Now that Kimi's retired, Charles can claim the number 7 in 2024, as long as Kimi doesn't come back (though that's highly unlikely). But Kimi using number 7 was quite appropriate, as he won his world championship in 2007, in his 7th year of competing in F1. Excluding 2013, when he was automatically assigned 7 based on championship position from 2012, after choosing it as his personal race number in 2014, he raced for 7 further seasons. A lot of special memories.
That's how normal people think about number. Kimi doesn't care about what number he takes.

In 2013 Lotus was 4th in the Constructors so they were given 7 and 8, so Kimi just kept 7 into 2014 when moving back to Ferrari and his teammate Grosjean kept 8 as well.
I used to think that Fernando's number 14 had something to do with footballer Xabi Alonso, who was identical with that number. They are both Spanish and are the same age, even the same surnames.. also legends in their sports.
There is a video on youtube of Alonso winning the world karting championship and the announcers even mentioned the coincidence of the number 14
Idols are developed when you are a child. By the name Xabi made a name for himself so had Alonso.

I remember when the whole thing with picking your own number was introduced for 2014, Kimi explained in an interview that he picked the 7 cause he had it the year before and saw no reason to change it.
It's nice that Kimi left the 6 for Rosberg as that was Keke's old number.
It was also the last digit in the years both Rosbergs retired from F1 (Keke in 1986, Nico 30 years after his dad.)
It also meant Kimi won his title in 07, so it kind of fit... perfectly.
