Fun fact: That whistle is from Jhope himself, he often whistle the melodies of the songs he listens to. He was home thinking what kind of music to make and he just randomly blew a whistle and that just became the melody for On The Street
Also while J.Cole raps on the rooftop, Hobi dances in the subway (Hobi was a street dancer before joining BTS). It's the way Hobi shows his great respect for Cole. While he was striving for his dream in the underground, Cole was already his icon, like his sky. Later Hobi gets out of the underground and goes up to the rooftop and meets Cole, meaning Hobi became a great artist himself like his icon and got to work together with him finally. You see Hobi dancing during J.Cole his verse, cause there is where Hope his roots is. Dancing on songs of J.Cole and a lot of icons.
The video opens in the same NYC alley that J.Cole’s Simba video opens. It’s a tribute song.

Then, in the end, Hobi meets him at the top of the building like he finally made it and hugged Cole like he came a long way. A full circle moment. Loved this loads.

"I got chills with this one, I know J-Hope is an already established artist but the way they portray the MV and build he verses, it's almost like a hungry youngling asking for his one shot and a tired king aware he can't sit on the throne forever. J-Hope is still on the street level/subway talking about what he's doing and what he needs to accomplish, while Cole stays solid on the top of the building, all alone and thinking about the path he's already taken. Then at the end, they meet, but as a fan giving his idol the flowers he deserves, not a rapper trying to steal the crown for himself."
    |This was so unexpected to me. Everything about it shows passion and craft. It's beautiful watching two worlds collide, and the one thing connecting them is hip-hop." --WaspParagon (Ye stan & Swiftie)

1:33 When you are addressing someone older than you, even just by a year, you add honorifics and speak formal.
For example: you hear all members of BTS address their older group members as "hyung" or add hyung after their name so for example JK says "Namjoon hyung" when talking about or directly to RM. JK does that with all members since they are older. He also uses -ssi for Jimin and often says "Jimin-ssi" and then you can also hear them address people like "hyung nim" or just their name and "nim" etc.
Hyung is honorific put by a man addressing an older man, women say oppa when addressing an older man, men say noona when addressing an older female and women say unnie when addressing an older women.
It's usually translated to "older brother" (hyung, oppa) and older sister (noona, unnie) but it's not like in english, it just refers to someone older and is disrespectful not to add. Women also call their boyfriends oppa and you can hear them flirtingly call BTS members oppa or just respectfully call them oppa so "big brother" is not the greatest translation.
You also see/hear the BTS members say "hyung is going to..." when they are talking to a younger member and then refers to them self as hyung like "I'm going to...".
Adding ssi after a name like "Jimin-ssi" is kind of like saying "Mr Jimin" a bit overly formal to address a group member still respectful and ok to say instead of hyung.
"Hyung nim" and "nim" is also very respectful and often said to people a bit older than just hyung. Jin said "Chris Martin hyung Nim" when talking about his collab with Coldplay and Chris Martin.
Honorifics are usually removed in english subtitles but if you listen you hear them always using them and formal speech vs informal isn't showing either in english subtitles since the english language/culture doesn't work the same as speaking Korean.
But read up a little on honorifics and speaking formal vs banmal.

He has a segment on Vlive called Hope on the Street where he is dancing to all his favorite artists. • @nirvana6172

jhope got his own version of "On The Street"
    J.Cole is jhope's biggest influence/inspiration and muse.
Jhope's mixtape "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Cole's first album "COLE WORLD." The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner." The avirex fit j-hope is wearing is also homage to J.cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the same exact street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Cole's verse is because j-hope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day. The is like a visual homage paid to J.Cole by j-hope to show his genuine love for THE GOAT like J.Cole.
J-hope been telling us since 2013 about JCole.. so he composed the music and let’s his idol spits 32 bars, that’s how much respect he got for him. I’m just an awe with JCole n proud of JHope.

How I interpret the video: jhope has his dream since he was a kid. He wished to be a meaningful part of the hiphop community. And he literally went underground. Since he was an underground dancer. Then later after his walk he finally made it. That’s when he meets j Cole who is part of what he also wished. It’s like „look at me. I‘m right here with j. Cole“

hyung is a term for older brother.. it is mostly said by boy to thier older brothers or brother from another mother.. it is a term which is very precious in thier culture and it is mostly said to someone who the person really feels connected to emotionally ✨

hula hooping is a basketball reference, J Cole always has the same kinda reference in his songs.

@14:09 yes he really does...🥰 someday you have to react to his "hope on the street" vlive freestyling... the song on his playlists alone show how passionate he is especially about old-school Hip hop... I would recommend the last one he did! I think it was around 2-3 am in korea when he did the live but despite him being visibly tired he danced for us and it was so so incredible🔥🔥🔥 I bet it would be a lot of fun if you´d watch it with us together🤗💜(also fitting bc "on the street" talks about getting back to his roots which is street dancing)
here´s a link of a video that cut together all the dancing: th-cam.com/video/DkbYNczqPns/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for all the reactions you do you always brighten my days!!!🌞💜

ARMY has some theories about the astronaut and on the street (Some clues in the mvs, similar scenarios etc) , as well as the upcoming songs before they go to serve. Jin collaborating with coldplay, Hobi with jcole, Namjoon with Pharrell coming soon and some rumors of the members with their role models. The end of one cycle, the beginning of another, their change as person and artists. Apparently the kids represent ARMY, they grew up with us, when we're together there's no one else, it was always all for us and the team. I'm glad they found their role models and made art together, just before a singular turning point in their lives (Coldplay last tour, jcole last album for a while, bts serving)
