptions. HATE them.
Clips like this one + some comments must be like a gold treasure for the guys at Garmin researching the community for tipps and hints to improve their devices or develop new ones. I`m also a Garmin user and wouldn`t use a Whoop for the exact same reasons. In the long term I think it just doesn`t pay off like a Garmin or some Applewatch would. So, it`s kind of a matchball for Garmin, I guess.
Great video, as always !
I would pay 300€ for this if they don't ask me for a subscription. It will also expand my Garmin ecosystem.
garmin vivosmart?
One of the biggest reasons I didn’t keep my Garmin watch was that Garmin seems to “force” me to use it at night to access all its smart features. Without this, both the watch and the app become pretty useless and are too expensive just for a workout device. I have an Oura ring that I love for sleep tracking, and it’s effortless to keep on without a second thought.
For me, creating the next device that forces me into the Garmin ecosystem wouldn't be a solution. A better solution (IMO) would be to import data from other apps (like Oura or Whoop) into the Garmin app and still use the Garmin watch for fitness workouts and hikes, as it’s truly fantastic for that purpose.
And imagine if Garmin created a Whoop strap with a detachable watch screen...
Agree!
Have a 965 and would buy one of those.
Agree - I personally use the whoop because it doesn't have a display and one can really wear it 24/7. In terms of accuracy probably Apple Watch or others would be far superior but the display for me is a huge distraction (apart maybe from training in different heart rate zones). So hope your wish will be heard also from other manufactures 🙌🏻
yes, please! ❤ I work in healthcare and there is nothing that I would like to get from Garmin as much as they arm strap health tracker. The subscription service of whoop is killing it for me.
Agree. I just want to wear a mechanical with no notifications and still have good data tracking. The rings do t seem to have enough data to me.
You are definitely not alone. Would love to have either a Garmin band or Garmin ring to wear at night so I could take my watch off at the end of the day.
Definitively that would be a great idea from Garmin to provide a such additional tool in particular when you have big watches such as Fenix, Tactix. It's not always easy to wear during the night
I sent Garmin a tweet with this idea too! Thank You for making a great video about it
As a Epix Gen2 user and also currently owning a WHOOP, I can confirm I would buy this for sure. Also because I cant keep my watch on during football matches but I dont want to measure the fatigue and training impact from the matches. With a band I could still wear it elsewhere.
I would love that. I exactly want this. I wanna have Forerunner for runs, Band for regular day to day so I can wear other watches.
If I could pay a one off, absolutely. I refuse to pay a subscription for something like this, no matter how good it is.
Totally agree, I would buy a Garmin band the minute it releases
Great point. That would also kill the other brands like fitbit charge. The only caveat for Garmin being, If the users wears the fictitious Garmin band whole day and also dons the garmin watch during activities, how do they arrive at the hrv or step counts during the day etc. The connect software needs to be intelligent enough process the same data collected from two devices and update the insights accordingly
Absolutely agree, sometimes I've gone out with two watches on, the fenix on one hand and the mechanical one I wanted to wear on the other... Garmin needs a low profile wearable that complements its watches. Are you reading us, Garmin?
I would definitely buy this. Wear it for every day use and wear my forerunner during runs.
I love my whoop! I know its not super accurate compared to other devices, but its not about 1 data point. For me its about tracking trends over time. My favorite part is the journal tracking and the insights from it. If Garmin came out with a product that did that and I didn't have to pay a monthly subscription, I'd for sure consider it. It would also need to have some kind of battery that clips on like the whoop, so I'd never have to take it off to charge it. I also love that about my whoop.
I would definitely 100% get behind this. Garmin could even style it like an arm-bamd hrm for those who can't use a chest strap comfortably. Please make it happen!!
100% support about collecting all the data, it is really strange to have recovery time only on one device, all should be shared with watches, bike computer, we should be able to use one watch for daily usage, another for training!
I'm faily sure they're either working on a band or a ring. Would make a lot of sense for them to do.
This is genius! I would definitely be interested in this!
Polar has actually made exactly that recently, DC rainmaker put a video out on it.
Problem is that it's not for sale to the general public for some baffling reason. Polar has made really strange decisions of late, but this takes the cake.
You mean the Verity Sense? In the US you can order a single one online right now direct from Polar or from Amazon.
Yep, the Polar 360 was an exciting headline... until I realized it's not for sale lol.
Please keep me updated! I'm looking for this for about a year! And I definitely think Garmin is the brand that pulls this off!
garmin vivosmart?
I definately would buy as a companion to my Epix Pro 51mm... Especially as the Whoop can be worn on the upper arm, I would use for activities like crossfit where kettlebells smash on the wrists all the time.
Yes! We need a Garmin whoop-a-like band. On my current work I use rolled up sleeve shirts with my crossover solar but I'm switching to a VP position and I can't wear that thick watch with a suit.
I’ve wanted this forever, I even bought a 3D printer 5 years ago to try to make one myself out of an old Fitbit. Garmin needs to do this.
Well, that‘s exactly how -and why (+alarm w/ vibration)- I use a vivosmart 5 (right wrist) along side my Luminox (left wrist): replacing the first for runs and workouts that require ext. sensors, w/ my tactix Charlie.
The VivoSmart is a good stop gap but unfortunately lacks some of the more useful features like Training Readiness, HRV Status, Etc... along with still having a display on board.
That would be great indeed.
I've just cancelled my Whoop subscription and am thinking about what I could replace it with next.
Garmin, make the sensors and vibration alarms and I will let go my oura ring.
I have a cool idea too: a modular whoop-style-band/running watch hybrid. The band has the optical HR and other sleep measuring items build in, but on top there is some kind of click-in mount for the bezel of a traditional garmin watch. You could take the watch component off when sleeping and even let it charge separately overnight while still tracking recovery and sleep, then snap it onto your wrist in the morning and head out the door.
WOW! Great idea! The point to have the option to wear a traditional watch and still have the measures is really good! Unbelievable they didn't have that idea!
Garmin could just make the HRM to collect sleep information or any other metric, which is a lot more stealth and already does some of the stuff like collect steps. Just add a couple of sensors in the HRM like skin temperature, ABC sensors and it's golden. It could be a game changer for sleep data also, if they open the Sleep info to apps like Sleep2 and sync it with Connect or atleast let them work on it like the activity fit files.
I've also seen whoop has a few clothing items you can wear it in instead of your wrist, which in some cases would be ideal! Garmin should consider this
I would really love this - I work in healthcare and right now my only option os to strap my watch around my ancle or just miss out on the data
This would definitely help me move to Garmin, would buy this product
Yes!!!!!!! I have been wanting this forever. I refuse to pay Whoops subscription and I'm already in the Garmin ecosystem. I want to wear my analog watches again.
Maybe some runners, or sporters in general, don't want to use the phone when exercising, so they need a weareble with screen, even a simple MIPS screen is required to track on the road. But.
But, things like this or Coros HRM, or Polar arm band... For the ones that always get the phone when going out, maybe is a battery benefit. And Garmin needs one of this, of course.
Totally agree. I do tend to use my HR strap (via its dedicated memory) whenever I can't wear my 965s though would appreciate Whoop-like Garmin device instead. Great point!
You are preaching to the choir and I have been saying this for years as a owner of really nice mechanical watches! I would pay a couple hundred bucks for that as long as there’s is no subscription! Garmin used to have fitness bands in the past but totally neglected them in the last 4-5 years!
Definitely would fit my use case. I hate wearing the Fenix at work, night etc so I'm missing out on a lot of data. Then I'm also not a big subscribtion fan and Whoop is definitely too steep for what it is. So I hope someone at Garmin watches this vid !
You know that the Vivosmart 5 exist, right? It's pretty much all that you want, plus notification, connect GPS and a couple more. When I want to put a nice watch, I put my old vivosmart on my other wrist and it look like a bracelet...
Yes Garmin, PLEASE
I would easily pay 200€ upwards, having something you can easily wear 24/7 AND still buy a mechanical watch, that would be amazing
I've been thinking about this for years! happy you made a video on it. I use Garmin for running and cycling but don't like wearing it when I'm not exercising and especially don't like wearing a watch to sleep but would still like all the data on one platform
Would think they are already developing something alike and maybe even being close to release. Maybe not entirely because of the Whoop, but because Polar just released the "Whoopi-ish" Polar 360.
This is 100% me j actually hate sleeping with my watch but i love having the statistics. But also like being able to still wear my actual watches.
I hate wearing watches (Garmin) to sleep, I am waiting for Apple to come out with a ring so I can go back to AW.
@@Phat-rj3joyou could get an Ultra Human ring. It works well as a sleep tracker. And writes all it’s data to Apple Health.
Can't sleep with a watch on my wrist, so I am wearing the forerunner around my ankle at night using a soft-ish flexible strap. Did the trick for me at least.
I would 100% buy one of these! I love my Garmin for the data but would rather wear a real watch (and hate sleeping with my garmin) to have all my data in one ecosystem and stop my oura sub.
the subscription price from whoop prevents me from buying it, what an absurd price for the data you get. I am looking forward to a more affordable subscription from Garmin with a same kind of device like the whoop.
Whoop is a vibe. Their app interface is second to none. I use both a Garmin and a whoop while training but have no issues taking the Garmin off and wearing the whoop and using that data as my "overall" readiness data.
For sure, their app is really where the magic happens.
This is the reason why I bought the forerunner. I love that it’s so light and therefore less intrusive during my sleep. But agree that this seriously a reason I used to have before obtaining the forerunner for a product like this
Since we are running in imaginary lane here, add in blood pressure measuring and I'm all game!
Garmin do a blood pressure monitor. It's quite conventional but bluetooths directly into your garmin connect app!!
Totally agree. Been a garmin fan since 2020. Would prefer a ring to complement larger watches for 24/7 wear, kinda like what Amazfit is doing.
I wanted this since the time of Nike FuelBand. Garmin was for activities and fuelband was for nikefuel.
Garmin should just buy Whoop...
Ha! that would be nice except Whoop is so big now that I can't imagine that ever happening.
@@ChaseTheSummitWell, Google bought FitBit too 😉
@@ChaseTheSummit looking at the size of Whoop it's not an impossible task, but on the other hand Garmin isn't big enough to do it without risking the whole company. Oh, well it was a nice idea
Right on point, Dave! I always wanted something like this, because I never managed to wear a watch at night and also like to switch to mechanical watches from time to time, but still want to collect data during the day. The subscription plan, however, has always been a huge drawback for me.
So yes, I would definitely buy something like this from Garmin, and I guess a price slightly below 150 bucks could be fair.
yeah, id like Garmin to do something like this so i can go back to wearing my watch...
I prefer to own one device and use that exclusively (don't mind the bulkiness of my Fenix 6x pro), but I can see your point to offer more choice and cater to people with a more varied lifestyle, but that stiil want to have all the data in a single, easy to manage ecosystem.
100% please make this Garmin. Dying for a non screen tracker I can wear, I only want to wear my Garmin when running.
I agree with this. I've been using Whoop for the past year, but I've been wanting to switch to something that tracks HR and other fitness data better. I keep looking at the advanced Garmin watches but ultimately get turned off by the cost and screen. I'd love something exactly like what you're describing and I'm surprised there aren't more options like this out there.
Wrist or side of upper arm without a display would love a device like that.
100%, would love to pair this up with my Fenix
I agree. I also think that if Garmin did do this, they may also do more with their own "whoop" style feedback that Whoop gives on their app which would not only give current Garmin users with certain sensors we all benefit
Yup. I’d buy one as well. Great thoughts Dave. Cheers!
I need this, Garmin needs to make this
But the Helio Ring already does this. All we need are the additional sizes. Sure, you'd have to switch to be fully Amazfit to use a single app. I get that.
Waiting exactly that from Garmin!
I absolutely would use this. I am a long-time Garmin user, who ended up switching to Apple Watch. I prefer the features of the Apple Watch but desperately missed features like Body Battery and many others. This forced me into using an Apple Watch + Whoop band, and now I've also added the Ultrahuman Ring Air (although I don't think I'm keeping this, as the data is better from Whoop). So if Garmin was to make a band similar to Whoop, I would absolutely buy it and use it, but really needs to be like Whoop and not like the display based VivoSmart 5.
I'll also say that I attempted to go back to Garmin a few months back and bought the most expensive Epix watch. I couldn't get used to it again and could not deal with some of its limitations like all-or-nothing messaging, and no real ability to text people back. Plus the lack of good apps is a real problem, so I can't see myself ever going back to a Garmin watch, but I would 100% go back to the Garmin eco-system and metrics using a Whoop-like band.
I m in this pocket too! I "need" the Apple Watch for all its streaming / messaging options but also need the body battery, HRV, stress, etc.
This is great Dave. I have been asking for this kind of product from Garmin for a couple of years. Even posted it in the comments here and a couple of other channels about it. Thank you, Dave for creating for this video. Hopefully Garmin will listen. I WOULD BUY it immediately as a companion to my Fenix 7 watch since I don't always want to wear my watch, especially at night for sleep.
Sounds like an awesome idea! To expand on that. Make it like a stryd pod, so you can remove the band, put on your shoes and it can track your power using when running. Or put on an extend strap and use as a chest HRM. That I would pay 200 for easy! So band at night, foot pod on the run with a watch, or a on a larger band as a HRM
My question is: what's keeping a stand alone Garmin watch itself from doing whatever a Whoop does?
It kinda does it's just displayed differently.
Absolutely agree! Wish they would get this out ASAP! Long past due!
Yes , and a ring and they need to sync body battery! I have been waiting for that to happen for years. That is the one thing that Garmin has yet to resolve from a software stand point. I hate switching devices and seeing the software estimate and move either 10-15 points up or down when switching watches. Or also not seeing the activity from my Fenix 7 show how it affected my body battery when I put the Venu 3 back one.
I wear my Fenix 24/7. Problems solved. Batterie LIefe so long, no need for anything else.
totally agree ! it's a burden to wear an epix to sleep but i don't want to engage in another ecosystem (especially those with subscriptions). It will be great if there is a garmin product : 1) comfortable for sleeping, 2) in one ecosystem, 3) no subscription. Either band or smart ring will do.
If there is such a product, i hope it won't just sync to garmin connect but also sync back to other garmin device. In that case i can view the data on my watch as well as on my phone.
good morning! today im happy to tell you about our reimagine vivosmart 6. our best vivosmart yet -tim garmin
I miss having a band that can be worn on the dominant hand to track my strokes in tennis (forehand, backhand, speed, acceleration, etc.). Currently, no Garmin watch is capable of doing this (only Apple can), but I think an additional band is better than integrating the functionality into the watch (the extra cost will be paid only by those who are interested in it).
I don't know if you were drunk. But I like it hahaha
I use an Amazfit Band 5 for this exact purpose. Small. Long battery life. Heart rate sensor. Pairs to the Zepp app to track sleep/workouts etc. Lots of aftermarket bands to make it look decent. Syncs with Strava. If Garmin made this it would cost way more and do the exact same thing. I wear mechanical watches and the tiny Band 5 disappears on my other wrist. It even has a tiny screen if you want one.
Polar have bought out a physical device that’s open source so it will be interesting to see which company picks it up first.
