I'm a redhead and I've only used sunscreen like twice in my life which was as a kid and only because I was forced to since they were afraid I would burn due to we were going to be outside for hours, lol. But I only recall ever getting burnt once in my life, and can actually tan pretty easily! :)
Gingers are actually more tolerant to pain. As for that 20% more anesthetic, it's because we also have a higher tolerance for painkillers making them 20% less effective. I saw a pretty cool video where they put a group of redheads up against non-redheads in a series of tests to determine physical tolerance to things such as shock, temp, and pain. It was pretty interesting, if you're into the subject.
"Gingers are babies when it comes to pain" So, my friend Eve is a redhead, and she has a bone thing that makes her bones break MUCH easier (Is that grammar? idk). and she goes to school the next day, losing the support item (crutches, sling, etc) a few days after that. And she barely ever ISN'T injured in some way. I haven't ever seen her cry, though. Even when her one of our friends broke her finger, she still went to school.
Kylie Robertson Dang, your friend is one tough cookie. And because you asked: I think the correct grammar would be "more easily". English grammar is annoying at times. English spelling is just as bad.
I have red hair, I'm in my 50's, and I still practice martial arts and play on gymnastics rings. I tore a rotator cuff about 5 years ago, and it's been a very slow gradual healing process. However, for the most part I feel as fit as I was at age 18.
this is going to be hard to believe but i’m naturally ginger and NOT scottish or Irish. i am actually 25% Middle eastern (Lebanese to be specific) and i also get tan in the summer it looks very strange
My ginger sister was conscious but immobile during her double knee replacement surgery because of a resistance to anesthesia. I'm 'strawberry blonde' but have an unusually HIGH pain tolerance. Go figure....
@@lightningfun6486 If you are not a red-head. Zip it!!! We do have an issue related to certain classes of these drugs. Abd the ladies definitely have a much higher tolerance for pain. Note, we are not talking about abhorance to cold\heat. That's just an adaptation to environment. I don't mind hot weather and nit cold.
Science "So, besides all myths this one thing is a real problem" Random a-hole who didn't watched the video or is too stupid to understand "It’s actually a myth it’s not real"
You know...so have I. Quite a number of little red hairs. So I shaved it all off...because I suspect those will be the first to turn white and I don't wanna see white for a while :|
I believe Mythbusters did their own study to disprove the pain tolerance issue, they found that red heads were more tolerant to cold/pain than the average person. Not sure how valid their study was, but still something to be considered.
Mythbusters is often not to be trusted. Their "experimentation" is hardly scientific. An innate pain tolerance pales in comparison to experiential tolerances, which I'm assuming was beyond the depth of their "testing."
For the most part that's correct, but for this experiment they were very careful. They had a larger sample group for both groups, establishing a good control group. I could link you to the episode if you'd like.
Andrew Benson I've been roaming the internet for quite some time on facts about redheads and I can safely say that the majority of the studies that has been made on redheads and pain shows that redheads have a higher pain tolerance towards thermal pain. The only source that indicates, that redheads can tolerate less pain is some survey that was made once that indicated that redheads were less likely to go to the dentist because they were dreading the pain that they'd have to go through. Personally, me and my identical twin brother can attest to it not being true.
In all fairness, the redheads in the show were all from a very hot climate, California, their winter is what we call in the north a very hot summer. If Mythbusters had tried that test with the cold water on redheads from Iceland, the experiment would have lasted hours per person.
I’ve constantly gotten made fun of for my red hair(even by teachers) and my father even disowned me at birth because “I wasn’t his child, he doesn’t have readheads in the family” and thought my mother had cheated on him and I’m like “bro, you had to have carried the ginger gene along with my mother or else I wouldn’t of had red hair- Also can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten called vampire, souless, orange, etc. And it can get pretty annoying

Oh and take care of your skin , redheads are more prone to skin cancer. Also many redheads have high pain tolerance and anesthetisia in normal amount doesn't work on them and they require Higher amounts of anaesthesia so if you ever go to a dentist or doctor just specify that you are a red head. hapacalgirl I don't think that's quite how hair genetics works. Black usually dominates all else, implying that your mother is actually a carrier of brown and you didn't get her black haired gene.
Dan Kayur Actually very little is known about hair color genetics. Additionally like other coloring (skin, etc.) it is more about the amount of eumelanin, and various forms of melanin that you produce. While it is completely possible that my mom is a carrier of brown hair (not sure how likely since everyone I met on her side of the family has black hair including my brother), it is more likely I produce less eumelanin which resulted in my brown hair since I am definitely a carrier of a MC1R variant. In addition my brother tans while I have very fair skin that burns easily. As for eye color, its simple genetics, brown eyes are dominant over all other colors, so while I am heterozygous brown eyes considering my dad is homozygous recessive for blue eyes, my eye color is actually brown, however my future children have the possibility of blue eyes if I marry someone who is a carrier of blue eyes.
Love this, I always wanted red hair or red hair kids, and got one. No one in our families are red haired so we got surprised, but very happy ❤️ Hope to have lovely red haired grandchildren one day 😍

I'm the only person in my grade with darker red hair. People are assholes. It sucks. Also, that thing about being more sensitive to temperature actually makes a lot of sense. I absolutely HATE heat and humidity, and can really only tolerate 70 degrees Fahrenheit (depending on humidity) at most, without being uncomfortable. But I seem to just generally prefer lower temperatures than people I know. And I'm from Wisconsin, so 'cold' to me is like 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Any other gingers prefer cooler temps than people you know, or is it unrelated to my hair colour?

As a ginger, I can honestly say that this stuff always interests me, and this video is no exception, especially because Hank's presenting it! Also, to those wondering about the whole soul vs. no soul thing, let's be honest: of course we don't. Where else would I hide my movie snacks if not for the empty cavity where one's soul would usually reside?
Incorrect. We have a high tolerance to opioids. As a half ginger I can tell you that I receive no high from percs or vicadin. I only needed pain killers for extremely painful accidents like tearing all the muscles in my foot and crushing my thumb. It wasn't a pain tolerance issue, it was an issue with taking 5 pills just to have any affect of just barely taking the edge off.
Caity Wheeler That's because gingers have a higher tolerance for pain. The claim that they are more sensitive to pain is false and there are studies to prove that gingers handle pain better
Caity Wheeler Yea they do that a lot. I was twelve when I had to get a tooth pulled and they gave me nothing. Keep in mind this was my first trip to the dentist so I now have an actual fear of the castle shaped office.
The gene is actually thought to have evolved due to folate degradation in response to UV light. The effect of UV radiation on skin (causing skin cancer) does not become detrimental until after reproductive age, thus having little to no influence on successfully passing the gene down.
What about people with brown hair and red beards? I have a clearly defined shift in my hair pigmentation. My hair is dark brown, but once it reaches my sideburns it turns copper. What's up with that?
noticed the 2,254 dislikes, and I'm assuming they won't watch this again, but for you future dislikers I would love to know why you disliked the video, was it the objection to evolution or mutation, do you not like red heads, or did you find the show host unentertaining?

There's an extreme prejudice I think which is just as dumb as being prejudiced about skin color. These people are sheep and follow the bandwagon of ginger prejudice.
I think there's a possibility that it's more to do with his leaning towards calling one of the most ginger places in the world the UK despite the fact that Ireland has a much higher percentage and there was and sadly still is tensions between the two, so while I do not think their opinions on the video were prejudicial but I do believe possibly more political

I have a high pain tolerance! I can definitely handle the cold, I really love it. Though, I HATE the heat. I definitely need a double dose of anesthsia, as I remember waking up while they were still doing stuff...
Now that I think about it, racism is basically people hating each other due to amounts of eumelanin and pheomalnin they have. Also (in case u couldn't guess by my profile photo) I'm a ginger, yay!
Racism is perfectly accurate for what it is but it's not a catch all term. It only describes a subset of the persecution that goes on. Conversely, tribalism is a very broad term that covers most of human social interaction, good or bad. Descrimination is descrimination, do you really need another term?
Natalia Ortiz Are you serious or just joking? Every gene of every organism in the world is a mutation. That's how dogs evolved from wolves and humans evolved from ape-like creatures. Through mutation. Your blue-eyed and fair-skinned friends are very recent "mutants" in the context of human history.
fedfoofy IMHO - man did not evolve from apes....although we are closely related, there's a slight variance in DNA sequence that separates us from them....as is the case with other living creatures....in fact, it could be said that we evolved from dolphins....and, apes from whales....as we are all closely related....no tangible evidence has ever been found to support and/or prove evolution....millions of fossils have been found, and are still being found.... however, none are of animals in the evolution process....such as a fossilized half ape/half man..... so, the Theory of Evolution is just that to me...a THEORY for now....or, until it can be proven to be 100% fact....BTW, how do we explain the apes occupying the planet with us today? And the wolves? Why didn't they evolve? Maybe they overslept and missed the "Evolution Train"!!! LOL Like I said in the beginning....IMHO....so don't be hatin'....and, NO....I don't believe in the "BIG BANG" Theory either! I'm somewhere in the middle.......... like, "The Theory of Big Evolution Bangs"....or, something like that!!!
DjCheryl Hi, I think you initially misunderstood my comment. I said man evolved from ape-like creatures, not apes. Humans and apes share a common ancestor, but humans didn't evolve from today's apes, of course. But I also wish to clarify your statements about evolution. It is called the "theory" of evolution because in science, everything is a theory. Gravity is also a theory. Theory simply means an explanation, and a scientific "theory" is supported by evidence; it is not the same thing as an hypothesis. But you might say, "well there is the *law* of gravity," but that is only describing the mathematical constants of gravity like Fg = (GMm)/r^2. The actual idea that there is a force that attracts all matter is the *theory* of gravity. Now about the fossils, what do you mean "animals in the evolution process"? Every organism is a step in evolution, so every fossil is an intermediate form between a species in the past and a species in the future. Evolution doesn't happen in a day, so you won't ever see a half ape half man creature. In fact, if you were to find one, that would actually disprove evolution, not prove it, since the theory says that evolution happens gradually over thousands of generations. So when you mention the apes and wolves of today, they *are* evolved forms of past organisms. They have adapted to their environments well, monkeys in jungles and forests, and wolves in mountains and tundras. Evolution doesn't simply go from monkey to human, it goes from one creature to several different creature. That's what it means when we say that humans and apes share a common ancestor. A single species splits into different populations into different climates, and over time each group evolves separately in their respective environments, resulting in very different organisms millions of years later, such as monkeys and humans. And why do you mention the Big Bang theory? It is not related to evolution, and I never said anything about it. Anyways, sorry for typing so much and thanks for reading.
I've heard that though they are more sensitive to temperature, the pain tolerance is actually higher. It's a higher tolerance for the meds that makes them require more .
it's the same for natural blondes, they are only 1-2% of the population. You were a little off in your explanation, Because the two types of pigmentation act interdependently. For example, if you very little melanin, but lots of pheomelanin, you will be ginger. If you have a medium amount of melanin, and lots of pheomelanin, you will be auburn. If you have little of both, you will be blond. if you have lots of both, the redness won't show through the black pigment. Think of it like black and red paint. If you have no black or red paint, you are white. If you add red paint, your red, if you mix in a little black, you get brown, but if you mix in all the black, it just looks black.
I am a ginger. My hair is closer too brown than blond. I just saying that if you know a redhead you shouldn't give them any crap. They may ignore it when you say it, but deep down it does hurt. Gingers never really feel accepted. It's tough, but I wouldn't trade my hair color. I'm not a basic bitch, I am a ginger bitch! :)
Karissa M oh grow up. you think a fat person likes comments about their size? or a short person likes comments about their height? suck it the fuck up.
Why is the skin on our backs so sensitive? I get why the skin on our elbows and knees are near impervious to pain, but what's up with the skin on our backs?

New challenge, finding a redhead that doesn't own sunscreen.
I don't have to look past myself to find one
I'm a redhead and I've only used sunscreen like twice in my life which was as a kid and only because I was forced to since they were afraid I would burn due to we were going to be outside for hours, lol. But I only recall ever getting burnt once in my life, and can actually tan pretty easily! :)
I hate sunscreen but forced to use it

Gingers are actually more tolerant to pain. As for that 20% more anesthetic, it's because we also have a higher tolerance for painkillers making them 20% less effective. I saw a pretty cool video where they put a group of redheads up against non-redheads in a series of tests to determine physical tolerance to things such as shock, temp, and pain. It was pretty interesting, if you're into the subject.
If a.redhead has a nervous breakdown could that be called a ginger snap?

"Gingers are babies when it comes to pain"
So, my friend Eve is a redhead, and she has a bone thing that makes her bones break MUCH easier (Is that grammar? idk). and she goes to school the next day, losing the support item (crutches, sling, etc) a few days after that. And she barely ever ISN'T injured in some way. I haven't ever seen her cry, though. Even when her one of our friends broke her finger, she still went to school.
he should've said most gingers or gingers are usually babies
In general, not for everyone also it's talking about the reaction to pain, not just pain. People are very different
Kylie Robertson I guess I feel pain more, but I can just choose to just ignore it
Kylie Robertson Dang, your friend is one tough cookie.

Can’t handle heat but love cold. I love snow! I can wear a T-shirt and shorts 😝😝
If Mythbusters had tried that test with the cold water on redheads from Iceland, the experiment would have lasted hours per person.

that means i am too because im a ginger with blue eyes!!!
My dad is similar, red hair and blue eyes. But since my mom is black hair and brown eyes, I am a carrier for both but have brown hair and brown eyes.
hapacalgirl I don't think that's quite how hair genetics works.
Thanks for posting! I am one of many redheads in my family and everyone tells us we'll go extinct soon.. I think our genes are holding up pretty well.

Mutated gene? My god my best friend is a Super Hero!
I love Super Heros!!! Introduce him to me!
Of courseeee :) hes a marine
Orilia no, what are you saying??! Blondes are 18 % of the population, thay are not so special.
