- Lotus is recreating itself as an all-electric, luxury vehicle manufacturer and the battery-powered Eletre is their latest model. It's loaded with gadgets, it's stupidly fast, and its style is head-turning.
But... at $315,000 for the R model (that's the one that goes really, really fast) and with a fairly normal range of 450 km/280 miles per charge it's going to appeal to a limited, but wealthy audience: buyers who want to impress both passengers and passers-by.
So, join Gav as he takes this 2.7 tonne car for a blast around the streets of Auckland and if you get a kick out of the video please scroll up and press that little "Like" button! It keeps Gav reviewing cars and prevents him from going back to OnlyFans. Well, except on Friday's when he offers 90% off...
And if you're keen on cutting your carbon footprint, come and join us at Ecotricity, which is now New Zealand's only climate positive electricity provider! That means by switching today, you're actually turning back the clock on Climate Change, while saving money in the process.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it's not! Ecotricity is real, with really affordable electricity, thanks to it being purely renewable.
Head to www.ecotricity.co.nz and chuck in your address to see how much money & carbon you can save right now. It's that easy and it makes a real, positive difference for the next generation. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Your reviews have the greatest one liners. The reason I keep watching, even though you live upside down and wear socks with your sandals
i identify as pure trash got me. such a great sense of humour!
Spot on about Roger Moore. 👌 Also enjoyed this review, thanks for posting.
Down country I normally point each ev on the road to my passengers. Totally not annoying at all!
I use to think Gavin edited in all the other ev's in the background. Went to Auckland late last year, gave up pretty soon pointing out ev's. On the southern motorway you'll see ev's continually both directions. Now you can be stuck in traffic in clean air... Almost.
I've seen the EV:ICE ratio in Auckland increase since collecting our Polestar2 from there in July 2022. Then we went to Wellington last September and every second car seemed to be either a Leaf or a Tesla (only saw 2 other Polestars in 3 days though😎). The EV disruption is strong in our capital!
Awesome vid Gav ‼️
Without a doubt my favourite reviewer 👍🏻💯✅
Favourite reviewer, shite unnecessary su fing v
So so many great one liners
Gav has done it again. I have NO IDEA how these videos don't have millions of views.
Lotus is 51% owned by Geely (China) and 49% by Etika (Malaysia) but still headquartered in Norfolk, England.
Oh thanks, I was wondering about that. How many $$$ actually gets back to Norfolk would be about zero I guess. ☹
Great fun review as always Gavin. And Yes you are correct - having money doesn't always come along with good taste!
Your quips are spectacular
What an awesome machine bro very slick
What a beast!
Always look forward to your reviews, Gav. While I'm very much not a fan of UAVs (Urban Assault Vehicles), I do kinda like the way this looks. Terrible value for money, but if you can afford vehicles at that price point, well, as you say you're realistically not gonna care, are you? :-)
Careful Gav, Brian Tamaki is gonna want those seat belts painted white...
Money and taste..
I'm just two things short of getting this!
Great revue. All the facts in an entertaining style. This is awesome but the range….disappointing for such a massive battery. I would have thought it would be 600k min. Don’t know I like all the bling. I wonder how the front with those vents would cope with a roo strike in Australia. Lots of little things to go wrong. But…..awesome.
Lovely host. Such a fun reviewer. Making me watch heaps more models I ever cared to watch! This Lotus is terribly inefficient and that's it's biggest weakness. Lidar and the autopilot tech would be amazing but Model Y is 14kw compared to 24. Just not worth that for price!
Gavin: Nice vlog. I think this Lotus might go the same way as the Porsche Taycan.
I remember the one that was at Everything Electric in Sydney definitely wasn't small and even in British Racing Green. Just sitting in it was amazing the car for the lottery win potentially or the Spectre as the other option on this end of the market.
But will the LIDAR recognise spuds?
"and that's good because I identify as pure trash" *smiles, hiding the pain*
Aaahaha, as everyone says you have great one liners but that was so unexpected I burst out laughing and had to pause the video. Where did you find this guy Ecotricity and are there any more like him?
A Lotus is about simplicity and lightness the Eletre is the exact opposite of what a Lotus should be.
Clarkson argued that they were never light or simple
@@f4c3l355 clarkson is an idiot tho
@@f4c3l355Clarkson is a Fool and also Very Wrong.
It's a brilliant car! But it shouldn't be a Lotus.
A Lotus is about whatever the company decides they are about, not you. Do you work for Lotus? Do you engineer or design their cars?
If not, the only say you have is to buy one or not buy one. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, simple as that.
I'd probably opt for the Zeekr 001 over the Lotus Eletre. Same parent company but better priced comparing the specifications.
But the handling is not as good as Lutersforte in every way. You will know if you have tried it. The price is there. You get what you pay for.
Driver can have large coke, passenger can have medium coke. Or maybe driver gets large potato, passenger gets medium potato.
Gosh, you're pretty. Clever, too! Charming. Why aren't you on the telly?
Unfortunately for Lotus by all accounts this has been a sales flop world wide. Lotus apparently forecast a minimum of 4000 sales in its first full year, rumours are
It may have a big battery but I believe the range is disappointing
Very impressive car… wonder how it would work on a track day
Oh my god, that license plate is awesome.
Can’t believe the Macan EV is cheaper than this.
To be fair it’s much bigger than the Macan, would (will) compete with an EV Cayenne. Lotus see the top spec as a direct competitor to the Lamborghini Urus - against that Lotus would argue it’s incredible value 🙃
It’s a rebadge Polestar mate, same CN parent company
Wait wait...
265K and 315K??!
Im done.
New Zealand dollars though.
Nice car, but it does move away from Colin Chapman's mantra of build in lightness.
Chapman is turning in his grave.
Hi
wait, 380km for a 109kwh pack? Ouch...
That's the 905hp performance version. The 600hp model has 490km of range.

State of the art ?
Unusual steering wheel,HUD so why a small speedo on virtually not existent dash. Not a fan of interior
First!
And childish...
What an absolutely stupid concept and car.
Too fast for humans to cope with, too expensive to sell.
The gold metal buttons are so rich Asian 1987 - YUCK
ahh creep mode.... why oh why... also, there is no way kids are not going to poke the exposed speaker cones!
That’s a Chinese forklift with leather and a British badge. Expect to sell at third of its price after a year or two...
Nice car, but defeats the intent behind electric cars 🎉
the intent of electric cars are?
How is that? The more EV options in all the diverse car classes the better. The more that makers innovate, be it in expensive sports cars or cheap runabouts, the greater the next generation of EV's in all segments will be.
If someone is going to spunk $300k on a big fast suv at least this one isnt fossil burning
So, how many of these will sell in NZ now that no one is buying EV apart from Tesla's and a few others?
@@gregb1599 hardly any, how many 300k cars are bought here at all. the ev rebate would have no impact on this market
Thats not a proper LOTUS, its just another SU fing V.
Public EV charging is a DISASTER (and always will be)
Waste of money
Sorry gav, not interested in overpriced overpowered SUVs, cant help but give this video a thumbs down.
Imagine not buying a Tesla lol
