I am Purple Heart recipient with three college degrees, with Government Contract experience, with numerous of certifications and specialty training. Used my GI bill and Chapter 31. I am currently a GS employee, it took talking to another GS employee to obtain this position. Here are some things I have learned, the HR or hiring official is required to tell you the reason for not being selected. USAjobs uses bots that look for the language of your resume and the answers of your resume to pull you to go to HR. Read that again and make sure you hit the right notes. Lastly, never give up on learning and education I am aware that people say college is a joke but that’s not what I am saying. Be intellectually curious a sponge for knowledge and how to apply for it. Ask questions and ask more. Make that a mission.

Appreciate your post. Aside from the Purple Heart, we are walking in similar shoes. I have three business degrees, gov contract experience, and a couple certs in contracting. I used my GI Bill and the bonus I paid into it. One thing I tell interviewers about me is - I ask a lot of questions - haha. Even with experience and education and direct hire, it is a lot harder than I expected. I had an interview but didn't get it - but I'm not disappointed because I learned a lot in the process. The opportunity will come. Thank you for post, your service, and sacrifice.

@@kevinp1727 I had an interview, a few referrals. I'd have to say the best advice from Armand is to make sure you tailor your resume. And find the appropriate job type. If contracting/procurement. Look for contract/procurement/purchasing/acquisition. If you are a Vet, makes sure to have your DD214 and the SF15 with your application. When you're searching, choose veterans and public. They are overloaded and busy so we just need to be patient. Best of luck!

"No one's lining up to hire Veterans." I felt that. I'm not a veteran, but I am pretty disabled. Civil service has been the most accommodating for me. The private sector has been hit or miss. I'm still onboarding with the IRS. Even with Direct Hire, an on-the-spot offer, etc. It's been almost a full month. Lol. I've heard mixed things about the IRS, but they are very accommodating. Love your videos. 😊

Heres a glitch. I got awarded DIC when my husband died. Job preference for veterans in most parts does not mean widows. Why? I went everywhere he was stationed. When he got hurt, sick, i was there. I quit my job to take care of him. I was there when the VA drove him to the brink of wanting to give up. I was there when he died. I was there when my family was destroyed deliberately. Yes, told to ny face by gov. Official this. I cant handle stress now. Have over 100 allergies. I have to live in isolation now because of this. Inly preference is gov. Jobs. I dont want a gov. Job. The gov. Destroyed my family. But job preference isnt for widows in civilian world.....look at the questionaires....

If you already have a USAJobs.gov account setup then:
      1. Identify the job series that matches your experience the best
      2. Create a relevant federal resume that has result oriented achievements
      3. Apply 3 - 4 times a day for the next month

I did 9 years in the national guard with no deployments. Does this time count?

Generally speaking, you would qualify for veterans preference with either a service connected disability or if you served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days between 2001 and 2010.
