- Want to know more about Brad Pitt's F1 movie? Well let me take you behind the scenes and show you how they have and will be filming the Apex F1 movie.
If you're an F1 fan I'm sure you would've heard the news about Brad Pitt in Silverstone filming an F1 movie - but how exactly will this movie be filmed? Well allow me to explain exactly what is happening with the new APX GP F1 team that has been introduced for the movie. The movie will be star Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as drivers for the APX F1 team as well as some of the other F1 drivers and they will be filming at a number of F1 races on the 2023 F1 schedule.

Underrated comment
Thanks for the laugh
Don't worry Brad, you'll get ahead again after you pit.
😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
plot twist: there were no driver switches to maintain continuity in the movie
I literally thought this while watching this video. Pretty interesting theory if you ask me.
Could Pitt even fit his butt in an F1 seat? He must be 10 to 15 kg heavier than any current F1 driver.
Brad Pitta replacing Ricciardo next year 🏎️
But hey, that's just a theory! A FILM THEORY!
It’s set to release in “June 2025” I believe. The 2023-2024 season has very consistent line-ups so by the time 2025 comes around, they can still pretend it was from “a year ago” I guess?
I found it amazing that during the British Grand Prix, you were seeing the cars on track all the time. in between each session and even on the F1 grid just before the race. But on TV when we got home. (yes we watched it again) you didn’t even know they were there.
I don’t know why, but I just found that very interesting
It is very interesting. Gives you an idea of how much control there is on what you get to see during races. Now if they would stop showing crowd shots when a battle is going on, that would help.
IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN… so simple actually
let me think why?? mmm maybe because they are not allowed to show anything on tv??
I find it amazing that you actually wrote this comment! 🤦🏼♂️😣
i wonder if thats the same with sports movies when the stands are full.. just shoot some quick video in between a live game
They also had a Team in the Rolex 24 which had Sonny Hayes as a driver on the livery and it actually ran the entire 24 hours.
Very interesting, thanks for informing me
I was there. They sure did. I got a ton of pics of it. It was Wright Motorsports driving a 911 GT3 R. Pitt was there and waved to us. Plenty of extra. Lots of night filming on the night before the race. Pitt was certainly not driving in the Rolex 24 but some of the shooting was done during it. Professional drivers driving the Wrights Motorsports 911 GT3 R were in the race. The owner of the race team brought about 6 of these cars in case any broke down or had other problems so the filming would not be affected.
We were guests of Porsche Motorsports so we got some of the scoop given that the film was driving a Porsche GT3 race car and working with a Porsche team.
maybe hayes was a former f1 driver now driving in endurance series and the f1 gods come to him for "experience" and all that "maverick like" stuff
@@vwPoloTDI I definitely don’t know the full plot. What I heard from people who claimed to know the plot was he is a former F1 driver, and somehow ends up being involved in this endurance race but that’s all that I really know I’m not sure where the plot goes from their concretely.
@@teamredgutz399 it's being filmed in reverse. He starts off in sports cars.
The 1966 "Grand Prix" movie was about F1 and you can see a lot of real drivers, they filmed in the real races also, the actors raced against the real drivers
James Garner was the star, and Steve "everything cool is mine, all mine" McQueen was pissed.
Yeah, I don't see how Kym claims this is the only F1 movie when Frankenheimer's (Excellent!) "Grand Prix" is mentioned in the article he shows on screen. The rumor goes that Ferrari did not want to participate in the filming, Enzo suspecting the end product would be hokey, and cast racing in a poor light, but after seeing the dailies he was convinced otherwise.
@@particlewaveduality That's why I commented, there is "Rush" also, about Lauda and Hunt rivalry, Kym doesnt know much about the topic he is talking about it seems
Francoise hardy , beautiful woman wow she looks so cool .in that film grand Prix
@@user-ov4mk9ox8y Steve Mcqueen wasn't in that movie
rush was also a popular movie about f1. it was a lot more critically acclaimed and faithful to the sport.
I beleve the crash footage in the movie Rush (2013) is the actual TV footage of Niki Lauda's crash at Nürburgring in 1976.
@@Spik3rSuppa i think it was just very accurately cgi'ed however it was still brilliantly done. the givaway is the quality of camera, and the angles
@@AJS775 Yeah, the high quality crash scene is of course CGI, but there are some comments "out there" that the real crash footage was used in the scene where Chris Hemsworth/James Hunt is watching a TV news report.
Time stamp in movie from 1:30:44 to 1:30:54.
Rush was a great film, very well done as far as movies go.
Came here to suggest this. Love that movie.
I hope there is a reporter doing a grid walk and they try to interview Martin Brundle and he just walks off and ignores the reporter
That would be classic 🤣
There is another movie called Grand Prix, produced in 1966 and it was around F1 and they actually used the chassis of the 1966 cars. It featured Graham Hill and some racers, and in the movie they raced in a couple of circuits including the real 1966 Monaco track. Check it out it’s actually a really nice movie
Actually period formula 2 cars were used and dress up with the intricate exhaust of the F1 cars of the day.
I've just mentioned that before seeing your post. Not sure why Grand Prix was ignored.
And f1 drivers were acting in it like graham hill. Such a good movie
In my opinion the best cinematography of any racing movie ever. Followed closely by Le Mans.
never heard of it, thank you for metining, will watch it .
Pitt and his movie crew were filming the movie at the Rolex24 IMSA race in Daytona, and we saw them there. He drives a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the scene filmed there which I understand is the opening scene.
That livery was noice 👌
In 1966 my wife and I appear for a flash in the grandstands at the bottom of Watkins Glen turn 1 while the movie "Grand Prix" was being filmed. As I recall, they mounted a large film camera on the hood of a Ford GT40 or something like that to get on track sequences. If you want to see what it really feels like, check out the downhill sequence of curves at Monaco that year from that camera's eyes. The movie starred James Garner, Yves Montand and many others of renown. Play it back.
Yes, a 70mm camera mounted on a GT-40. Remarkable.
RUSH is another F1 movie and it is awesome hope this has a similar impact !
Surprised you didn't mention their appearance at the 24 hours of daytona! One team agreed to use the same liveries as the team in the movie so actual in race footage could be used
There was a little movie called " RUSH" that was very good.
It’s extremely boring
Its far from boring @@TheInfantry98
You've ignored the John Frankenheimer movie Grand Prix (1966) that featured a number of F1 drivers with "speaking parts". also Weekend of a Champion but that was more like a documentary.
Edited: Paul Stoddard drove for 'Jordan Grand Prix".
Kym your knowledge and experience in the world of F1 gives us great entertainment! Thank you so much for sharing! Cheers!
Hi Kym, I’ve recently discovered your channel and I’m loving it. I’ve been a Formula One fan since the mid 90s. I live in Springfield, Missouri, where Brad Pitt is from, in fact, My home is literally in the same subdivision where Brad grew up as a kid 😊 thanks for all the great information about this upcoming movie, I’m really looking forward to it 😊
I was at Silverstone last year and one of the movie cameramen set up in front of us on Club corner. Love your videos Kym and I am a keen motorsport photographer myself and found your videos both informative and entertaining. keep up the good work!
I'm a big fan of John Frankenheimer's "Grand Prix." (1966) He filmed at the races throughout the season. Graham Hill, Richie Ginther and Phil Hill had speaking roles. And lots of the other drivers were visible on the grid. James Garner turned out to be so good at Bob Bondurant's driver training academy that he drove most of his scenes in the movie. Yves Montand and Brian Bedford were reportedly hopeless. Garner even occasionally drove the camera car (a modified Ford GT) and did his own stunt when his car explodes in flames-he got a serious neck burn as a result. Luckily, that scene was toward the end of the filming sequence or the insurance company was going to shut them down. Enzo Ferrari refused any assistance at the start of the film, but Frankenheimer quickly edited about 15 minutes of what they had shot and took it Maranello to show him. Once he saw it, Ferrari allowed Frankenheimer to use the Ferrari name and film inside the factory. Frankenheimer was in a class by himself when it came to filming speed-his other great car movie was "Ronin."
Prior to finding acting fame, James Garner used to street race for money in the Los Angeles area; he talks about it in an interview done later when he was much older.
I was at the film day in Silverstone! I saw brad pitt's car driving with a film car behind! It was a really interesting thing to see.
Unfortunately, I was in Fusion Lounge during last year’s British GP, which is between Stowe and Vale, so I did not get to see the film car given that it turned off shortly after the starting line during the drivers’ parade.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos, Kym; you always make the content interesting. I attended my first F1 race at Silverstone last year and was in the stands only a few metres away from the cars. It surprised me at first hearing the F2 cars change up 🌞
I can’t wait for the movie to come out. I’ll go see at the cinema and I’ll even get it on DVD.
I stayed in the hotel at Silverstone the week after the GP and was lucky enough to catch them still filming on track!
I have so many questions, mainly "do they really think we won't notice that that's clearly an F2 car" but I just have to remember that they're not making this movie for people like me.
Whoever it’s for; using an F2 car is like making a movie about Supermodels and casting Debbie from the fish n chip shop as Claudia Schiffer.
Huge shoutout to their efforts. I was expecting significant cgi and I guess a misunderstanding of the sport. Luckily we seem to have an actor backed by a team thrilled to work with F1 and a much more chill F1 paddock that doesn't seem to bothered by it.
Thanks and great info Kym. There was a short shot of Gerhard Berger being interviewed in your video, I saw a podcast with Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard. Gerhard was the naughtiest, fun seeking driver at that time. Always playing pranks on the other drivers, especially Prost and especially Senna. Its on youtube
Not the first F1 movie. In fact there was a 60s film called Grand Prix starring James Garner
also Rush
Just found your channel, really good watch. Thanks
Glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Spoiler: Lando breaks Brad Pitt's F1 trophy
Watch John Frankenheimer's 1966 movie "Grand Prix" if you have not. There was some actual racing on the banking of Monza. Great movie.
you are so good in addressing all things we are wondering. great video.
Glad you think so!
They probably chose Silverstone bc of the film tax credits in England for movies . I think it’s around 30% too.
Interesting point
As a damson and brad pitt fan and f1 fan i cant wait for this
Thanks for the view into this, Kym. Who was actually driving the APX cars on track?
why is Brad pitting tho
Kym, they were also filming at the Daytona 24hr at the start of this year, and had a movie car linkup with one fo the GT Porsche teams.
Hey Kym! Terry Robertson sent me! I have some of your work with Oscar Piastri framed and hanging in my office! Awesome work!
Nice.
Great video! Thanks much.-BTW, now I'm subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
If I am not mistaken the 1966 movie "Grand Prix" was about F1 at that time starring James Garner (excellent pic by the way) and had some support from F1.
Thanks for the update
No problem 👍
Having attended the Daytona 24 hour, the way they were shooting, the pit garages, etc was giving really good vibes. They seem like they are trying to portray racing in an authentic manor as far and I can tell
"Driven" is one of my "guilty pleasure" movies. Yes, it's dreadful, but I watch it every now and then and I love (or love to hate?) it. :)
Mine too, it's kind of funny how the plot of this movie is very similar to plot of Driven with older driver coming out of retirement to mentor a younger driver. Driven was more or less an F1 movie just with a CART reskin, it had a German driver that was driving a red car as the main antagonist and Burt Reynolds as team principal in a wheel chair... and Jimmy Bly looked a bit like Jenson Button in it's rookie season at Williams.
@@robertribic6599 quite a disservice to Jenson! Still I enjoy the movie as well.
They filmed at Suzuka too. Saw them in the crowds and they used a Porsche to do film track footage.
I guess someone needs to oil the door hinges. 😁😁I just love the blooper and the end. Anyways, thanks for sharing, can't wait to see the movie.
Thanks for watching!
I do believe that this movie will be great! Joseph Kosinsky is one of the best visual artists of modern cinematography.
their was a movie made about formula 1 in 1966 called GRANDPRIX
Directed by John Frankenheimer. Paul Stoddard drove for a team called "Jordan Grand Prix". Which is why Eddie's team caused some mirth when it appeared on the grind.
I reckon they chose Silverstone to film because its related to the storyline.
Any ideas where we can stream “Driven” or buy on blu ray?
I thought it was ok, especially the coin trick lol
Right people need to put some respect on Driven's name! Great movie
@@williedowdy6830 I’ve just ordered a blu ray. Film is underrated.
I watched it again recently and it was as bad as I recalled.
Just to let u in on some more info they were filming at the 24 hours of daytona they raced the #120 GTD entry and did a lot of filming for the movie with prop cars like the Lexus and the turner motorsports bmw entry have some pics if u would like them
Can't wait
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
The camera (following) cars at Daytona 24 were quite involved. Out in plain sight within their garage spaces.
Don’t forget the movie “Grand Prix” they tons of access of formula one. Back in 1966 😃👍🏽
can not wait to see it
Leaked film dialog
ApX team radio: 'BOX BOX BOX'
Sonny Hayes: 'What's in the BOX. WHAT'S in the box ? WHAT'S IN THE BOX !'
I hope the movie focuses on the racing and the drivers within the race. All the talking you can see in any other movie. It's the racing people want to see.
I remember seeing them at Monza before the race and didn't understand who they were. :D
Yes, we know about Pitt, but is there a cameo for Kym Illman?!
I commented earlier you should propose a photo signing deal with the film, where you do an onscreen deal with the driver(s) to show how these work and provide a little drama because you turn down the old guy for the new star driver or whatever. Maybe you tell Pitt "You're no Schumacher", and at the end of the film he sees you taking his photo after a win and you say "I knew you were good all along!" with a cheeky grin. You can then sell the real photo for charity, so it's a win-win for everybody. It would be great!
An interesting suggestion. I’ll run it past the film company
The James Garner movie Grand Prix was filmed at Monaco on the race weekend. So this is number two.
Love the movie driven being it was one of the few movies that cover f1
As a SAG actor, I wish I could work this gig.
This is the second F1 movie to be filmed during an F1 season and featuring drivers of the time in the film at the tracks. The first was Grand Prix 1966, it’s a pretty good film. The off track stuff was kinda cringe, but all the racing action was well directed and fun to watch
I got to see them filming GT racing at the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona. The film cars were very impressive. So we should get to see multiple styles of racing in this movie. 🎥 🍿
I see the legend Daniel Simon is involved with the livery 👌
Very cool insight ..hoping the movie is ready soon and decent.
I’m sure the movie will be great
when was this video originally posted
\
They also filmed this movie at the Rolex 24 at Daytona
Rush, Grand Prix and Le Mans, are Still My Absolute Favorites! while Driven is my most treasured turd of a racing movie, with Days Of Thunder, a close second. Indeed, So Bad, They’re Good!!!
Kym, I don’t think I ever saw who was driving the actual APX cars at Silverstone. Do you happen to know?
TY👍
Kinda hoping by they’ll film some in Miami, I’ll be in paddock club!
I think we need more of these kind of movies...F1, DTM , Rally, endurance (24) hour and sow on..... 😅 Excuse my English 😅🤭
Anyway good luck and can't wait to see 🤩😎✌️
I liked the movie 'driven' it was actually not a bad film, if you're into racing you'll enjoy it for sure ❤
Kim, What do you think of Liberty Media buying MotoGP? Is it a good move for motorsports?
The James Garner F1 movie is the benchmark
I would like to see this latest F1 Grand Prix movie released on a curved screen, like the 1966 Cinerama film "Grand Prix." With Sphere in Las Vegas, I think it will be possible soon. If that work becomes a big hit, please continue producing more works and set up theaters in various locations.
Hopefully it contains Days of Thunder type scenes where Tom Cruise downshifted from 4th to 3rd and sped up from 200 to 400 MPH. Seems like if this were real the drivers would always just drive in 3rd. Or like scenes from Driven, where drivers used the race cars to drive around town or a crash scene where a car tumbled for miles through the woods. BTW sadly the most accurate American racing movies are Stroker Ace and Six Pack.
Ben, you nattering nabob of negativism - Watch John Frankenheimer's 1966 masterpiece "Grand Prix" renowned for its realistic portrayal of F1, and featuring several drivers of that era in speaking roles.
4:15 there is 60' movie called grand prix
Yes, 1966. Not sure why it was ignored.
If its as good as Ford vs Ferrari it will be a great movie. In that movie i learned of a little know British racing driver who should never have been missed like this for so long
You should get the role of the photographer who ends up being run over in the pits. You can have a Stunt man for that bit, your camera falls to the ground taking some photos from ground level of some suspicious under flooring of the car.
F1 was part of a movie in 1966 (Grand Prix 1966) and if this movie is anything like that but with modern standards then it is going to be great
They were also filming in Hungary before Silverstone
I was at the Rolex 24 back in January and was able to see the Sonny Hayes fictitious garage, Porsche, etc.
Pit wall photo..."We need a team principal!" "Just pick an old European guy and cast him!"
They need monaco. Maybe the 2 cars colliding in sector 3 or something
The movie title is Apex, I forgot where I heard it but I think its true
Not sure about that.
aight
That ending. 🤣
I’ve got the movie DRIVEN I love it.
Title: Days of Thunder2, Knights of Lightning!
I actually liked the Driven movie as a kid. It was just fun to watch. I wasn’t looking for anything authentic just racing car action. And we got that. Lol.
I'm surprised they didn't make the movie cars all solid green, and put the livery in digitally during post production. Apparently sponsorship issues have been problematic.
These guys were filming at Suzuka 2024 F1 Race
are the actors driving the cars or they have other drivers?
Very rarely actors drive these cars or do stunt work in general. Definitely using stunt drivers for this one too much of injury due to inexperience.
Does anybody remembers Sylvester Stallone's " Driven " ? My point exactly.
Rush is a fantastic F1 movie
Geiko and Duracell (Williams) are both owned by Buffet.
Congratulation your fans in long years😍🌍🙏
Luigi Fagioli is the oldest driver to win a grand prix at 53 years old. Nineteen fifty one French GP. He is also the only F1 driver born in the 19th century. Brad Pitt is 60 years old. I like Brad, he could pass for 53. I'm glad Brad is making this movie. I hope it is because he has a genuine attraction to the sport, and not because he sees it's current and growing popularity and wants to cash in. I don't feel there has ever been a really good racing movie. Grand Prix, LeMans, Rush, Days of Thunder, and Winning with Paul Newman all have fantastic footage of race cars at speed. But as cinema none of them are very good. Oh, I forgot Driven. Never seen it. I hope this turns out to be a "good movie". I'm willing to overlook some stretches of reality if it is compelling and exciting. Kym seems to have forgotten the movie Grand Prix. The story I read is that the director, John Frankenheimer, went to Ferrari and asked for their cooperation and they slammed the door in his face. He put together some film of the cars he shot, and somehow got Enzo to watch it. After he watched it, Enzo told him he could have whatever access he wanted and to let him know if he needed anything else. I think that is a fantastic story.
I actually enjoyed Driven, Im surprised they did not filmed in Monaco
Still my favorite racing movie ever. Race is a close 2nd
@@williedowdy6830 lol idk about my favorite racing movie, but the shot sequence was exciting especially seeing them race through the street in those Indy cars
@@williedowdy6830 Watch the 1966 movie Grand Prix directed by John Frankenheimer.
Love both actors an F1 can't wait for this film🔥
