  • Immediately after race the drivers summoned into a room to be weighed along with the helmet and full protective race gear, but why are they made to do this? Well put simply it's to comply with the minimum weight regulations but there is more to it than you would probably imagine so let's dive into this with the new FactChecker

    Seems like a stupid rule. The drivers obviously can't help how much weight they will lose during a race, and to me, it looks like the FIA are trying to make teams adhere to an almost impossible situation, forcing drivers to add weight to the car via rubber pick up. Crazy.

    • @seannz100
      @seannz100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      probably just a measure to make it harder to cheat, if they weighed before, they could shed weight through various means and not get caught, or if they waited a while, theyd just take on fluids to bump the weight up, the teams probably have a pretty good idea of how much weight the drivers lose in an average weight, so can just compensate at the start

Although the drivers have a water system drivers are often told to drink as much water as possible post race to increase their weight... strange as you would think the water would weigh the same whether it’s in a car or driver 👀

    • @icehawk3442
      @icehawk3442 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it's because the power unit engineering team have a good picture of how often and how much the engine can handle maximum power modes, and so it is common practice for drivers to have to request for permission/confirmation from the strategists and engineers that it is worth risking the engine wear in that situation vs the potential reward if they get a place.
      Since they have very little power unit replacement quota in the rules, running too hard one race could cause power loss in a future race or even DNF if wear is managed poorly.

    Shouldn't they weigh the driver (and car) rather just before the race? After all, as you highlight, the drivers will lose a lot of fluid during the race, something they essentially cannot control. Their before-race weight is therefore a better representation of their true weight than that after the race which will be unpredictably variable. Or is there concern that teams could then abuse the system for instance by having the driver use a pill or liquid that could dramatically reduce their weight during the race?
