A number of people have asked me if I think redheaded men are treated differently than redheaded women. Even more redheaded women have asked me to include a section in the film about their experience dating. Sadly, there isn't room for that in the actual film (the film has a very specific and focused story). But I thought it was an interesting question, so I decided to investigate the different stereotypes that people have for ginger men vs. ginger women.
I am a female ginger. I dated a redhaired man once - it was very odd, people often mistook us for siblings instead of a couple. He had violently red-orange hair, where mine is more auburn red. He often voiced dissatisfaction about how differently ginger men & women were viewed by society. He once made a comment that stuck with me - that ginger women were "celestial fire goddesses", meanwhile he felt he looked "like a blond who rusted". I think of that every time I see a male ginger.
Ugh, I am a red head dude with a red haired girlfriend. At one point she was borderline breaking up because my friends wouldn’t stop harassing us and it made her uncomfortable how similar we look. It’s kind of on and off with us nowadays, but I wonder how much nicer society would treat us and how happier I would be if I was more accepted.

@@jackster2352 I mean there are entire nations just with or mostly black hair. There were even places in Japan that forced you to dye your hair black. The reason that people said you are "similar", is because red hair is rare, only 2% of the Global population have it. You are lucky.
Maybe ginger males are "awkward" and "nerdy" because people have bullied them to the point they've lost all their confidence and. Don't like how they look. Maybe if people were nicer to gingers they wouldn't get these problems. I'm ginger myself and been bullied physically and verbally just cos I have red hair. Now as an adult everyone tells me how lovely it is.

Tadge - a lot of the English people have ginger hair too, if I’m most mistaken the Irish, Scottish, and English have the most natural gingers, surprisingly the Welsh don’t have many gingers.

Yeah I mean most of my friends were fairly dark skinned and I mean for me I don’t have a problem it was nice and you know I’ve got plenty of friends that have many differences I mean they’re not bad they’re good and for me being a ginger person I’ve just accepted that sometimes in life you need to just not let these people get under your skin and be friends with who you want to be with.

my hair used to be ginger, now its turned brown, but has started to come through in the summer months, its not fun in the UK as bullying is literally everywhere, but apparently it's ok to be physically harassed and emotionally destroyed because your hair colour is different, I went to my student wellbeing teacher about this and she laughed in my face saying that its not a form of bullying, there is a lot wrong with this world, all I can say is that at least some people in this comment section are decent enough to accept who I....we are

My 18 yo son is ginger. He hates his hair color. But he's a good looking kid. He's got all kinds of girls coming after him (and a couple of their mothers, some teachers & other women my age--ew.) Lots of ladies like ginger boys, I've discovered.

Actually, I love ginger guys since forever and a day. Most of the ginger men I've met were adorably awkward, kinda nerdy and really fun to hang out with. Love 'em!
Its not that strange, most of the redheads have been pushed down early since they were very young. Society is basicly saying you are nothing and you are ugly. Im a little bit red but a mix but I always gotten some shit for it. The guy in my class was complete red haired and he had rough time to say the least...

I can never understand why men with ginger hair are looked down upon. Their hair colour is so cool, amazing and they are attractive. Plus they tend to be more kind and less judgemental towards others. I would go out with a loving redhead man over other men if i had to choose.

Discrimination is an over the top word to use here. They aren’t stripping them of any rights cuz they have red hair. And they don’t hate them either. I think ginger men have earn stereotype as nerdy or ugly. I think it’s false mind set because there are attractive ginger men.
I guess being ginger is like being an asian in a western countries. Girls are perceived to be attractive, men quite the opposite. But Asian people do stick together and attracted to one another. So they are probably not as lonely as red head men.

interesting movie, it made me cry at the end to finally see him around other red heads and not hating himself. As I watched the movie I think it may have been harder for him to find a woman to date because he was very insecure(but I do see in the film how a lot of people over there had similar thinking to like that of the blonde woman who frankly told him he wasn't attractive because of his hair color...) and people can sense that but i understood why he was so insecure when watching this. He had those horrible memories ingrained in him to adulthood. I hope he truly learns to love himself fully one day and his hair color because it's beautiful just like any other hair color
You're right, its often Europeans who dislike Red headed men. My bf is a redhead and he only ever dated black women. He is a beautiful person inside and out and i love his hair color, its such a turn on! My advice to any red headed men is to pay no mind to the haters because there are other women out there who will find you attractive especially from other cultures!!

I am a ginger woman and never used to be attracted to ginger men but now age 35 i have met plenty i am very attracted too. Honestly I have had a lot of grief for being ginger but I do believe its worse for men. Also sucks being the only ginger one in my direct or close family and was very hard having no one to speak to about this issue and appreciate seeing im not alone.
Plus, there are different levels of ginger, lightest to darkest. The guy in the video has peak ginger, which is usually the easiest to target. I do too, but haven't really been teased for it.

As a ginger I was bullied mentally and physically as a kid. It's hard sometimes, you know speak to girls
or even have a girlfriend. I lost my confidence and I don't have any close friends that I can talk about my problems.

I just would like to say, I live in the U.S. and my bf is ginger. People do not like his red hair very much at all, he gets yelled at by random people just for it.
Ginger men are my favorite omfg. Red hair is so beautiful, it doesn’t seem like a color humans should naturally have. They stand out and always have the prettiest eyes as well especially in the sunlight; their hair and eyes glow and they look ethereal. And all the freckles? It basically comes down to envy. Red hair indicates so many attributes - native Brit, distinctive colour, so many famous red heads. Why would anyone want brown or black hair? So dull and ordinary.

Firstly, it’s not all about having red hair, it’s more about the combination of red hair, pale skin and freckles. And even then, there are different kind of shades of red hair, like strawberry-blond, ginger, the classic red, deep red, auburn and dark auburn. Secondly, physical features like height/tallness (lack of height/tallness is in my opinion the top drawback for any men in Europe), body shape, jawline etc. are more important for women than the typical ginger features. At least that’s my personal experience. I’m 6'1" (185 cm) tall with an athletic body type, dark auburn hair, pale skin, some, not many freckles (they disappear during the wintertime because of lack sun exposure), a well-groomed beard and I can’t complain about my facial features. Now I have never had a problem with the girls and I don’t agree that gingers, in particular, have. I do have many friends with dark features (white men with dark hair) who struggles with the girls big time, but they have one common physical treat and it’s their height, they are relatively short. But physical features become less of importance as time passes, because other characteristics such as personality etc. really are the ones to look for, and that knowledge comes with age. As for the ginger girl stating that “often men with red hair are uglier than women with red hair” I have to say that it’s because of the makeup and the time they spend in front of the mirror. Now take a average ginger guy, straighten his hair, let him grow a well-groom beard if he doesn’t have a stunning jawline, define his eyebrows (since most gingers have none because they are invisible) and put on some classic clothes with colours which suits the type of pale skin and ginger hair. Now you will get a stunning looking ginger guy. So, ginger girls do look better on average because they spend more time in front of the mirror, if a ginger guys did the same they wouldn’t be any less of uglier/prettier than their counterparts.
I'm somewhat similar. I'm 14 and 6 foot. I got auburn hair, no freckles, tan skin, athletic body type, and my facial features are pretty good. I usually don't have a problem with the girls as most women always call me cute or handsome.

As a ginger woman I've always found ginger guys sexy as hell but avoided dating them or having them as sex partners for one reason: I'm not sure the world could handle the heat. Every ginger I know, male or female, has a fiery side in the bedroom, some are buried deeper than others. It was recently I found out by accident what can happen when two gingers get involved. It was an amazing sexually but our fiery sides didn't mesh well. I've found not everyone has a temper, some have jealousy issues too, both sexes. This is just an observation from the US

I pull my hair out whenever I'm stressed because for years and years it was the cause of my stress. Still trying to move away from the habit, but it's difficult to say the least. It's something I've got to work on because therapists don't think it's that big a deal.

NONE OF THESE WOMAN'S ANSWERS FOLLOWED ANY DISCERNABLE PATTERN OF LOGIC.....They basically said they are attracted to the EXACT OPPOSITE of what they go for.....IN REAL LIFE....They even validated the "value" factor of a man being ugly if he's a normal guy but the OPPOSITE if he's got high status.

I just recently came back from a holiday in Italy and I got complimented by an Italian man for my hair colour :) (I'm a natural red head) I also noticed a lot of others looking at my hair when I was walking down the street, I read somewhere that some Italian men like red hair and find it exotic which is why they like it. But in my home country, it's considered really ugly :( and I get so much hate for it, it's upsetting.. different cultures have different opinions on beauty!

IloveLuhan - Trust me, people in the UK and Ireland mock gingers (especailly very orange and fiery red gingers) but people in Italy (even the Italian women), Germany, Scandinavia, the USA love gingers.

I haven't noticed that red-heads are any more likely to be handsome or homely than other hair colors. There are homely redheads and redheads that are models. The same with blondes and brunettes. With that said, I find red-headed men catching my eye a lot lately. Oddly enough, when I was much younger, I found red-headed boys to be too strange looking with their really light eyelashes and eyebrows. It almost repulsed me. I wonder why that was. Nowadays, the ginger men I've dated stick out in my memory most of all, because they looked unique. I've always been curious if red-headed men prefer very dark-haired girls. That's something I've noticed. It seems ginger guys like dark haired girls. Is that true?
K. PacificNW oh my god yes. Haha I find dark hair so attractive on women but most of them don’t find us redheaded men attractive haha. I think it’s a more opposites attract kind of thing.
I find dark women attractive as well like women from Latin America or generally those with olive skin.

@@freckleheckler6311 same here, albeit I've fallen for blondes too - I think the opposites attract thing is likely true for casual flings but the more similar (fair haired or fellow ginger) is likely true for more longer term commitments. certainly been my experience
I got crap all my school years as a redhead. I've thought of dyeing my hair but nah, I'm going to be me. As I've gotten older my hair on my head has gotten a bit darker but my facial hair is still pretty ginger.
I think redhead men are handsome. Something about them, in my eyes, look really attractive.

in my experience ginger women are either really unattractive physically or very very physically attractive, i find there's very really a middle ground with them. but honestly ginger woman that i find attractive will turn my head a lot more than a non ginger woman i find attractive.

I get that being made fun of for red hair has become acceptable to society, and its not a big deal to me. But i will say that just being called the word ginger sends a homicidal chill up the back of my neck. it's pretty rare to find ginger redhead guys, but you will find redhead girls EVERYWHERE. Redhead men is hard to spot.

Soular Surfer I come across this "ginger guys bullying thing" for a while now, mostly related to the Atlantic Islands, respectively England in particular (I'm German) and I find this phenomenon really irritating. Having close friends in UK I'm often over there and see - naturally - lots of redheads. I love to watch the males with the most vibrant colouring and usually run the risk of being caught in the act of rude stares whenever I see one. I wonder what started this nonsense of their "bad image". Jealousy? Still fighting the Celt? It's bizarre. Where I live we do have many red haired people (Eastern part of Germany), too, yet almost all rather faint, fair strawberry blondes. Those dramatic, burning red tones as I sometimes see them in UK (and Ireland, yeah, been there, loved it! ^^ ) are very rare here. In fact, if I see someone with that colour I suspect it to be fake or he/she very likely is Atlantic Islander.^^ And in contrast to UK they are quite popular here with the other sex. I think it's a real shame and ironic that the region with the highest percentage of the rarest human colouring gives some people of that sort such a hard time. Hope that changes soon! Hair colour doesn't really say much about a persons qualities after all.
The hatred comes from pop culture and media in my opinion, I don't care much for brainwashed by pop culture women who are all the same like these fat chicks in this video who don't have a brain or sense of psychology. If you think about the movies, books everything in modern pop culture you'll never find a ginger male hero yet, big and muscular and who saves the day he's always that guy from that daft wizard movie or chucky from rugrats and that's been implanted in their psyche to brainwash them, or always the bad guy like in those vampire movies with those sparkly bitches that these girls probably watched like every other girl. It became societies norm and its natural psychology that everyone do the same and be a sheep and follow what's popular. I was born with red hair which really glowed in my late teens but like my uncles gene it faded to light brown by the time I was in my mid twenties, there's a balance to everything though I took up kickboxing religiously and trained my whole teenage life and now in my twenties I'm ten times fitter than 90 percent of the guys in my high school and still the fastest in my city at butterfly. I always get a smile on my face when I remember thrashing everyone in my year at butterfly by a whole length of the pool. People always need to feel ontop "alpha male" so some people do it by stepping on other people with words and what society has told them its sad. I don't get pissed off when i hear bullying or labels well I do but not protective of myself, i laugh at myself and with my mates, I know the way this fucked up world is but just get pissed of with labels in general thrown around how stupid it is and judging people by colour and creed and automatically putting them in a category makes my opinion of humanity go down the loo. it's a shame that some people don't have an original thought past that to think for themselves.
Seleuce - ginger hair being abundant and as far as I’m aware native to the UK and Ireland are mocked over here, which is a shame, but I’ve noticed other ethnicities and nationalities of people adore bright, red, ginger hair especailly Italians, Germans (as you’ve pointed out), Scandinavians, and US-Americans.

I'm ginger my girlfriend is beautiful and my life is great I have a better life than most of my darker haired friends. Fuck the stereotypes!!! Women are attracted to confidence. It doesn't matter about the colour even though in later life it worked in my favour.
